Greetings to everyone!
Two days ago I received the OTA update to Android 4.4 for my Nexus 7 (razor). I knew that I could not update because of modded recovery, so I tried going back to stock. Everything worked as expected, but the update to 4.4 didn't showed up again, so I decided to flash the factory image that Google released. Android 4.4 booted OK. I completed the sync with my account and Google restored my info. Then, just minutes after that, I tried using YouTube app but it constantly showed up a No connection message. Then the Play Store followed the same behavior and after that no Google app would connect regardless of my strong internet connection. I did everything. I wiped cache/data, did a factory reset... Nothing, they won't connect. And now I can't even sign in with my account. Account manager says that its not possible to connect with Google's servers.
I'm out of ideas... If anyone knows a solution to this, please share it
I apologize for my bad English.
Thanks for reading.
Symptoms
Google Play Services Error - receiving a message " An Application Requires and Update"
when trying to use "Update" , I get "Package file was not signed correctly. Uninstall the previous copy of the app and try again"
when trying to "Deactivate" i get "This app is a device administrator and must be deactivated before uninstalling"
this is now affecting other apps (Google Keep, Hangouts, etc)
I talked to Google already ,cleared download manager, did factor reset twice, no avail, same issue. their recommendation is to contact Asus
Yesterday I unlocked and rooted the tablet, same issue.
Any suggestions? I downloaded "com.google.android.gms.apk" but the system does not let me install it
Thank you in advance , I am stuck for over 3 weeks
You can try going into the Google Play Services app, then force stop, clear cache and clear data. This may do it.
What you may need to do, what I've had to do, is delete the Google account off your device, then add it back. (A reboot in between couldn't hurt.) Why this happens, I don't know.
I suggest to flash a factory image, may be, there is something destroyed in the firmware ...
Just wondering....

I am not sure that I have any clever answers right now, but to clarify the problem, is this with Google Play itself not letting you update or install anything (without producing this error message) or is it a specific app that you are trying to update which is the only one resulting in this error?

It is both
a) Google Play Services require an update (which refuses to install)
b) com.google.android.keep (Google Keep) requires an update (otherwise not letting to open -" This app won't run unless you update Google Play Services"). when trying to update it takes you to the same screen for Google Play Services update which fails.
If it helps, the store shows me 4.0.34 section under "What's new" which I think is not the latest Google Play Services apk
Thank you
tried both...

I tried both (multiple times), as installed by Google Support and forums
a) removal of all accounts
b) reset to factory image.
c) force stop, cache/data clear
same issues
any other thoughts guys? is custom ROM by only answer?
if it helps, this is an LTE tablet
How about this?

Don't know if it is possible but can you get the latest Google Play apk and install it manually?

I tried that too.. with noresults - may be not doing it right.
Used Wugs Nexus Root Toolkit (which I find to be excellent along with instructions) and tried to use ES file explorer to manually copy/load apk - no success.
thank you for trying to help

At this point I'd make backups and flash a new ROM (stock or custom LTE). Something's been corrupted that isn't easily fixable, and you'll save time in the end by starting over from scratch.
I would agree that it sounds very much like something is corrupt in the ROM that you currently have; I would have a browse through the appropriate forums and find a new flavour of ROM to flash onto your device.
I have also heard great things about Wug's toolkit but have yet to use it myself.... about all I *need* to change on my N7 right now is root so that I can install a few choice apps that would not run otherwise, but don't want to wipe everything just for the sake of it
removed google+ from my account, solved.

for all its worth, I solved it by reflushing factory image and removing google plus entry from my google account. no issues now. thanks to all who helped!
If that is what worked, I am glad you have a working solution I can't take any credit for suggesting what you had probably tried anyway.....

Hello guys
I am having problems with my Nexus 7 2013 LTE, After updating using OTA I was not able to download or update Apps using play store, so I removed my account just to find out that I can't re-add the account. So I factory reset the device but again I am not able to add my account.
The message I get is:
Can't establish a reliable connection to the server.
This could be a temporary problem or your Android device may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues , call customer Care.
I tried everything my mind can thing. Wiping data and cache, flashing stock image, locking and unlocking bootloader. Tested using 2 Accounts and I even created a new one from the Nexus without luck. I am not using 2 way verification.
Any help?
thanks
No one has this problem?
Have you tried doing it on both WiFi and LTE?

Make sure your Date & Time is set correctly.
Tested under wi-fi / 3g (no lte here), The date is set correctly.
Under Kitkat all works fine. The problem is only with lollipop. If I get the ota and just update I can't download anything from play store, if I clean install I can't sign in with google accounts.
Hi
I need help.
On Friday I did a factory reset via settings menu on my m8 (TMO-111(DE)-stockrom, locked, s-on, 6.12.111.4-ota) 'cause I want to pass it on to my son.
After the process I completed the initial setup and mentioned messages "Google Play Services needed, please install" (coming from i.e. Hangouts and other Google apps).
I checked in the apps and found the Google play services completely missing. (Yes, they have been there and working before the factory reset.)
After performing another factory resets first via settings and then again (same result...) via bootmenu (again same result) as well as deleting caches and data via fastboot, I started to search for apks for manual installation.
I found them via apkmirror and tryed several 438 versions. After manual installation I get again and again popups saying Google Play services has been stopped.
I assume there is something else missing.
Have tried everything I could think of since friday. Well not everything, until now I try to avoid to unlock the bootloader and root considering the target person...
Maybe someone having a signed RUU 6.12.111.4 or newer which I could flash to get it working again?
Anyone out there having another idea how to fix this?
Regards,
Steffen
Hi. Did you find a solution? I have the exact same issue.
I also have this issue. any update?
I would suggest flashing a gapps package , but that might require unlocking and rooting
Hi,
I'm fairly new to the Android rooting community, that said I have been jailbroken on iOS since the days of 1.1.2 and have rooting experience with KitKat. I have a Nexus 5X and after rooting, the phone worked fine. I installed TWRP 3.0.2 and Xposed framework, but for some reason I was unable to get Xposed to work. After a week of no issues with the phone, the Play Store stopped working, and Hangouts failed to send messages. I could send SMS via Messenger app and would receive the replies in Hangouts. I did a factory reset, and now I am unable to do anything. I cannot login to my google account, use the play store. Whenever I do anything I get a message that says:
Couldn't sign in
There was a problem communicating with the google servers.
Try again later.
I've searched the web and the forums for issues like this and can't find anything. I would really appreciate the help. It may be a simple mistake that I made as I am not fully aware of how the Android filesystem works.
Also when I check for updates, it stays that the last time it checked was: 12/31/1969. My clock is set correctly and I am connected to Wifi.
Wow!!! What ROM and gapps are you running?
I haven't seen this since my LG G2 a couple years ago. Hop in date and time in your settings and turn off automatic date and time and manually add it... Unless you're saying its right there.
I would try going to TWRP and wiping.
Wipe/advanced and then check every box except for internal storage. Then hit home and go back to install, choose ROM then gapps then vendor.
Xposed has to be installed as a zip from recovery before you can install/use the apk (in 6.0.1 anyway-use arm64).

Unfortunately I can't use data either since I am unable to activate my project Fi service (since I am not able to make any data connection).
I've resolved this by wiping and installing PureNexus. No idea what was going on with the factory ROM though.

Any chance you changed your Google account password around the time you reset the phone? I think there is some lockout mechanism if they detect password change then factory reset. I believe it is something like 72hour hold.
