Looked through the stock browser and I don't see any settings allowing the user agent to be adjusted. Might have to make the adjustment thru smali/reversing the apk or in source code and compiling from AOSP.
Otherwise, as suggested above, 3rd party browsers might be more likely to allow this information to be changed.

In the broswer search field type in about:debug, hit enter. Go to settings>debug>UAString and choose Desktop

That's strange. In all the blurb leading up to the release it was said multiple times that there was an option to select Desktop view for sites, albeit without the ability to remember your preference.

There is an option. The OP wanted it to always request the desktop version for all websites instead of having to select it for each one.

about:debug isn't permanent, as said above. Whenever you're redirected to a mobile website hit the settings icon and there will be a request the full website option. Isn't the same as setting the UA string but gets you there.

So anybody find a *permanent* fix for this yet? With all due respect to devs, not really sure why all the time and effort is being put into ROMs, etc, when simple things like permanent UA string mods haven't been sorted out yet...

There's an app in the market based on the ics browser called "ics browser+" that has the option. Its the stock browser with more features

I sorted it two weeks ago.
I make no guarantee it works on:
OEM anything.
Pre 4.0.3 roms.
non Team BAMF roms. (That can be fixed by re-signing)

Saving browser useragent

I can't get the stock browser to save my useragent selection. I'm changing it by entering about:useragent in the browser. I select desktop and it works for the current window, but when I leave and return the useragent is defaulted to android again. Any suggestions?

This has been a question for day one with the device. I tried changing this and know what has to be fixed but i can't do it. We need to have the framework-res.apk file modified to have this fixed. I will do some inquiring and see what i can find.

Thanks for taking the initiative. I really don't know where to start.
I just made a bookmark for the useragent code and select it. Works pretty painlessly until a better technique comes up.
Opera browser does display desktop display.
If take sites you regularly visit and bookmark the Desktop url, you can just go to the bookmark for those sites and most browsers will display the desktop.
System searching those sites then works most efficiently..and it'll desktop them.
or u can follow the guide in this section to remove sprint proxy, that should also fix the issue.

The proxy fix didnt help the user agent for me. My user agent still reverts back to custom.
Does any know whats actually causing this to happen? The user agent change on other browsers such as dolphin does not work for me either.
Devo
There are a few threads in the devo section addressing this issue.... For now there doesn't seem to be a solid workaround. I'm sure there will be ROMs in the coming weeks that fix it. A PITA to be sure...
YMMV

Set permanent user agent in browser?

Is there a way to set the user agent to desktop *permanently* on the stock browser? Or do I have to use maxthon or some other browser? Thx

Actually thats why i created this thread b/c its not persistent. its only active per session. once you close the browser you have to do it again and again....... why can't we just disable "mobile view" permanently? so lame.
he want permanent desktop view.

Your OP didn't specify that you wanted it permanent, all you asked was if it was possible to change it.I haven't had any issues with Dolphin Browser HD freezing up at all & I have Desktop as my UA String & I use Dolphin Browser as my primary browser and use it quite heavily.
Your right about it being lame,I think it should be a option in the default settings.

I guess no one wants to take advantage of this high res screen and see web pages like they are meant to be? Who wants to view web pages in mobile view on a phone like this?

I also would love a permanent solution as its annoying to always have to change to desktop

There is a way. It requires editing the strings xml. I have tried, but apktool will not successfully compile anything I mod

Gotta throw in a bump on this one...really shocked this hasn't been one of the first mods to have been sorted out for this device.
I modded the browser source and compiled it if anyone is interested in it. Persistent ua string and a whole slew of options not normally visible. Require root and 4.0.3.

That's phenomenal...where might I try out this mod?
EDIT: nevermind, found your post in the other thread! Will check it out, cheers! (btw hopefully some more folks will take notice of your work, and ideally it would be great if your mod would get a sticky on this forum, given that it should be one of the very first mods that a GN owner would want!)

[Q] Unknown System App; malicious?

I just noticed this app (bottom icon with Japanese? writing) running as a system app. It has permission for accessing my contacts, user defined dictionary and full internet access. Does anyone know what it is?
I've disabled it for now.

Looks like it may be Chinese, which ROM was it with?
It's with AOKP Maguro Build Milestone 1 ROM and franco.Kernel Nightly 10
it may have to do with the japanese keyboard just search for OpenWnn.apk & PinyinIME.apk in /system/app and just delete them if you find either one
That's apart of Google. It is called Google Pinyin IME. It is not a suspicious app.
It's included with AOKP, so that's why it says romanbb.

Definitely. Kind of weird how roman included that with his ROM since majority of his users won't be needing it.
@PaulG1: thanks for mentioning OpenWnn.apk. I was looking how to remove that as I couldn't find the APK for it

The official link to the version with the best reviews: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.tmobile.selfhelp
If that doesn't pull up on your device than the developer has filtered out that specific device, most likely due to the above comment, doesnt support ICS.
Attempted to pull up on my tmo galaxy nexus and this specific app doesn't appear for the developer Tmobile. Appears they filtered out support for our device.
Probably best route is to send them an email listed as their developer contact and inquiry about support?
Hope that helps!
Damn that sucks hopefully it works soon
Thanks foe your help

Even on 2.3 it was hit or miss, especially if you were running custom ROMs.
Just make a bookmark to the MyT-Mobile page in your browser. Easy.
States on the market page that 4.0 support is coming soon - which is funny, because it used to work...

Not really... It loaded about 5% of the time.
Used to work fine, all the time for me, then one day it just stopped...
If you don't trust the ics built in feature, I use the #932# in your dialer to see your data amount from tmobile..

[Q] Keyboard Not Popping Up

I'm having a weird issue in that I can't input text on a particular website (MyMathLab - it's where I do my math homework). The site lets me log in and click on links, but when I get logged in and pull up the math problems, I click in the box where you're supposed to enter text, the cursor blinks, but the keyboard no longer pops up for me to type anything. I'm using Swiftkey, but I also have (and have tried to use) google keyboard and hackers keyboard.
I used to be able to do my homework on this site using my phone, but I'm not sure why the keyboard, regardless of which one I use, no longer pops up. I spoke to a rep from the site who says nothing has been updated recently and the site is supposed to be optimized for mobile. Anyone have any suggestions?
Its probably cos the site might have been updated and no longer supports smartphone keyboards. I know that cos I also do homework on my maths. And can't do stuff on my phone. If its not that then maybe you need a new browser and flash player. I suggest Mozilla Firefox or Google chrome. Hope it helps.

I've tried all the available browsers. I bet it is the site - the guy I talked to didn't seem too sure of himself when he said there hadn't been any updates.
Just an update in case anyone runs into this - the FlashFox browser fixed this issue for me.
You can right away.
