Quick tutorial for unlocking new Xperia devices. Although there is one on the SE developer website, this thread can be used for users to discuss their problems during unlocking etc.
Warning! This procedure will wipe the /data partition of your phone.
1. Download:
-fastboot package: http://www.multiupload.com/BMJ24IL6XY
-32/64bit drivers: http://www.multiupload.com/0XZV1LXRVA
2. Go to: http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions
3. At the bottom click 'Continue' and enter your IMEI (type *#06# to find out), name and email address
4. You should now receive your unique unlock key
5. Extract fastboot.rar and open fastboot folder
6. Hold SHIFT and right click on the background of the folder
7. Select 'Open command window here'
8. Connect your phone in fastboot mode (turn phone off, hold menu button and plug in USB Cable)
9. In the cmd windows type in fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version
10. If a value is returned, it means the phone is correctly connected
11. Type in fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY and replace KEY with the key provided in step 4.
12. You're device should now be bootloader unlocked
If this tutorial is too much for you then itskapil wrote a step-by-step guide (and recorded a video also):

Very funny
I know this procedure, as I mentioned it myself earlier to someone over here !
If I post a question here, it´s because i did not work for me
( -> Point 1 & 2 )
You said it said there was no x64 driver, I quoted a post that provides one. The problem isn't Windows 7 x64. I assume you've uninstalled the device and started from scratch?

Can you give more details about what didn't work for you? please be specific and give maximum details so we can help you more...
I'm on W7 x64 and it worked for me without any problem at all so i guess it's not a 64 bit driver problem. if you insist i can give you the drivers from my OS, maybe your's corrupt or something.
cheers
Oooh I get an idea
I unchecked "Show only compatible materials", then I was able to see want I wanted and installed it.
I think now it´s ok, but in fact, I have nothing to flash
what does it mean when it says "it will delete the partition"??

The links that you have given to download the drivers don't work they either force you to download ilivid.exe or another zoom downloader. I have tried downloading and installing both but both don't give me the drivers. Something is wrong can you please point me to a decent URL for downloading the 64bit drivers for Windows 7.

I installed Flashtool, from Flashtool folder I installed drivers for fastboot and my device and that's all I needed to do.
Not helping much
It's all very well getting all snotty and telling people to use the search, but PLEASE keep your links up to date.
I have a problem with my Arc LT15i and am trying to unlock the boot loader. I have x64 Windows 8 and cannot get Windows to see the phone. ALL of the links I have found on the internet, here, at Sony Ericsson and any other place I have found are ALL dead links or try to foist some crapware on you.
I get the blue light on the phone indicating it is trying to enter Fastboot, but Windows will not see it, it appears as S1 Boot Fastboot in Device Manager, but no driver that I've found will work.
Flashtool may be very good, but it only works if you have an unlocked boot loader (according to Sony Ericsson).
If anyone has a Windows 8 64bit driver I'd really appreciate it if they'd pass on where to get it.

I have the same issue, running as admin but drivers won't install!
Hi everybody
I would like to unlock the bootloader of my ARC S , 4.0.2.A.0.42, sim unlock factory and with a generic fw.
I used the tuto of sony ericsson , asking me to replace a file in C:/AndroidSDK/extras/google/usb_drivers , something like that.
So i replaced the file. Pressed menu button and plugged the phone.
I have the choice to select the driver, indicate the folder and it begins to install and suddenly stop each time, saying me :
"Windows met a problem during the installation of the driver for your device"
Windows has found a driver for your device, but met a problem trying to install it"
Android ADB Interface
Specified file is unfound

I have the fastboot.exe file, adb.exe and all the others files in my sdk..
Please help me to solve this problem
Thx!!
Not sure what drivers you found, but the ones from this thread worked fine for me.
Just extract the zip somewhere and when prompted for a driver location, point it to that folder, don't complicate things by messing around with file swaps in the Android SDK folder.
Also, that guide is pretty much all you need, to get your bootloader unlocked.
hi
Thx a lot for your answer
I tryed another folder found on google yesterday and it works.
Files seems to be the same than yours so if i havent found yet and used these ones, it should have worked too.
Thk you, and have a good day.
Fabulous
HELLO.. can i ask for the link of where you downloaded the android_winusb.inf ?THanks
Hi
I seem to be having a problem rooting my Xperia Arc.
I'm trying to run : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320350&page=12
And first I got the error message : Adb out of date, but re-tried.
The second time I did it, I didn't get that message but now it just says waiting for device...
Nothing else happens - I have followed all the instructions and can't see anything wrong.
Any help appreciated...
Go to task manager on the PC and end any instance of adb, then try again.
If the above doesn't work just copy the
adb.exe
AdbWinApi.dll
AdbWinUsbApi.dll
From your adb folder and try again
Hi, thanks for the replies.
I tried killing the process but made no difference.
I went through and had another read around and followed the adb guide to make sure I had everything, downloaded things and tried again.
I now get a message adb is out of date, killing.
But then says Daemon started successfully, then does nothing.
I don't seem to have those files any you mentioned anywhere??
If you was following that thread you must have those files, also you must have adb SDK installed you are getting that error because the adb files in the link is different versions to what you have installed so just move the files named
I did it the other way and created files folder in program files\android\sdk with the files from the root package and put batch file in the main directory.
Sent from my LT15i using xda premium
Absolutely no idea then, It said it downloaded stuff, but no idea where it is. I have file searched but brings up nothing.
I do have the SDK yes, but there is no folder in there called usb or anything.
I'll try re-doing it all again from scratch, see if it makes any difference..

That's what I've been following.
Knightlore,
I seemed to have had the same problems as you. Much as I thought I was following instructions, I just couldn't get it to work.
One of the threads I was reading had a link to a flashtool thread(I can't easily link to it at the moment as not on computer). Anyway, it said that the Zergrush exploit was now in Flashtool, so I followed those instructions and it was really easy to root phone.
HTH.
I think it is this thread I followed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
Still encountering the same problem, I have re-done everything from scratch and I still get the same error. Anyone else got any ideas please?
I've managed to root all my other phones, but for some reason this just won't work...
Hey guys im trying to help my friend unlock his bootloader but cant find a working download for the fastboot drivers :/ literally tried about 15 different places and all of them used the same broken multiupload link :/
The driver file on the SE website should work.
Here is a direct link.
You need the Android SDK too.
If you like, I can upload my usb_driver folder when I get home this evening but I think it's worth installing the SDK for completeness.

Hi Folks
I'm sick of all the bloat-ware on my Sony Arc (Purchased last Aug). I've recently had the phone unlocked and for the life of me, I can't root the damn thing. I've spent the last few days, trawling through all the helpful posts on this site (very informative and top notch stuff), but no matter what I try, the links on the posts are either no longer valid, the exploits have now been patched or my firmware is not listed.
Please, please, please, can someone give me a "Dummie's Guide" on how to root my phone.
My Arc is running Version : 2.3.4, Build Number : 4.0.2.A.0.62
Incidentally, just in case anyone is wondering, if I switch the phone off, hold down the menu key and connect to the USB, my phone displays the little blue led.
The closest I've came to successfully rooting (from my numerous attempts on here) was a simple click systems screen by DoomLord. My phone seemed to take to the program and then rebooted fine, but it still wasn't rooted. I've enabled USB Debugging and enabled unknown sources, etc.
This is driving me crazy. Can anyone help, please?

Flash this kernel
http://icxperia.com/doomlord/arc/ask/ARC-Advanced-Stock-v01-boot.img
and have fun..
HOW TO FLASH
1) Open the fastboot folder (generally android-sdk\platform-tools\) and copy the downloaded file there (and better if you rename it to boot.img)
2) Press SHIFT key and right click on any blank part of the explorer window
3) Click on "Open Command Window Here"
4) On the command window type
Code:
fastboot.exe flash boot <kernel name>.img
Have fun..
Hit Thanks if I helped you
Hi now.i.feel
Problems with that too - when I click on your above link, it downloads as a Zip File to my lap-top's desktop and I then try to unzip it, but all I get is a window popping up which says this file cannot be unzipped or opened as it is not a valid Zip File???
I've tried to simply replace it in the "Fast Boot" folder on my desk top (replacing DoomLord's Zip File in there entitled LT15i_4.0.1.A.0.283_Generic_Global_system.img), but now the Command Window won't open???
What am I doing wrong?
Try to use flashtool.
You can find a download link of flashtool on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000012
After this, is just a matter of conect your fone to PC and push Root button.
.62 can't be rooted, you would either have to downgrade like it looks you have or flash a custom kernel like above.
Chances are that zip is actually made from flashtool, download it put the zip in its folder and change the extension to .ftf.
Edit: sorry blonde moment, download any kernel that has cwm, use fastboot boot boot.IMG then use doomlords zergrush script, that will install su and busybox for you.
Sent from my LT18i using XDA
PS. .62 FW CAN BE ROOTED WITH UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER
downgrading, flashing kernel , flashing prerooted roms is a long process and unecessary. You loose your data too.
fastest way (no data loss)
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Download root that supports install via recovery. put it in SD
3. Install CWM
4. Boot into recovery
5. Choose apply update from SD
6. Choose the zip and install it
7. Start up the phone and update the Superuser and SU binary
