[Q] No ROMs except Cyanogen 7 are working. - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the title says , I tried flashing RunnyMede , Cool3d aces 6 or something like this and Aurora V4.1 and none of those get past the HTC logo , I always flash C7 and it works normally but I want sense 3.0/3.5.. Any ideas? It's not bricked as one roms works right?

1. What hboot do you have?
2. Did you partition your SD card?

1)6.93.1002
2) How do I do it and is it needed?

1. OK, but is it cm7r2, stock, data++ or else?
2. Yes, it is needed. Check the Newcomers's Guide in my signature, it explains everything. Step 5 is about partitioning your SD card.

1) How do I find out? If I installed Cynanogen mod 7 do I have it? If not then I suppose that I have the stock one..
2) I will right now.

Reboot your phone into bootloader. Or power it off, then hold back key + power button, until you get into fastboot mode. There, at the top, you should see the name of the hboot you have (e.g.: Alpharev Data ++).

I see bravo PVT4 ship s-off , after the the hboot version , after that microp-051d then touch panel synw010 then the radio version and date/time
Also , can I partition the sdcard without burning a disc and having to boot the pc with it?

Yes, with a custom recovery.

You mean something like 4ext? I have it..
Also , what's my HBoot then , stock?

I guess it's stock. And 4ext is good, you can do it with that. The usual setup is Fat32 + 1GB ext3/4, depends on the ROM you'd like to flash.

Well now I have two options :
Remove all partitions and start from scratch
No - save my fat32 partition!
Which to choose if I want to install any sense 3.5/3.0 rom?
Also , thanks for helping me.

I have no idea, I never used that recovery. But first, save everything to your computer that would be missed (pictures, videos), also backup your apps if you like and save those as well. Then I think you should start from scratch. Create the partitions, wipe everything and flash the ROM.

Well now I have 1st partition , 2nd one and after that swap or something.. maybe there's more I'm not sure and don't want to continue.. what's the size of each of them? Should I skip the 2nd and swap?

You need a primary Fat32 and a primary ext4 with the size of 1 GB at max. No swap.

So if I have 8gb card , fat32 should have 6573mb and the sd ext 1024mb?

Yap. Something like that.

Done.. Now all I need to do is flash the rom?

First wipe all data, cache and dalvik-cache. Then turn off verification signature in recovery and flash the ROM. But first, check the thread whether it has a stock hboot version or not.

Thanks for your help , everything is working now!
I wonder though , would Desire S Endyminion mod work on the Desire? If not can you recommend any good sense 3.5/3.0 ROM that is working flawlessly? Because Runnymede kinda sluggish.. I'll try cool3d aces v6.

No, I don't think it will work. Check the Desire Index link in my sig, it's up to date and makes it easy to navigate among the ROMs.

[Q] Desire bootloop with new ROM

I'm trying to install a new ROM for a friend (first time I use a Desire) and whenever I try to install a Sense 3.5 ROM (Cool3D Sense 3.5 or BlissMod007 for example), I end in a bootloop. CyanogenMod 7, however, works perfectly fine.
So far:
Flashed newest radio.
Flashed newest RIL.
Flashed cm7r2 Hboot.
Flashed 4EXT 2.2.7 RC5 recovery.
Now what do I do to make the phone work with these ROMs?
What EXT partition did you put on SD card? Did you flash the Right version for CM7 Hboot.

1. Don't know?
2. I used the Bravo CM7r2 on alpharev's site.
1) Ok well these roms are very big. Even with standard Hboot, sometimes there is not enough space so some of the ROM is shipped out to SD-EXT, a partition on SD card that you need to create
2) No, I mean these big roms have a stock version and a CM hboot version. Each version only works on the hboot it was intended for.

1. How would I go about creating that partition?
2. Oh, like that. Ye, I made sure to get the versions intended for cm7r2. Seeing as I haven't made SD-EXT, I doubt this is the problem.
The best way is a little long winded. Suffice to say you need to use Gparted. This you can either burn to CD and boot from it, make a bootable USB disk to run it or create a virtual server within windows and use it that way.
The last option I recommend to use VMware, I have a tutorial in my signature for this.

Followed your advice (although I used VirtualBox) and everything worked on first try. Made the partition 768 MB since most ROMs said 512+. I appreciate the quick answers.

Download 4ext recovery control (it's free) from the Play Store. Install the latest 4ext touch recovery. Then boot in recovery. Make sure you backup to PC all contents on your sdcard, since this will wipe it. In recovery go to tools>partition sd-card. Make a 1gb ext partition. For the rest select skip. Then put what you had on your sdcard. Now you're good to flash the rom I gave you.
You have root access, right?

I said that your radio needs upgrading. It really does, and it's easy to do. Just flash the zip from recovery. I gave you a link a few posts back.
And, yes. You need this recovery since it's the only one that can partition sdcards properly. Or you might want to try the alternative way, with gparted. It's more complicated, but if you insist...
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
Just flash 4ext recovery. It's the best one, and it's easy.

HTC Bootloop Help plz

I have recently downgraded my HTC which was T-Mobile Branded. Ruinning android 2.2.2 and had HBOOT 0.93.
I downgraded the phone in order to root it, so i followed this tutorial successfully. It worked fine on downgraded firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
I then rooted phone using unrevoked. which was not compaitable with firmware, 2.2.2
I then S-off the phone using Alpha 1.8
I then looked around for some roms, Now the issue is whenever, i attempt to install a rom which involves sense. It installs successfully, but then the bootscreen just continues in a loop.
This can be resolved by restoring back to the downgraded firmware?
Now my question is what is the possible cause of this bootloop and sense roms etc?
any suggestions are much appreciated
You didn't read the instructions carefully. Those Sense roms requires ext partition on the sd card.

Did you wipe system partitions prior to flashing? Also did you check what hboot type the rom requires? Stock hboot, cm7r2 hboot, etc.
Try to download Cyanogenmod7 rom here http://get.cm/?device=bravo&type=
Flash this and see if this boots up for you. If you are s-off and is using custom recovery already then you don't really need to go through the whole process again.

Thanks, for the reply. This is an e.g of the rom sense roms i have tried.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431908 and runnyrom which both have similar results.
I have just installed Cyanogenmod7 which installs and functions properly.
and have tried this rom which works fine.

i seem to only face such problems with sense Roms?
I assume the HBOOT is related to the alpha 1.8 which i used to S-OFF.
Im confused as i have the Desire S and have not had such problems before? It normally takes no longer than 5 mins to be up and running with the desire s. However, it seems to be the opposite with this desire?
Tell me what recovery are you using? I haven't used ICS roms in a long while so I'm not sure if it implements the use of sd ext partition out of the box. I feel it's your sd-ext partition (or the lack of it) is the problem.
I suggest to look for 4EXT recovery. It's in the desire forums just do a search. Download the apk and sideload it to your device on a running rom like Cyanogenmod it will replace your current recovery. Use 4ext recovery to partition your sd card. Make sure you backup your sd card to your computer before doing anything.

I just installed 4EXT recover and will post results back.
Just a brief question having just browsed the Alpha webpage http://alpharev.nl/
and have realised a partition table, now i am wondering if that has any influence on the installation of Roms
i Currently have a 1gb Mem partitioned to 126? if this is having effect on it not booting?
just to be sure what partition size would you recommend for sense roms?
thanks

Alpharev is for hboots - Stock, Data++, Cm7r2, Oxgenr2, etc
SD ext - for your sd card. safe bet is to have 1gb-2gb of ext partition size.
If you just have 126mb for your ext partition then obviously you don't have the minimum requirement for Sense roms to run.

Ill try attempting with a larger memory card. But what would you recommend in terms of the last partition created related to exchange memory?

then choose ext4

Can't install any Custom ROM with htc sense

Hi all
ok, I don't know what's wrong with my HTC Desire
I can install custom ROMs , but every ROM which has htc sense does not work ! other ROMs which aren't with htc sense , work perfectly
I mean , the installations went ok , but when I turn on my phone it freezes at joker picture (I mean that popular s-off picture)
I carefully followed the installation guide , but no success ! in past I could install ROMs with htc sense , it about 2 or 3 months that I can't install custom roms with htc sense
I even changed the Radio and recovery version , but again I achieved no success
I'm limited to those ROMs which are without htc sense
can anyone help me to install a ROM with htc sense ? what's wrong with my phone ?
any answer is appreciated
thank you
Any details? Hboot and sd-ext?

There's nothing corrupted.
If you don't know how hboot works, and never changed it, then you probably have stock hboot.
What did you partition your sd-card with?

I made ext4 partition with a sofware which is called minitool partition.

then this is your exact problem, do not use minitool
this is why your sense roms havent been booting, minitool doesn't make the paritition properly (happened to me as well). other roms can work without a partition which is why they booted, then you need to flash a script to make apps use the partition.
only use gparted or 4ext recovery to make your ext4 partition, as they make them properly aligned.
backup your sd card first, then repartition, and copy everything back. i recommend gparted, step 5 here.

I had this problem since Desire was new, so i think it's not a problem.
It would be nice, you put all the information about your hardware and bootloader, instead of giving a little of the next post.
----- P.S. ----------
So you could have a faulty NAND from the beginning. Then, in 2010, you should submit your Desire for warranty repair.

Installation is not the same as flashing.
Flash ROM, turn off the phone, remove the battery and SD card, insert the battery, start the phone.
If KK starts for the first time, it is only when the installation is completed successfully rom.
Did u update ur recovery yet? KK roms wont flash until u do. Update ur recovery to latest 4ext then repartition ur sdcard with 4ext or gparted only. U could also have a bad partition which will cause problems.
