Utterly Confused on how to Get EC05 - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok All I am getting really confused.
I want to update to the latest froyo and keep my root.
I would also like the latest radio, this all seems pretty damn easy however I read all these different ways but only if you have this version rom or radio, etc.
Do I need to use Odin to flash one of the many files I have found.
Do I use clockwork?
What about the radio, I have an old DK17 one.
This is my setup now:
Unlocked Epic
Froyo 2.2.1 - Epic Experience
radio - DK17
Hardware revision is 5
At this point I am willing to donate to get an answer,
Thx,
Force

Best bet is to post in the general section or Q&A next time, posting in development is a nono and will really only serve to get you flamed.
All custom ROMs available right now are based on EC05 so just flash one of them.

I am having a hard time finding a good custom rom that is based on this. I have a new custom rom loaded now and its not.
Also this still leaves the radio and how to update it.
Sorry about posting here, I didn't think this was a general topic as it deals with flashing & roms. But move it if necessary
Thx,
Force

Syndicate ROM Frozen by ACS is always a good decision. As for the modem update, it is either included in the ROM or you can find a flashable zip for it. I'm on the phone so I can't grab
a link for you, but I know it's around.
EDIT: found it, flash this with Odin and it will update your modem only.

How to Flash Back to 2.1 using a Macbook? + Other questions

Hey Guys, I'm new here and I'm sorry if this has been posted before...
I'm a noob when it comes to installing and flashing roms on phones. I downloaded the leaked version of Froyo to my Epic 4G and it as easy to install, although things are broken such as GPS and my questions are:
When the official OTA update comes out, Will I be able to update from DK28 to the Official version?
Also, How can I flash back to stock 2.1 using a Macbook? I know people use something called Odin for Windows, what about us Mac users?
Appreciated
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=801155 for mac "version" of odin.
If you want the OTA update you'll have to go back to DI18. Most people, including me, will wait for some of the devs on here to cook their ROMS with the new version once released (if ever).
Thanks man, and If I want to try other roms.. Can I easily install them using Odin in a PC or are there different methods for each rom?
Please post questions in Q&A section. Everyone please remember to click the "Report Post" button on the original post to have immediate action taken by the moderators. Also do not post in the thread itself telling the user that he made a mistake or broke a rule as it doesn't contribute to the thread and is unnecessary.

If all the ROM's you want to try are based on the same build (i.e. DK28, DI18, etc) then you won't use Odin or Heimdall. Custom ROM's are flashed from clockworkmod recovery. Be sure to take your time and read up on what you want to do before attempting. I'd suggest reading through the wiki and the other sticky's that will introduce you to the world of customizing your epic.

[Q] Midnight Rom data connectivity fix????

I appologize if this has been already answered. I did search around and couldnt find any threads related to this.
Does anyone know if the Midnight ROM has corrected the data connectivity issues that are present in the stock froyo build from samsung/sprint.

I am using the ROM and haven't experienced any issues what so ever.
Thanks.
I am currently running the stock froyo build from the Samsung site. Rooted and CW2 installed. Notice the problem when I am roaming using roam control. Data connectivity is intermittent. Hoping a custom rom is the way to go.
I am a little reluctant to go to the ext4 format. Will this prevent me from upgrading "official" froyo updates as they become availabe?

If you're running a custom rom then OTA updates will not come automatically.
Like when official froyo came out. After a few days the devs here had a tar file that included root and recovery. So using odin; i used that to get to the latest version provided by sprint (plus the extras I needed to run custom roms)
Then flashed my fav eb13 rom (eb13 being the version of official froyo from sprint for epic)
smooth sailing; as long as you read and familiarize before you just jump in. You'll know what to -not- do and what to do if something funky happens.
Good lock and happy romming!!
i am running midnight rom 4.1 and have no issues. if you are having issues i would suggest redoing it, not uncommon to have issues every now and then.

Flashing a new ROM, with updates

Noob question. I have been searching threads and could not find an answer.
I've been running PH's Blazer ROM v1.6 LG2 with an LF9 modem about 4 weeks now. I am wanting to flash SS's Team VeNuM Odexed Blue ROM, which is currently in v1.4 as of 8/16, because I want to get a taste of an Odexed ROM AND - I like blue
Here's my question:
Do I need to flash the first version of the new ROM, after a full wipe of course, and then flash the most recent update - OR - Can I simply flash the most recent update ROM?
If I need to flash the original first, do I need to flash each update, in sequential order - or can I simply go to the most recent update?
My Sprint SGS3 is my first Android device, which means my first rooting experience, which means I'm currently residing in noobopolis. I appreciate the support from the members of this forum, and their appreciation and understanding of the naïveté of a rooting virgin.
BTW - I am running CWM 3.0.7 & have ODIN3 v3.04. Do either of those need to be updated, prior to flashing?

I see no reason why you would have to mess with CWM or ODIN... as for flashing a different ROM, just flash the newest version of it. V1.4 in this case. Flashing an old version and then every updated version after that would be pointless. New versions are typically issues as a full ROM. Unless for some odd reason the dev is issuing them as small updates and not the full ROM, and I've never seen anyone do that.
If you flash that ROM and later a new version comes out, you can just flash the new one on top of it. Your first flash with Team Venum ROM should be the newest version.
Thank you!

Wonderful, thank you! I figured that was the case, but when you're dealing with an expensive device I'm more confortable performing some due diligence first - especially when the consequence of not doing so can have such a negative impact. My SGS3 is a beautiful device (when outside of my Otter Box Defender), but I'd rather not use it as a paper weight....
Of course, it's always good to get your facts first. As long as you follow instructions you shouldn't have issues. Make sure the ROM is for your device, read comments so you know what to expect etc... Stay informed and you will do well.

Just finished flashing Odexed Blue v1.4, no problems at all. Went ahead and used Team Sonic's Modem Flash tool as well & updated to LG8 modem.
Titanium Backup was a life saver, love that app!

Unable to Flash Custom Rom

About a month ago I had a Samsung Galaxy SIII Model # SPH-L710. I had little to no problem flashing a custom rom onto it by rooting the phone, installing TWRP, and installing the zip file from the Cyanogenmod Website. Very simple and painless. That phone however ended up breaking so I had to get a new one of the exact same model.
Now, I've been having a world of trouble with this one. To start when I tried to flash the ZIP file in TWRP, it would give me a status 7 error, I was able to remove that by updating my md4 baseband using the md4 baseband flashable zip which was mentioned in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2303308
Once I did that the status 7 error went away, but now it's saying it cannot find the md5 file regardless of what custom rom I'm trying to install, it does say the install was successful, but all the log shows is that it couldn't find md5 file and then Successfully created partition tables and when rebooting the phone it gets stuck on the splash screen (though it IS the splash screen of the custom rom I was trying to install).
When trying to use CWM it says that it cannot even mount the SD card to install and ZIP file so I could not go very far with it and besides, the last time I did this I used TWRP just fine.
Any insight would be great.
Thank you!

Is this a new device? If it is please reference this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44262749
Have a great day!
Also being a new device you will only be able to flash TW roms until there is a work around for the current block...which i do believe devs are working on as we speak. Good Luck.

TW roms? You mean Touchwiz? If so, I've tried Googling and can't seem to find a solid answer or source of what's stable, what I can use with the Sprint S3 and so on .

Tried all 4 provided .imgs without no success and tried the odin versions which gave me the same results. Seems like this has to do with it just being a new phone. I am able to gain root access, mount storage devices in twrp (but not CWM) but just can't seem to install CM nightly or stable. Just says its updating partition settings and thats it. Also says the same thing with AOKP roms.
CM and AOKP are all aosp style roms. They at this time will not work on a new S3.
Like stated only TouchWiz roms will work. There are literally dozens of them. Googling won't help as much as going directly to the forum for Sprint S3 d2spr development section here on XDA. Do not attempt to flash any rom TW or AOSP if you did not get it from that specific section on XDA you risk turning your device into a 600$ paperweight.
Have a great day!
I hope someone can help me. I have the boost mobile version of the galaxy s3 L710 and I was told I can only use sprint custom roms to flash on my device but when I do they don't seen to work properly. Data ect. I again was told I need to make some changes to my device and I can't seem to find out what these changes are. Any help?

#1 rule on XDA search. Search is your friend. You can search in a general forum or in a specific forum.

Thanks for the info I will surely try one out once I have the time(sometime tonight)
From what I'm reading there are no TW mods based off of 4.2.2? And I'm assuming that to get an aosp style rom to work will just be a matter of waiting on the devs? Thanks again
cm 10.2

Getting this phone in a few days

Alright, so I am going to be getting this phone in a few days. A guy is trading me his white S3 + $120 for my HTC One. I just wanted to know a few things. 1. he had it rooted but he unrooted it and I believe he is on the latest update, how can I root it back? 2. what's the latest update name? (MK3?) 3. Can I flash 4.4 roms on the latest update? 4. What kernels can be flashed on what radio? Or does it just matter which rom? Thanks

This thread will be the one you want for getting the phone rooted:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2596697
The OP, @goku2778, is very helpful and responsive.
As to your other concerns:
The latest update is MK3, which contains the Knox bootloader. However, Knox is only an issue if you try to use Odin to flash older firmware. You can flash any custom ROM you want-4.1.2, 4.3, 4.4. I highly recommend just being on the cutting edge and going with 4.4 KitKat. Carbon is phenomenal, as is CyanogenMod11. CyanFox is my other current favorite, but there is a lot of work being done by a lot of awesome devs and maintainers, so feel free to try a bunch to see what you like best! Kernels and radios are also like ROM's, in terms of you can safely flash any of the available kernels and any radio you desire to find the best ones for your personal use.
Once your phone arrives, feel free to PM me or post if you need any help or suggestions, there are a lot of helpful members cruising around on this forum!
