I cannnot get to recovery, I can only get into bootloader to flash sbf.
edit: How to enter standard recovery? Hold down volume down on blue led?
Ok, just hold the volume- button, the button which allows you to lower volume level, and AFTER that, press the power button. Then u should see the stock recovery where u can wipe data and cache. Just wipe everything possible, than u should be able to boot ur stock rom.

Ok, the fact that you can see a blue led means that you actually HAVE 2nd recovery and cwm installed. As soon as you can see the blue led, just press the volume - button. Now ur on bootmenu, choose " RECOVERY" than "custom recovery" and now you should be on clockworkmod recovery. Here you can easily wipe anything you want. But its still weird that you can see the blue led after flashing a full stock sbf by RSd lite. Coz after such a process the custom recovery and bootmenu should be deleted. I guess you haven't flashed correctly. Plz do it again, and don't ask for a How-to!...no, no, I'm not House M.D. ...

I dont know what happened exactly, probably phone reset itself during flashing and that is why I had strange problems.
During charging using "Mcguier" method I bend one pin on battery so tel was resetting itself because of that. Small wrong movement and bam...
Thanks evrebody for reply...
Reflash again using the RSD lite then try to apply the custom rom again

Ok so here is what happened:
I'm a very beginner to Android. And my Defy is rooted.
Then I found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=977989&page=1
I thought it would be cool to have a gray statusbar.. So I went to recovery, and applied the "Barebones_13-signed.zip" renamed update.zip
It said installation successful (i think) then I rebooted my phone.
Now it's STUCK on the M logo!!!
I really don't know what to do :'(
Tried everything;
Remove battery and reboot.
Plugged phone and reboot.
Went to bootloader (I even don't know what's that )
PLEASE HELP ME :'(

try installing the custom rom again, and go into stock recovery. when you see the little triangle press vol + and vol - at the same time. youll get a menu(navigate with the volume keys). go to wipe data and press the screen lock key(the one at the top) reboot, then youre sorted.
My friend was trying to flash Pay's ROM, on his MD525 Deblur.
He rooted it correctly, he then made a backup using system recovery, then he flashed it to 3.4.2-164 Motorola SBF with RSD Lite in bootloader mode..
After that he Re-rooted it again with SuperOneClickRoot.
Then he installed 2ndInit recovery installer.
When he was trying to flash the ROM.zip.. It showed an error, because 2ndInit 1.6 doesnt support Pay's rom.
He then tried to restore using system recovery.. the restore was successful. but when he rebooted, it is stuck at the red motorola logo and aftter 30secs it reboots again. and the process continues... So is it bricked?
I think he can now install the Nordic 3.4.2-177 and use cyanogen mod on it..
That can unbrick his phone right?
PS: Sorry for my bad english!

To get into stock recovery:
Turn off the phone
Press the down volume button together with the on button.
When the phone turns on, and you get a droid image, touch the bottom right corner of the screen. If nothing happens, press the up and down volume buttons together.
This will get you into stock recovery. It has wipe data menus.

Thanks for the Reply.
His phone sbf version was 2.59 eclair.. he directly flashed it to 3.4.2-164.
He lost the downgrade ability right? Or else can he still downgrade?
After successfully installing cm7, he made a backup using system recovery..
Now again the phones is stuck at the red motorola logo.. its stuck frm around 30 mins..
he also tried removing battery and rebooting but non working..
-Download 2ndInt Recovery Installer from Market or from Xda
-start the app, click install, wait for the led to turn green, disable usb debugging in the settings and reboot 2 times.
download CyanogenMod7 and put it on sdcard
- wait for the blue Led and then press "Volume down"
- "[Open Recovery] start."
- wipe "data/factory reset"
- "install zip from sdcard" ->- "choose zip from sdcard"
- reboot
- wait for blue led "Volume down" and then choose boot "[2ND-INIT] boot"
- done
Double Post..
Thanks for the reply!
But pls read my post again.. After successfully installing cyanogen mod 7..
He thought to made a backup, and after successful backup using system recovery.. after the reboot the phone was stuck.
Now he flashed it again to 3.4.1-177 sbf.. it completed successfully, but still it is stuck at android logo now.. What should he do?
After installing CM7 did choose [2ND-INIT] boot...?
Now the prob is that he was flashing the sbf on low battery.. I told him to recharge before doing that.. he didnt listen.. now his battery is not charging..
Try wall Charger...
Still cant get it to work.. Scared of doing this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=892026

tried wiping data/cache and factery reset.. still doesnt work..
tried to flash again with 3.4.2-177 nordic rom.. it shows booting 100%.. and also shows to manually power up this phone.. Still it is stuck at android logo..

Hello everyone,
first of all,I want to thank all those involved in this forums.
I'm here trying to have a solution for my defy..I bought it 1 week ago and I used it only the first day!!
My friend told me that I can upgrade android to 2.3,and I can get more apps with 2.3,so he tried to upgrade it but it didn't work.
once I turn on the device,Motorola Logo appear, then Galnet MIUI appear, and it loops unlimited times,it load for 4 seconds then loop again..
after..I told the person who made the video "how to upgrade to 2.3" about my problem..he recommended me to flash by RSD Lite and 3.4.3_11-Stock.UKTmobile_BLUR.sbf ,and then I did everything as he told me but it didn't work..this time I get White Motorola logo with Blur word and it loops unlimited time.
then I flashed again but this time I replaced the sbf file with "JRDNEM_U3_3.4.3-36-1.1.sbf",also it didn't work..this time I get Red Motorola Logo then ANDROID word.it seems to be loop.
I don't know whats wrong, can someone tell me how exactly to flash ?
Because when the program says Please Manually Power up this Phone..idk what to do,it's already on!!so I remove the battery then I power up.
help me please I was happy with 2.2,can I get my defy back to 2.2 just like when I bought it??
my english bad sorry
thanks a lot,
Boot into stock recovery and wipe data / cache. Then flash again any 2.2.2 sbf file. To update into stock gingerbread, your phone must have custom recovery to perform the nandroid restore follow with flashing fixed sbf.

Thanks a lot for replying,
Please excuse me iam really noob
I used to boot into stock recovery by Pressing [Volume Down] when i see Blue Led Light, but it doesn't work any more, help plz.
UP T_T,Please help.
The blue led light is the 2nd-init sequence to enter into custom boot menu.
It definitely gone when you flash another full sbf. But then you have the stock recovery to perform the full wipe.
Booting into stock: Start up phone and press vol- until android logo and follow with pressing vol- and vol+. Now you should be in stock recovery. Do the full factory wipe here.
Next boot into bootloader: Start up phone and press vol+ until you see bootloader screen. Don't worry anything stating in this screen.
Next flash your phone to froyo 2.2.2 sbf. If it still failed. You need to use another Rsdlite version or flash with another PC. It happen alot of peoples having flashing issue which is cause by incompatible PC.(Dont ask me why).
Make sure battery is in good state before flashing.
THanks a lot,I used differant farmware and it works!
thanks farsight73,

Can you access 2ndinit or Stock recovery by pressing both the volume key when blue light flashes??
I'm sure you can access Boot loader. If recovery not working then you may flash your phone with Froyo SBF using RSD lite.

I have it installed. I managed to install it and get into it previously with 2nd init. but without 2nd init I am battling.
I have tried volume down. that is when I get the "android system recovery utility" and not CWM
hey boswald did u solve ur problem ? and how please? coz i think im having the same problem once i install 2ndInit it says success but i never get into CWM and my phone keep rebooting on Motorola Logo and i have to flash again !.
Hey,
I landed up re-flashing. I then installed the new bootmenu and CWM (5). I then installed Sndinit and managed to get into the custom recovery where I installed CM9 and the google apps.
When I now hit the reboot in CM9 I have the option to go into recovery from there.
I did read somewhere though that when the little light goes blue to hit the down arrow and that is suppose to take you into the custom recovery. That worked for me afterwards but not sure if it was because I re-flashed and installed again.
Hope that helps.
How did you install a new bootmenu please ???
Monzer, when you install bootmenu are you installing the .apk and then opening the app and then clicking to install 2nd init? This is the right procedure! after you do this reboot your phone and watch for blue led to flash during boot, hit volume down once it flashes blue.
What 2nd init version are you installing? here is the latest http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=792601&d=1322064151
Are you trying to flash CM7?
There is a very old version of CWM that should be suitable if all else fails you. It should work just fine to flash CM7 but not so sure about CM9. However if you want to flash CM9 You could use this old version of CWM to flash CM7 which will in turn install a new version of 2nd init which is definitely suitable for flashing CM9. This old CWM "might" work for flashing CM9 but I dunno if I would try or not! Download in my attachment below!
You MUST enable USB debugging to install.
copy the apk to your sdcard and use a file manager to install it then open the app in your app drawer and choose to install the custom recovery (with USB dubugging ON)
THIS STEP IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!
AFTER INSTALLING THE CUSTOM RECOVERY DISABLE USB DEBUGGING.
You enter CWM by again opening the app and choosing reboot to recovery (with USB debuggind OFF)
thanks alot zyxwvut for replaying i really appreciate it , well im trying to install MS2Ginger , and the bootmenu i'v downloaded there was no .apk file in it ;s , there is META-INF and System folders in it , ok i'v downloaded the custom recovery u gave me should this do the work ?? i thought i can only flash CM7 and MS2Ginger only using 2ndInit !! so now i can flash MS2Ginger using custom recovery instead of using 2ndInit right ???
The old cwm I provided will not work for ms2ginger 2.1 because it doesn't give you options to restore devtree etc. You should install 2nd init provided by walter79 on the ms2ginger page for this. I don't quite understand why 2nd unit wont install for you. I've never had a problem. The old cwm I provided should be used only to install cm7
EDIT: the old cwm should work just fine to install ms2ginger 2.0 lite but not ms2ginger 2.1
Btw the old cwm backup directory is: apkrev/backup
Instead of: clockworkmod/backup
Honestly try the link for 2nd init I provided in my post I just can't imagine why it wont work. Seems crazy.

I really dont know whats wrong with 2ndInit i did install it once long time ago , could it be coz i fully flashed to 2.3.4 and i downgraded ? when i install 2ndInit it says success but i still can read that recovery 2ndinit NOT currntly installed the led is green tho but once i reboot , it keeps rebooting over and over and the only way to fix it is going thro the long downgrading method that starting from flashing the unique chinese eclair ...ect and i did all 2ndint versions not sure what els to do ! is there any other way to flash MS2Ginger or maybe other way to install 2ndint not by WIFI , i just dont understand why they use internet connection to dl it -_- thanks for your time btw .
You never even get a blue light when rebooting? I don't know if the downgrade from 2.3.4 is your issue or not, maybe. The downgrade is a dirty method and could cause problems maybe but idk because I never flashed 2.3.4 I can ask around the Dev section for you
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
nope never get a blue light , will yo do that ? it would be a life saver dude
Edit : one more thing is 2ndInit installed once it say success and the led turn into green regardless that it wrote its not currently installed , and how to install 2ndinit using url it might work who knows, a desperate man would try anything

None of the methods you are using can actually get you into cwm. The correct method is:
1. Switch off the phone. After the phone is completely powered down:
2. Long press the power button.
3. Wait for the blue led light to appear.
4. When it appears, immediately press Vol. Down button.
5. Now you'll find yourself in cwm bootmenu.
Note : Pressing power and Vol. Down button on powering up will only take you to the stock recovery.

Was running CM10-20120804-NIGHTLY-mb526 successfully, but having some performance issues, by following this process:
1) Go to Stable Recovery.
2) Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and go to advanced ► Wipe dalvik.
3) Go to Install zip from sdcard ► Choose zip from sd card.
4) Flash gb Kernel (JUST FOR DEFY RED LENS USERS).
5) Flash CM10-2012xxxx-NIGHTLY-mb526.zip.
6) Flash Gapps and Battery fix for red lens.
7) Wipe Cache and Dalvik again (recommended).
8) Restart.
I only thing I hadn't done was flash the gb Kernel, so I thought I'd try that to ensure I followed the full process. I received advice to reinstall this kernel-froyo-222-179-4-signed.zip.
However, after following to above steps, this time with the mentioned kernel, I get this error:
Bootloader
09.10
Err:A5,70,00,23
Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
Data Cable
Now I'm panicking!! When I turn on the phone, it doesn't even get to the second Motorola logo screen where you can enter recovery mode. Was this an incorrect kernel? Any idea how to fix this? BTW, I'm now at work and have no USB cable.
Really worried I've bricked it by installing the incorrect kernel...
EDIT: I've also tried entering recovery from Vol- and Power, but to no avail
I'm hoping that maybe RSD Lite can fix this, but not sure what kernel to flash. I think originally I might have flashed this kernel kernel-froyo-222-179-4-signed after using SuperOneClick, but can't be sure.
Any help would be very much appreciated!

I see no stock Telstra Australia SBF there. I was also of the belief that I couldn't go back to stock with a Defy+.
I can see some SBF for AU. Try flashing that. I cannot guarantee anything though.

Try the 1321 version first as it is BL6 and easily rootable. If that too gives bootloader error then probably you are on BL7 and the second one is the only way out.

Tried downloading those a few times, but they seem to be corrupt.
Any other SBFs worth trying other than JORDN_U3_97.21.51.sbf which doesn't seem to work? Everything seems fine when using it in RSD, and it says it's passed, but then the phone simply won't power up. Any ideas?
If it doesn't power up after flashing SBF, try this:
1. Remove battery.
2. Keep the vol - pressed and then insert battery.
3. Then press the power button, keeping the vol- pressed.
4. You should see a triangle logo with exclamation mark, that's the stock recovery.
5. Press vol+ and Vol- key together to get various options.
6. Try wiping data and cache/factory reset.
