WebOS on Defy? - Defy General

I know this sounds crazy but still...
Recently HP released the source code for WebOS and it was ported to devices like the HTC EVO 3D (with multiboot!!)
Wouldn't it be great to get it on our Defy? I know the devs are quite busy with ICS. But this might be a good idea....

Nobody managed to put different kernel other than the leaked/original ones and your're asking about WebOS on Defy... Man, you make me think that you've been living in a world of your own for the last two years or so...
Defy has a locked bootloader, so il will only boot Motorola signed stuff... not even fully custom Android.
Offtopic: Please give me a good reason to dump Android and fully switch to WebOS.

Well, MeeGo would be nice....support for both Android and Qt apps, but WebOS... really.

Don't be rude )
I had a Touchpad for a brief week to play with. It's got an intuitive interface and OS. Different from my Defy and Gf's iPhone.
But it's too little to late. Not to many apps. About "a billion less downloads". Unless some company turns this in the new Android.
Still multiboot would be nice. Diversity is a known fact here on XDA. I myself have used 4 different Oses -excluding WebOS which i don't know after a week of use- and Android is the best. Let's make Android better.
Also note that the best OSes are the ones with the best apps and support. Right now those are Android and iOS.

I said "Multiboot". There's no reason to fully dump out Android (the world's most powerful phone os) but WebOS should be great if you low on battery.

lets just hope motorola unlocks bootloader and get a full custom roms for defy and then we can think of other os

Even I'm waiting for the unlocked bootloader.
And I'm sure our really awesome devs will be successful in everything they do!

I suppose if you don't ask, you don't get.
WebOS is alright but I'd echo the other comments - the apps are woeful, obscenely overpriced and despite the latest move from HP it's dead in the water.
Whilst it's quite intuitive Android is definetly 10 times ahead of all the OS's not just WebOS.

Desire HD dual boot (Android - Windows Mobile)

hi, i was wondering if there is any possible way to dual boot windows mobile and android on the desire hd? if not, are there any plans by the xda developers to pursue this issu?
Thank you
+1 I want windows mobile on my DHD only because I love the mod.
Sorry but I doute this will happen, though we have many talented ROM developers on here WinMo is closed source, thus not allowed on our devices. In contrast android is open source that is why other phones have both if they're licensed. It could happen but it won't happen here.
Again sorry to dispoint would of loved to try Windows Phone 7
WindowsMobile is impossible. WP7 is possible since hardware are almost identical, even same digitalizers...

I think he meant impossible from the legal point of view, because Microsoft would sue XDA and shut it down. I'm still hoping someone releases a dual boot anonymously.

Why would you wanna do that?
If you want Android you are probably gonna buy an Android device in the first place and there are plenty of HTC Android devices.

Because as cotulla says : the hd2 is the king!!:]

Essentially because there's little call for it. The upgrade from Winmo to Android/WP7 was drastic and you could have a high end device on any of the 3 OSes by porting it. If you ported android to the HD7 you would have paid as much for a low-end android device as you would for a mid-high end WP7, it's illogical and stupid and thus there's no call for it.

The main reason is because there is no interest in doing this. And the reason for that is because there isn't anything wrong with WP7 as compared to WinMo. The reason the HD2 got all that dev love was to get away from WinMo on a superphone. WP7, though, happens to be the best mobile OS ever invented. So there just won't be as much or any interest in hacking the HD7 just to put an inferior OS on it.
see all
first must say ThanX 4 all
i want know only why the HD2 have all OS Rom
Y there is android rom for HD7
WP7 VERy Good
i can't say any thing
but only want tho know
I can never understand this response. I had a sdand/wp7 hd2 until it broke, and it was replaced with an hd7. I like wp7 better but android offers more functionality and has a lot of apps/games which are unavailable on wp7.
I loved the option of switching OS' at a click and I can't imagine there aren't many others just like me. The truth is that I spent much more time using android than wp7 when I had the choice of either.
I just bought a galaxy note so ill be saying adieu to wp7 for now but I seriously hope I can dual not wp7 on it.

Any Android sucks logo's I can use as forum signature?

Hey guys, I've been looking everywhere on XDA and on bing but cannot find any forum icons or signatures to use. I'm looking for broken android robots or something to show that I can't stand android. Since this is the WP forum, obviously I'm all for WP and would love to see a windows logo eating the android robot or something. I don't care I just want to find something to represent my opinion on this. If anyone has any suggestions I would very much appreciate it. I've been searching all yesterday, late last night and all today but still have found nothing.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions, thankyou very much.
Doubt it, most of us aren't so petty.

In a sense, Android is everything WinMo could have and should have been. Android is like a perfected and fully supported WinMo. Where MS was lazy or lackluster about fostering WinMo, Google is doing the opposite with Android.

I disagree. Microsoft naturally progressed into quality. Winmo made a great PDA but it, like android, simply didn't make for a good phone. Wp7 chose user experience. Android chose pocket PC.

While true, I have to admit that I have never seen a WM/PocketPC device. First mobile windows OS I saw was WP7 in a local store, loved it and bought the omnia 7. LOL...I had a similar experience when I took my HTC Inspire to a local AT&T to have them look at a compass issue. The lady serving me owned an Inspire and attempted to install a compass from the market to see if her Inspire would do what mine was doing. She couldn't do it because her Inspire froze up while trying to install a compass and she had to borrow someone else's Inspire.
WP7 is the sweet one, for sure. To me it's a work of art. But I can't wait for MS to get behind it like they did with the XBOX and like Google does with Android. If and when MS does that, the competition will quake and shiver in fear.
Android isn't the problem....it's the certain fandroids that ruin it...

ICS doesnt include hardware acceleration outside of the browser. That was a rumor that originated here on XDA. Compared to the competitors it's downright sluggish

Chaosz-X said:
Theoretically, it's possible. HD2 has the QSD8250 too, and they have MAGLDR and cLK, and the 8250 is perfect for WP7. So yes, if there's someone out there who can write the code for a nice bootloader capable of booting other OS's, you could run WP7.

This all sounds very nice and perhaps Chaosz was being sarcastic (i can't see these things in English -.-), this does sounds like its not going to happen?
Would it be possible?
Magdlr was (at least I think so) easier to do for the HD2 seeing it was already capable of running WinMo, than it would be to create a similar one for Desire?
Or am I wrong and someone already thought about it and I'm just to retarded to search properly?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
It's not legal to do so, MS would be very upset if WP7 was hacked up and put into an Android device, you're forgetting that we use Android Open Source Project, (AOSP) ROMs. Other phone manufacturers for Android are also very relaxed about having their UI's modified and included in ROMs.
MS weren't overly happy having Windows 6.xx made into custom ROMs for the HD2, but the OS was so old, and they already had WP7 in development I guess they just didn't care.
Oh yeah. I totally did forget everything about legal issues. So used to having open source android, that you forget
Thanks man.

Windows Mobile 7 on Samsung Galaxy SII T-989

Who dares?
I own a Samsung Galaxy SII T-989 and, because I come from the "Windows" side rather than Linux or Apple, I would like to be able to completely wipe out the Gingerbred ROM that came with the phone and install a "cooked" ROM based on Windows Mobile 7 or, at least Windows Mobile 6.5.
I am hoping that, all those great developers connected to this site and spending so much time on cooking roms and rooting android phones, maybe one day they would look into this project that will become, I am sure, the greatest challenge, the pinnacle of all great things ever accomplished and recorded on this amazing forum.
Would be cool to dual boot like the HD2 days. But TBH Sui, we barely have any devs for anroid let alone start a whole new can of worms with WP7. Like the idea though.... +1

Good Point Kallkti, but soon it will. I was at a mircosoft event and we will see an update in a few months to support it. In theory couldnt we just use one core like ....idk the original froyo/GB code, and keep the second core sleeping. I never wrote kernel code im only asking
lol we dont even have a working CM7 or Miui...yet you want this?! i dont think it'll ever happen
GS2 doesn't meet hardware requirements for 6 hardware buttons and who knows what else, but seems to me if someone wants a WM7 phone, you get one.
Another thought - get an HTC HD2 - ROMs available for WM 6.5, 7 and just about every flavor of android available. A little slow (1 GHz) but satisfies all other requests.
I think it'd be awesome, been thinking about this myself. Probably damn difficult if not impossible to do at this point.
My girlfriend has a Samsung focus and it's pretty sweet. I find myself getting jealous over her phone at times especially with the zune pass lol.

They have not released any dual core wp7 phones.
Windows Phone 7 will never work unless Microsoft makes it open source. The Hd2 was lucky only because the Hd7 has the same exact internals and even that phone doesn't run Windows flawlessly.
Its like trying to put iOS or RIM's software on the GSII. It will never work and if you are lucky to get it to boot it will be extremely buggy!!!!

I just don't understand why you would want that OS on such an amazing piece of hardware. WM7 in my opinion is just too limited in the things you can do, hence the reason why people including myself rid of 6.5 from their HD2's.

Windows Phone 7.5 is a better OS than Android. Does it have as much developer support? No. But speaking strictly of the OS itself, it's much more efficient, handles battery life much better, is smoother out of the box. It just needs more love from software developers.
That said, what the OP is suggesting is never going to happen. Least of all on the Hercules/T989
