So, I just got my Nexus today and have a quick question. If I restore my apps via TB from Gingerbread, will it work properly on my Nexus running ICS? Or should I just do fresh installs of all my apps. If I do fresh installs, can I just restore my data via TB?

I re-installed back-ups that I had from my Atrix, bothn app + data. Majority functions ok, had some glitches with Dolphin HD though for example. Now using Mini so it's all good.

From thunderbolt ? Without tibu and root? Market didnt sync
bump?.............
The Market doesn't sync your apps from one phone to another. You need to have selected the option to back up the info on your phone and have restore on.
You can find this in the Back-up and Reset menu

thanks but I have both phones set to backup and auto restore....so you're saying your apps installed on your nexus from your old phone?
Yes almost all apps installed except for a few (Flash 11, Adobe Air, Adobe Reader). Most likely because they weren't compatible.

Adobe Flash 11 is supporting ICS. Came out yesterday.

So... this whole Google back-up thing; It restores all my (compatible) apps AND the data associated with them? ...
So If I flash a new rom... can/should I rely on this cloud backup thing to get my apps/data back, and is there advantage to using Titanium instead (other than not having to download the files)

I remember JBQ from Google talking about this on twitter a couple weeks ago. The option to let apps restore from the market with data is available for every dev to put in their apps, but very few actually use it.
I personally wouldn't rely on the market to restore the apps with data. For most apps, it won't restore data, just simply re-download the app fresh.
Why can't you use tibu? Put the tibu folder on your galaxy nexus and proceed to use tibu.. worked for me

My GN automatically downloaded all my apps when I first signed in. Obviously this didn't include any previous settings. If this failed you could always try installing app brain on your old phone, syncing and then doing the same on your GN.

What martonikaj says is true. I've read it as well. The devs of apps just aren't that into it for some reason. It only restores the apps, not the settings (at least from the third party applications).

I know, I was talking about prior to the flash release 4, days ago.
What is the recommended batch operation for restoring apps using Titanium backup?
If i backup and restore system data + user apps after flashing ROMs that add files to this list (such as T-mobile wifi calling) will I run into problems?
Should I solely backup and restore user apps, and leave system apps alone?
Thanks. Im using a Telus SG2x w/ Jug 4.1 + Bullet
i would recommend only restoring user apps... and system apps one at a time if needed.

Don't restore apps or data.. download them fresh from the market or you will have issues with Juggernaut

Never restore system data. You can always restore apps plus data. Why you can't on juggarnaut is a problem with that ROM not titanium.

It has to do with the rom + kernel being completely different from stock, and thus a totally different opperating environment.

i dont use juggernaut, but i dont see how it'd make a difference if youre just restoring your apps+data to your data partition. i've never had any issues doing it going from one device to another, one rom to a different rom, or upgrading/downgrading android os's.

2.3.5 vs 2.3.6... new kernel as well. Guaranteed to cause problems with a TB restore.

I've never had a problem and I've been using to backup since it first came out and used it to transfer across multiple devices starting with the G1 on android 1.0 until now with my my ICS tablet and my 2.3.6 sgs2. The only issue would be apps that specifically would not work for certain OS versions. But I guess ymmv.
Ive restored all my apps+data on jugs without any problem

Restore apps with data; not system data.. No issues restoring this way when I was on Juggs.

Whitehawx specifically mentioned not doing this on Juggernaut 4.0 if you were coming from 3.7

I think people are mistaking app data and system data lol. App data can be restored most of the time... But not system data.

Oh btw, it's a lot easier using mybackup root or pro to restore and backup apps.

Hey guys,
i really want to try out ICS but somehow Titanium Backup always freezws after a few apps while backing them up
What can I do now?
If it works for you, what version of Titanium Backup are you using?
Or is there another app that does the same (with market links)?
Thanks
Regards,
Flo

I use myphoneexplorer to make a backup of all my .apk files on my PC(also contacts, sms, notes, alarms)
I've had a recent upgrade of tb(4.9.0.2), but it didn't hugely improve the backup/restore ability on the recent ics releases. Works fine on the beta based roms, and cm9. Try app backup.
Does it always freeze into one specific app? Happens to me pretty often, you just have to exclude that app.
If that's not the case, try My Backup Pro. It is paid app.
titanium backup are so slow in ICS
and like to stuck in the middle
i'm back to GB.....
Used my MyBackup Root to back my stuff up.
But upgrading to ICS worked fine even without a wipe

Happened to me where I tried to freeze app and TB just froze.
Try reboot after installing TB.
Not entirely sure but could have something to do with busybox??? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but you can try update busybox if it doesn't work.
My Titanium Backup work normal on my ICS beta + office.
For me it only freezes sometime when restoring an app. Just force close it and try again.
Hi, I used to play Naught on my Arcs S (GB) but since I install arconium ICS the game is launching but the screnne in not responding anymore...
Do you think it is an ICS issue?
If you've restored it with titanium back-up then may be an issue, re-install from market and restore the data with titanium.
I get this with a lot of games. Try a fresh install or clearing data.
Sent from my LT18i using XDA App
i think i read it somewhere that some games arent compatible with ics and there will be problems with the touch screen or the game wont launch.
yea there are problems on ICS i think

I did that the first time, then I have tried a fresh install and the issue is still there...
So I have to wait the Naught's dev for an update...
Thank all of you for replying
How risky is it to restore apps backed up in TiBu on GB to a new ICS install? I imagine some apps would install differently depending on whether your ROM is GB or ICS.
Another question, are apk's from Play Store downloads saved to your phone? I guess instead of the TiBu route I could pull the apk's off my phone and then batch install with Android Injector.
Thanks.
Can't hurt to try, but don't be surprised if it doesn't work. Apps are stored as apks in /data/app, but if you just restore those you won't have the app data.

Personally I would always reccomend a full wipe and not restoring aps even if its ics to ics.

Well, of course do a full wipe; as for restoring apps, it won't hurt if it ends up not working, just reinstall it fresh, and it saves time if it does work.
You can restore your apps, but can't restore data. However, I've noticed some apps don't like to be re-installed going back to GB. Youtube is one for sure.
I do it all the time with no problem.
