Hello, I have successfully rooted my HTC Desire running android 2.2 with HBOOT V 0.93.0001 using the Unrevoked method. I Installed ROM Manager and installed ClockWorkMod V 2.5.0.7. I also made a backup.
The purpose was to install a custom ROM, in order to get rid of the Orange bloatware that is on the phone, as well as trying something new.
However whenever I try to instal any ROMS I get an error (Status 7 - installation aborted.)
I then updated the Radio to radio 5.10.05.30 and tried again, same error.
I've tried Cyanogenmod 7, as well as the Oxygen ROM and both aren't working.
I have spent most of today trying to get it to work, and googled alot however I just can't fix this error
Thanks.
you have to do a full wipe data and cache then go to advanced and erase dalvik cache. After all the above you can now install new rom. And if your trying to install new gingerbread you must s off your phone and then update the recovery to the latest one. which i believe is 3.2.0.2 i dunno something like that
When I do a factory reset it just says E: Can't find MISC
No app2sd partition found.
E:cant mount cache:recovery/log
etc etc
says the same thing with wiping the cache, although it does say "cache wipe complete"
when I select wipe Dalvik cache the screen just flickers and appears to do nothing...
What do you mean about updating the recovery, you mean the HBOOT?
Why can nobody answer this? I've literally been reading stuff ALL DAY just to fix this error, yet still can't solve the problem.
Didn't think installing a ROM could be so hard....
I get it you need to back everything up onto your pc from your sd card then go to market on your phone download rom manager and partition your sd with 512mb ext and 0mb swap. and then install any rom u like
Thanks for your help but that didn't work. Not sure what to do.
Which hardwarerevision does your desire have (boot into hboot and read the first line, number behind the word pvt)?
"bravo pvt4 shop s-on"
Just did a hard factory reset, installed ROM Manager and tried again, still didn't work
Also just tried to get my backup restored in the meantime (so I have contacts) oh no, "This does not seem to be a valid backup. The MD5 file is missing"
Can anything else possibly go wrong?
So your hardwarerevision is pvt4. You cannot use clockworkmod recovery and still less rom manager with this one. Download amonra recovery, integrate it in unrevoked (file>custom recovery>choose downloaded amonra recovery) and run unrevoked (like last time) again.
No warranty for any damage.
And a real good advice: Never use rom manager, it's a horrible software which mostly causes heavy and horrible problems!!! Run all operations directly in recovery instead.
Trying that now

Are there known issues with revision pvt 4 and ROM manager/ClockWorkMod?
Did just what you said and it's working perfect, I performed a Nandroid backup so I can always go back to the stock ROM, I also unchecked unrevoked forever so the warrenty should be okay IF I go back?
Thanks so much!!!!

Yes, there are known issues, especially the one you had, which is imho the most important and worst one, because you cannot flash anything.
This disclaimer was referred to me. But yeah, warranty of your provider should be okay if going back to stock.
No problem, happy I could help. Congratulations to you.
Swyped from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Hi there. This might be a bit late but I think I finally find out hot to solve it. It is all because you haven't S-Off your mobile.
so m not goin to get a solution over this,.,.
I've searched this whole forum (and learned a lot) but I'm still stuck!
I upgraded from Leedroid (Froyo) to InsertCoin (Gingerbread) but the upgrade failed and now all I get is the white HTC screen.
I have:
BRAVO PVT4 S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
Clockworkmod v2.5.07 (installed when I rooted with unrevoked earlier this year).
I can access HBOOT, fastboot, clockworkmod, but not the main system.
I tried restoring from Nandroid. Had MD5 errors, but once I fixed those it still doesn't work.
I've tried RUU to no avail (Got error 170).
Tried flashing Leedroid via Clockworkmod, says it's successful but it makes no difference.
So, no Nandroid, no RUU, no ability to flash new roms. What else should I try?
Your suggestions are GREATLY appreciated
go to mounts & storage, format boot, system, userdata, cache.
go to flash zip from sdcard, and choose your ROM. Should work.
Aye, it just worked then - with an older version of Leedroid.
Do newer ROMs require newer versions of Clockworkmod? Or S-off? Because I have an old clockworkmod and S-on. Those are the only things I can think of that might have broken my Gingerbread installation (and caused the Nandroid restore to fail).
S-OFF and try flashing RaDesire, it's probably the best recovery for the Desire.
Also being S-OFF makes the phone a lot easier to "fix".. e.g. if your recovery mysteriously died and so did your system then you'd have to use a RUU to return to stock, then re-root or S-OFF again.. however with this you could just flash a new recovery. Simples.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839621
they don't require a newer recovery.. it probably didn't boot because you didn't do a full wipe that's all.
My only hesitation with S-Off is that after screwing up this ROM upgrade I was thankful of that 'safety net'. But I agree that it would make things easier to fix. As long as I can get into the bootloader
Currently attempting to install AmonRa...

if you need help on how to do it just ask. (you need to be S-OFF first by the way..)
Oh, I didn't see that post until I already started the process via Unrevoked. It seemed to work though. I have AmonRa Desire v2.
It's late here now though, so I'll try installing InsertCoin in the morning. Thanks for all your advice, greatly appreciated

This has to be done from to time to time for a few zips. Nothing to worry about.
Alright, I've been playing around with this for a week with no luck, so Im hoping someone here can shed some light on the problem.
I want to flash my HTC Desire with a custom ROM, but Im not going to attempt that without a working recovery first. Im using the newest version of clockwork recovery (5.0.2). Every recovery I've tried to make on this phone always gives me a md5 mismatch error.
I've only gotten around the problem one way, and thats to create a recovery in clockwork, and restore the backup right away after it's made. If I do that I dont get an md5 mismatch. But anytime the phone is rebooted, any recovery I make does get the error. Ive tried multiple versions of clockwork with no success.
Things I havent tried:
Different SD card
Different recovery
Anybody have any advice?
Please post the details of your Hboot and which rom you are currently running.
SwiftKeyed from CyanogenMod with Transparent XDA App
Would definitely recommend either trying a different SD card, or downloading h2testw.exe to test the SD for errors. This is step 1. Rule out the SD card.
Out of interest, step 2 is using a different recovery. CWM 2.5.0.7 or Amon-RA 2.0.1 depending on what your erase size is:
Download terminal emulator, open it and type:
Code:
cat /proc/mtd
and press enter (note the space between cat and /proc)
Alright, as far as rom and hboot, Im running stock. The phone is S-OFFed.
rootSU: I ran that h2testw on the sd card. Formatted the card and ran the test, came back with no errors. Still having the same problem though. Right now Im using clockwork 2.5.0.9 (oldest one on rom manager). Im thinking of trying a different recovery next. I tried the code you posted and it says my erasesize for everything is 0002000

Go on my guide, I have several links for many different recoveries. Try Ra-Desire it's probably the best.

I swear thats exactly what it says. Could that have something to do with the problem, or cause problems in general?

err just out of curiosity is your phone GSM or CDMA (Have you got a simcard).. maybe it goes to that on CDMA phones if you S-OFF

ahh okay, don't know about CDMA phones - just don't flash anything from the alpharev site or any radios
I'd just suggest trying Amon Ra's recovery and see if that works for you.
Alright, so after awhile of fiddling around I found a way to flash Amon Ra's recovery. I just used unrevoked and set it to custom recovery. However, it didnt work. Booting into recovery after that would just hang at the HTC screen.
I ran unrevoked again to get clockwork back and it went fine, but after it boots into recovery I get this:
Verifying system type...
E:unsupported radio version
E:Update failed. Check /sdcard/soff.log
E:Error in /data/local/unrevoked-forever.zip
(Status 42)
Installation aborted
I got the same thing the first time I rooted it, but i have superuser so I figured it was fine.
Is this a possible cause for concern?

Why didn't you just follow my guide on flashing a custom recovery?
Hello xda,
I'm having a current issue with my HTC Desire phone.
I wanted to load a custom rom on my desire, specifically the Runnymede 5.2 mod, but i encountered some problems, mainly due to my own stupidity.
I rooted the phone with unrevoked, and then installed rom manager to load a custom rom on my phone. After this, when i start my phone, it only shows the intro from htc and beats audio, then it just reboots and does it all over. Seems this guide i followed (not from here, should have used the one here), said nothing about s-on or s-off, neither about partisions.
I am able to get into recovery mode from clockword mod.
Info about my phone:
Boot menu info:
BRAVO PVT3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNW0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27
Kinda wondering if i'm able to find a standard rom somewhere, and then install it with clockword mod, or is that impossible because the security is on? If that's not possible, what else should I do? I read the Q/A post, but didn't encounter my specific problem...
If you need more info i'll post asap,
Thanks in advance,
Mauro
I had the same problem. Ran unrevoked, took a nandroid, went to reboot and got stuck in a boot loop. Had to run the Ruu for 2.2 to fix it.

Did you wipe, meet all the requirements in the Rom thread and flash the right version for your hboot?
What guide?

you do not have an ext3 oder ext4 on your sd card?
do you have a nandroid backup? restore it!
your bootloop is most likely caused by the wrong hboot...as you are still s-on, you got the stock hboot...you need cm7r2 hboot to run runnymede 5.2

Now i'll follow the tutorial from this website, and this time not forget the to s-off and make a partition, thanks anyways!

Hello guys !
First of all i want to say that I've tried EVERYTHING around to resolve the issue, but it seems that nothing is working. So long story short :
My friend bought used HTC Desire since i own DHD and he liked it alot but didnt have the money to buy DHD ,so the day he got it he tried to root it , He said that it was sucessfully and he instaleld some custom rom and went to bed, when he woke up in the morning his Desire Display was flashing with the boot animation(the ROM one) over and over again. He treid to install other ROM and the effect was the same, stuck at animation repeating over and over again. So He called me,i got to his house and tried to solve the issue but i didnt have luck there ,so i got the phone with me at my home. I started digging where the problem was...i was sure it was the rom ,tried to install 5-6 oter roms - no luck . Tried to flash with RUU- no luck ,kept getting " The main version is older" error . So i kept digging and tried to install the RUU throught H-boot by making PB99IMG.zip file, got the same error.Tried to use the update.zip solution - still no luck.Tried to change the recovery from clockwork to any other recovery ,but didnt have luck since i cant access the android and i am getting errors if i try to archive the file to update.zip.
So i need some help if its possible, sorry for my english and if the info that i provided is not that good ask me whatever u like.
also in The H-boot menu it says :
BRAVO PVt4 Ship S-ON
H-Boot-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL - SYNT0101
RADIO-5.11.05.14
from what i got by reading is that i cant s-off cuz of the bravo pvt4 ..

Full wipe + wipe from the advanced menu !
Lol, read thru the OP and same thing going over and over in my head "Did you wipe? Did you wipe? Did you wipe?"
When you start out with "I've tried EVERYTHING", make sure you actually did try everything, because it's pretty obvious you didn't.
Did it also display flash bootanimation over and over again after Ruu?

You have to wipe BEFORE flashing, not after.
Some Roms store important parts on /data, which will be erased during the wipe.

This is true lol. If you install then wipe you prob won't be able to get further than the boot screen.

Take it your mate didn't take a nandroid back-up before trying to flash, so he could restore it in case any issues occurred? Have you done full wipe then tried flash ROM from recovery then? Does the ROM need an ext partition - will boot loop if one doesn't exist.
Depending on the HBOOT version, using alpharev or revolutionary will S-OFF PVT4s - but this isn't the solution to your current problem unless you're trying roms that need non-stock hboots, in which case try something that doesn't first. S-OFF via AlphaRev also best done with rooted stock ROM, some custom sense ROMs also seem to work (don't know about revolutionary as i took alpharev route) - but get custom ROM running first before thinking about doing anything else.

Just saw your post. Too bad it's too late. Anyways the situation was kinda funny: So the HTC kept booting untill the "rom logo" (You know the logo after the HTC one), tried to install other ROM's (Full wipe before ofcourse) and it didn't work ofcourse, so I kept digging and i saw some threats where people were saying that clockwordrecovery wasn't working with my version h-boot, ah and trying installing RUU didnt work too(also trying to install PB99IMG.zip from sdcard didnt work too) ,was always getting "The main version is older" error! So we flashed AlphaRev, and finally the phone was S-Offed, after this i got my DHD's sd card since it was a gold card and i put it into the Desire , i had a PB99IMG.zip file from the previous day on it! So i started the bootloader, it detected the PB99IMG.zip file and I didn't get the "Main Verison is older" error, it asked if the file should be updated and i pressed "yes" and the phone gone off...guess what it was compleatly bricked, only vibrating and the screen didn't work....we were like OMG WTF ...so we installed SDK tools and started looking for adb commands/guides ...after 4 hours we were on about to quit and suicide ourselves cuz we didnt get anything and it was getting late...i was like " duh, lets blind try the PB99IMG.zip method again and rest till tomorrow" ,i downloaded the newest PB99IMG.zip from shipped-roms.com ,got it on my sd card and got the sd card back in the desire . Pressed Power + vol down, waited 2 mins and pressed vol up again, waited like 10 more mins, nothing happaned...we got all emo and mad ,2 more friends of us came to my mate's flat ( they are not into phones or anything ,complete noobs),one of them got the phone took of the baterry and the sdcard ,put the baterry back, pressed Power ON button and the phone ****ing started ....we all were like WOOOOOOOOT OMG OMG ,it was like magic xD ...so its fixed now and it has the stock rom and its unrooted...
