Did a search but did find anything.
I was messing with my voicemail settings and just checked for update and to my surprise UPDATE downloading...
With updated VM: There is an Inbox, Sent etc.. also what's cool is I don't have to call and wait for their vm to answer (specially if I'm not in the mood for a phone conversation), just record voice message, select recipient and send. NICE!
Maybe I'm late in this game but just found this update...
From within the Voicemail app itself: menu key>Settings>Check for update
The update also lets you save your voice mails to file. Now you can easily share the calls the psycho ex leaves.
There's also more discussion about the update here. Some people reported they didn't find the update while still on EG30. I did, but I'd already been "chosen" for the EK02 upgrade so I'm not sure if that explains it.

After flipping between ROMS, I find my VVM is no longer working, nothing goes to my VVM. Even when I get voicemails, they do not show up in that app.
I did do something once when using CM6, I got a text message from that 9016 and called the number it said to retrieve it. Ever since my VVM has not been working. I am currently running Baked. Any suggestions?
I have the same problem on the Baked 1.5 rom. It tells me that I have a voicemail, but is unable to retrieve.
If it were me, I'd flash a stock rooted rom. See if voicemail works with that. If it doesn't, call customer service and tell them you are having problems with visual voice mail retrieval and if they would be so kind as to give your voice mail a full reset on their side.

Here's a few I googled and some possible fixes.
Oh, this is for the text from 9016 snafu. I don't know if it will help you.
Make sure under Call / Voicemail Settings that it displays your phone number. Otherwise I would wipe and reflash.

Lol. You will keep getting that txt. I'm not going to flame you but if you would of searched the forum you would of seen my post on vvm from yesterday or used the search feature I'm sure it would of popped up with vvm.
Anyways use the app private conversation from the market. Has a blacklist. Can do just SMS, phone call, and both SMS and phone call from a number. This is what I used.
Now go to settings and call setting, voicemail and make sure your phone number is in there if not change it. Mine was *86 so I had to change the number to mine. There ya go. Please do a little effort on searching. I use the xda app and the search always brings up roms and themes most of the time instead of what I'm looking for but I still try first and go to the forums and go through a big list.
Hope this helps.

You the man! This was the problem (for me at least). It had the option of using "carrier" or "google voice" for voicemail and neither one was checked. I'm assuming that's because the data wipe and installation of a new rom. I checked carrier and tested it out. It's now good to go.
Thanks!
Got it working =]
@martyzidek: I did search first, but I was probably overly specific and got no results from my search =[
@herbthehammer: I did just that, installed a plain rooted 2.2, and for good measure I then ran a Master Reset (##786#) since I already knew my code from trying to update the PRI. I double checked that my voicemail # was showing up correctly (thanks @dglowe343), then had my girlfriend call and leave a message. I then received 6 voicemails all at once: the one that my girlfriend just left and the 5 others that didn't show up. =]
This morning everything was fine. I was able to receive voice mail's via Google Voice and text through the stock messenger app (on CM7 nightly)
I went ahead and installed Deck's ROM and instead of restoring Google Voice via MyBackup Pro I just installed it fresh from the Market. This is where the trouble began. Fast forward...I restore my Nandroid of CM7 nightly (where i previously had NO problems) and this is what is happening:
1. Text are only coming through the Google Voice app...I can send text through the stock messaging app but cannot receive them.
2. When I pick up a phone call I now get a message stating I should press (1) to take the call or (2) to send it to voicemail!
This is driving me INSANE!!! I have a feeling that this new Google Voice integration with Sprint is what the problem is. I have no idea how to fix the problems listed above...please help!
Ok. I went to google.com/voice and logged in to access some options that aren't available through the APP. I was able to disable the "Call Screening" So now phone calls are received as normal.
However, I still can't figure out how to stop this POS Google Voice from messing with my text messages. Now when I get a text I get only a google voice notification and no stock messenger app notification. this is retarded!
In the Google Voice settings you have to check the option to receive text messages on this phone. If you have that and inbox sync turned on you will get text messages in both the messaging app and GV. It's annoying but it does work.
my only fix for this was to disable inbox sync, but have voice send me texts when i get a new voice mail. its so super annoying...

There is a workaround. Just figured it out so thought i would share.
Go to phone (first tab in voice settings) > edit settings > very bottom - check you would like to receive text messages on this phone & save settings.
Problem should be solved.
Hope this helped
Yep, you have to edit the settings for your phone, when it shows what numbers you have under your account.

Dude, I had this same issue, yes you can disable the pressing 1 option, but i disabled google voice about 50x on my phone, and i did about 5 factory resets, called sprint 5 different times talked to 10 different reps.. I literally tried everything for over a month to fix my texting issue, If i didn't use google voice i couldn't receive a text on my phone.. Sprint literally suggested that i just get a new insurance phone and that they would waive my $100 fee, which i wound up having to do... If you are unable to get text messages on your native app there is NO fix for it.. Don't waste your time trying.. I literally spent hours a day for a month uninstalling and reinstalling google voice, factory resetting, downloading every messaging app, reinstalling the messaging apk's.. Having sprint change my number and reset my phone.. There is nothing you can do.. The only way to fix it is to get a new phone.. Which unfortunately causes you to lose root.. Just giving you the heads up.. I'm in no way a noob and i'm extremely good with my EVO.. I'm rooted and have ran basically every ROM out there, and I've made 100 posts on google voice forums and on XDA and even called every rep at sprint to try and fix it.. To this day i've read this happening to probably over 50 people and Not a single one of them ever found a fix, and ever single post i read the original poster said they had to get a new phone to fix it.. and i'm just another number on that list, as i now have a 2.3.3 unrooted evo because of this= / Sorry man.. stay away from google voice.. They offer 0 tech support or live help and there is no fix for this issue as of yet.
Everyone will tell you, just go to google.com/voice and click 'disable' under the gear in the top right hand corner.. But i did this literally over 50 times and i would install and uninstall google voice over and over and over, and nothing i did would fix my texting issue.. You can try.. but i'm telling you it's not going to fix it.. Even a factory reset and not logging into my google account wouldn't fix it.. I have no idea what causes it, but somehow it permanently blocks your ability to receive text messages without their google voice app.
i am also having the same problem. after installing google voice to recieve voice messages on my sprint htc evo i no longer recieve text through my stock messenger. ive called sprint 4 times and been through the steps (resetting my phone, taking the battery out, factory reset, etc) but i still cant recieve text.
ive tried changing the options through the gv browser, nothing! is there no way to fix this??
I'm in the same boat. I rooted, flashed a couple find and somewhere in between I wasn't getting text messages or voicemails. I unrooted, factory reset and it was the same. I finally went in to Google voice and made the settings so I can now recieve both cm and texts but even with the Google voice app on my phone telling me that I should be recieving texts through the native app I don't. Not sure if this is a root users problem only or for stock users that never rooted their phone.

Oh and I'm picking up a replacement EVO today to "fix" the problem. I guess ill root it nandroid backup first thing and try a Rom out. Wonder if 3.0-3.5 sense roms are breaking it.

Interesting. I had the same issue, and just as I was at wits end, and changing/editing all settings I got it to work. To review my settings:
Phones Tab:
Google Voice Number: (my cell #)
Forward Calls to: box checked - (my cell #)
- receive texts at this phone (box checked)
- Notify me of new voicemails via text (box not checked)
Google Chat (box not checked)
Voicemail & Text Tab
- Email the message to (my e-mail address) (box checked)
- Forward text messages to my emailmy email address) (box not checked)
- Transcribe Voicemails (box checked)
Calls Tab
- Call Screening (off)
- Caller ID (incoming) Display Caller's Number
- Enable "Do Not Disturb" (box not checked)
- Place missed calls in the inbox(box not checked)
- Send missed calls to my email(box not checked)
- Enable Recording (4), Switch (*) and Conferencing options on inbound calls(box not checked)
- Send calls and text messages from numbers identified as spam by Google directly to the Spam folder(box checked)
There are a few other questions/tabs but none of them seemed to have any remote possiblity of effecting calls/texts.
I also use Handcent as my text default text app
I hope this helps.

I think the google voice settings might conflict - just go reset them (see my post above for my settings). You may need to go to the app manager, click on google voice, and press "clear defaults" -- then the next time you press the message app, you will get the GV/stock messenger choice. You can then mark it as default.
I hope this helps!
well i unrooted my phone, but it didnt help, seemed to make another problem!, now not only would i not get texts or voicemails from the stock apps or any other for that matter, now i couldnt make calls or recieve any calls.
i called sprint and explained it all again asking for tech service right away so i wouldnt waste time removing the battery, updating the prl and profile etc.. anyway after a hour with a tech my phone is working good as new.
it was funny cause after he told me some things to do to it i started getting a flood of texts from the stock messenger and tons of voicemails from the stock voicemail app. it now works perfect, no google voice needed! he had a hard time getting the voicemail to work at first, he said it was going nowhere. when people called my phone it said the cricket customer! im with sprint! he had me enter some codes in the phone app that he said reset the phone, on his end and on the phone itself.
anyway its fixed! no need for a new phone.
heres the steps he told me to do, i hope i got the numbers right:
dial ##654458#, it will do something and go to another screen after resetting some things.
select edit
then theres two options, select the second number (msid i believe) (write it down first)and change the number to ten 1's (thats 1111111111)
then hit menu on your phone pad and select "commit"
the phone will reset itself.
now do those steps again but enter the old msid number i told you to write down, back into where the ten 1's are.
then hit menu on your phone pad again and select "commit"
the phone will reset itself.
it should be okay after this and you should recieve texts and voicemails from your stock apps.
note: i uninstalled and disabled google voice from both my phone and through the google voice web site settings.
I had the same issue. When you set up voice you integrated your sprint phone number with google voice. Uninstall gv and reinstall gv. On the first screen it asks you to integrate your phone number with gv. Skip that and proceed with normal install. All your issues will clear up.

Gv is pretty cool. You can set up different voice mail answer messages for different people. I have one for my wife and one for everyone else. Plus it'll dictate messages for you if you don't want folks to know you are checking you're vm.

I tried searching that thread but I only find posts referring to the blue theming of the vvm app, none that talk about getting it to work. and I assume since he went to the trouble to theme it that it must work for him, and since there is a lack of posts about it not working it must work for almost everybody...
but I cant get it to work. I went through the update profile and PRL, and it just doesnt work for me, I always get those texts from 9016 saying to call in this weird number to listen to my voicemail. it still works if I just dial my own number and listen so I dont know why it tells me to call that odd number.
anyone have any ideas? Ive been keeping with the updates recently and would like to continue to stick with that rom but I really want my vvm back...
Are you using a 3rd party messaging app like gosms or handcent?
If so that is what may be causing your issues.
Copied from
Make sure that no 3rd Party Apps are affecting Visual Voicemail.**Two applications in particular,*Go SMS and Handcent*have been causing issues with Sprint Visual Voicemail.*·*********
If you have*Go SMS*you will need to disable the "disable other text notifications"*·*********If you have*Handcent, you will need to go into Handcent, press menu, settings, application settings, default messaging applications and then check "disable".**Now…..*
1.*******Go to dial pad and hit *38 Talk to cancel any call forwarding.*
2.*******Power off the device and remove and replace the battery and power back on.
3.*******Update profile by hitting Menu – Settings – System Updates – Update profile**(try to leave yourself a VM)
4.*******Go into the visual voicemail application and compose a visual voicemail message (Hit Menu*àCompose) of 5+ seconds and send [email protected].
Test to see if visual voicemail is working again,*
thanks, Ill give it a shot in a minute, phones booting up from the latest 1/15 update.
I just completely got rid of gosms and tried it and they are back, thanks.
For about a week now my Spring S3 has been nagging me to update the visual voicemail app. The window says "With this update, you wil be able to enjoy premium Ad-supported features such as inline playback and auto forward to email."
I'm sorry, I already pay Sprint enough, including paying extra for visual voicemail. I will not "enjoy" anything more that is ad supported in my freaking voicemail...
Does anyone know what the heck all these features are? And if there is any way to make the phone stop nagging me? It's constantly in my notifications and pops up every single time I open the app. Annoying to say the least.
Have you tried asking in the Sprint S3 forum?

I accepted the update the other day, after making a backup with Titanium Backup first in case I wanted to go back.
The update adds subscription premium features:
- voice mails are transcribed
- auto forward voicemail to youe email
- share voicemails to facebook and twitter
- play messages directly from your inbox
- $1.99 a month
I do not see any features that are worth $1.99 to me. The update is not too annoying about pushing you to subscribe. It simply has a little blurb with a link to subscribe on the message detail screen where the voicemail transcription would normally be.
View attachment 2018892
I do not see a reason to avoid the update.
That update came out several months ago. That's weird it's just getting to you guys now. Just accepted, it updates the view of the voice mail app plus you don't have to purchase anything as M20120 said it just gives you the option should you wish to.

A while back I decided to try AT&T's Visual Voicemail (VV) instead of the built-in app. I'd like to remove it now and revert to the original app but I'm not sure exactly how.
My issues with VV which if I could rectify would make it so I would keep it....
When I get a call that goes to voicemail, the green "phone" app on the home screen will show that i had received a call, but it does not clue me in to that I have a message waiting for me in a different app (Visual Voicemail). So, unless I check VV every time I've missed a call, I have nothing showing me on the main screen that the message is sitting there waiting. At least with the built-in app that came on the phone, I'd see that there was a message waiting and I could have the phone call the voicemail number so I could retrieve the message..
So, either how do I make VV hook up better to the phone app so that it warns me, or if that can't be done, how do I disable VV and make calls go back to the original voicemail app that came with the phone? I'm not sure if simply deleting VV will make everything revert, or if I might need to contact AT$T or possibly have to do something else.....
BTT
Use Titanium Backup to freeze it, that's what I did and also if you have a Google Voice number you can fwd your voicemails to GV and integrate that into the call log and listen to your VM straight from the call log without the need for att voicemail app. You can search on XDA for the tutorial or if you wait I can look up the thread and place it here when I get home.

Thank you for your response! I ended up calling AT&T and having them disconnect it, from their end. They then had me dial "1" and set up my "old" voicemail. Now, at least when I get a voicemail I get some sort of notification, instead of having to open AT&T VV every time I pick up the phone to see if I might have missed a call and gotten a voice message.
If you could link to the tutorial, I'd appreciate it!!!
Curious though...when I go into the settings of the voicemail, the top line shows "Service" (followed by Setup, Notification Sound, & Vibrate). Clicking on "Service" I have a choice of "My carrier" & "Google Voice". I have it set to "My carrier".
I did install GV a while back but never used it. When I click on GV I do have a phone number listed, along with a "welcome" message form GV.. What to do with it, I don't know, so any tutorial or guidance would be quite helpful and appreciated!!!
There may be a multitude of great things that GV can do, but all I'm currently looking for is a way that when I miss a call and the caller leaves a message, that I get notified, and don't have to actively go searching on the phone just to see if I might have gotten a message. My notifications bar at the top is so overcrowded that a voicemail-waiting icon will typically not be on-screen. So, if GV will put a notification on either the lock screen or on the bottom of the home screen near the "phone" icon, I'd be a happy man!!
You could have just deleted the apk from system/app folder
