getting an error while manually flashing 4.0.2 (d/l from google servers)
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/app/NfcGoogle.apk")
E:Error in /sdcard/'the file of the update'
and then in the log I have:
file "/system/app/NfcGoogle.apk" doesn't have any of expected sha1 sums;
I have rooted and installed google wallet prior to this.
Have fastbooted into cwm to install.
not sure what the actual cause here is. any ideas?

Google wallet is the exact cause. The hacked versions use a modified version of NfcGoogle.apk. I'm assuming you are using the 8-9mb zip file from Google's servers? That one patches only the files that have updated which is why you are receiving the error. You can try applying the full factory images form this link. It may wipe your phone though.
Should I remove google wallet apk? as I'm in Australia ours didnt come with the option of google wallet, so finding a stock version wont help I dont think?
Cheers
Bump. Getting the same error when performing the manual update of 4.0.2 with a CWM-flashed Wallet app.
I have an error updating with the OTA 4.0.2. GSM Galaxy Nexus.
I have only my phone rooted, and no Wallet installed or something. The error it's only that when the device restarts, it starts the installation, and then a "dead" Android appears with an exclamation sign on it. It fully block the device, and I have to put the battery out and restart.
I have tried so many times, each time OTA comes up.
Some help? Thank you.

okay, i've rooted my evo with success using unrevoked forever. it isnt the latest version, not sure if it matters but the prob comes in when trying to install any of the latest ota updates or any custom roms. i've tried every which way. ie through rom manager, through power down recovery method and i constantly get the same error message. "can't install. aborted" nothing works..i've wiped my phone multiple times and its beginning to get annoying. does anyone, anyone at all have a solution for this prob.
error message " e: can't open/sdcard/update/zip installation aborted"
You need to reinstall any and all system apps that you have removed (the OTAs check to make sure that certain apps are installed and will not install if they are not there). Also, you need to remove any custom recovery (i.e. Clockwork) and reinstall the original one.
no system apps are missing to my knowledge as i factory reset trying to fig out this error. as far as how do i remove clockwork?
Ever since i manually updated to 4.0.4 from a link in the thread ive had weird "sending..." toast dialog popping up.

Here's my log cat from the time the dialog appeared. I think its something to do with the SMS line?? How to i find out who's sending it?

Anyone got any ideas?
My advice, get the official factory image from google for IMM76D.
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Use that to go to stock 4.0.4 (backup what you need you will lose everything)
Once back to stock, just root and install the IMM76I update.

umm didnt want to have to totally reset phone.
Ive downloaded the factory image, how do i install it then?
Use Odin to flash the firmware. Should be fairly easy considering the number of guides available.

Erm ok ive flashed stock Google and as i was signing into Google on first boot to restore contacts i get "sending..." at the bottom of the screen again ...
What the hell is doing this??? Is no one else getting this toast dialog?
And im getting error -101 when trying to download anything from market...
On a plus side the latest update has already come through and its installing right now.
Hi all,
I updated my Nexus 7 (32GB, WiFi model) to 4.4.3 this morning via fastboot flash (Official Google OTA) - and it all went well, except now I can't add any accounts to the tablet.
I keep getting the 'Couldn't sign in - There was a problem communicating with Google servers. Try again later.' message.
I have tried adding it through a few different apps, and some apps try to get me to update Google Play Services, but of course I can't download anything from Play Store without being signed in.
My co-worker has a Nexus 7 which I tried adding my accounts to, and it worked fine.
I have tried various fixes, such as trying to sign in while in safe mode and disabling 2-step verification, neither work.
Has anyone had this issue or been able to resolve it?
I smashed the screen on my Nexus 5 yesterday so until I get that back my N7 is my only contact to the world!

How did you flash the OTA via fastboot? From what I understood, you have to flash the OTA in recovery if doing it manually. You have to flash the actual image files in the factory image if you want to go the fastboot route.

I attempted to flash it via Recovery but got a 'Status 7' error. Some digging around revealed that fastboot flashing stops that error from occuring.
I ended up running the flash-all.bat through fastboot from the OTA download.
Have you ever install freedom?
This is just documenting a question and solution to a problem that took me a long time and a lot of searching to find. My two sons are earch running a Samsung Galaxy S3 with rooted stock ROMs pretty much since the phones were purchased. Out of the blue and just with this latest NJ2 update, one of their phones never received the OTA and would instead get the following error message: "Unfortunately the process com.samsung.syncservice has stopped". This would appear again when I would try to Update Firmware, Update Samsung Software, Update Profile, and Update PRL. After receiving the error, when I would reboot the phone I could update the PRL and Profile, but if I tried to update Samsung software or update firmware, the message would appear again.
Turns out that the solution was just to clear data/cache on the SyncMLSvc app via Application Manager, and then reboot the phone. Now all is well. Hope this helps someone else, and makes the solution a lot easier to find than it was for me.
Hi guys, I really hope you can give me a hand here. I was rooted using method 3. Yesterday I unrooted the device. Today there were some OTA updates, so I downloaded them and wanted to install them. It was 58 if I'm not mistaken. The phone rebooted and started installing the updates and after few seconds a symbol of android popped up with an error message. After that the phone started and said that update wasn't installed and the origanal settings were returned. After that it said that there wen't new updates available. Factory reset didn't help either. Later a new update was available 59 I think, but the same thing happened... I really don't know what to do now.
I have ZF2 64Gb, WW version installed on it.
right now running 2.19.40.22
I'm really hoping for your help
Update: I've don't system wipe and cache wipe from the recovery menu
Update N2: I've managed to install V2.19.40.22 image from official website. But my phone doesn't show me an option to do an OTA update, it says that there aren't any update available. Is there a way to make him check again properly?

Nope I only used root for titanium backup. It's been deleted... I can't even try to install new updates anymore...

Do you mean as in making the file MOFD_SDUPDATE.zit puting it on the SD card and through recovery? The update starts, then says gives an error
In recovery it says:
Veryfying current system...
"/system/build.prop" has unexpected contents
E: Error in /sdcard/MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip
(status 7)
I might have edited my build.prop file back then when I was playing with DPI. Now I can't find the line I edited... please help

That's why you have to flash the pre root firmware first. It restores all the system files so they can pass the check while the OTA runs.
