I did the Calkulin wipe, then flashed the EL13 Modem, then flashed the Blazer ROM 2.0. It boots up (you see the "S") but then it shuts off, it wont go any further. HELP! What did I do wrong? Ive done other ROMs before with no issue.
Did you make a backup?
Get to recovery (pull battery, then hold vol up and power), if no backup reflash the rom. If that ****s on you as well, then get in to download mode and odin back to stock.
I heard rumors of Calkulin putting a virus in the "all format zip" that won't allow your phone to boot back up unless you're flashing one of his roms.

I do have recovery still on it. I actually got into recovery and flashed Calkulins 2.5 ROM. But the modem is now EL13. So I dont get why Blazer wouldn't boot.

Who knows. Bad flash maybe?.... You can always start fresh, that usually works. Sometimes mix matching causes problems.

What do you mean by "start fresh"? Like factory resetting and rooting through odin all over again...?
virus??... naw if you read the thread it says to flash it on top of earlier versions only that's why he has it beta. I use calkulins format all to flash all roms not just his it always works. that did happen to me though didn't read downloaded the file saw it was EL13 flash it then I was like Wtf good thing I keep other roms as back up flash a different one and tada it worked. (sorry for gramar in a hurry lol)

That's what I personally prefer to do when issues like that pop up. If you flashed the all format and still doesn't work, not much else you can really do, unless just for the hell of it try a different kernel, then try the rom again? .... That's the best advice I have to give...

I believe Blazer 2.0 is only for the EK02. He has released a 2.5 Beta for EL13, but it isn't themed like 2.0 because he is going in a different direction with more themes.
Try flashing the 2.5 Beta and see if that works.

Hey guys, check it out. I just figured out how to get into clockwork recovery, and assuming and going about flashing a rom just like I would on my evo, I go ahead and download a rom for the epic, flash it, and it works fine. So it loads up like normal after a flash n reboot, and it kept saying no service... so I was like... uh... weird.. so I booted back into clockwork and tried nand back to the backup I did before flashing anything, of course... but I started getting an error saying it couldn't open recovery.log and now it freezes restoring at saying "lost+found" .... so I pull the batter, and now it just automatically revolts to clockwork all the time, and trying to boot the system normally... I'm not using CWM 3+.. rather the older 2.xx ... any ideas?
It's hard to understand your writing. I think the best thing you can do is use Odin to flash back to stock and start over. You didn't say what version of android you were on but if it's dk28 did you flash the modem?
What rom did you flash? I take it you were on stock di18 before?
Flashing a rom based on one of the leaked froyo builds without also flashing a modem could cause the initial problem.
And nandroid doesn't backup or restore the kernel, so using that to restore still leaves you with the kernel of the rom you flashed before, which can cause problems across build versions.
You're best bet is to odin back to di18 and start again.

Thanks a bunch, I know I re-read my post and was like.. man I wasnt descriptive at all... LOL, but I checked out this Odin, and TBH i have NO idea what all this stuff is for the Epic, only doing it to fix the booboo I did on my g/f's phone I have the Evo so its totally different stuff almost... Anyways im back to stock, now I need to read up before screwing around again .
Before I get ravaged, I have wandered from thread to thread to thread trying to find answers and unfortunately, everyone's got a different situation, so I'll try and sum it up here.
I have an Epic 4G that I threw the Samsung/Sprint Froyo ROM on as soon as it as available, after which I rooted it, installed CWM 2.5 and called it a day. I've been wanting to upgrade to Gingerbread, but the official EI22 ROM is obviously giving me issues because of root, so I decide, hey, I can try adding on some other ROMs and finally get into this thing.
Now somewhere amongst all this, I have CWM 5.0 installed and my phone is running both older and newer versions and only 5.0 is letting me restore in case I screw up.
So I grab the Gingerbread restore and after wiping my data, restore it. Gets stuck on Samsung logo. Try this a few times, give up, reload my original Froyo image (only after coaxing CWM to load up 5.0 instead of 2.5). Try again tonight with ACS ICS ROM and 2.5, still stuck at Samsung logo. Wipe and try again, same thing.
So my question is: A) would it be better to go back to Odin and try again despite a stable Froyo image, B) how can I eliminate one of these CWMs, C) has anyone else had these issues?
seems like you did a whole bunch of things... probably best to start clean.. odin to stock froyo. then you probably want to root it from there. after that, you can flash the latest cwm, then latest gingerbread rom
when you installed cwm5, did u flash through rom manager or through recovery?
I honestly just downloaded CWM from Marketplace and I found out how I was able to access it: it's a zip in my Clockwork folder. Once I "install" that, it loads into 5.0 and that's how I've been able to work, but it never updates CWM, I have to keep having to boot into it from the zip.
well u have cwm2,5 u said... try booting into cw, (three fingers) and flash the zip. but maybe you can try downloading cwm from the official cwm thread and flash that zip just to be sure
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357655
Yeah, every time I try to flash that ZIP, it just opens up 5.0 instead. I'll have to try doing it from scratch.
isnt that what u want??? 5.x.x.x??

Yeah, definitely.
Okay, Odin'ed back to stock Froyo and rooted, loaded on ACS Recovery. This whole process has killed my battery, so I'm going to recharge before trying to load up a new ROM. It seems like it should be easy from here on out...
You should just start over with a fresh install.
Here are the steps. I made this list before CWM 5 was released, but you can get the CWM 5 ODIN .tar file from that thread which was linked a few posts up.

Yeah I ODINed back with ACS Recovery and now I'm running ACS ICS, which is sooooooo awesome. I think I was afraid about having to ODIN back to stock and losing everything. Now I should still have the Froyo image on there, can't I just run between this new one and that?
Thanks, all!
What do you mean by you have acs ics and still have the froyo image?? are you dual booting

So I got my new Phone In the mail today because my other Epic 4g touch broke.
First thing I do is Load The latest ACS One Click Root/Restore For EL29 and all goes well. Now Im wanting to Load a Custom Rom, so Now i need a Recovery, So I use the E4G Autoloader to Load CWM and all goes well.
Boot into CWM, flash the ROM...reboot and it gets stuck at the Samsung Galaxy S screen.
I have tried restoring to EL29, EL26, EK02 and then insalling CWM, and all goes well up untill the point of rebooting from ANY ROM flash.... it just stays at the Samsung Galaxy S screen. Tried with CWM and Various other CWM5 variants.
Has any one seen this before? My last 4g touch did nothing like this.
Chris
So here I sit with a Stock Rooted Kernal/Rom (EL29) afraid to load CWM and flash any Rom because it always gets stuck at the Samsung Galaxy S Screen.
Really wanting a custom rom....
have you tried to use calkulins format all file before flashing the rom? if not try this link it should download it for you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=771828&d=1320435068
Yes, I have it loaded on my SD card and use it every time. Iv tried so many combinations.. This is the first time I have had any problem with anything... Hero, Epic, Photon, 1st Epic Touch
This could be a re-man Phone because I got it via Insurance when my last one broke....think they could have done something to it?...even so I can ODIN/Restore to any EK02, EL26/29 and everything is fine.
I'd say I would be good with it cause they come rooted when using the ACS One Click, but I want a custom rom.
Chris
Sorry man then I don't know how to help you. That's the best I have for you. Best of luck ;-)

Don't use the one click root method just use Odin to root the phone. Make sure your downloads are good by checking your md5. Another question for you how long are you waiting when it that screen pops up because the first boot takes a while as you may already know. Forgot to ask did you wipe your SD card when you got your new phone you could try that as well.
Gonna try to ODIN a 100% Stock rom, then go from there.
Looks like I found a EG30 Stock ROM, think that would be a good start?

Boosted Into Recovery, flashed Calkulin E4GT Format All, Then Flashed Calkulin E4GT v2.8... Rebooted
Now stuck at the Samsung Galaxy S Screen.
Checked MD5 for the rom.
On a side note, The flash went pretty fast in recovery and the precentage bar did not work, Dont remember how long a ROM normally takes in to flash in Recovery but Its almost 300mb and it went pretty fast.

I just decided last night to switch from Calkulin to Blazer so I could try it out.
The results were disastrous.
I took my phone, which was running on Rogue Desperado Kernel, EL29 Modem, Calk 2.8.1, and backed up everything. Then I booted into ROGUE recovery, and flashed CALKS FORMAT ALL. This was a success.
Then I flashed BLAZER ROM 3.7. This was a success, according to my little black and green screen.
**HOWEVER, upon reboot I was stuck at SAMSUNG GALAXY S II screen. I waited...and waited...and waited. It never moved past this screen.
Then I tried booting into recovery - no dice. I had to download the Stock EL29 Kernel/Modem/ROM ODIN Full Restore and flash everything back to square one.
Once this was completed, I rooted using the Auto Rooter and took my phone to EL29 with CWM. Then I flashed my Kernel over to the stock EL29 with Rogue Kernel (this is easier to use than stock CWM IMO).
FINALLY, I booted into recovery, flashed CALK FORMAT ALL, then flashed BLAZER ROM 3.7. Now I'm back to the ** from earlier in this post - SAMSUNG GALAXY SII is on the screen, and I can't get past it or boot into recovery.
I'm going to run through the steps again to bring my phone back to stock, but I'd really like to try this ROM out. Does anyone have any ideas?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
With no background information, it sounds like it may have been a bad download. Have you tried downloading another copy of Blazer rom?
The process you described was correct, and sometimes bad downloads lead to infinite splash screens.

OK it looks like you correct. I re-installed Calk 2.8.1 with no issues and did a restore through Titanium. I then got a message saying "download incomplete" of BLAZER ROM. It's odd, because the download went through fine yesterday and the notification cleared before I booted into Recovery to flash everything.
Now I'm trying to re-download the ROM and the link is down with no mirror. Does anyone have a copy saved that they can create a mirror with?

The EXACT same thing happened to me and I did the same as the OP. I followed the instructions, I thought, verbatim. I'm not a newb when it comes to flashing, I've been doing this for years. Stupid me, I flashed a ROM and locked up the phone for a few hours until I got home from work. The only thing that brought it back was Odin to stock and start all over. The only roms that work for me are cal's rooted stocks, his custom roms and strong Steve's Smurf love ROM. Such is life.
was trying to download the new blazer rom and seems the link is broken so will try later.
PhantomHacker is having issues with his host (see quote below), I'm sure he'll have it handled asap. Blazer ROM is awesome, hope you guys enjoy once he gets it back up and running.

Im not sure if you are or not but if you are trying to download the rom from your phone that is the first mistake. I have had allot of bad luck doing it this way. Always download it from the computer and never transfer it through Kies air always use a usb cable. I cannot tell you how much trouble I have run into when trying to download from the phone or transfer roms/themes wireless.
PH's site is back. Download to PC
OK I'm all good. Someone posted a mirror last night for the Blazer Rom (nibrwr notes that PhantomHacker's site is back up today for anyone else trying to download) and I downloaded it on my phone.
rbtrucking - I know you mentioned to always download on PC and transfer, but I've had almost no issues with the downloads direct to the phone. I did all of the Calk install when I first rooted this way, and the Blazer issue was probably my own fault, I must have ended the download before the file finished and then tried to Flash it.
I downloaded the full Blazer Rom on my phone directly yesterday and flashed it in Recovery and it worked fine.
Everything is working perfectly, and I've got it overclocked to 1.35GHZ. Stable as all hell and pulling over 5,000 on Quadrant, whatever the hell that test is good for.
Thanks for the help everyone.
I'm sorry, Im confused. I have been searching and I have read 3 seemingly contradictory facts:
- NEVER flash CM9 with any other recovery other than clockwork mod
- NEVER use odin to flash clockwork mod on an ICS rom
- You can flash a newer version of CM9 over the old one
So i'm using CM9 RC0 and I would like to update to alpha2 without wiping. CWM disappeared when i flashed and I keep reading that its dangerous to use the stock rouge recovery. So I went to go use odin to get CWM back on but there is a warning to never try to load it using an ICS rom?
Where am I going wrong here? I really dont want to wipe and flash to a GB rom just so that I can use odin to get CWM and flash back to cm9.
Thanks, I just wanted to make sure i didn't ruin my phone!

What you want to do is flash the EL26 kernel with CWM through Odin. Once it's flashed and the phone starts to reboot, pull the battery. Put the battery back in, boot into recovery via Vol up+ power and then flash Alpha 2 over RC0, flash GApps and reboot. You should be good to go then.

This is a recent thing that started when the ICS leaks started coming. Before ICS, rooting and flashing this phone was as easy as any. It still is actually, but you have to be more careful, especially with any of the AOSP ROMs. It should be back to normal once the official ICS update is released and we get our hands on the source code.

Worked perfectly! Hopefully you have helped many noobs down the road when they search for this. What threw me off was QBKings video when he kept warning to never flash EL26 on ICS. (Mad respect though, QBKing!). Thanks for clearing that up for me!
On a side note, yeah, things seem complicated. I know there is a good reason why CM9 doesn't include a good recovery but I hope as things develop we will eventually get back to the "Rom Manager" days. Man, our devs spoil us!
