You don't need the same micro-usb cable that came with the phone. any micro-usb cable will work just as good. I have found that the cable that comes with this phone works well only with this phone and constantly loses connection with other devices. If your looking for a replacement cable, I would stay away from the Samsung OEM cable.
Stay away from cheap Sears ones to.mine makes my touch screen all jumpy while it is plugged in.

I got a few of these a while back. They are identical in every way to the cable that came with my Infuse, AT&T Galaxy S2 and now my T-Mobile Galaxy S2. They are "real" Samsung cables (not that it matters).
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Repla...ef=sr_1_1?rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1324396585&sr=8-1
and here with the OEM charger: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Travel-Charger-Adapter-MicroUSB/dp/B0049IE70I/ref=pd_cp_cps_1
That being said, the 98cent cables from Monoprice work perfectly fine.
I have bought plenty of other cables, but its just that the cable my SG2 came with is really good and it fits nicely and secure in my phone. I've bought a lot that seem to not stick in the slot properly
This is the cable it cane with.

Thats not the same cable that comes with the t-mobile galaxy s2. That charger isn't the t-mobile galaxy s2 oem charger either.
To the op, I have yet to see a place that has the actual cable or chargers that come with our phones.
Edit: op, the Tmobile sensation 4G micro cable is a decent cable and does sit securely in this phone. I'd take that cable as a 2nd choice if needed urgently.

I don't have my phone since it arrives tomarrow, but every BlackBerry cable I've ever tried on my Vibrant worked just fine. Heck I even use my wifes BlackBerry car adapter now and then. They both use the micro usb cable. I can't see why they would be any different for the SGII.
Yeah I have the sensation 4G cable as well. I bought these gold plated cables online, but they don't charge my phone. Spent $10 for 3 of them. What a waste.
I previously bought 3 other cables from a different company and they were a POS. They came apart with in weeks. No joke. But I found that original SG2 T-MOBILE cable to be amazingly good. I wouldn't mind spending cash on them.

That's not the cable that came with mine. I got the same cable for the T989 as I got with the AT&T Infuse and the AT&T GS2 i777. All except the Infuse came from corp stores in sealed boxes. I guess they change "official cables" depending on their inventory. Mine all are all (Amazon ones and the ones in the box) identical to this one: http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/APCBU10BBEBSTD as are the ones I linked to on Amazon and all have the Samsung logo on them and are sealed Samsung packages with the part number on them. If you go to the link above click on the "see all" button.
Also added a pic of the charger that came with both GS2's (AT&T and T-Mo) but not with the Infuse, that was slightly different but the cables were the same. It too is the same as the one from Amazon I linked to that was like $10 for the OEM cable and OEM charger.
Oh wow. I got completely different cables and charger. Mine came sealed too and they have the Samsung logo. I'll upload some pics when I get home. The quality build on the cable and charger are really good. That's why I wanna get some spares.

That picture is the exact charger/cable that comes WITH the infuse and not the gs2. You got shafted. As the cable that comes with the gs2 is more premium and the charger is like the ipod/iphone one but in black.
Guess chargers just aren't your thing.
Thanks, your photo is very helpful since it confirms what I've haven't otherwise been able to confirm, the charger outputs up to 0.7A.
I picked up a T989 off of ebay that didn't come with a charger. Hmm. Anyway, my Nexus One chargers seem to work fine with it, but 0.5A chargers do not charge it. FWIW, the T989 manual at Samsung pictures a charger that looks like this one at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005OSURT2
which is claimed to be up to 1.0A
The only problem with the oem cable is that it is too short.
If you're still looking for it search Droid Charge OEM charger on eBay.

Can anyone tell me the exact model number for the simple USB wall charger?
I had it for the GSII.
Looking to buy off ebay.
Mine came with a different charger that needs converter. Picture below...
I bought this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/120869020359?ssPageName=STRK:null:IT#ht_1116wt_905
because my Gnex shipped with an European plug and US adapter (which I hate carrying around). It is OEM and you get the wall plug and USB cable as well.
does it really matter what usb wall adapter is used? I bought a generic one that can double as a car adapter for when I need it in the car and it works fine for me when plugged into the wall.
what if the charger overheats the $600 dollar phone and it catches on fire then destroys your $500,000 house...
Better 7 dollar charger than -500,600 loss....hmmmm?
they sold out and now I cant find any wall charger like that, the only wall charger similar is this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006YCORR0/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A1SALXWWS9Y6O

That's the only reason I haven't bought that one yet. It's the same USB cable that came with the Nexus S, but I want the same one that came with the Galaxy Nexus, but with a US adapter like that one.
Is there a place to get the same charger that shipped with the Verizon Galaxy Nexus (without the Verizon stickers)? I've searched everywhere, but can't seem to find anything official.

No idea which ships with Verizon version but Amazon has the little OEM 1.0A US charger which is what I got. It works great. I just use the Motorola micro usb cables. My GSM Nexus came with a travel adapter but with UK blades only. I ordered a replacement from Clove but it was missing the other blades too. Either Clove misrepresented the description because it claimed to have multiple blades you can switch out or Samsung packaged mine wrong so I got a refund.
I'm willing to bite for the full price of the Samsung MHL adapter just because I know the S3 has some problems without the official one. Anyone know of the best place to buy it? Amazon shows one but it ships from the UK and the one on Samsung's site is not compatible. Is it not out yet?
Anyone else picking it up?
I don't think it is out yet but yes, I might be getting one. It will be a whole lot easier surfing the web on my tv via the phone than using the clunky tv remote control.
I remember reading some post of a user buying one from ebay for about 9 bucks and it worked brilliantly.
i may take a chance on monoprice

I have gotten lots of good things from them including a 75ft HDMI CL2 cable for $30 shipped and a universal GPS mount that works great for any phone for like $5 shipped....and it's never been junk really, always decent quality, very happy with them over the years for any type of audio/video/cable/adapter
only thing is no way to know if it is compatible yet until someone bites, so I may do it one day soon
Well my only thing about some of the non Samsung ones is I read they don't output 1080p if that matters to you.

I personally prefer OEM items. They usually sell for around $11.
eBay, Amazon.
I already checked with Monoprice and they said that their adapter is not compatable with the S3. The Monoprice adapter is a 5 pin adapter and Samsung changed the S3 to an 11 pin adapter. There is a 5 pin - 11 pin adapter available. Most of the mhl adapters out are 5 pin and will not work with the S3. That is what I have been told. The Samsung mhl adapter is $40. You could get the Monoprice 5 pin mhl for $11 and a 5 pin - 11 pin adapter for another $10. That would work but I would personally wait for a cheaper 11 pin mhl adapter to come out than hook up multiple adapters.
constant power needed?
I was really interested in getting one of these but it looks like you will need to have an HDMI cable AND a micro USB connected to a wall socket for the MHL adapter to work... is this true, and if so, is it worth all the cable hassle?

Yes please let us know what they tell you. I thought they flipped the pins so only the official Samsung adapter would work. If 720P works, I'd be totally fine with that...

Its a no go with those:
" Regarding our MHL adapter and the upcoming release of the Galaxy S3 in the U.S. We have tested and confirmed that the S3 uses a different pinout in regards to MHL, so our current MHL device will not work for it. We have already put in a suggestion for a device that will fully support the new S3, and we are actively working on cases and other accessories for the S3 as well. "

Any chance the MHL adapter also charges the phone? With 1%/min or game play, I can't imagine it will last very long during a game and outputting to TV...

Yeah, I knew that, I comparing the price to the generic 5pin MHL adaptor which we could use if samsung didn't decide to change to 11pin.
I guess it will never be as cheap since its a niche product for the S3.
This might sound silly but my TV doesn't have a HDMI port (it's pretty old but still slim)
Is there any other type of converters like scart to micro usb (sounds unlikely)

Same here. After doing some research it looks like an unbranded Samsung MHL adapter for the S3. The picture isn't clear enough to get the model number for comparison, but I'm pretty sure after looking at the FCC markings and other things that don't line up with the new S2 MHL adapter. :good:
Ordered it a few mins ago
This one's $20 shipped.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-MHL-T...063258?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3f1c05845a
Looking forward to hearing feedback from someone who gets one of these generic adapters.
I spoke with Monoprice's customer service last week and they said they plan on having their own compatible S3 MHL cable before October. I'll probably wait until then as I know theirs will work and should be fairly cheap.
Down to $22 eh? Last I checked the knock-offs were $30, and the samsung official was $40 (now $35).
I'm going to get one of these 11pin mhl-hdmi cables when they finally drop down to $10 like the S2's is, mainly because the 5-to-11 adapter I'm using on my 5pin S2 cable is TOO WIDE for my incipio silicrylic case (and most others) so I have to bend the silicone down. So, fair warning about the adapter for the adapter
Has anybody received one of these from eBay yet? If so, how well does it work?
I've seen a few too many discussions regarding plugging in subpar adapters into these phones that have caused problems. So I may be a bit paranoid but I think I'll stick with official Samsung adapters. Good price though if it works.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any good replacement micro USB cables. Mine has started to act funky and only charges correctly at a certain angle.
I know there are several cheap cables out there on Amazon and eBay but I was looking for something reliable such that if I flash through Odin or some type of future Bootloaders I do not wanna risk bricking my phone because of a bad cable.
Can anyone suggest or link me to official and not knockoff Samsung cables or some other alternative that works well. If not can on suggest a reliable Brand that I can search for.
Thanks.
Belkin make very good cables indeed. I have several; give them a shot. They're not overpriced, either.
I would stay away from the cheap ebay ones (as you said) - they don't seem to work correctly, never seem to charge/connect to my S3 properly.

This is the type of cables that I use. I bought 8 of them last year, and I have put them in my car, my wifes car, my daughters car (with cheap USB chargers of course). I put chargers on a couple of my motorcycles using them. I have a pair of bluetooth intercoms for my helmets that need micro-USB chargers for them both. I had to buy another bag of 8. I've given a couple of them away. So I have about a dozen charge connections, and only about $25.
There is no reason to pay more the $2 each for these cables. The USB works on them. They charge over USB. They charge at the high charge rate. They work correctly and they are reliable. And if one of them DOES ever fail, I won't feel bad.

Stay away from the 89c cables from Hong Kong, they are horrible quality and don't conform to USB wiring standards. I had a bad experience the other day when I tried to plug the emergency cable I keep in my bag into my S3, wouldn't go in, I thought I'd somehow bent the charging port on my S3 but really it was just the ****ty cable.
Both ports connect perfectly to cell phone and computer. - The length of the cable is the right size (90 cm), not too long and not too short. - I have been using it for some weeks and it works fine for both transferring data and recharging my phone.http://dx.com/p/usb-charging-data-cable-for-samsung-galaxy-ace-s5830-90cm-length-59092
Although monoprice are quality the cable's micro usb side(metal part) isn't as long as the Samsung cable and they don't tend to stay in as well. But it's not that bad but noticeable. I love monoprice besides shipping costs

Pretty much any micro usb cable from a reputable manufacturer will work (its the chargers where you get the differences). I've used my S3 cable, an old Motorola cable, and a monoprice (generic) cable for charging it and other devices with no problems.
Some generic cable don't work very well. I've had charging problems. You can get the Motorola cable pretty cheap on amazon.
Mine stopped working after about 3 weeks. The cable was never bent or even removed from the wall adapter either! It's very possible that you didn't bend the cable in your sleep, and instead the cable just stopped working like mine did. Since then, I've just been using one of my many HTC cables plugged in to the Asus wall adapter that came with my N7 FHD. It works perfectly!

Buy the amazonbasics one. Cheap, good quality, gold plated, nice thick feel to it and very long!

I have not tested it on the tablet, but I charge my phone all day with it at work. Using the OEM HTC outlet adapter, it provides AC charging.

Here's a link to one of the cables I bought: http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=9761&seq=1&format=2
This one is the 3ft cable but they also have 3ft and 6ft premium cables in black and white. If you go back a page to the full listing of USB cables scroll down to the section USB 2.0 Cables - Micro-B Type and you'll see all the different cables you're looking for. The first 4 are the premium cables. I got both 3 and 6 ft cables and no problems with charging times.

Pretty much any micro usb cable will work (its the chargers where you get the differences). I've used my S3 cable, an old Motorola cable, and a generic cable for charging it and other devices with no problems.

The cable is a big factor in charge rates.

This is true! I think the post you quoted would have been better stated by saying that any cable FROM A REPUTABLE MANUFACTURER should work just fine. Not just ANY cable because, unfortunately, there are many 3rd party cables that are just junk. If you have a cable from your current or previous phone, and it's a phone manufactured by a reputable company, then it should work without a problem.

Fixed my post I've never bought a no name cable but I can imagine if they're cheaply/poorly built they'll have terrible impedance and charge too slow.
Also note that really long cables will charge slower (unless they use lower guage wire)
For Monoprice, avoid the 24AWG ferrite bead ones (the ones that go for about $1 for a 3-foot one). While they seem like quality cables at first, I've had 4 and 3 of them have gotten flaky over time (the D+/D- ones broke on one of them so it doesn't talk to a computer anymore, and the other two often lose connection when moved around).
I have a bunch of different standard cables from eBay (different lengths), even the colorful ones. All work without problems. It's a digital cable ( 2 data and 2 power lines). if it's not broken or shorted any cable should work. Of course if you approach the maximum length (5m -15 ft) of usb and the cable is not up to the specs it may start failing but for 1-3 m should not have problems with any cable. If we speak about the power adapter (not cable) it's another story. There are many variants and not all provide the specified power, but if the specs are correct the 2A and 3A ones should work. Car adapters , an even more different story. I'm not using my Nexus 7-2 in car (have a build in Android navi now), but I used the first gen Nexus 7, and I tried 3 different adapters until I found one which provided enough power to charge the tablet with GPS and navi on (most will let the tablet slowly discharge). I think this model require less power so maybe even some which did not work will work now.

I did two tests both using the Asus power adapter that came with the device and these are the specs for it from the Asus website:
Output:5.2V 1.35A/7W for other USB device
Input:100-240V AC, 50/60Hz universal
I attached two pictures using battery monitor widget. Just adding in too my n7 is unlocked and rooted but completely stock other than that. The first picture is with the Asus USB cable that came with the device and the second picture is with my 6ft premium cable from monoprice. Sorry if this isn't what you were asking for.

yeah was looking for the mA delivered to device...have you noticed any difference in how long it takes to fully charge the n7? I know there's tons of cables just looking for one with comparable performance to stock one.

I haven't actually been able to test the time it takes to fully charge since I usually charge it overnight but I'll try to run some tests and time how long it takes with the different cables and I'll post my findings. From what I've seen so far from using it, I haven't noticed any difference with charge time between the stock cable and the monoprice one With my experience using it to charge my droid razr (xt912) definitely no difference with charge time compared to the stock motorola usb cable. I'm sure with the n7 it's totally fine.
