I also like that you did the speed test on 4G
By the way I just popped your 1st "Thanks Meter" cherry. LOL..
Thanks, I wanted to show that the speed test app isn't the end all be all of Web performance, so that's why I went to the browser and opened up some websites to show that there isn't a drastic difference.

Nice to see the E4GT more than hold its own against the Nexus. If my eyes aren't deceiving me, I'd say the E4GT renders graphics more smoothly than the Nexus.

That because the nexus rendered everything in hd while the e4gt only has to render in 800x480

I don't see a yellowish tint, but I can tell you that we both loaded a promotional samsung video of nature and the nexus screen is brighter and seems to have more colors than our phones.

there's definitely some sort of color "taint" on the SGS2 screen but you get used to it.. as for the comparison vid, looking at those screens when they had the browser loaded (around the 7:10-8:05 mark espectially), i would definitely say the GN gets the "whitest whites" award. The Epic has sort of a bluish tint.
I would definitely agree, those are the words i was looking for "bluish tint".
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
I should have watched the video from this phone in the first place. I like the GN alot but the 4g Speedtest surprised me. I expected it to be double that of Sprint. I get 10Mbps where I am at so the video made me much more at ease about my service. On the other hand, the ping time is impressive. I would love to have one though because if the development is anything like it has been lately on the Nexus S 4g then it will have loads of ROMs. Hell, someone already has a version of ICS from the international SGS2 booting on the NS4G.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Agreed. I'm pretty much settled that my next device will be a Nexus. I was holding out for the Galaxy Nexus but heard the "verizon only at launch" rumors and grew sick. After comparing the specs from the GS2 and the GN though.. I really believe from a hardware perspective the GS2 is tops (bluish tint aside). The memory card slot is a must have for me and ICS is just around the corner.
Also.. i don't anywhere NEAR 10mb/s in my area on 4g. more like... 3 or 4. :-/
Pretty cool. Thanks for the vid. I can't wait for ics on our phone.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I was sure that the GN would smoke the E4GT...but it looks like E4GT held it's own. I'll go ahead and hold onto mine until I see something that out performs it a little more impressively. Something weird I saw though. I noticed that the E4GT in that video had some serious response lag when he tapped a link. Mine has never lagged like that....even when stock. Maybe he needed to clear cache/cookies. Lol
BTW, I get 4G download speeds of between 7-11mb....but then again, I do live half a block from a tower.
If it can keep up now imagine when we get ICS
Awsome i still want the epic touch 4g becuase its on the best network and design is beautiful plus ics is around the corner

So GN & GS2 performance are equal.
GS2 has better battery life , better camera , louder Speaker , memory card slot & GN has better display.

Lol, Evo3D. I had it on release day... Brought it back for Nexus S4g... Got another Evo3D, rooted, rommed...meh. Aside from the giant hardware deficiencies it had, especially compared to et4g, umm, just blah. Synergy rom was the only compelling rom. CM7 still has a long ways to go and the other millions of roms? Pretty much themes. Also, sense? Ugh.
The grass is always greener bro, keep that in mind... But... Be my guest.
Though I will definitely be going the Nexus Prime route. Still debating switching to Verizon or waiting for the Sprint version.
Otherwise just be patient... Things will be fine... Especially once we get a true AOSP base.

Seems like the only benefits of the nexxus are the screen, nfc, and ics, otherwise 1.2 GHz processor (not sure what chip it is), 5mp camera, 1.3mp front, etc.
Seems like it's not as big of an upgrade as most expected. Once we get ics I'll be happy. I dont see myself utilizing the nfc, and the bigger screen isn't worth however much I'd have to pay. I hope Samsung is on top of the ICS update.

The screen (except in fullscreen mode for games that support it and video) will likely be the same size (of active area) or perhaps closer to 4.3" in scale...remember the on-screen buttons. Though the resolution must be stunning.
I heard it was supposed to be the new OMAP platform, but, I don't recall getting any official comfirmation of that.
The FFC I thought was the same 2.0mp that we have. Though the 5mp seems like a downgrade I'll bet that the optics are better. Besides, making the pictures 'bigger' without adding any high-quality detail is pretty pointless.
I don't care much for NFC myself...and the 16:9 aspect ratio I find very irritating...but, remember on-screen buttons...sometimes....
I'm going in for the Official Google Experience, early updates and no horse-**** when it comes to source code (I'm looking at you Samsung with their older-than-release kernel and HTC with their half-of-the-source code). If it is the same as my ET4G plus a little resolution bump minus a couple meaningless megapixels I'm game.
...who knows, it might even support EVDO rev.b that is pointless to worry about. though, if it is an OMAP those are known for their awesome overclockability...
I'm definitely going to get one, but, I'm not going to be a release-day whore like I usually am. This ET4G is a stellar phone as it is and I'm still enjoying it thoroughly.
Go for it, one less person to make threads like this.

If it comes to Sprint, I'm laying down the money for this phone. I love my Epic Touch but I haven't tried a Nexus phone yet and ICS looks amazing, along with the hardware that comes with the Galaxy Nexus.
I'll be getting rid of this phone to go back to my Nexus S and just hold onto it until the Galaxy Nexus comes out for Sprint. (if it does)
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Yeah man I like flashing roms too.. but it doesnt get much better than starburst rom with lost kernel. My set up runs circles around any phone I have ever owned including the Evo 3d. The screen is bigger on the prime and has better resolution but if you use density changer that really doesnt matter. Other than that it doesnt really have any groundbreaking updates as far as hardware is concerned and sooner or later the software updates will be available on our phones anyway. That being said... I think you should go get the 3d based on the fact that you even had to ask.
So far it seems to be that unless you are an HTC device or a GSM Samsung device or a Verizon Motorola device you are going to be stuck with the proverbial red-headed-stepchild-device so far as development is concerned...Unless you get a Nexus...though there is still a splinter between the carrier models I'll take it. CM7 and MiUi are all I really want as options, everything else is gravy after that...like netarchy kernels.
Perhaps I'm wrong and just paranoid about this becoming the same disaster I saw the Epic turn out to be...a device that wasn't intended to be Android until the last minute (from what I understand). After coming from a long line of HTC devices it's hard not to be paranoid about that. Which is too bad since HTC dropped the ball this round and Samsung is really picking up the slack, finally.
Getting a Nexus device hedges against this...

Hello everyone I need some help deciding if I should get the Photon 4G or the Epic Touch? I really want the Photon but I'm a little worried about the pentile display, the lag and random reboots I've been hearing about. I'm worried about the Epic Touch because of the weak reception, plasticky hardware, and I also don't know if the 4.5 in screen is just too big? What do you all think?
Sent from my PB99400 using XDA
To be honest, 4.3 in is probably the optimal size. that or 4 inches. I feel that 4.5 probably is a little too large. The superamoled screen is so much better than the photon's though. Speed wise, epic touch. Signal strength of every single radio, photon no doubt. The photon's radio is better than any sprint phones. Build quality, the photon is more sturdy and the touch is obviously thin and more plasticky. Both are great devices in my opinion.
Is the pentile noticeable on the Photon?

No it's not. Honestly, I would have stuck with the Photon if the camera had not been so terrible compared to the GS2
I had this same debate also. I was going to get the Photon because of the radio strength but after playing with both in the Sprint store, the SGSII was just faster, brighter, more beautiful display, and I couldn't pass on it. I'm sure the Photon would've been a good choice signal wise from what I hear, but my Sprint service is not so great in my area anyway. Just not sure how much the Photon would've helped. Not to mention the development section here!
You have a 14 trial period take advantage of it. Check them out at a Sprint store and see what you like. Everyone is going to be different. I personally don't find the screen to too big. It is by far the smoothest Android device I have ever used.
I've had both phones.....
The screen on the photon is very good, the qhd resolution makes text and pictures crisper than on the epic touch. However, I love the vivid colors on the samoled+ display and I like the extra real estate so I do prefer the epic touch screen overall. Both phones way better than evo3d and the photon really isn't too far behind the epic touch.
The epic touch is significantly snappier than the photon for general usage and web browsing, I dont do any game so can't comment on that.
Radio, both are good for me, I live in Los Angeles so I have always gotten excellent reception with all my sprint phones. 3g and call performance has been equal. GPS has been much better on the photon. 4g performance noticeably better on photon as well. Wifi equal.
For my needs, I prefer the epic touch. I had the original epic 4g and that phone was a piece of ****. I feel Samsung did a much better job with the epic touch. Fwiw I haven't had LoS yet.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
No reason to get a photon unless its free.
Even my mom with an evo 4g finds the et4g better to hold. Mostly weight+thickness.

Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Which do you think is better? What are the pros and cons of both?
Sent from my PB99400 using XDA App
I haven't used the Photon but I'd argue that 4.5 isn't too big at all. I first got the Epic Touch for my wife who's 5 foot nothing with tiny hands and she loves it. Then I upgraded from my Epic and love the extra screen space. Don't waste your money on a Photon. This phone is amazing! It's by far the fastest Android phone I've seen and the screen is so beautiful, I have a hard time switching to my Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Photon has a really good radio, I got reception in places I didn't use to. The pentile display was only noticeable when was looking for it. It was a solid device. The only lag I had with it was a couple second lag after unlocking the lock screen. Only con when I gave to my wife was that the development was slow but it scenes to have picked up now.
The topic touch ok the other hand has a better screen imo, I like how thin it is even with a case on it. I don't have any reception problems. No los yet (knock on wood). The only problem I've ever had with the epic touch is I can't use youtube on 3g. It works on wifi but not 3g, its been like that for me on stock and calks rom.
In the end its all about what YOU want in a phone. Do you want good reception with a webtop experience it do you want a nice screen with lots of mods to choose from? What ever one mets your needs should be the one you get. Obviously enough for me it was the epic touch. Good luck man.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Photon's signal strength is better and its speaker is louder. Epic touch is faster and has a better screen(but lower Res) and camera. Remember though if you want to flash custom kernels with a regular cwm recovery on the Photon , unlocking the bootloader breaks 4g. I had both phones. The Photon is a great phone, but the Touch is even better. You can pick up the Photon for less though. My bro got one for 49 at BB, compared to the Touch for 199. Both are cheaper online.
sent from my Epic 4g Touch
Epic 4G Touch all the way. No problems with LOS here, and I live next to the Everglades where usually it's 1-2 bars for ALL carriers, yet my texts are always nice and fast, but the 3G speeds are slow here, not in the more urban areas, but again, that's Sprint's fault lol.
I'm not a fan of big phones, but the difference in size of the photon and the Touch is a few mm, the display just takes up a larger part of the screen.
LoS is mostly on rooted devices, so if you plan on running stock like me, you won't have much problem as 9/10 times,a Touch with LoS is rooted and running something other than stock kernel.
And just incase you do get LoS, it's much better than a laggy, random rebooting phone, and there will eventually be a fix.
Plus, battery life is amazing.
And it's $100 at the Target Mobile Store last time I checked, so no brainer.

As a phone, the S2 is absolutely fantastic. Does everything I want it to do. As a carrier, I'm still on the fence with t-mobile. Data speeds are plenty fast, but data reception seems to be a mixed bag.
well... when it comes to Reception, that is really the nature of the AWS technology which requires 2 wide bands 1700+2100 for up and down to work

Now that I am on the Galaxy S2, I can tell you that it is by far the best phone that I have ever owned. Even stock, it is absolutely blazing fast. After I put beastmod on it, the thing just flies, and this is before OCing. Keep in mind that ICS is supposed to be able to utilize dual-core technology to it's fullest so when the update comes up (it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when), our phones will be in for a nice tune-up. As for as internet speeds go, I can tell you that it is BLAZING fast. It is faster and more reliable than when I had my G2 (which was just last year).
I can't post pictures but I can tell you that the fastest I have ever gotten with my S2 (in the same service area that I tested my G2 just last year) is 31MBPS. For daily usage, I consistently get 7-14MBPS. I am downloading HD videos off of Youtube in a matter of 5-10 seconds. I am downloading and finishing music downloads as soon as it pops up in my notifications bar. The phone is fast in every way, and everything flows so well together. No lag, no hassle, it just works.
got my phone a few days back from my awesome girlfriend, amazingly fast, battery only lasts a day, from 9 till 6, as i always use data connection, 1850mhz, not much of juice for this 1.5 dual core monster, resolution is a draw back with this nice screen 4.52" i am talking about, only 480*800? meh, waiting for miui roms........ only alpha versions atm, touchwiz looks gay.
speaker is way better than i9000, louder at least! some people say they want metal back cover, i say hey, it is light!!! with this kinda size!
i would give 9 out of 10 for this phone, i wanna buy the sprint version, lol, cdma 2000. not available in china yet, too bad.

After going from a 4s to the e4gt, I miss the 4s camera and the better quality sounding audio output. I've had this one for nine months now and the screen burn in is getting on my nerves. Going to pen tile displays was samsung's choice for screen lasting longer and less apt to burning. I didn't notice a screen door effect on the s3 either. Even though the cameras are virtually the same, I can see how having a faster focus helps in certain situations with the s3. Its low light is noisy though like lots have mentioned.

Its the way things goes on in consumer world. More noise is created by people who's stuff is not working. I work for verizon fios and we only hear 5 to 10% customers call in to complain but some might come to wrong conclusion that fios always breaks. Thats how it is. I have had no issues with my e4gt. Love everything about it.
