Can't turn off display timeout? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

10 minutes is the maximum that the display timeout can be set to through settings.
Is anyone else not happy with this?
I use Google Maps in my car sometimes and this makes it unbearable. Yes, I know Navigator is available but prefer maps for some uses. I also use a few other apps that I'd rather leave the display on as well.

It's under developer options.

Yes, as long as you're on the charger, you can use the Develper Option "Stay Awake" to prevent the screen from timing out (though I believe it will still dim).
Alternately, there's an app in the market called "Stay Awake" that will remove the screen timeout entirely.

Hmm. Thanks.
So all we have are half fixes and work arounds? It would be nice if it was simply an option.
Shame I have to run an app to turn that off but I guess I will.

I just told you what the option was.

That only works when charging, though.

Check out the application 'screebl'.
I haven't yet tried to put it on my genex yet but it worked flawlessly with my Droid x. It works with the angle and orientation of your phone go keep it on.

Laggy accelerometer?

Sometimes my screen rotate when in browser or an app that supports rotation the accelerometer lags behind a bit
Anyone else had this ?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
It has to do with the animation speed mostly. You can adjust that in developer options.
I have them all off.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
if you are talking about that 1 second delay that's normal.
Nope
I'm talking
"Why havent you rotatated"
Tap tap
OK
Still not rotating
Tap tap tap
Ah, there ya go.

Can't say I've seen that. How annoying.
On the Galaxy Nexus??? well that's a surprise.

I'm pretty surprised to see people saying that they have not experienced it. It's one of the worst bugs with the phone and lots of people are experiencing it:
http://code.google.com/p/android/is...=ID Type Status Owner Summary Stars&start=300
I'm on 4.0.3. Maybe that is why.
yeah I know that problem. experienced it mainly allot in the browser

If you need to tap the phone to get the accelerometer to work, then it's probably faulty and you should ask fro an exchange/repair.
But if you are just experiencing a small delay, that's apparently a feature in ICS to prevent accidental rotation. At first I found it incredibly annoying but it actually works in preventing unwanted rotations.
Galaxy Nexus CDMA stock 4.02 here. It has definitely been a problem for me. It takes a good 2+3 full seconds to rotate for me. Lucky for me i spend 90% of my time in portrait.
VZW GN and yeah I got the same thing. Its really annoying but I cant tell if its more or less annoying than having the screen accidentally rotate...
Either way this should be something we can control in the developer options, like give us a time delay before screen will rotate.

Unchecking the stay awake while charging setting will not survive a reboot

As the title says, my choice to let the phone sleep while charging won't stick. Has anyone else ran into this issue?
My phone is stock rooted and I can't seem to find an app that is causing the setting to change.

I figured it out. It was the recent update to extended controls.

Hi s9ortner, did you manage to discover a workaround? I have the same issue, and agree its very annoying!

This has been bugging me for weeks.
With your info, I made a toggle for the "Stay Awake" option. Now it seems to stay off through a reboot.
Thanks!

How can I find what wakes my phone?

Something keeps waking my phone and turning the screen on.
I have cm10 nightly, juice defender and tasker running but I cannot figure what is waking the phone, when it does there are no incoming messages or emails, no notifications etc.
Is there a log I can check?
Thanks in hope DC

Seems it is the way I have CallMaster configured in Tasker. I think when it wakesit actually goes to the foreground, I have tasker set that if I have an app in the foreground it kills the screen gaurd and sleep.....Thus the screen comes on. Taken CallMaster out of the script and hey presto, no screen wake
Thanks for the help
Bought the batterystat app as it really helped me.
Out of curiosity why are you running juice defender and tasker? Seems redundant when you could achieve what juice defender does with tasker.
Had jd for a long time, not finished programming (or fully understanding tasker) yet, but yep I will be binning jd (its in desperate need of an update is jd).
Been trying to find a good Tasker - JD Profile I can use as a starting base.

Understandable...if you're looking for info on tasker just google "tasker google group" the dev has a group page with all kinds of good info.
Thanks, seen that group, some good info in it.
Shame there are no websites (not the wiki) with profiles that can be downloaded.

Agreed. That would be extremely helpful especially for anyone getting started.
ur phone get waked when it think to be under charge..even the cable is not plugged
check if that the case..when the phone wake u should see the battery charging animation..is it?
if that the case, that a common problem caused by the usb port of ur phone..search around for ghost usb charge
Thanks for the suggestion, no there is no ghost charge, it was an app waking the phone due to my tasker setting.
All sorted now

looking for an app

im looking for an app that can concentrate a number of actions to one button that i will be able to put on my Homescreen as a widget, thus saving time by not forcing me to do each and every one of the actions.
for example - i would like to open "waze", turn on bluetooth, turn on the gps and turn off the wifi with just one click
is that possible?
dose anybody know an app who dose that?
(im using an unrooted Nexus 4 and i am aware of the NFC technology - just looking for a different solution.)
thanks a lot!!
Edi.
I thinks Tasker can do this
Tapalked with a Nexus⁴

If you get Tasker right now I believe its on sale. It can definitely do this. You would create a profile for the application Waze, and add tasks for each thing you want to happen when you open Waze.

Make the screen turn off when charging AUTOMATICALLY?

I don't like how the screen stays on while charging, I know theater mode can turn it off but I have to get into theater mode every night and I know there is a trick with ambient display from the app but this also takes time. Is there a way to just have the watch turn off the screen ALWAYS when charging without my asking it to?

Get an app called slumber. It does what you're looking for.

Actually slumber didn't work very well for me buy I ended up finding a thing online saying to go into developer options and change the setting, THAT worked wonders

I confirm that setting it "backwards" from what you expect does what you want. Someone's boolean logic was off when they programmed that setting.

This worked for me too. Setting is reversed.
Once on charge, I get the charging screen for about 15 seconds then it turns off and stays off! Perfect!
i can confirm that the setting is reversed
however, this feature isn't all that reliable (the screen doesn't always turn off)
