Volume question - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Coming from the evo I am "accustomed" to a setting in sounds that allowed me to set all the volumes together. So if I turn my volume down, it adjusted it across everything, like notifications, ringer etc...
Did I miss something on this phone that allows for that? I have only had it for 1 day. I am dieing for my CM rom but its not for our phone..
thanks in advance

We have CM. Check in development under "very aosp kang" and thank bubby...hes the man!

Samsung has done a few weird things regarding volume and notifications/ringer control.
Download the app "Volume control" from the market. There is an option to link notification volume to ringer volume.

trying the cm build now.. thanks.
I really loved my evo and am still not sure this is the phone for me.. i want it to be but my evo has such great memories. I do not have 4g where I live so my 3g speed is only 500kbps
UDPATE - ehh its a nice step forward but my captive buttons didnt work (home, search) I will follow his thread for sure.. I appreciate his work too since I could never do what he does. Trying Blaze now..

Yeah, CM just came out for our phones, it'll get better but blazer is definitely a better daily driver right now. I came from the EVO as well.....stick with this phone, its a beast of a machine and only going to get better with all the great devs we have.

cm6 v.s. Fresh 3.2 ?

Ok Im all backed up and ready to give it a go. I just have a few questions.
I don't use the Sense Launcher and have almost nothing on my home screens. just the scrolling dock at the bottom. launcher pro.
What are some things I am going to lose?
What is the differences in the Camera? Details?
What are the differences in the Dialer?
I like the dialer on Fresh 3.2 because of the FB integration.
I don't use 4G
I have not used HDMI as my flatscreen has a CPU connected already.
Is it possible to have the gallery from 3.2 with the FB pictures tab? or is that a sense thing?
Basically I don't know what all is strictly sense.
the default aosp dialer has what i consider to be a fault. you can't just spell out the name of contact. so i started using DialerOne.
dont' forget to check out both CM6 related threads (both are a bit quiet, but will answer many of the questions you may cross...search is your friend)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735596
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=729802
not sure on the FB stuff since I don't use it except to fill in the pics in my contact list.
give it a whirl. it will be a bit different.
enjoy.
Thanks Draginmagik (sportbike rider?) I had already thought out what I wanted to ask while at work and only had time to ask while on lunch. Figured Id get some input from some people who had used both but your input is appreciated to. I forgot about dialer one. That is one of my favorite things about the dialer I have. I tried Dialer One on The moment but couldn't get it to come up with the green button. I guess thats not a problem with the evo.
A few things ive noticed in Fresh 3.2 Vs Cyanogen mod is that...
Fresh's battery life (by itself, no kernal flashed) is by far the best of any of the ROMS ive used.
I like the sense camera sooooooo much more than the default android camera so thats a no brainer for me.
I do like the AOSP call history though, its much easier to navigate to and through.
Overall, im running Cyanogen right now but ill probably go back to Fresh later tonight... the battery difference is amazing.
Reading a little more I don't see where Sprint vvm / weird text message is there or not. I hated that on the Hero AOSP roms. Also want to get opinions on GPS as i need it to work at the end of this week. I will be flashing this tonight, just want to get some feedback so dont need the "just try it" post. Again, Im just trying to get a comparison so I know what to look for faster after I flash to be sure I like it before I head home this weekend. Once I get on the road and get back home, phone playtime is over until I get caught up at home . hahaha.

Have you tried Kings ASOP kernrel? Im using #3 BFS and its great if I dont use the phone but it seems to suck down pretty quick when the phone wakes up. I'm over the battery thing, I just started carrying my usb cable in my back pocket and hit up a usb plug when I see one. lol But thanks for the info. Ill keep an eye on that too.

Can you explain the difference? I just figured out on the Fresh camera that if you touch the screen it focuses on that spot. Awesome feature. Wish my real camera did that.

not sure how the stock CM6 kernel is. a few days ago the CM6 nightly was upped to the .34 kernel. the custom ROM's are mostly on the .32 kernel still. i ran Kings on CM and it was 'ok'. the UI was smooth but the battery life reminded me of my previous stock kernels. perhaps as he rolls out more kernels that will be adjusted.
Cyanogen wrote the camera app in CM6. it also has the point touch focus. it has been much improved from the default aosp camera.

All nanded up and flashed and restored most of my apps. Pandora sounds great. Ill test it in the shop but in the hotel its loud! I didn't Know that was a feature.
I liked the look of the dialer until the phone rang. YUK!
Im trying to finish up my Manup them but not sure if the ZIP I already have for the notification bar will work with CM6
The camera work good so far, as long as the pictures take good im OK with that. I hate 3d gallery, always have. its on my list of things to fix.
I downloaded the one in the link. Your on nightlys right? do they seem stable enough for you? whats the best way to try those out? The github link is kinda over my head.

Cant forget having the ability to zoom while recording video. That's one of the big pluses of CM.
Well I found that the stock notification bar zip that I had on file won't work. I got the little blue android of death. After a quick reflash of cm6 all is well. still need that manup theme.
i'm on the 9/15 nightly. i think it was the 'swipe away items from the notification bar' feature or maybe a camera update that got me to flash up from the CM6final.
running it with -snap 7.6bfs kernel
currently, the CM6nightlys have slowed down so you just kinda keep an eye on the thread for nifty new features or updates...other than that, it's been very very stable for me since well before CM6final was released.

[q] ec05 vs eh17

Big fan of the ACS team and also the phoenix rom but im sick at home and thinking about exploring for a bit. What are some of the differences and things i can expect from switching to EH17..ACS ICS EH17 Rom to be exact looks like next target? Thanks in advance fam...
I ran that rom for just a short time. Every time I try out a GB leak I ALWAYS end up ditching it.
I can't recall just what it was that made me give up on the ICSEH17. if you've tried any other GB roms then they are kinda all the same.
I remember that I didnt care for the ics launcher. There was no voodoo mods (on account of it being a leak). It didn't seem to have any bugs or issues like CM7 does.
If I recall anything more I'll try to drop back in and update here.

The Volume+ app included in ThunderHawk might satisfy your volume boosting needs in place of Voodoo.
Voodoo sound was added in Nubernel, kernel replacement in Development.
Thanks for the volume boosting tips for thunderhawk and the nubecoder kernel. It's really a must have for me when using a crappy FM transmitter in my non-bluetooth havin car.

[Q] How to remove "power-off transition" after flashing Blu Kuban 1.0.5.1 ROM

[Q] How to remove "power-off transition" after flashing Blu Kuban 1.0.5.1 ROM
After I flashed the Blu Kuban 1.0.5.1 ROM onto my Samsung E4GT, it added this bizarre and annoying screen transition which triggers every time you "sleep" or "power-off" the phone. After much disappointment with Blu Kuban, I changed to Calkulin's E4GT 2 v1.6 (ICS) ROM. Interestingly, the obnoxious "television-off" screen transition effect seems to have stayed, and I cannot figure out how to get rid of it. I just want my phone to simply black-out, not perform some kind of circus act. Any idea how to get rid of this?
EDIT:
Ok, this new sleep transition effect seems to come pre-packaged with ICS. I reverted back to Gingerbread with Calkulin's E4GT v3.0 ROM, and guess what--no goofy effect when sleeping and powering-off! Yay? Well here's a new problem: I want to be running on ICS not Gingerbread. Is there some way I can run on ICS and lose the transition effect, or am I stuck with Gingerbread?
It's called crt off animation, its removable use the search feature. Its that button that looks like a magnifying glass  you could just deal with the transition, its a 2 second animation and if your switching your screen off why are u staring at it hard enough for a brief animation to annoy u so bad you wouldn't use ics because of it

-EViL-KoNCEPTz-, Thank you for your reply. I actually spent a good hour or more searching for an answer to my question; however, I would not know this transition was called a "crt off animation". I suppose that comes with experience. Hopefully other folks falling into my category will find this thread useful. I will spend some more time researching how to disable this. How could this little feature bother me enough to stop using ICS? Well, everyone has their peeves, this one being mine (it hurts my eyes and feels laggy). Again, thanks for the guidance.

It doesn't bother me cuz when I shut my screen off I don't watch it turn off, lol. That's why I was wondering how it could bother u. I think in themes and apps section there's a mod to disable it it's been available for a while and was incorporated in some GB roms. There's both crt-on and crt-off, its designed to mimic a tube TV/crt monitor turning on and off wwhich is how it got its name, some may call it tv-on/off but it's technical name from the developer is crt-on/off so there's alot more info when u search crt vs TV

Smokey -- don't remember the details as it has been quite a while since I was on Calk's ROM, but I seem to remember there being a set of flashable mods from Calk a post or two after the OP, including one to disable the CRT off animation.
On the kuban, it's in the ROM updater (accessed via the system menu) under "general mods". (Side note: Ravaged Pheonix has put together a great Blu Kuban FAQ: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1809881) IMHO I'd say give the kuban another chance -- it took me a couple of days to get used to it and get it all tricked out the way I wanted, but it's really a kick-ass ROM. Don't get me wrong; Calk's ROM was awesome too, it's just not been in active development for a while. Also, cool if the blu kuban isn't your cup of tea; for a close-to-stock experience Calk may still be pretty hard to beat -- again, been a while since I was looking for a close-to-stock ROM. Another one I have experience with is Agat63's -- lightly themed with a more AOSP/ics look to it, but still basically a debloated/tweaked/optimized stock ROM w/o heavy theming or mods; agat generally focuses on stability 1st, performance enhancement 2nd in his tweaks.

AOSP ROMs and Google Play Music

Up till fairly recently, Google Play Music has played pretty well flawlessly in AOSP ROMs, but with the most recent builds of PACMAN, Paranoid Android, and Liquid Smooth, if I do anything else on the phone, the music skips, and that's no good.
Is there a fix for this? I tried making it so the phone doesn't underclock and that didn't change anything, so I don't think it's a lack of power. It also doesn't happen in Pandora, and you'd figure it'd happen there if it was anything to do with the music playing capability.
Also, while I have your attention, what is the difference between the unofficial AOKP and the other ROMs that makes it so that specific version of AOKP is the only AOSP ROM I've found that renders Google Play Music's album art properly?
Either way, <3 the AOSP ROM developers on this phone.
Hi,
I have never messed with voltage until yesterday, where I brought every voltage for cpu speeds down 25mA. Immediately after I did that, I noticed this problem, except my gs3 only does this when unlocking/locking the device. Hope this helps add to the thought process of someone smarter than me who will likely answer this question for us ^.^
Is this on the 4.2.2 builds? If it is...expect issues on those, the source for the official 4.2.2 has not been released yet (and no OTA yet) so remember that all of this functionality has to be built from the ground up
As soon as source is available, small bugs like this should be squashed
That's it! It's the shift to 4.2.2. That's the difference.
I'll be patient, I suppose.
I'm really hoping for a ROM that doesn't have any game breaking bugs, soon. We're so close.

I found a fix, for anyone else that's having the problem.
Just turn off touch sounds. Done. It works perfectly.
Now to fix the Google Play Music album art rendering bug that all ROMs except for the unofficial AOKP seem to have.
I don't have any touch sounds and I only use haptic feedback on call pickup/hangup and on the power widget. Can that effect it too?...

Any sound playing can effect it, even the volume turning up/down sounds.

Recommendations for 4.0 ROM with Strong Vibration Settings

This may be an odd request, but I'm looking for recommendations for 4.0 based ROMS that have strong vibration for notifications and incoming calls. I've been using Rushing's Intergalactic Infantry for a while now and love the stability and battery life, but I'm missing a lot of calls because the vibration intensity is too week even though I have the settings all the way up. I keep my phone in my pocket and can't feel it vibrating. I even took a completely stock phone and tested the vibration and then installing Intergalactic and the vibration intensity went drastically down. I've used a lot of different ROM's and recall vibration being weak on them, but this is the first one I tested against stock.
I need wifi-calling so can anyone recommend a 4.0 ROM with wifi-calling that doesn't suffer from weak vibration settings? Also, I'm not a fan of the highly themed ROM's like some of the Jedi stuff. A little theming is fine, but I don't want glowing red keys and icons.
Any suggestions?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1861009 try this rom out it was my preferred rom of choice when i was on ICS and the vibration is strong and you can flash a S3 looking like theme to make it keep the stocky look you want with out all the theme stuff you dont want PTMR ROMs are [email protected]$$ you wont be disappointed

I've used some of his other ROM's and they were always stable, I just never liked the look of the Jedi Knight stuff. I had downloaded that one a while back, but never installed it because of the look. I didn't notice the S3 theme so I'll give that a try.
Thanks again.
