[Q] Epic Rebirth 2.01 Gingerbread install instructions - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anybody have any install instructions on how to use IAP's EI22 Rebirth.gen2.0.1+Samurai_gen2.0.1 Kernel new Gingerbread rom?
I know how to do the CWM flashing etc.... but just wanted to make sure their install package didn't already include things like the EC05 to EI22 modem update etc..
(assuming I do have to do my own ECO5 to EI22 update, anybody have any comments on the "easy" version out there that you can do with CWM?
I really like the previous Rebirth Rom and look forward to this one.

Just wipe and flash as usual. Does not have eco5 to ei22 included. That is separate if you want it unless your already on ei22. Been running this rom with the 2.0.6 samurai kernel for almost a week, and no issues at all. Very good battery life as well!

EB13/EC05 and Midnight v5 ROM

Hi all quick question,
I am pretty new to this and by reading I have managed to sucessfully root and change Roms. This has been alot of fun and I am trying to understand the following changes to my phone after updating to the new Midnight v5 BYOR.
I had rooted with odin this
Stock EB13 Deodexed EXT4 + CW 3.0.0.6
I was running Nidnight 4.2 Standard
I flashed the new midNIGHT ROM v5 (BYOR Edition) EC05 NCIQ
everything seems to be working fine but when checking about phone it says the following;
2.2.1 Firmware
EB13 Baseband
2.6.32.9 Kernel version
Midnight v5BYOR
shouldnt I be on EC05 ?
and is this the correct kernel? (the v4.2 said Bonsai)
Thanks alot

EC05 Modem Package (Odin)
—Until the OTA hits the EC05 modem MUST BE ODIN’D.
—However, EC05 runs just fine on the EB13 modem as well
—EB13 ROMS run fine with the EC05 modem also.

Utterly Confused on how to Get EC05

Ok All I am getting really confused.
I want to update to the latest froyo and keep my root.
I would also like the latest radio, this all seems pretty damn easy however I read all these different ways but only if you have this version rom or radio, etc.
Do I need to use Odin to flash one of the many files I have found.
Do I use clockwork?
What about the radio, I have an old DK17 one.
This is my setup now:
Unlocked Epic
Froyo 2.2.1 - Epic Experience
radio - DK17
Hardware revision is 5
At this point I am willing to donate to get an answer,
Thx,
Force
Best bet is to post in the general section or Q&A next time, posting in development is a nono and will really only serve to get you flamed.
All custom ROMs available right now are based on EC05 so just flash one of them.

I am having a hard time finding a good custom rom that is based on this. I have a new custom rom loaded now and its not.
Also this still leaves the radio and how to update it.
Sorry about posting here, I didn't think this was a general topic as it deals with flashing & roms. But move it if necessary
Thx,
Force

Syndicate ROM Frozen by ACS is always a good decision. As for the modem update, it is either included in the ROM or you can find a flashable zip for it. I'm on the phone so I can't grab
a link for you, but I know it's around.
EDIT: found it, flash this with Odin and it will update your modem only.

Does EG22 and EH06 have the same Kernel?

Is the Kernel for EG22 the same as EH06 and would Chris' Kernel work for EH06?
I'm no expert, but I believe so.
Generaly, the way I understand it, a gingerbread kernel is a gingerbread kernal. As long as you are talking about the same android version it is usually OK.
Also, reference the ERA EH06 Unnamed rom (still in the works). The thread indicates that it uses the kernel that you are asking about.
I checked it out for myself. I'm running the EH06 deodexed rom with the EG22PLUS kernel right now. Have had a few startup issues but otherwise it works.
I may try flashing the EG22 hotspots hack as well.
EDIT- just installed the EG22 wireless hotspot. The flash worked, but I don't have a means to test it. No wifi devices around here.

Flashing a new ROM, with updates

Noob question. I have been searching threads and could not find an answer.
I've been running PH's Blazer ROM v1.6 LG2 with an LF9 modem about 4 weeks now. I am wanting to flash SS's Team VeNuM Odexed Blue ROM, which is currently in v1.4 as of 8/16, because I want to get a taste of an Odexed ROM AND - I like blue
Here's my question:
Do I need to flash the first version of the new ROM, after a full wipe of course, and then flash the most recent update - OR - Can I simply flash the most recent update ROM?
If I need to flash the original first, do I need to flash each update, in sequential order - or can I simply go to the most recent update?
My Sprint SGS3 is my first Android device, which means my first rooting experience, which means I'm currently residing in noobopolis. I appreciate the support from the members of this forum, and their appreciation and understanding of the naïveté of a rooting virgin.
BTW - I am running CWM 3.0.7 & have ODIN3 v3.04. Do either of those need to be updated, prior to flashing?

I see no reason why you would have to mess with CWM or ODIN... as for flashing a different ROM, just flash the newest version of it. V1.4 in this case. Flashing an old version and then every updated version after that would be pointless. New versions are typically issues as a full ROM. Unless for some odd reason the dev is issuing them as small updates and not the full ROM, and I've never seen anyone do that.
If you flash that ROM and later a new version comes out, you can just flash the new one on top of it. Your first flash with Team Venum ROM should be the newest version.
Thank you!

Wonderful, thank you! I figured that was the case, but when you're dealing with an expensive device I'm more confortable performing some due diligence first - especially when the consequence of not doing so can have such a negative impact. My SGS3 is a beautiful device (when outside of my Otter Box Defender), but I'd rather not use it as a paper weight....
Of course, it's always good to get your facts first. As long as you follow instructions you shouldn't have issues. Make sure the ROM is for your device, read comments so you know what to expect etc... Stay informed and you will do well.

Just finished flashing Odexed Blue v1.4, no problems at all. Went ahead and used Team Sonic's Modem Flash tool as well & updated to LG8 modem.
Titanium Backup was a life saver, love that app!

Questions for installing AOKP ROM?

Being completely new to all of this i dont want to brick my phone so please bare with me.
I want to install the AOKP Build 32 ROM on My E4GT and right now i have the FF18 baseband version and have Kernel Version: 3.0.15_AGAT-ged046f6-dirtyAGAT_vo.2.3#2 . I have AGAT_Recovery tREC_v0.2.1 as my recovery. I currently have the Black ROM installed on phone.
In QBKing77's video he says you have to instal the EL26 Kernel before you can install AOKP Build 32. in the installation video description for it says to install via CM7 or Flash EL26 Kernel so i click on that link and that video is how to install CM9 and in that video he says you cannot have an ICS based ROM only A GB based rom.
Im completely lost and have no clue what to do. I dont want to brick my phone. Any info or clearification would be great.

Mobile Odin el26, boot to recovery flash aokp... that's the 100% safe way... that said the kernel you're on should also be safe to flash from, but I personally prefer just mobile odining el26 still to be sure... read the stickies and the aokp dev thread
