Wow, basically takes a huge dump on the GN.
It sounds like they went into the review with a bias.
CNET review strategy:
Does it have an "i" in the name?
If yes, don't point out any real issues.
If no, remind people that the iPhone is "better" in some regard.
Is it a decent phone?
If yes, give it four stars no matter what.
Rabble rabble rabble.
"and like other Samsung Galaxy devices, the Galaxy Nexus feels rather fragile"
VS being fragile like iPhone.
Talking about the keyboard:
"Unfortunately, it does not support Swype."
Well yeah, when has the stock keyboard in Android ever 'supported' an aftermarket virtual keyboard? Derp.
Also noticed that almost every paragraph has "but", "though" or "yet" in it. "Here's a good thing! But..."
Cnet is junk. I used to like them until I started reading article comments stating they were biased and always praised apple. I paid attention and began noticing them always inserting subtle praises to apple and dogging android a lot. Don't read anything mobile related on cnet. They are like the fox news of the mobile world.

Yeah same here. I went to them all the time during the dumbphone era, but with smartphones I don't trust their reviews at all. Usually I'll watch them to see if they give any new information, but they never do.

This is CNET we're talking about...Apple bias is part of their business strategy.
So, I went to my local AT&T to see if screen protectors were in yet for the Samsung Focus S and also asked if they had the Titan to which the rep replied "No and No." Now, keep in mind that the AT&T wp7 lineup was in the cut of the store hidden within a mass of other Androids. So, being the WP7 hype man I tend to be, I had to have a chat. Below is the convo:
"I really wish you all promoted your WP7 phones more BC they are amazing."
"Yeah, well I HATE the wp7 devices and couldn't wait to get rid of the focus I had," she replied.
"How could u hate it? I had the focus and it was a really great phone. I mean, you can't tell me the features it has aren't pretty freakin cool," I replied while clicking on my wife's tile to show her the immediate options it had.
"Yeah, I know what they do. I just didn't and don't like it. I feel like wp7 is just trying too hard to be like Android. I mean, it doesn't even have close to any of the popular apps that the Android has," she said
"Actually, they have a great selection of many of the most popular apps."
"You're serious? Come on, I mean, they don't even have the most popular app in the world, Angry Birds," she said followed by a smug-filled laugh.
"Uhhh, sorry to be the one to break this to you, but the windows phone got Angry Birds back in June"
"Well, it wasn't there when I had it. Either way, the windows phone will aways be playing catch-up to the iPhone and Android. That's just my opinion."
"It's cool to think whatever you want, but dont you think you should be a little less bias to a particular device when you are supposed to be selling/promoting multiple brands?"
"I'm not bias, sir. I tell every customer about all our phones."
"But, you didnt even know Angry Birds was on wp7, which has been available for almost 1/2 a year. If I were looking to buy my 1st smartphone and told you I liked the Samsung Focus S, but that I would only buy it if it had Angry Birds, you would have diverted me elsewhere based off inaccurate information."
"That's untrue"
"OK...thanks anyways"
And, folks, that's why Microsoft has had so mucn trouble selling their OS. Too many talented (insert sarcasm) wireless reps giving bad info
It's a growing theme, yesterday was launch day for the supposed partner of WP7, yet 80% of the stores didn't have any, 95% of the staff hadn't heard of it (one poster said an AT&T rep told them it was a Verizon exclusive lol), and most still tried to sell people iPhones and androids.

Why don't you apply for a job at AT&T Wireless?
You can kill a few birds at the same time, and set an example here - then many of your fellow wp7 fans would follow...
Obviously, *****ing and moaning about it in the forums has little effect, the situation is as dire as it was exactly one year ago when wp7 hit the market.

Same thing happened with the focus s launch in chicago and I posted my thoughts about it
And the lack of fanfare for any other place not named new york
http://www.wpsauce.com/2011/11/editorial-windows-phone-art-thou.html
Right now, the advertising budget, the blitz, I see it in Europe and very strong. But in America, it's dryer than...well a dry hump. It's rather bad
Though when you think of it, android had the same thing against iPhone, and in the end popularity won it favor.
I'm sure over time wp7 will have the same thing happen

Nice snipe pal, you really are a keyboard warrior.
One question though, are the droid forums really that boring that you have to come here to take pointless pot shots at others? i mean the guy was only trying to make a point about the marketing of a product.................. Mother would be proud.
This type of thing happens all the time, and will continue to until MS, or OEMs start marketing the phone properly. The more people see these commercials and ads the more they will ask in stores about the phones, forcing lazy reps like that one to actually do their homework. At this point, she barely ever has to answers questions about the phone so she has no need to do her job right.
XDA Developer members would make the best Sales reps
At this point, its more than a marketing problem.

Thanks...this is almost the exact same experience I had. Funny that both were girls, because I thought that they'd appreciate the UI even more than most guys (of the six WP7 users that I've converted, 4 of them have been women).
Anyway, mine was over the summer, and she had the Focus and said "I can't wait to get rid of this thing." A particularly weird comment to make to me, a customer who had just walked in and asked to buy a Focus for my wife, no questions asked, because I loved mine so much.
She went on and on about how much Facebook sucked on the Focus, but couldn't even tell me if she was talking about the Facebook integration or the app itself.
I was getting too irritated, and was close to asking for another salesperson (the one who sold me my Focus wasn't there, but he was stoked about WP7 and was excited to buy the Surround for himself), so I didn't pursue questioning her further about why she hated her WP7 so much.
On a side note, my 18 year old stepsister is one of those people I converted, and she hated her WP7 at first too, because it didn't do all the things her friends were doing on Android—custom ringtones, swype, video MMS, etc. etc. Fast forward almost a year, and she absolutely LOVES her Focus and totally stunts it in front of her friends.

It is amazing and sad at the same time how many ignorant mobile phone sales reps are out there in these stores.
Its almost as if its a plot to gradually wipe the phone out of existence but I don't think there's any stopping this phone.
I have said before, if you go to most carriers website, WP7 products have the highest ratings. We have hit over 1,000,000 likes on facebook, and with Nokia and Samsung getting on the action more, it MUST succeed!

As I said, there is more crying about the whole thing than actual actions - it's like MSFT turns back on all of their fans - announce $500 million budget on marketing at launch, and make it a no show.

A personal revenge, i.e. I'll make sure that whatever new device you personally buy is discontinued just so you can continue to be as angry at the world as you already are at this present moment in your unfortunate existence., will not get your brownie points as a CEO.

Makes people more impressed when they actually see it, and I don't feel like a sheepie lol
I went into an ATT store today to see if it was worth picking up a focus S to play sidebar to my lumia 800 today and a representative walked up to me ecstatic. The first words out of her mouth were "I've been waiting for someone to stop drooling over that tired old iPhone for 30 minutes so I could show them this phone, hi, I'm Katie." she then proceeded to pull out her own focus, walk me over to an iPhone, and show me how much smoother the wp7 device was and even used the term "peoplecentric." All the while I feigned ignorance and awe at the phone. She was absolutely ecstatic about wp7 and spent a good 20 minutes just raving about how revolutionary it was. After her spiel I showed off my lumia as well as my son's and told her that the focus series were the only U.S. based phones I have. I asked her if she'd get commission if I did buy it, she hesitantly admitted that she would, and I bought it for that reason alone. She gave me some sense of hope for the dreadful carrier interference in the success of a superior OS.
Dude, did you get her facebook?!
Okay, kidding. Nice to see that someone is doing a great job showing off WP7.

It showed that not all carrier salespeople are completely blind. I've actually been one of those who's encountered numerous reps who think we're running winmo and one who said it was laggy compared to his vibrant which I was excited to disprove. It was nice to see a knowledgeable rep.

So, when a salesperson favors Android or iOS over WP, they are "blind", but when one refers to the iPhone (which is another product they are responsible to sell) as a "tired old" device, they are cool? Gotcha. No hypocrisy going on here.

No when people go in asking about wp7 and the salespeople try to tell them about android instead or say incorrect things about the os they are blind..
Jesus does one positive story about at&t bother you that much?
She was obviously a little upset at the lack of an iPhone 5 this year. The slight differences in the 4 and 4s were a downer. She mentioned how she was an apple fangirl until she saw the 4s. Either way, the point was that it's nice to see a knowledgeable rep at att.

Thank you for yet another childish, offensive, utterly ignorant post (which as been reported). Go back to second grade, please.
As for the "one positive story" comment, it wasn't positive. It displayed the exact same kind of ignorant bias on the part of a salesperson that all of the WP zealots condemn every day. But since it was bias AGAINST iPhone, that makes it all OK.
No, the reason for praise was the fact that att miraculously hired a knowledgeable rep.

that had nothing to even do with it, yet that's all you derive from the story.

It was the fact she actually knew about the os and didn't try to talk him into another os when he mentioned wp7.

Yes, I have a bias - against hypocrites. The OP didn't say "it was great to find a salesperson who knew about WP", he went out of his way to point out how she called the iPhone a "tired old" device. And he also implied that not favoring WP makes a salesperson "completely blind". That is what raises my ire. It is ignorant and hypocritical.
I never said or implied any such thing. I merely respected the fact that she was knowledgeable about the device rather than shoving me over to android or ios like every other GSM carrier. Most cdma carriers don't even know they offer windows phones. What you took from it, you took because you wanted to flame bait me. You took one sentence from the entire statement and made it out to be everything. Sadly I didn't recall her sales pitch from memory, otherwise there'd be full chat logs.
I believe with the 4s people were expecting improvements beyond a camera. Their processor still doesn't make it run as smooth as wp7 so I hardly call that an upgrade, and the best software increase is something they bought off of their own market.

Maybe it wasn't your intent to give off a fanboyish vibe, but considering how much fanboyism there is on display in this forum (from both zealots and haters), perhaps you should proofread your posts to ensure they convey the tone you intend, and not something more incendiary.
If it is my job to sell something, would I not be considered incompetent? Yeah, this Audi is terrible, lets enter my comfort zone with a ford. That Audi is running on steam and therefor is inferior. I never said that I don't have a personal preference, however I believe it was clear that I'm not praising her for hers. It was simply pleasant that someone knew something about that which they were selling. When I tell carriers that I want social network integration, they veer me towards android, that is not the best option. When I had a vibrant and I asked about phones with netflix, they veered me towards the vibrant 4g with promises of "it's coming." The HD7 was readily available. The carriers are generally ignorant assuming that winmo and windows phone are the same thing. When cellphones are your financial income, take the time to learn about them.

Talk about backtracking. I equally suggest that perhaps you look at people's posts more neutrally instead of assuming there is fanboyism in them, which you seem to have done.
Well, I thought twice before posting this thread because I know off-topic and useless threads are frowned upon at XDA, that is understood by me.
But I'm sure a lot here have a sense of humor and will actually enjoy this funny review of the Galaxy Nexus I first saw about a month ago. I just remembered how funny it was and when I searched and found it again on you youtube I thought to myself, Galaxy Nexus fans/users gotta see this!!
Consider this topic kind of a celebration for those who just bought the GNX. And I'm sorry if this thread is thought of as a waste of time.
hahaha at the part where hes talking about "jailbreaking" the accent just makes it 1000 times funnier.
and that picture with the 3 phones are just a STILL image. i was looking at it and i was like wahhh! galaxy nexus isnt in there
You totally made my day by sharing this video ))
SPOILERS:
"(talks about iPhone 4S)... but the problem with it is iOS. And what iOS does... it's like you're in jail, you know ? That's why when you jailbreak it it's called jailbreak. Because you're basically in jail, you can't do ****."
Since this is the ultimate review, here's the ultimate robbery
The first victim complied, but the second only had a Droid, according to police. The thieves apparently didn't want a Droid -- so they took cash instead.
The third victim also didn't have an iPhone, but the men allegedly refused to believe her and threw her against a fence to search her.
"I think it speaks to the resale value of an iPhone," one student on the Columbia campus said.
In each case, the suspects got away. Police hope someone will recognize them in a newly released surveillance video.
The frightening encounters may be the talk of the campus, but students said they were caught somewhere between amusement and alarm.
"It's insulting they don't want my BlackBerry," said a female student.
"I don't like mine," said another student. "I'm waiting to get an iPhone myself."

Apple has once again called Samsung into court. This time it's about the Galaxy Nexus and four patents that Apple says it infringes. The patents in question are:
U.S. Patent No. 5,946,647: a patent for data being used as a hyperlink
U.S. Patent No. 8,086,604: a unified search patent
U.S. Patent No. 8,046,721: a slide-to-unlock patent
U.S. Patent No. 8,074,172: a word completion patent*
Apple is requesting that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus be blocked from sale in the United States because it violates these patents. *Should the court find in favor of Apple, a ban against the Galaxy Nexus would be put in effect until the final court decision. *
Could it happen? Certainly. But if it does, it won't go into effect any time soon, it would only affect stores inside the U.S. selling these products, and no jack-booted thugs from Cupertino will come pry your Nexus from your hands. We can't be sure how the courts will act, but all of these are pretty shaky patents, and once again Apple is not going after Google directly -- even though the Galaxy Nexus has a pure vanilla version of Android. *The only certainty here is that the patent system is broken and only serves the company willing to spend the most in the courts.
It's time for Google to step in and put a stop to this bull****. The first patent in question is the same one that was upheld against HTC in a move that shocked the tech community at large, essentially giving Apple the rights to the hyperlink -- something invented over 20 years ago by numerous companies that aren't Apple.
The other three are just as laughable, or would be if not for the fact that Apple was allowed to secure the patents at all.*Every single one of them has existed as prior art long before Apple became relevant, yet a patent was granted each and every time. This is the core of the problem. You can't blame Apple for trying, it's cheaper to litigate away your competition than it is to out-innovate them. *And make no mistake -- that's exactly what's going on here. *Apple wants Android to go away, and a look at any chart that shows market share will tell you why. *It's a ****ty way to get ahead, but it's too easy not to try. It's going to take a tech giant to change the way this all works, and we know nobody can count on Apple or Microsoft to do it, because this is their system, created the way they like it, and making them rich. If Apple is afraid to go after Google, Google needs to go after Apple instead of sitting on their laurels waiting to ride in and save the day at the last minute.

I would have def posted there if I had seen it, I searched using dif key words. However that is irrelevant now. The thread you linked got no attention at all, except for one guy who confused it for the old story that did NOT pertain to the US. Once again I would like to ask, do you have an opinion? Or does your lack or critical thinking always result in a "don't post this" attitude? I would like to discuss and get other peoples opinions please.

agreed!! Or rather what Apple does to it is. Did you watch the vid?
It's OK to steal as long as Apple is doing the stealing
Apple's new Slogan.
Apple is quite obviously scared of the SGN. Justifiably so. Unbelievable that they would go after Samsung though since the software is all Google....

The YouTube video in OP at the bottom, the Steve Jobs one..
Here is the link again, not sure how to embed it here...

eh..without watching the full video that clip is taken pretty out of context.
What are the chances of this blowing over and getting solved? Why I ask is that I want this phone but I need to put some money together to buy it since I have to buy it at full price if I want it and I'd hate to see this phone no longer being able to be sold because of stupid ****ing Apple.

In what context is stealing others work and claiming it as your own okay?
Edit: what about the patent Apple filed recently for a "facial recognition unlock" on their products!? It seams to me Apple is holding up the progress of technology by acquiring their products in court and not in the lab or whatever. They just throw around their weight and money and bully other companies to steal. Jesus Steve Jobs said it himself and you are still trying to defend them.

Well it was shot down over seas, but here in the US who knows. I would say you will hear about the progress and if it seams you need to buy one quickly you can. And there is always importing in case of a worst case scenario.
What I am most confused about is why is Google not patenting their own work!? I don't get it, they see what Apple is doing yet they seam unwilling to protect their own asses? Are they being wreckless or stupid or..?
Here, from AndroidCentral.. There are links for detailed info about those four patents :
http://www.androidcentral.com/apple-it-again-calling-injunction-against-galaxy-nexus
So, let's discuss those patents. Do you think Apple has a big chance?
Note that the first patent has won them against HTC.

That is the link/ body of text from the OP?. I don't fully understand patents and law but am very interested. The best I can do is state my personal opinions, which I think I have made clear already. I personally think it is a toss up whether Apple has a chance and this is just a way for them to cash in, slow Google and others progress and a way to bully others and steal once again. I think any of the four patents being infringed on should not belong to a apple or any other company either. Let's make progress not slow progress by bickering in court who owns the right to hyperlinks. Amirite?

Apple hasn't come up with much new since the iPhone 2g, they came out with a bang and stopped dead in their tracks. All they're doing now is putting speed bumps in front of all of those whizzing by them.

100% agree with that statement and i say it to my brother who has an iphone 4s all the time.
My brother has owned every iphone since they were launched and will defend apple to the end of time.
Apple came out with a great phone to begin with, but have since not really come out with anything completely innovative which has completely changed ios.
Still the same old launcher of icons after icons... same lock screen blah blah blah.
If you look at an origional iphone and then look at an iphone 4s theres not really anything other than the speed improvements that makes you think wow apple has come a long way with the software... ( other than the notifacation bar they added... wonder where they got that idea from ).
Apple need to man up and stop throwing law suits around and come up with some new ideas.
All this does is slow down progress for everybody.
Oh btw... Where do iphones get most of there parts from? Oh thats right... SAMSUNG!!!!
Apple can't sue software, they can only sue the hardware manufacturer. That is why they sued Samsung instead of Google.
