Recently I was asked which system apps can be removed without issue. This is what I have removed from various ROMs and haven't had any problems. Keep in mind that some of these are keyboards and launchers so you would want to have another installed before you remove them. If anyone else has removed other things not listed feel free to add in info.

As with anything like this. Making a full Nandroid backup before slimming the system/app directory is a GOOD idea. I have removed each and every one of these apps listed without issue. But you may have different results.
I would also like to thank VegaRooted for their thread located below. I found alot of useful info in there.

Apps Safe to Remove from Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch (Sprint)
Thanks for the list. Out of curiosity, what's your preferred tool for system app removal and are there any special steps you usually take beyond the obvious?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I personally use root explorer to remove and SD maid to clean up the remaining files. But you can use titanium backup to remove as well. I also move certain apps back to system/app. Like ADW EX and some Google apps.
Edit: remember to set permissions on any app you put back into system/app to rw/r/r

What is the intended purpose of removing this bloatware? To gain more RAM, ROM on a phone that has more than most out there already? Just saying!
Background apps use system resources, prevent deep sleep, and waste battery.

Exactly. I do it for this reason and I like having my system as clean and thinned down as possible. I don't like having apps in my app drawer that I don't use or never will. And it does make a difference in battery life and performance.
I use aCalendar for density reasons, if I delete the stock calendar will it still sync with Google?
TB is the easiest way to delete bloat and system apps IMHO.
It should be fine as long as you leave the calendar sync adapter. If it was me I would backup both the calendar and calendar sync adapter apks and then remove them and see if it works. If not. Then restore the sync adapter

It absolutely makes a difference in battery life and performance. If you de-bloat based off the scarmon's list, you WILL see a difference....maybe a big difference with idle battery drain

I would rather freeze it with the line pm disable com. Samsung with terminal as that one is needed to update prl and profiles. And while it isn't needed often it still is needed. So that it all up to the user. If one wanted they could remove it. Thank you for adding info. Its very much appreciated.
Also I found another thread burried in the themes section that had alot of info on removable apps. I am going to try to dig it up and credit that user as I got some info from them.
Bah! Your right! lol, system updates makes the settings FC. Oh well I'll just run it when I flash the next ROM. Thanks.

Good post, was looking for a concise list!
Yes, thx for the list but:
I am presuming that these apps are to be removed from> /system/app folder, is this correct?
Also, do they reside anywhere else and if yes, do they also need to be removed from that hidding spot aswell?
Sry, its the NOOB in me peaking out!
If this has been already answered, I apologize in advance.

I've just managed to make VoiceToGo work perfectly. Copy the so files in /system/lib and the apk in /system/app. Very cool app!!
Do not flash with CWM. Just unzip and copy in the above locations.
cool but you can just download the vlingo app from the market which is the same thing and gets updated etc.
How is vlingo app from the market compare with S2 VoiceToGo?

Better looking, In cat mode is not beta and probably more efficient. The only disadvantage is that it cannot be updated...

Hi. Im wondering if there is a modified gallery apk floating around. I really hate picasa, with a passion. Even if it isnt the 3D gallery, I dont care. When I remove the gallery and use a third party viewer app, we cant set lock screen wallpapers. Thanks!
SOLVED
Under Accounts and Sync|Google, uncheck the Sync Picasa Web Albums box and they wont show up in the Gallery.
My fav picture viewing app that I bring with me to every rom I run is QuickPic. Its super small and fast and does everything I want it to, including setting homescreen and lockscreen pics.
Check it out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alensw.PicFolder&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5hbGVuc3cuUGljRm9sZGVyIl0.
If you're referring to the fact that your email auto checks for new mail every 30 min. you can go into your email settings and set the frequency of checking email to "Never".

Remove the stock gallery and you can not set lock screen wallpapers, even with quikpic. Which Ive used on all of my devices. Looking to remove the picasa sync option altogether which you cant do unless you remove the 3d gallery, but then you cant set lock screen wallpapers. Hence the search for a modified stock gallery.
SOLVED
I've never seen my email app use any inordinate amount of battery life as a result of it running in the background nor have I ever read a post of how someones stock email client is draining batt life. Is that whats happening to you?
And to avoid the issue of setting wallpapers with other apps, just don't remove the stock gallery app and the 3rd party apps you use should set wallpapers just fine. If you don't like the stock app, don't use it. But to remove it altogether sounds like its leading to problems.
Not sure what you mean by remove Picasa sync option altogether. Just uncheck the box and its done, no more syncing, or are you referring to removing the menu enrty/option altogether under Accounts and Sync|Google.
If so I guess I'll go now. It sounds like you want dev help from someone willing to work on code for you. Thats waaay outta my league.

I modified the stock Gallery apk so that I wouldnt have the "Sync Picasa" option under the accounts in "Accounts & Sync".
I really do not like having that option in there, so I solved my problem.
I have attached the Gallery apk to share if anyone else is as picky as I am.
I simply moved it to /system/app, overwriting or deleting the original, then fixed the permissions. I kept the original odex file. Rebooted and all is well.
Extract the zip/rar file and use the apk inside.
I hope some of you find this useful.

You got me. I'm not a dev just a tinkerer. Be certain that it's named correctly, no spaces, perhaps at the beginning of the file name etc.. When you copy it to /system/app it should ask you if you want to overwrite the existing file. That'll tell you it's named correctly. Unless there is something else that you're missing, it should work, as it worked for me. I wish I could do it for you, man. I simply copied the apk from my sd external and pasted it into /system/app, fixed the permissions and rebooted. After the reboot, I confirmed the gallery worked then I cleared cache and dalvik just for the heck of it. Really sorry it's not working for you as easily as it did for me.

I have JJ Hybrid 3.1 installed with Sirkays kernel. Is there a way to reinstall some of the Sony apps like Weather Widget, Widget Select Widget, Alarm, Possibly even the home launcher? I tried copying the weather widget apk into system/apps with rw-r-r and rebooted but it still is not available in the ICS widgets menu.

Can anyone recommend a stock ROM without McAfee and Wisepilot (the two apps I am unable to uninstall). Tweaked to be smoother, faster and more stable would be nice also.
Really I would like only Home launcher, Panorama, Weather widget, Alarm, Widget select widget, Turn things on and off widget (or a better status bar with toggles like some ROMs). Everything else can pretty much go to the bin

Install Titanium Backup and remove them.
To use the Sony widgets, you need to have the Sony home launcher. Else, it won't work.
You can easily remove McAfee and WisePilot once you root your phone. Either browse to the app location as root and delete it (or) use Titanium Backup as XperienceD suggested.

I did (tried normal way and with Titanium) and it said they were uninstalled. Reboot the phone though and *POOF* they come back.
try root uninstaller and reboot they are gone for sure,
but why advice everyone titanium back up ?
in my eyes is it a sh*t app

Ah, then uninstall them again, and look for two apks named McAfee and WisePilot, remove them before rebooting and the will be gone.

Then you need to look for another two AFTER uninstalling. I've seen this before and I can guarantee they can be removed, you just need to find the two apks that auto install.
There must be a copy of those two apks somewhere else and that's causing this problem.

Copy .apk files from stock-based roms such as Arconium or MooDeD ICS. They are placed in "app" folder.
Hello All,
I purchased a Tab 3 7.0 and after applying root and installing titanium back and am wondering which APKs are safe to remove. I've gotten rid of the music player, music hub, the samsung app store, and there video player.
I was hoping we could get a list together to see what other systems apps are safe to remove.
Thanks!
good idea

Good first removals.
One of the greatest advantages of Rooting is getting rid of all of the useless BS.
I use root explorer, go into system/apps and start marking the apk and odx of files I know I don't/won't use. I move them to my sd card in the "bloat" folder a few at a time and have not seen any issues. 340 MB and rising in there now.

I can confirm that almost everything on the list from the link can be safely removed, mind you not everything on the list was installed

To see whays running in vackgroung go to app manager in settings and swipe to go to running apps window
The ones running can be seen there
Also the cached apps the app processes tht h been stored in ram for faster multitasking can be found by clicking on cached apps on the top cornee
See the helium script in dev section it is a cwm flashable package to remove bloat
If u wanna find out yourself
Id suggest freezing apps then see if there r any problems then make a backup (if u r still unsure) and safely delete the app. So if u find the need u can just restore it

You shouldn't be removing stock apps, if you don't know what the result will be (whether it is safe to remove or not). This is a good example of why.
Safer to "freeze" apps with Titanium (or similar app) to test what the results will be, before removing outright.
You're removing a lot of things which I don't typically see removed. So the only way to tell is process of elimination.

"Freeze" is similar to "disable" app in the native Android settings. But the "disable" function is not always available. "Freeze" disables the app, without removing it. So you can simply "unfreeze" if you run into any issues with it frozen. Or on the other hand, if you test a "frozen" app for a while, with not negative side effect, you can probably go ahead an remove it.
