[Q] *228 equivalent? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

(VZW version.) Thinking an activation and roaming update might help with my shoddy signal strength. Any clues?

I was under the impression that Verizon LTE SIM cards update automatically and that a *228 or *22899 runs the risk of actually disabling it.
Maybe wait for new modems? :/

This depends entirely on T-Mobile's service in your area, not the SIM card.

What he said.
It's pretty much the same as your existing T-Mobile phone, if not.. better.
what he said, but.....
it also depends on which radio you have installed. Samsung has a handful of different5 radios depending o where the phone was originally marketed for. All are basic GSM 5-band capable but each one has minor tweaks for specific networks. There are several threads on here debating which radio works best. Do a search if you are interested. For mine, the XXKK6 radio it arrived with (ordered from the UK) gets comparable reception to any other phone I have used on T-Mobile. You can see the radio version under settings .. about phone .. baseband version. Changing radios is easily done if rooted and you have basic mod skills.
My service wasn't the best at first but after I flashed UGKL1 radio my data speeds on HSPA+ went from 2mbs down up to 10mbs consistently.

Any way to make the connection "4g only"??

I know I can make it so I only get Edge.. can I make it only be on 4g?? It seems like whenever it starts looking for it the battery dies quicker

Bump !

Not to my knowledge. Your phone will stay on 4g only when it has the signal for it. For example, you can't "lock" onto 4g in a place that has notoriously poor signal because the signal simply isn't there.
Somebody correct me if I'm mistaken

That's weird because with my T-Mobile galaxy S2 I did have that option !

You can change it to wcdma only. It won't drop down to edge, but if you aren't in a UTMS/HSDPA area you will have no signal.
To change it go to the dailer and pres *#*#4636#*#* and then phone information. Then scroll down to the drop box where it says wcdma preferred and choose wcdma only.

Remove cricket throttle?

So I have a Verizon galaxy nexus and I'm flashed to cricket. I've searched for this but none on the galaxy nexus...can someone help me remove their throttle? Thanks
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
The throttle is most likely carrier sided, You can't do anything about it yourself if it's on the carrier's side.
There is other threads of people doing it by flashing a zip but that was for the zio...he said he was at around 3 gigs over what he was suposed to get. Something in the build.prop
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
If it's anywhere, it's in build.prop. I think, well in Verizon's case, there's a folder called "throttle" or something to that effect. The method should not vary by device, possibly android version though.

Master reset and ask for a new sim card.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
Yeah I have done a few. I would get about 9mb down and 1mb up. The phone status would read hspap:15.

I'm sorry master reset is that the same as a factory reset?

Switch to airplane mode and then back to radios on. This will cycle your radios and LTE should come up. This is an issue that AT&T is working on for some devices. If that fails, call customer service.

I was having the same problem, but not just no lte. In weak signal areas my phone would have no signal at all, not even for emergency calls, when my girlfriend's phone would have 3 bars of 4g. We even tried replacing my sim card. Luckily, I was within the buyers remorse period, and the at&t store replaced my phone. I do believe that this is some sort of hardware defect. Good thing you are still under warranty. Just call Samsung or at&t and they will replace your device.
