It's been a great month with you guys but I decided to not waste my time and trade my S-ON WFS for a Samsung Galaxy Ace. I don't have the time nor the money to waste on a low end smartphone so to me letting this go was my only option. Some might say that the XTC-CLIP can be "rented" or some stores have it but I think that's BS to a certain extent due to my constant efforts of trying for a month to get a hold of one with no luck. I suggest that the whole community boycotts HTC and not buy any of their phones because low sales is what really hurts them the most. I will never buy a HTC phone again, not by anger but by principle.
I wish all of you good luck with your endeavours but mine ends right now.

See you on Samsung forums!
I won't be leaving the scene for 2 years, my dad won't get me a new phone. xD
I think i will buy another phone, maybe a HTC Sensation, but only a phone whch is full unlockable!
I'm too gonna exchange my wildfire S with Galaxy ACE...
But i hope, that everyone found a way to unlock bootloader
Then i will think about to use my ws as a second device
I am seriously thinking of replacing WS for Nexus S. It even has ICS ported.

Useless thread.
Nevermind, enjoy your new devices. I'm enjoying my WFS, tomorrow with S-OFF, then with hensemod and finally with CM7.
Four months back I went to a store to buy the Galaxy Ace but got the Wildfire S instead.... I regret my decision ever since.... and I cannot even buy a new phone for a few months more or maybe an year... i am stuck with wfs till then

The galaxy ace is also in the legacy forums as the WFS...
The only difference is in the hardware with the 3.5 instead of 3.2 inch screen and the 800mhz Qulacomm MSM7227 processor instead of 600mhz MSM7227 processor. So i think you will be trading it for another low end smartphone with mdpi resolution in the "low activity" part of the forum.
Just my two cents...
Maybe i will buy a s2
But not now, i will s-off on my wfs now
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S A510e using XDA App
Sad to see you go, but you forgot one thing. Galaxy Ace will never beat the black WFS in looks!
I will also trade it in for a Samsung Galaxy S2, as soon as this phone drops below 300 € (probably march/april/may 2012). There has been much progress in phone hardware and the ability to flash a custom ROM won't make your hardware better.
You will get: LCD --> AMOLED, 320x480 --> 800x480, 600 MHz --> 1.2 GHz, 5 MP stills --> 8 MP stills, 640x480 recording --> 1080p recording
Technology just did improve so much over the last few months. It's amazing.
However, I will still develop the software S-OFF I am currently working on. I'm just doing it for the challenge.
Had my WFS S-off since may before the forums hardly had any activity at all. I will be getting rid of this phone soon. I have only had it 8 months which is a shame. Should be getting a Samsung galaxy s II soon so I will be able to learn a lot more than I have here due to the lack of an unlocked bootloader to open development.
my wfs is currently posted for sale on a local site.. planning on getting a nexus s.
got tired of the waiting game..
farewell wildfire s... sold my phone.. moving to a root friendly one...
I just bought a Clip and S-off, root, link2sd, install a new ROM and an now very happy with my phone and all the free memory I have left even with my 70 apps installed !
I'm now reselling my clip and will take less than 10€ loss...
why don't you do the same ?

If you weren't trading in and you were willing to take some risks as you don't need it any more then we might have a better chance of getting S-OFF.

Getting a new phone at end of August, one that will need to last me two years. I know a phone usually goes out of date within a year but I'd like a phone that will make a decent attempt at staying in, via updates or whatever.
I'm really attracted to the Desire, but it is already 6 months old and I am worried that the hardware is already out of date. Should I get the Desire or should I start looking at some of the newer phones to continue the next two years?
If you think I should look at other phones, please suggest them. I also have my eye on the SGS, but the dev community behind the Desire (and the lack of apparent bugs on it, the SGS is fraught with them) keeps pulling me back to the Desire.
Chances are, there will be an 18 month contract out in August, so it might not be too bad.
Id recommend the Desire, but then again, better Android phones might be out by then so only time can tell.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Hmm, I'd rather stick to a 24 month plan as it is generally cheaper to do so.
Of course, if another amazing phone comes out in the next month then I'd reconsider, but as for now that's unlikely and choice for me is really coming down to the Desire vs the SGS.
I really like the community behind the Desire, and if people are going to stay behind it for a long time to come, I will most probably get the Desire. On the other hand, if the Desire's life is 'coming to an end' with the Desire HD and SGS coming out, and if people think the SGS is the 'next big thing', I might just get the SGS instead.
I think a 24 month plan would leave you stick with the same phone for too long.
1.5 Ghz Snapdragons are scheduled to be released till the end of the year, and dual cores are expected in the first half of next year.
1 Ghz snapdragon is still the high end category, but not for too long.
If you really want the Desire, wait a little more, and you might get one with a super amoled screen.....
Personally, I'd choose one of the new or upcoming droid(s) now.

There won't be any super amoled Desires, HTC are going to use a SLCD. (or a similar name)
My bad if I've missed more recent news about it since I read that

So would you recommend getting the SGS, ride out the bugs and wait for better updates?
I'm still a student and the phone I get will have to last me two years. Unless I win the lottery, of course.
I havent really heard of any new phones that are "Major game changers" recently, Unlike the desire which I had discovered well before it was even called that! I think all the companies have brought out there major hardware for this year anyway, X10, Galaxy S, Desire, Nexus One, Only other thing I can think of is Dell Streak and Motorola's new phone, When ever that comes to the UK if at all judging by the Milestone delay.
Stick with desire IMO
I can't speak for the Desire but I do have an SGS and am fairly happy with it. To me it seams, yes, there are many bugs still and it's far from perfect, and the dev community for SGS isn't so big yet. However, there have been a massive amount sold already and they expect a lot more sales, so that is bound to grow.
Also, it seems Samsung is working their ass off to get things fixed, and are dev-friendly (easy root, APIs, etc) We have new leaked firmwares now every few days. But will it fix everything? I had to face the same decision 3 weeks ago and went SGS.
So what to advise ? I wouldn't at the moment. If the SGS were operating perfectly I would definitely advise it over the Desire (I personally fell for the specs), but such is not the case.
The best advise I can give is, you still have a couple of weeks... postpone the decisions until more information is available, and SGS has had more fixes
Hi, Vodafone do it on 18 month for £35, 600mins, Unlimited txt and 1GB data which isn't half bad! (i think) lol

Thanks for your input, probably the best I've had in a while. I definitely got that impression about Samsung and how they seem to be acknowledging the dev community. If this is truly the path they are taking and the community is willing to take the bait (why not, it's a great piece of hardware) then the SGS will definitely be a great phone.
I suppose I'll take a break for 3 weeks and reaccess the situation then. My brain is still thinking a LOT about this though and it's hard to shut it off!
Thanks all, though more input is always welcome.
EDIT: Nvm.
HTC Ace
I have the Desire, and it's great. Rumoured HTC Ace (aka HTC Desire HD) coming in October ... bigger screen, more on board storage, HDMI out, same 1Ghz processor.
As much as I love my phone (even more now that it's rooted to Froyo), I would be tempted to hold off a couple of months to see what appears.
Before starting off, I would just like to say I did search for topics similar to this but they were fairly old and dont have much relevance since phones are changing rapidly these days due to roms, updates, firmware etc. So I just wanted to get some advice on what I should do.
I currently have a samsung galaxy s and I have had a few issues with it so im planning on selling it. The phones still functions almost perfectly but there are some issues with my particular phone so lately I was thinking if I should get a DHD instead. I have had my eyes on it from a looooong time even before it was introduced but I didnt get it due to lack of availability, barely any roms and at the time it was around $700-$800 with insane shipping times. So I got the vibrant for $250 and I snatched it up. Now i can get the desire HD for around $450-500 and im thinking if I should make the switch. I just would LOVE the 768mb ram and 4.3 screen and recently I have been using phones with large screens and cant go back to "tiny" 3.5" screens anymore. From my research the only issues with the DHD are camera quality and battery, but it seems to be getting better with newer roms and Im sure soon they will get even better. So are there any other issues which make the DHD not recommendable?
I am also aware that MWC is right around the corner and we will definitely see some crazy dual code, 1080p shooting handsets. But I think many if not all of the good handsets wont be available right away and once available, they will cost a good premium. If the good sets will be available by summer, that would be no good for me since Im thinking of getting rid of my vibrant SOON. Also any other phone alternatives you guys think might be worth checking out. NOTE: I dont keep a phone more than 2-3 months sometimes less or more depending how much I like the handset(had nexus1 for ~5 months, n900 for less than 1 month) so I can always sell the DHD once something very nice is available. Also Im wondering, anyone regret buying the desire hd and wish they had bought a different phone and current dhd owners, any phone you guys have in mind which you are looking to replace the dhd with. thanks so much for your thoughts.
My advice would be to wait. While the desire HD is a fantastic phone, mobile world congress is just around the corner in 3 days now, theres going to be some kick ass announcments about new phones.
As the thread states my friend just got a Nexus on contract and is using it to pay off his O2 contract as he already has a sim free iPhone 4S.
I can sell my GS2 for around £200-230 so just need to pay the difference to get it up to £300
Played around with it a tiny bit and it looks ok but not really sold on it however I do love the pure google experience (previous nexus one owner)
Good deal or not?
Yeah! Honestly, I got this phone yesterday and you will NOT be disappointed. The screen, the smoothness of ICS, it's just a freaking monster man. And You're only going to be paying around £70-£100 for the phone so you can't go wrong!
Edit: Just read you already own a GS2. I would not be so sure then, it depends on how desperate you are to get ICS, because once that hits the GS2 the only thing that will be to the Nexus' advantage is the screen and dev support, which is more than enough for me to go for the Nexus lol.
Decisions decisions....
Get it! and sell it me small profit for yourself
It's really a beast! Some of my favorite things are the screen, led, and the software buttons they are geinus!
Honestly, if I were you, I would wait until next year Q2 2012 when it is rumoured that quad core phones that are coming out. I'm pretty sure there are already ICS roms for the Galaxy S2 and you're getting it next year anyway from Samsung. However, I haven't had any experience with the Nexus so I can only tell you from what I think, I haven't actually compared the fluidity and smoothness of both phones.
keep your gs2 and wait.for.ice.

I sold my GS2 for the Nexus and haven't looked back. It's just a better overall device and probably one of the coolest gadgets I've owned.

Anyway, like I said before, go for it. You won't be disappointed.
Side note: The touch screen buttons have just made other Android devices look antiquated.
I am pretty sure I will if my friend doesn't decide to keep it.
£300 is not a great deal considering a brand new one sells for around £428.79. If you do not like it, you should be able to sell it for more than £300.

nice signature. lol.
It kind of depends. Since you already have a GS2 it's not really an upgrade but a lateral move from one phone to the next. The GN2 will definitely outlive the GS2 as far as official updates and dev support is concerned, but the GS2 already has plenty dev support right now and will likely have it for as long as you own/use the phone. The screen on the GN is way better, the processor is just as good, the GPU and camera on the GS2 are the only real advantages so it pretty much evens out in my book. It really is going to come down to personal preference. The reason I jumped to the nexus line was because I was a Vibrant owner and never saw a froyo update on my phone while Samsung promised and promised. The dev community and custom gone were the only things keeping me happy with my phone. About a week after the Nexus S was released I walked into a Best Buy and put my phone running a custom froyo rom with an overclocked processor up against a bone stock display model and the display model Nexus won every battle. I bought the phone a few days later and haven't looked back since. Now there are a few caveats to the story, one being that I had a variant of the GS and that Samsung had indeed finished the froyo update about two months before the release of the Nexus S (just not for the American variants) but at the end of the day, the Nexus S is going to receive an official update of ICS and the GS isn't despite them having nearly all the same hardware components. The devs are still there and they will give the phone a proper update but it would be easier with an official kernel to play with. Just my thoughts. Personally I'd go with the GN unless you plan on playing multiple high end games that require you to have a better GPU.

The stock google experience is swaying it for me right now and it looks like I will have to pay a minimum of £80 to £100 + selling my GS2.
Will see my mate on Thursday and take it from there and will let everyone know if I suddenly become a GN owner
My wife said no I cannot trade so I said it's an christmas present to myself so may have to sweeten her up a bit haha

Actually its a very very good deal. Its 429 + vat which is more like £520. Also considering its from his friend and not some random stranger he can be pretty sure there's not some weird fault with it or something dodgy. Its pretty close to having a brand new phone with £220 off
Personally for around £100 I would probably upgrade. I agree with other posts its more of a lateral move, but the SGS2 is soooo common now, especially in the UK, and its coming up to a year old soon. The Galaxy Nexus will stay 'new' for a while. Also remember the GN resolution is the native resolution for ICS and what it was designed for. Although other phones with lower resolutions will also get ICS i'm sure there'll be some compromises somewhere.
Anyway its all opinion, but for me i'm slightly for the GN. BTW I upgraded from a N1 to a Galaxy Nexus, and my only experience of a SGS2 is 5 minutes with my friends one at the pub.
Interesting as o2 would let me pay off my remaining 2 months of my contract so i could get the galaxy nexus earlier.
They told me they do not allow this anymore and for that they have lost a customer, they never even tried to do me a deal.
I pay £41 a month for unlimited everything on my new contract which would mean i will pay £984 over the 24 month contract.
Hes going to be well out of pocket once he pays off his contract is o2 let him.
Text my mate to say I am going for the GN so now it's just down to when I go and get some cash for my phone and when I get to see him next.
Good timing as well as he was considering selling it tomorrow!
I bought a galaxy nexus and returned to my s2...
Only the screen is better on this phone and the new os, everything else isnt worth spendig money on it...

It's costing my friend around £200 to pay off O2 and he managed to get the GN for FREE on 12 months at vodafone so he will actually make around £100 from this and will also be on a 12 month agreement not 18-24 months.
On o2 he pays £37-38 a month and Vodafone will be £41 a month so makes sense really for him to sell it and for me to buy it lol
I love my HTC Desire more than any phone I have ever had. I baught it the day it came out, and I have not had any trouble with it ever since. I have used CM since 6.x version and I love the product. It has kept me up to date without having to upgrade my phone.
Now im testing out some of the ISC versions that works on my phone, still I feel that the hardware is now not enough for me, (including cam- quality, and especially internal memory and processor speed).
So I wonder what phone should I consider if I decide to buy a new phone? Or should I wait for something extraordinary to come on the market?
Wait for HTC Edge or Ville. I also came to conclusion that I want better GPU and better camera. For 2-year-old phone Desire is still unbelievable competitive.

Those two phones looks amazing, especially the Edge with the quad-core. Hope the camera could be a reasonably replacement for a digital camera. I havent seen many phones that can match the flash that regular digital cameras have.
I am more devoted to stay with HTC after I saw they have the HTCdev.com .
Was considering to look into some of the samsung- phones, but I feel its a bit more plastic than HTC.
I agree with mikbe on this one. My Desire is suprisingly competitive after almost two years. If I should buy a phone today, it would probably be the SII. But since my Desire is still alive and kicking, I'm gonna wait for the "next big thing", whatever (or whoever) that might be. I love my HTC, but I'm not married to them Maybe the SIII...?

if you buy today, then I would choose HTC Sensation
but it is reasonable to wait for HTC Edge

Just be a few weeks until the next set of HTC phones will be released at MWC. I would wait until after then - something might grab you, or if not, the current phones should come down in price. This is the worst time to buy just now!

after my htc desire I may switch to the htc sensation
though...i also like the size and look of it very much
having a tablet some of the 'new-power-devices' features are not required
i may even go back to a smaller phone next time...so having more a 'telephone' than a small supercomputer
I was htc fan for many years now..but also considering a samsung as my next android phone
I think I will wait for the next great HTC phone. Now that I have Sandvolds ICS I can float a bit longer. And now that I have an extra partition I can install lots of stuff. The ICS is a bit buggy, bit hopefully it will become complete. Sandvold is doing a great job. Recommend it for everyone !
Few days ago I ordered One X and paid almost 700€ for it (Yea I'm dumb, I know), now I'm reading comments reviews about the phone on places like phonearena and gsm arena etc. They are all praise the phone like "The Best Android Phone period".
But I find those reviews pretty much useless, because obviously they don't say a word about unlocking bootloaders or flashing custom ROMs. Then again SGS2, GNex and possibly SGS3 are consireded as 'developer phones' and they recive a lot of developement from the community.
So did I just waste 300€ (As I could have bought GNex for 400€) for One X, or is it really worth it, development vise. I probably get rid of Sense on the first day so things like that are irrelevant. So I'd like to know are things like S-OFF and CWM aviable and is the phone generally easy to work with.
sorry about my english/ sorry if posted elsewhere

As a former Samsung Captivate and a recently stolen Samsung Galaxy S2 owner I am also new to the HTC world and I now feel like a complete noob. I just got my HOX today and I am still waiting for my SIM to be activated (Murphys Law I went to my phone company and their system was down).
I have high expectations for the XDA community on this phone, I remember when I got my Captivate I was frustrated and wanted to throw it in the garbage can after a few days, only to be in love with it months later after a good dose of Cognition and CM7. It got me to upgrade to a SGS2 which til the day it got stolen it was a beast.
So far I have culture shock. I am missing the deep blacks but I think I will be over it in no time. I am worried about photo quality compared to SGS2 but I have shoot a few test shots and I am ok with the photo quality in HOX. I do have to say the camera interface rocks big time!!!!
I remember how disgusted I was the first few weeks with Touchwiz on both my SGS and SGS2 but I am kind of digging Sense 4.0. I hope we can get great ROMS based on it and ROMS that optimize processor power and battery life.
