Hi,
I am a proud owner of a HTC Desire HD mobile. It is on the mobile network Three (UK). When i power on the phone, i get a 3 welcome message. Does this mean my phone is branded?
I've been reading the how to guide on how to root the phone but i'm not 100% that i am able to root my phone. Guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377119
Does it matter what version of android, sense, the baseband, kernel, build or software version i'm running?
Android Version: 2.3.3
Sense Version: 2.1
Baseband version: 12.56.60.25U_26.09.04.28_M2
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.10-gd2564fb [email protected] #1
Build Number: 2.50.771.2 CL87995 release-keys
Software Number: 2.50.771.2
I have a mate with a HTC Desire S who has basically inspired me to root my phone because of his HTC Sense version. He had basically made an image of his phone before he rooted. Does the phone have to be rooted before i can make an exact image of my phone first and does rooting cause the risk of bricking or does changing roms cause the risk of bricking? Is there a tutorial on how to do this on a HTC Desire HD? Or can someone point me in the right direction?

Go to the dev section and read up on the advanced ace hack kit. It should let you know what you need to know. And yes, I would say your phone is branded. You will need to make a gold card. Plenty of guides here @ xda

It says in the 'Effen Manual' that AAHK automatically create a gold card?
'This hack-kit creates the goldcard automatically. Please do not try to make your own goldcard and do not stop the process once it starts. For support or any questions join us in IRC on Freenode at #liberatedAria or via the web: Web Chat'

Nothing is certain, but if you follow the instructions nothing should go wrong.
Device = rooted! Now need to make a backup of my ROM!
Backing up should be quite simple. Just install CWM and head into the CWM Recovery and choose backup.
CWM is automaticaly installed by aahk. So just disable fastboot, tun off you phone and boot into recovery (volume - + power).

Hi folks,
I am new here and i am interesting to here from you which rom is the best for you.(battery life,speed..etc).
Thanx a lot

That is up to. If I were you, I would try different Roms.
If you like Sense then the best are Android Revolution, LeeDroid HD and Core Droid.
If you like Stock Android, the best are Cyanogenmod 6 (Android 2.2) and Cyanogenmod 7 (Android 2.3).
But in the end it is up to you...
I know ..tnx man.

No problem mate.
If you are a newbie than you should use the Android Revolution HD because it is very close to the Stock Rom, it is fast, stable and has a good battery drain.

You have to start with downgrading to 1.32.. because the 1.7.. can't be permrooted and root is the basis for everthing:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
Then you can root with VISIONary+, make Radio/ENG S-OFF, flash a custom recovery...
here are complete guides for you:

If you have question then ask them in these threads.
okee, starting: installing .netframework 4 on my windows 7 USB debugging is checked.
IF you have a branded device, you have to make a Goldcard. Use "mmc2" instead of "mmc1"!!
uhm i dont have a branded device, like t-mobile right?
so i dont have to make a goldcard?
I did follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537&highlight=root as mention and it works greate. Can browse my local partition, install radio, ROM, full contole over my phones files....

Use some logic...the RUU file is an .exe, which is a Windows program. This would mean you have to run it on Windows. Then you'd be presented with instructions for the rest. Use a little common sense
why not try another custom rom . it's great fun

As above - it actually has full instructions while running the RUU.
but for basics you click something like 'I agree to return my phone back to the stock image, and confirm that I know it will wipe all user data etc. etc'
Then click accept to 'I agree that it must be above 50% battery life, and connected to the PC via USB cable' - then I think it verifies that it can find the phone, then says something about it will replace the current image with the stock image (2.29.405.5), then basically just says wait a couple of minutes, your phone reboots and flashes for a few minutes (I think with a big HTC logo and a progress bar), then when it's done it says DONE! and your phone reboots into the welcome wizard as if you turned it on for the first time...

EDIT: How do you get into the bootloader? Is it power+ volume down?
Yes.

If its running 2.2, chances are very high that you can root it with unrevoked. Make sure the hBOOT version is 0.93.xxxx

It will work. As long as the drivers required are properly installed. And you don't need s-off unless you are planning to change the boot partitions (eg. Change from Stock hBOOT to CM7r2 hBOOT to get more space for apps)
Sent from my HTC Original Desire using Tapatalk
If your still not 100% sure I don't think you should even try rooting your friends phone. You'll need the htc usb drivers installed on pc, make sure the htc sync apps is not installed.
Use unrevoked to root and install cwm recovery, from there you can install any of the great roms.

Please read the rooting faq in my signature. There's also a guide there which incorporates pre requisite information which (for some unknown reason) is missing from most other guides.
But read the faq too. It's not about blindly following steps. It's about understanding the process and what you are doing.

Well, I wrote this a couple of times and it gets more boring every time. Also, the link in Bortak's guide is not working so if someone needs it here you go:
-go to HTC developers site
http://htcdev.com/
-go to KERNEL SOURCE CODE section
-configure filter by DEVICE (choose Desire)
-mark OTHER below
-click on FIND FILES
-and there you go, the first file is 2.3 upgrade utility.
Not that hard?

You need to extract the exe from the file. The exe is buried two levels deep in a zip.Thereafter run the exe from PC with the phone connected. But before you run the RUU ensure your phone is stock hboot. If it is a alpharev hboot then flash the downgrader hboot from alpharev.nl. Thereafter the "unlock" will appear on bootloader. Then you can run the RUU. You will lose root and soff after RUU.
If you want to again root after this then you have to follow the steps given in revolutionary.io.

Temp root seems to be failing. That is usually due to a bad download and Antivirus or other soft eating the Zergrush file (used to temp root). check that in the tools/bin folder of the hack kit you have a file called zergrush. If that is not there, make sure that u disable all the protection software and then re download the Kit.
