Notification Sounds gone Awry - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I just got my SGSII E4GT a few days ago, trading up from my SGS Vibrant. In 4 days, I've almost recreated all of the customizations that I spent 15 months modding into my Vibrant. There are just a few things that seem quirky to me about the E4GT.
Most disconcerting is the notification sounds. I selected "Cloud" initially, but every time I got an e-mail it would play this grating Tinkerbell sounding noise. I checked the settings and it was still set to Cloud, but when I moved the selection to see if I could ascertain which of the other options was playing erroneously, none of the sounds would preview for me. I ended up turning GMail notification sounds off.
I forgot about this issue after I Rooted and changed to CWM 5 Recovery. I waited a day before flashing Calkulin's 2.0.1a (which FLIES!! I luvs it), and in that time I had a ton of apps force closing on me. Bigger fish to fry. Flashing the custom ROM stopped all the force closing and smoothed everything out tremendously.
Only my odd notification sound issue still persists. I still have the settings on "Cloud," but all notifications play that stupid tinkling noise and the menu to change the setting will let me select other options, but they still won't play the sound as a preview for me.
Also, my alarm played a different ringtone than the one I had it set on this morning (first time I've used Alarm since switching phones).
Has anyone else encountered this? Any thoughts on possible causes/solutions?

[Q] Quiet keyboard and screen lock clicks

Alright, I've spent all day searching and can't find a clear answer for what I'm looking for.
Just last night my keyboard and lock sounds are very quiet, now I've seen others with this issue, but I haven't seen anyone explain why this happens or how to fix it.
So does anyone know how to fix this, or have I missed it in my searching?
lolwut. Are you talking about the audio output from the keyboarD? Like when you type it makes that noise, and now that noise is quiet? I think its tied into your general phone sound level. Check your settings under menu-settings-language & keyboard-touch input
Yea, all sound levels are at max and the other sounds ( ringer, text, emails, ect...) still play at proper level. But the keyboard clicks when typing and the screen lock/unlock sound is still there, but just barely making any noise
nobody's got anything?
also last night to took my friend's evo and his is doing the same thing, he said he noticed it soon after the 3.70 update
This just happened to me. I fixed it with a hard reset of the phone. I had to reload the few apps I had and sync my google calendar and contacts. Back in business. Have no idea why it happened in the first place, but they are working now.
i have to say, i never really liked the hard reset idea so i never did it. today i let the battery run until it shut off the phone, i then pulled the battery, put it back in and then charged it full before turning the phone back on. and now my clicks have returned

Google talk won't play notification sound sometimes

This issue started when I first started using gingerbread roms, I'm currently using EF02plus but this started happening with EE03 based roms as well. The googletalk app, and I think the sms app as well, occasionally does not play its notification noise. While trying to pinpoint what exactly causes this to happen it never seemed to be very consistent. What happens is that if the gtalk app is left open with a conversation open the phone will not play the notification sound but only vibrate. Even when the screen is turned off. Meaning that if my phone is off and I never backed out of the conversation, the phone will silently vibrate. It does it the most under these circumstances but it seems to do this other times as well. My sister has an EVO with cyanogen and just to make sure I'm not crazy I tested the same thing on hers. It did indeed make the notification sound when the phone was turned off and every time i messaged her. However mine does not and many gtalk messages go unnoticed on my phone because it never played the notification. At first I thought it was Zedge messing up, so I added custom ringtones to the SD card in the appropriate folder. This issue is driving me nuts that I can't resolve it and will probably end up going to back to a Froyo rom in hopes of fixing it. Any input or idea would be greatly appreciated. This technically isn't really a "question" just hoping someone has the answer to why this is happening.
Most of my friends have android phones and we all use googletalk instead of normal texting, so its kind of a big deal that this app works. Again its not only when the conversation is left open but rather most of the time. It does however vibrate every time, just does not play the sound.
While messing with it I've noticed that when it successfully plays the ringtone it is accompanied by 1 long vibrate. But when it does not play the ringtone, the phone does a very short vibrate, stops, and then vibrates for longer. Its almost as if something interrupts it and stop it from playing the ringtone...
Edit: The interrupt delay between vibrates varies a lot. From a fraction of a second, to sometimes several seconds. And it only does this when it fails to play the ringtone. Otherwise its just one long vibrate.

[Q] Messaging notification doesn't always sound.

Just wondering if this was a common occurance? When my phone is on a lower volume at work, I've noticed when I get messages the notification sound doesn't always play. The phone still vibrates and I've made sure its loud enough to hear, it just doesn't play until I restart the phone.
Anyone else getting this?
Currently everything is stock apart from using Nova launcher. (haven't had it long enough to start playing with ROMs )
ive noticed this sometimes, but i think changing it from the message/emails settings will fix the issue

Notification Sounds (Call, alarm, text, etc) not working

I have had the Pixel 3 XL since they were first released and up until now have had zero issues. Last week there was a security patch and since then (not sure exactly when) my notification sounds have stopped working. They work over bluetooth, media sounds work, changing the sounds in the settings menu produces a test sound but the notifications only vibrate. Its almost as if its in silent or a do not disturb mode. I did not notice until 2 days ago as I am a heavy sleeper and usually sleep through my alarms and at work often have my phone on vibrate or low volume.
Online searches have come up with nothing more than going back to factory image to which most threads I read people reported within 30 minutes the issue resurfaced. Has anyone else seen this or have any solutions that don't involve resetting my phone. I would like to find a root cause instead of a band-aid.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Ring, Notification, & Alarm sounds are silent/don't work (but Media & Call sounds DO work)

Hi all,
Hoping someone brighter than me can figure this sound issue out.
THE PROBLEM:
Half of my sounds don't work, rendering my phone useless in the current state. As the title says, Ring, Notification, & Alarm sounds do not work. You know, as in the important stuff that makes your phone, a phone? And makes you wake up in the morning? None of these respective sliders under Sound & Vibration settings make any noise when making adjustments. By contrast, my Media and Call volume sliders DO make noise when adjusting. And sure enough, once on a phone call, I hear things just fine (Call). And YouTube, Spotify, et al. (Media) also work just fine.
Because some sounds work but others don't, this has to be a software issue, right? This would be easy if it was hardware and 0% of sounds worked, but nope, it's partial.
BACKGROUND:
This pixel 3 xl is relatively new to me, but has ran A10 and A11 with a few different ROMs with 100% of sound working flawlessly. But out of nowhere, sounds suddenly stopped working correctly as described above. And it didn't occur immediately or shortly after a new rom flash or update or anything like that. Just stopped working, months into a well-running ROM.
I've tried a couple different ROMs now to fix the issue from a completely clean install (/format data + flash latest google factory image as 1st step) but none have fixed the issue. Specifically, pixeldust (A11) and evolutionX (A11) were my latest troubleshooting attempts with no avail. Pixeldust was the ROM that was formerly working and then after months of 100% sounds working, suddenly stopped.
It's odd that searching throughout the ROM threads that no one else seems to be having this issue. Again, this would be easy if it was a hardware failure. But that doesn't explain how it works for Youtube/Spotify but not for other things, so it has to be software.... I think?
I figured I'd start a thread here rather than start posting in each and every ROM I've tried to troubleshoot this. Thank you!
This might not be relevant because I'm using stock Android on a Pixel 4a but my notifications have gone silent and this report was the only similar search result I found. I tried changing the notification tone and none of them played a short snippet so I'm wondering if the problem is there.
I have not found a solution for this issue.
One thing I noticed recently is that when I'm on a call using the regular "earpiece" or whatever it's called (which works fine), if I switch to speaker phone, I can't hear anything. I have to switch back to the non-speaker ear mode and I can hear the call again.

I think I may have finally found the solution!! Sometimes it's the simple things in life that work, rather than reflashing a billion different ways that finally gets things working again.
In this case, I simply cleared the cache and storage for the 'Sounds' apps under Settings -> Apps & notifications -> See all apps -> Click 3 dots in upper right corner -> Show system. Then, I deleted cache and storage for TWO apps, both called 'Sounds' with 2 different icons. I'm not sure which is the system app and which is not nor do I know if clearing only one of them was necessary, but this is what has worked for me and has survived several restarts thus far. Good luck!
