I got a Galaxy Nexus shipped to me here in the US from the UK. I'm on AT&T. It came SIM-unlocked, but I set about rooting and unlocking the bootloader. Didn't encounter any problems. However, after watching a video, I wanted to try Android Beam. I went into the settings to make sure it was on, but there is no setting. Anyone know why?
I'm on Android 4.0.1, build ITL41F
Are you in the right place? settings/more (in the wireless and network section)
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
It is literally right above the Android Beam setting (Settings -> Wireless -> More)
I have a GSM version, apart from root and CWM, running 100% stock 4.0.1.
Under network/Wifi & data/More I have a NFC menu-option, with a toggle.
I can turn it on or off and have "Android beam" below. Clicking Android beam just gets me a screen telling me "its on" and that it will be used when it can be used.
I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but that's what I have
Yeah, I was going to post a screenshot, but I'm too new to post external links. Always been a lurker, never had to post before. This has stumped me though.

That is weird. I am assuming NFC doesn't work.
You have an NFC battery, right? Try reseating the battery and reboot.

So, as an experiment, I thought it might have something to do with my work email's Exchange policies. I backed up all my apps with Titanium, restored to factory defaults, and set my phone up again. This time, the NFC settings are there. I put my work email back on, activated the policies and (for now) the NFC settings are still there. Very strange. I'd like to know why it happened, but glad it's working again. Sorry for the false alarm!
As an aside, rooting/unlocking bootloader is maintained across doing a factory restore, correct? Or will I have to re-do all that?
Incase anyone was interested

Rooting is not (as /system will be wiped). Unlocked boot loader will not change though.

Weird, as I did the factory reset and I still have the Superuser app, and was able to restore my apps from Titanium. Those both require rooting, right?

Depends on the type of factory reset you did. An 'in ROM' factory reset deletes everything from /data and does not touch /system.
A 'recovery' factory reset could wipe everything. Including system.
nice one, cheers for the info!

Hi all,
I got my Nexus Prime today. I'm quite impressed, but it has a problem that's driving me mad.
When I first turned on my handset and entered my Google username it tried to download all the old apps from my previous Android handsets - I didn't ask it to nor did I want it to! Anyway, this failed part way through and none of the apps actually installed.
Since owning this device a few hours ago I cannot install anything through the Android market at all. I keep getting told that the download failed due to an error, but nothing further.
I've tried rebooting the handset but nothing appears to be able to be downloaded.
I can download from other sources, for example I downloaded the Swype installer and that installed fine, from the Swype website (Swype states it's not compatible with this handset!)
I'm not sure if this is a general bug or if there's something wrong with my individual handset but it would be interesting to see if anyone else has this problem?
Hi I had this problem too, unfortunately clearing cache and data from Market doesn't do anything (at least for me), I had to do a factory reset, worked for me and my friend who also had the same problem.
Damn, after an evening of customising my handset I was hoping not to have to do that.
So it appears we've discovered an issue with this handset.
Yep, that fixed it.
Annoying though..............

The way to avoid that is by skipping the initial guide and then att your account in settings instead. I agree that they should just ask you instead but the above way has worked ever since that feature was intruduced in 2.2.
Sorry for the bump but I'm having the exact same issue.
Just rooted the phone and after all apps were restored I tried downloading apps and keep getting that error.
I already did a factory reset several times and nothing. Just tried skipping the setup and adding my google accounts later but I'm still getting the same error :X
Anyone has any idea how to fix this problem? Do I have to return my phone?
It's been driving me crazy..

I seem to have managed to fix this now. I popped my sim into my old android phone, I noticed that the apn settings being used on old phone are different to those GN has setup by default for my network provider. I just copied those through to the new phone and market works again . Hope this helps someone.
Having the same issue also. I'm on Telus in Canada and the APN settings are the same on my old phone. I have done a factory reset and am still having this issue. Please help!
Are you guys rooted? If you are it could be the ROM your using?

You are right. It's the weirdest problem I've seen but somehow it just fixed itself.. Apps install fine now (too bad I didn't know that before doing a million factory resets and deleting my settings)
Figured it out. I had to clear the proxy address in my apn settings
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
seems my Service Provider's settings where blocking downloads esp the Proxy... hmmmm
I've had this problem since yesterday, Market wont download over wifi or data network, messages 'Error while processing payment' or '... could not be downloaded due to error'
I'm running a stock GSM nexus and have tried clearing the market data and rebooting but no luck, I'd rather not have to do a factory reset if I can avoid it.
Any ideas anyone?
hi there,
I just bought a brand new Galaxy Nexus and it was working fine - over the last couple of weeks - up to the point when I loaned it out to my brother, now he won't admit to any wrong doings but my precious phone is not functioning properly. My data usage menu in the settings won't open, the settings 'app' - if you can call it that - crashes, none of my social networking apps load and to top it all off; the internet on my phone only works on the Chrome app, it won't work on Opera or the standard browser - just on Chrome.
I've tried to search for if anybody has ever had this issue but couldn't find anything so I joined XDA. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you don't know what he did, I suggest factory reset.
already tried that but it didn't work...
So did he load a custom ROM or root and change system files then? Theres nothing normal he could change w/o rooting that wouldn't be wiped out by doing a factory reset.
don't know... he won't admit to anything... sigh younger brothers... sometimes you just want to slap the **** out of them.
is there a fix for this or am I doomed?. sorry but I am not a very tech-savvy person.

Okay well when you start the device (from an off state), at the black splash screen where it says "Google", is there an unlocked padlock at the bottom of the screen? This will indicate that he's unlocked the bootloader and probably messed with something.
Also, what's your "about phone" screen look like?
If he has messed with anything in the system, chances are I'm going to end up recommending you flash the stock images and start over.
UPDATE: got the data usage menu to open but its completely non-responsive once it opens which does take quite some time. found out that my data services are on and yet Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/etc... won't load.
did the whole 'volume+power button' reset and its still not working. Should I just take it back to the dealer?

nopes, it just says Google on the start-up screen.
and my about phone menu looks something like this;
Model Number
Galaxy Nexus
Android version

Baseband version

Kernel version
3.0.8-gaaa2611

I've never not been able to check my data usage no matter my network state. OP's Settings screen is actually crashing when he tries to go to it, among other issues. He's having more problems than just not being able to see Data Usage.

Does a hard reset also erase internal memory. Like photos and video stored on the internal memory?
It won't delete personal files like pictures and videos, make sure to back up your contacts though. All your apps and data on the apps will be deleted (however Google backs up some data on apps and they will be reinstalled when you set up your gmail account again.)

hard reset should do the trick. like other users have already stated, you will not lose pictures, videos, etc but you will lose apps and stuff like that.

Samsung Dive is not an app, its a website. You only need to create a Samsung account and enable it in the account settings.
Im stock (Bell) and it works flawless.

Hi all,
started this thread for people like me that don't post much, that can't ask questions in the Dev section. Got to get my post counts up, lol! I've been a member on here from when the Samsung Moment came out, so I'm no newb to flashing rom's, etc. ' Just saying'. Been trying to flash TBOMB 5.0 from last night and can't get my phone to boot up for the life of me. It starts, hangs, then it crashes before it's completed. Yes, I did everything I needed to do. LIH firmware, Wipe caches, factory reset, re-downloaded the file (2x) even flashed to complete stock and started over(2x). Still no go. Many are having good luck with this rom, what am I doing wrong here? Thanks in advance, for any info that could get me on the right track....
Anyone else needing help with this rom, you're more than welcome to use this thread for questions. :good:
That's weird. Did you reset your counter to 0 (zero) before flashing? I'm not sure if it makes a difference but you can try. I flashed over the leaked version of JB, only wiped caché and data caché. Didn't do any Factory Wipe/Reset because it was not in the instructions. You only need to Reset if you had any problems/issues with the rom. Everything works fine so far. Try those steps and see what happens. But do a nandroid before flashing.
Not to be rude, but are you waiting long enough? I remember reading in that thread after 5 was released that the boot animation was just straight black screen. That after a few minutes of nothing, it boots. Also, 5.1 was released this afternoon. Try that out.

I have been having trouble with trying to switch my lock screen wall paper. Did a dirty flash
of 5.1 over JB 5.0. But this is only on the lock screen. My home screen will change with no problems. Also for some reason I can't open the gallery app. This isn't to big of a deal as I use Quickpic but idk if they are related problems. When I try to use QP to set the wall paper it just asks me to crop the pic and that's it. I am sure I am overlooking something and would appreciate any help. Thanks

Thanks for your response. Yes, I did a counter reset when I went back to stock LI3.
DLed the 5.1 version of the rom after I posted this, flashed my phone, and now I'm good to go.
My phone didn't like something in the 5.0 version of this rom, might have been the kernel, don't think I had 2 bad downloads of this rom(5.0)......
Now I have hands on, the niceness I've been reading about. Thanks to all of you hard working Dev's, that keep our phones going by bringing us all these goodies. :good:

Been thinking the same thing while I was trying at first, but it sure wasn't my wait time. Fell asleep waiting on it around 4:30am , woke up 4 hrs later, no go, lol! Had to leave the house for a while, so I flashed back to stock LI3, so I could have my phone working... 5.1 worked, like I posted before seeing your response. Thanks for responding.
Battery Icon - Signal Icon - Date
I just flashed 5.1 over 4.3 today. Install went great, phone is dramatically faster did great on benchmark.
The issue I am having is that the signal icon, battery icon, ringer icon, time Do not show up right away on reboot. then all of a sudden it will just show up.
This actually happened on 4.3 also. If anyone has any ideas that would be great, and not to wipe and re-flash. I understand that ultimately that may be required but I am not looking at doing that right now.
Thanks.

Is anyone having issues with setting up the s voice wakeup commands? It's like the microphone is deaf. S voice works with everything else. Just not that. I'm gonna flash 5.1 as soon as it downloads. But just in case it still doesn't works, I'm asking this question.
General Jellybomb install
This might help a couple of you. I install JellyBomb 5.1 yesterday (first rom flash, yay!!) and loving it.
I used Clockwork Recovery. I installed the LIH modem (?) first as they said. Factory reset, wipe, cache and wipe richvishervi (?). Install of the rom itself couldn't have taken more than 20 mins, but I did get a boot animation (I believe it's the boot animation form the international version G3).
The only issue I had was that my google calender wouldn't sync. To get round this I deselected calender from the google account and added a account using Microsoft Exchange with my google details. That was a work around that has worked for me.
I think I also have a problem with wifi tethering but I haven't looked into it properly.
One question I will ask is; I'd like to have the lock screen that has the circular unlock feature but I'm not sure how to get it. Any help would be appreciated.
If anyone is on the fence about installing this rom, I'm VERY happy with it. It's very customizable, it fast and it has been very easy on the battery so far. Well done Josh Beach.

As the post title says, stock TW launcher has just started "forgetting" that it's the default instead of "easy mode". It just randomly pops up the dialog box whenever I hit the home button and it wants me to choose what launcher and either just once or always. Of course I choose always, but then it comes back on its own randomly as if it forgot my selection.
Any ideas?

What exactly would calling T-Mobile accomplish? I can see doing a factory reset, but that would be the last option I would even recommend...
One idea: if you are rooted, try freezing all but the launcher you wish to use through Titanium Backup.

To maybe get a replacement phone. but that is only if the factory reset doesnt work. and the factory reset, he can always back up his apps and data and important info before doing it. so, its not that bad.

I'd think that trying to get a replacement for that problem would be akin to buying a new car because because you ran out of windshield washer fluid... Again, I do understand the factory reset thing, but not as a first resort...
If the problem doesn't go away, I would say to backup your game data and personal files, and to factory reset the device.
