Im thinking about getting my mom a E4GT for christmas. I was wondering what is the easiest and most effective way of rooting it. She needs the hotspot unlocked because my folks do alot of traveling in their RV

Thanks alot mate

If you don't want to load a custom rom just run stock rooted with CWM and load the "Odexed" hotspot hack.
works with EK02/EL13:

IMO, sfhub's [ROOT][NCIQ][EG30/EG31/EK02] Auto root your existing stock ROM (w/o ODIN/ROM Flash) is hands down the easiest, safest and best method of rooting out.
Thanks for all the help guys. I think my mom will like the E4GT. She curently has a LG Lotus lol. My sister said get her an iPhone but most my family is anti Apple

even if most of us here are anti-iphone, most older moms/dads are given iphones by their son/daughter cause it does not involved to much thinking on their part to operate if you know what I mean that is why maybe if you ask you sister she would also say.

I want my ipad to tether my 4g. I have the epic 4g touch, but would prefer not to root. Is this possible?
Can this be done?
Thanks in advance.
I could help you but since you have an iDevice... I won't.

Check out FoxFi. I haven't used it, but they claim to allow your device to thether without rooting.

I use foxfi on my droid charge and it works great. Mainly use it when I want to tether and play some swtor or some LoL on my desktop.

Lol, don't be like that! I'm a huge Android/windows person. I'm getting the ipad 3 from work. We're using it for all of our employees. ( I don't have a choice) They are buying the wifi only models though. So I'm just trying to make my life easier.
I rooted my old Epic 4g and flashed tons of roms. I just don't want to get addicted again, lol.
Hello guys I have a g2x and I want to buy a nexus I guess what I'm saying is, does it work for you or are there some things I should consider? Do you think it's worth switching?

Best phone ever. EVER! But seriously, everything is just right on this phone once you're on imm76i update and flash an appropriate radio. Running stock and almost stock kernel.
sent with 3g courage. better recognize. 4g courage coming soon. stock up on diapers.
Sounds good man! Thanks for your response.

Thought I have seen somewhere that if the phone has a hardware issue and you send it back to Samsung they will still honor the warranty? My USB plug-in on the phone broke so I could not Odin back to stock before I sent it in. What are my chances of them fixing the plug under warranty? That's the only reason I sent it in to them anyway, but it did have AOKP on it. Thoughts? Experiences?

I dunno.. I am pretty sure rooting voids the warranty so its going to depend on if they look at it close enough.
Yeah I knew rooting voided the warranty, but I thought I read on one of the bad screen/good screen threads that some people got theirs replaced even with custom roms on them because it is an obvious hardware issue and nothing related to rooting or the like.

Thats like saying you knew a few guys who ran a red light and didn't get a ticket, so it must be ok then right?
I am not being rude, but if you knew it was voided from rooting then you shouldn't have sent it that way.
Fingers crossed they take no notice of it and just fix your hardware.
I suppose there is a chance they will fix your phone for you if it's rooted but there are no guarantees

To be honest I don't care either way if its covered. I can just as easily buy a new phone. The point of this thread was t see if it mattered or not if it was rooted when it was going in for hardware issues and not software. I'm also not saying anyone has cheated the system in the past or has even tried to. I actually thought Samsung didn't care about software if it was a hardware issue with the phone.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using XDA Premium HD app
Should it be covered no, however whenever they get the phones they just flash them with the stock rom anyway so they probably wont care. Technically speaking though remember the yellow droid whenever you were rooting how he said it would void it so yah
From personal experience... sent in a T989 for warranty exchange. When I bough it, it had a rom installed. I sent it I'm due to water damage. Cost me 120$ for the replacement being water damaged. But never was stated anything of the phone being rooted or " customized".
Last but not least, that was done in 3 days. Before I knew anything about flashing or rooting phones. So just gonna have to hope they don't do nothing about internals...

Thanks for the replies. I guess ill just see if they kick it back or not
Just as an update in case people were wondering, samsung fixed my phone with no questions asked and simply updated the firmware back to stock before they shipped it back to me. Cool beans.

Man has anybody figured out how to get wifi teather to work?
4.2.1 rooted stock..
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Yes, it's quite simple. Settings, other, tethering, and there you go.
EDIT: sorry, but i don't understand if you don't know where are the settings or if you can't use it because it doesn't work, mine worked out of the box.
Yeh i can connect to the tethering but it wont use my data
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I did some treaks with pimpmyrom.. Gotta wait to get off work to see if it worked
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
What ROM are you using? If its one of the ones in the Development Section, chances are this feature is already good to go without any further tinkering. Most of the devs work this feature into the ROM's. And no its the same data you have when you aren't tethering (that's why carriers are scamming people). My two cents.

Op is allegedly stock, and tethering won't work unless he's on Share Everything or actually pays for tethering.
So OP, pay for tethering, switch to Share Everything, or flash a custom ROM....or root and use Barnacle.

Ok, now i completely don't understand, he can't use tethering untill he pays, is it? So is the carrier locking the function? What is share everything? Sorry for the dumb question!
WiFi tethering works.. Its just I was trying to use it with my PS vita and it won't work
It works with my tablets just not PS vita for some reason..
BTW I'm on straight talk

It must be carrier specific. I have no issues tethering through WiFi.

I have been asked by people as to WHY would you want to root your phone? Or the big question...what is rooting?
So this is what I tell them when one of these questions is asked.
Lets say you bought a brand new Mustang Gt. You paid for it and it belongs to you. But you notice that Ford has only certain options available to you and all the others are locked down. But this is YOUR car. But the PCM is locked down and your stuck with the options Ford wants you to have.
But...help is here. You find out that your PCM can be unlocked (rooted) so you can have access to your cars full potential.
Your brand new phone is just like the Mustang until you unlock its full potential.
So I ask you...root or not to root?
Sent from my Wicked T999
Definitely root for me, but its not for everyone
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
That is true. But once they see what rooting their phone does for them they would be very happy.
I rooted mine the day I bought it and have no intention of going stock.
Sent from my Wicked T999
For me it's not a huge deal since I don't play games on my phone so I don't really need the extra speed. I just like my phone feeling snappier when using the basic apps like texting. I'm also very minimalistic so it's nice to be able to get rid of the bloat
