Since I have installed the latest official ROM every now and then my TP2 gets stuck. It keeps on displaying the screen that was on it when it got stuck (sometimes it is black, because I wasn't using the device when it got stuck). The only thing left is to pull out the battery.
What could be the cause? Are more people experiencing this issue?
I have the latest version of the Dutch HTC ROM and no other programms installed.
Same phenomenon on my stock machine (no tweaks, no fancy ROM) that gets stuck every now and then...
Maybe too much files in the '/windows' directory ?
Interestingly enough, I am having the same issue with this. I had a problem with disappearing text messages in the past and HTC urged me to downgrade to the previous ROM version, which resulted in a non-functional GPS unit for me.
I recently discovered there was a patch for the SMS problem, upgraded and applied the patch. I discovered that the phone will grind to a halt when you have a large amount of text messages in your inbox. Removing most of the messages will speed up the phone, but will not really solve the issues with the hang up.
I'll try to have less sms messages and see if that works.
Or go into the sms settings and save them to the sd card.... If you do a hard reset though you might not be able to access them...
It's probably your SD card causing the problems, especially if it's HTC Sense that's causing your phone to get 'stuck'.
On custom ROMs we advise people to delete the Application Data directory on the SD card. Old files from a previous ROM seem to mess up Sense on the new ROM.
If that doesn't work, try removing the SD card completely. If the trouble is the SD card, you could also move the files off the card, reformat the card, and then replace the files.
My TP2 locks up as described in this thread after the ROM flash. About 3weeks ago, I disabled the tabs "Weather", and "Twitter" in HTC Sense and the problem seem to have disappeared. Then yesterday I re-enabled the Twitter tab and the phone locked up last night when it was in standby. No response when pressing power button or anything. Had to soft-reset to bring it back to life.
I have already disabled Twitter. Still sometimes the issue
Perhaps it is still some files on the SD card which are causing problems.
I had been having this problem for weeks as well, I emptied all my old texts and it is working fine now....
After some reboots, I noticed that my apps in the app drawer keep messing up.
Not sure what's the caused, and get fedup of having to rearrange it often.
Any idea?
yer i had that issue for the first 1 and 1/2 weeks of use but i found that after installing a few more apps then it shipped with it stopped after about 9 apps
I think some people have said that having the apps moved to the SD card can make the ordering mess up, since they're loaded later than internal apps
It's really irritating, as it seems to occur randomly
I had this problem too, and the easiest way to fix the problem is just set the order to most used, and not "own order" that way u can get to the app's u use most often on the first screen and they don't move around.
It got so bad with mine moving around that at one point I had about 10 screens, some with no or 1 app on each, setting it to "most used" solved it and I haven't had a problem since.
Hope this helps

just to add, if you use another home launcher besides the stock one, this disarrangement or whatever you call it, happens most of the time. So I prefer to use the stock SE home launcher and sort it by "most recently used" as well.
I've noticed that sometimes opening the app tray/drawer before everything's loaded from the sd card (in case of apps moved to sd) can cause their icons to not show in the 'remembered' location and will appear on the last page instead. Solutions is to just give it a little time to fully load everything after a boot.
Edit: also seems to happen if the sd card is connected to the pc in msc mode, i.e. inaccessible and unmounted from the system.
After the recent update to 4.2.2 OTA (reverted to stock Recovery, but still rooted), and Sense 5.4.23 i have a weird problem. I have set up 5 screens, and on each I have a number of folders, typically containing 4 or more app icons. These remain in place fine, however a number then disappear after a restart - probably c. 50%. Only thing I can think of is that as I had rather less than 1 GB out of 6, I moved some of the larger apps like angry birds to the phone memory, and it seems to be these that disappear, although i havent tested this rigorously. Switched to Nova launcher, and had the same behaviour. Very frustrating as takes a while to get a useful layout. Only a selection of the shortcuts disappear - the apps are still there. Tried a factory reset without wiping the data, which seems to have marginally improved wifi reliability (another problem) but still have the problem.
Anyone got any ideas - not sure where the data is kept for the layout, however restoring a titanium backup of HTC Sense does bring back an old layout, although it loses the half dozen or so widgets i use?

Use search. This is common and frequently asked!
If you move the app to SD, the icons vanish from user-created folders on reboot.
It's a général problems, one issue... waiting a fix for HTC

Thanks to you both, i did search, atlength on google amd xda fwiw without unearthing anything. I guess i was thrown by the fact that my transformer tf300 didnt exhibit this behaviour...
I am also having problems with the icons disappearing from the home screens after restart since the OTA to 4.2.2 this week and mine are not in folders.
I have found that all the icons that disappear from the home screens are apps that I moved to phone storage (internal SD card) in the previous system.
In the 4.2.2 under settings -> apps -> downloaded if I click on an app there is no option to move it like there was in the previous system. So I cannot even move the apps back to make them stay on the home screen after a restart. The only fix is to uninstall them all and then reinstall them as that will move them back to the internal phone memory. But then I will run out of memory.
From reading other forums it looks like HTC may have removed the move option from 4.2.2 Jelly Bean because users were complaining about their widgets not working. Apparently we need to request it is put back in so I just tried calling Vodafone and when I told the tech rep my problem he hung up on me!
Would rooting the phone allow me to get the move working again and keep the icons on the home screens after a restart?

Rooting will allow you to install Titanium Backup which will move any app and allow the uninstallation of bloatware garbage.

I have spoken to HTC and they say the missing move feature is an issue they are investigating. They don't give any idea of what or when something will be done though.
In the meantime I have done a factory reset and put all the apps back on. Now to check if they stay there after a restart.
Yes they do stay there after a restart now they are not moved.
I am having problems with the Wi-fi too since the OTA update to 4.2.2.

I am also having this issue. I created 2 separate games folders, when i restarted my phone, they were all out of the folders. Also some of the app icons on my home screen disappeared. Happens every time i restart. Its really annoying because i am really enjoying the update.

Moved a few apps to the SD card and am having icon issues with the apps on the SD card. Sometimes they show up like they are supposed to, but, more often than not I get a generic grayed out icon of an SD card. Still shows the right name of the app and apps seem to operate fine, just annoying and looks bad. Anyone else experience this? I'm running 100% stock.
Thanks

Yes I have that issue too. At first it just stayed like that indefinitely, but lately all the icons re-appear within a minute or so after booting up my Note. Not sure what happenned to cause the icons to now re-appear after a short wait. Anyone else have this problem, or better yet, an explanation or fix? I'm on CivZ 3.4 rom with his 2.0 kernel.
This is happening to me too every now and then. Random times to random apps that are on the sd card

Anyone have answers yet?
same here.
i found this issue this morning, i was shock all of my shortcut not able to work and the icon is Grey.
but, after a few minutes it back to normal again, but when i tried reboot..it'll happen again and you must wait a few minutes until the icon back (for the function, i found LINE and Line I Love Coffee didn't work first time after ON or Reboot, not trying another program)
what about change the launcher? it'll fix the issue?
I just deleted the icons from the home page and brought it back onto the home screen.

ok not sure if this helps but here goes... I have this issue too, but all the grey icons re-appear as normal within 2 minutes after a reboot. When CivZ releases a new rom version I download and install it. When I boot with the new rom the icons are grey but DO NOT re-appear, ever.
I also have Foldermount installed by the way. After upgrading the rom from recovery and then booting, the first time I open Foldermount I get an error message about a faulty module. When Foldermount offers to fix it for me I click "yes" and reboot. Now the icons are still grey but DO re-appear within 2 minutes after each reboot.
Seen this behaviour consistently over the last few rom updates. For those whose grey icons always stay grey and never re-appear, it might be worth a shot to install Foldermount from the play store and run it. See if you get a message about a faulty module and if so, have the app fix it, then reboot and see if your icons re-appear after a few minutes. I might be way off here but maybe it will help us get closer to a real solution. If you try this please report your findings. Also, remember to make a nandroid backup first, just in case .

I'm having the exact same issue on my Galaxy S4 on the apps I moved to SD. Some appear normal and others are grey. I can still access all of them. Very annoying. On 4.2, the SD card would take a min to load and the apps would appear as normal. On 4.3 not all reappear.

I migrated from a DROID to a Note II just now to a Note 3 - So, I have run all of the Android Releases from Frodo to Jelly Bean and have KitKat on my tablet. My Note II and my Note 3 both have the same Jelly Bean 4.3 and are both waiting for Verizon to upgrade to KitKat 4.4.2
I never had any problems running my Apps on the SD Card on the Note II, Jelly Bean 4.3
The Note 3 changes my Icons to Grayed Out SD Icons. The programs work perfectly on the SD Card. To get my Icons back, I had to move the App back to the device, uninstall it and then reinstall it. (Yes, I did try moving a program back to the SD and get the same grayed out result. Moved back, un-installed, installed.)
This is obviously a common bug that has recently been introduced. My solution? Avoid SD at all cost until Android sorts this out.
Since my Note 3 has 32GB on Device, I was moving Apps to SD out of habit from the old device days. Hopefully there will be a fix for this before I run out of Device Memory.

You don't have to reinstall.
Remove from the screen and put it back if from Apps - that should do it.

Thanks! The work around is annoying, but I only have to do it once for each migrated App.
I can live with that.
Thanks
The problem is from using a slow SD card, and quickly going from lock screen after reboot.
I have a 633x SD card, and only found one app that does not like being moved to SD, and it was a paid game.

I've had a couple that seemed to respond badly to being moved to my SD Card. Put them back and all is well.
This happened on my original Samsung Note. Applications on the SD card would show generic grey icons for a few minutes after a reboot. I found that it also did this when I unmounted the SD card and then mounted it again. I attributed this to perhaps the OS taking a bit of time to read the files on the SD card. I found that the larger the card, the longer the icons stayed grey.
Note 8 app not showing the proper icon when moved to SD card

The problem of Apps not showing proper icons, when moved to SD card can be solved as follows:
I have a Note 8 with a Samsung 256 GB SD Card.
When I move eligible apps to the SD card, the icons show up as greyed out, with the annotation "SD".
Eligible Apps are those that, when using the App: "Move Apps" and selecting "MOVABLE", do NOT move the ones that show the warning that the app listens to the "boot completed" event, in which case it is adviseable to keep it in the phone memory. All other moveable apps can be moved.
To get the proper icon display again proceed as follows:
1. Go to Settings/Device maintenance/Storage
2. Click on the "3 dots" at the upper right of the screen
3. Select: Storage settings
4. Select "SD card", then click on "UNMOUNT"
5. Wait a few minutes until the SD card is unmounted. A message will show it to be finished.
6. When the SD card is unmounted: Select and click on: "Mount SD card" and wait a small time.
7. When the SD card is mounted again, all the apps should show up again in the app dra
wer(s), with their proper icons.
8. Copy missing icons on the Home screen from the corresponding app icons in the app drawer.
9. If it does not work properly, repeat steps: 1 through 8.
Good luck, for me this worked fine every time.....

Hi everyone. A friend has the phone for 2 years. And the phone sotware is getting worse and worse. Sometimes it says "Xperia Home is not responding." and the screen is not responding on touch. Sometimes when someone calls her and she answers, the phone freezes and you have to restart it or wait to unfreeze. She did a factory reset and the phone was ok for like a day or two. She didnt install anything except for viber and massanger. She doesn't have a micro sd card so the storage is 80-90% full and she is getting messages to delete something. Can this cause everything else? The phone is not rooted and never was. She only install updates for android and the sony apps.
Does someone has any suggestions what can it be? What should I do to fix the phone and make it smooth again?
I've always been rooted, so can't say for sure how effective things are without root, but I would start with:
- Get an sdcard and delete a bunch of stuff and move a bunch of other stuff to the sdcard, (pictures, music, etc. Storage space always helps)
- Use the phone's built-in features, if any, (smart cleaner, analyzer, etc. - can't remember for sure what's included in Stock Z1c)
- Install SDMaid from Play Store and run the cleanup options on quick access screen, (stay away from 'cleaner' apps in general, but SDMaid is good)
Thanks for the recommendations man. I will tell her to buy a sd card and move her stuff there. I will try SDMaid. Should I root the phone and remove all of the apps that she dont use(all sony apps)?
Probably not worth rooting just for that. If she's happy with the phone when it's running smoothly, just let it be. Maybe if cleaning up storage doesn’t solve the issue, get more extreme...
