Hi
I was wondering if there is a way to factory reset my phone if i cannot go into recovery mode (i.e. if i hold down Vol. Down and boot, it shows the recovery thing for 1 second, then crashes and reboots into android). If i use the recovery from android it also reboots and tries to go into recovery, where it crashes.
So, is there any way to circumvent recovery? I can not attach the phone to a pc.

I don't mean to be rude, and any help is greatly appreciated, but please at least read my post before answering.
u said that u can't go into recovery
the option "factory reset" is in the bootloader menu..u can't boot into the bootloader???
in the wors case, flash an ruu
I'm sorry, i didn't know there was a difference. My bad.
No , I cannot go into the bootloader. Can i flash an ruu if i cannot connect my phone to the pc?
if ur phone is not branded by ur operator, u can flash the latest froyo ruu available by downloading this, rename it as PB99IMG.zip and put in the root of the sdcard (using a card reader with ur computer)
boot the phone in bootloader and hope that it not crash and start the update (it should start automatically)
if it crash before to start the update..i dont have other ideas..
anyway i never heard about a crashing bootloader..after what this start happening?
I will try, but i don't have much hope.
This is most probably the aftermath of my phone taking a trip to the bottom of a lake.
//edit: Sadly, I can't get your suggestion to work. The bootloader still crashes
First of all: If you have a crashed bootloader, the phone would do absolutely nothing. As long as you phone reacts, your bootloader is not crashed.
What do you mean with "it boots into android?" What happens next?
TouchPaled from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
Well, it boots into android as you would expect (i can use w-lan etc, surf the net, install aps...) as long as no sim card is inserted. I guess the radio is damaged so it crashes after putting in a pin when a sim card is in the phone.
Maybe the bootloader tries to access the radio too and that is why it crahes?
The phone also only works when plugged into the outlet, so the battery is probably damaged.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Did you root your phone? If not, just send it to HTC. You talking about a recovery, but not which type (stock or custom).

Hi guys:
I have this phone from about 10 months ago. I have always it rooted and with CyanogenMod, actually with CM7.
Today I was using my browser, and then it closed, the phone begin giving me a lot of errors, any application worked and I decided to reset it, because sometimes that work.
For my surprise, when I reseted it, It was bootlooping, It start booting (cyanogen logo doing circles), then freezes and then reset.
I know how to work with this problems and I reseted it on recovery and when I entered to the recovery everything seems to be fine, but I only see the menu, when I try to install zip from sd card, go to mount & stored, go to clear cache, or enable USB the screen just get empty but its ON.
Im very frustrated, I don't know how to proceed in this situation, I have looked in the Troubleshooting thread but have not found anything that worked for me with boot looping.
I hope someone can help me, sorry for my english, it's not my main language.
what button are you pressing to select the menus? Power?
Yes Im using power button.
Before I used the power button but now tried using the middle button and it worked.
Lets see if it recover correctly.
Yes because power button turns off the screen.
Uhm, long story short My Evo crapped out on me with the endless booting. Now before I get trolled. Yes, I have research this issue for several days now yielding little to no results. I went from only seeing a black screen to the constant reboot after the "drag to unlock screen". The phone has a mind of its own only working when ever it wants to. But after a reboot or a battery pull the cycle begins again until it decides that it wants to run again. So the cards are on the table, I'm up for any suggestions, tips and so what you want to throw at me.
What I've done:
flashing the RUU as a .exe as well as .zip file
OTA Update (gave me the black screen)
Thanks, Don
boot into recovery and wipe all the data then install the rom again?
Sorry, I forgot to mention that I was NOT rooted. But, I tried that through the stock recovery (holding volume down+ power through the recovery screen) ANd nothing. Same results. This phone will not defeat me!!
I don't know if this would help. I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302172
You could download the PC36IMG zip and use the bootloader to restore the phone.
If you are not on Sprint, you could do a search for a stock unrooted ROM for your carrier.
Ok if your not a rooted user, which as you say your not, hold your volume button down and power button (after you remove your battery and put it back in), then let go when your screen turns on. You should be at a recovery, find factory reset. All this will do is put your phone back to factory defaults. All your contacts are automatically on your gmail, and will sync to your phone as soon as you sign in with it after your factory reset

Tried this too. I ended up rooting it yesterday using the revolutionary method, hoping that flashing a custom rom could possibly fix the corrupted file or w.e could be causing this, but nothing. This is ridiculous, is it possible that it could be a hardware defect?? If I ever get it booted again, ill post the hardware specs.
Thanks once again,Don.
Update:
currently I managed to get Myn's twopointtwo ROM functioning properly for the time being at least.
Software:
android 2.2
baseband 2.15.00.05.02
kernel 2.6.32.17

Is your phone unlocked and rooted/s-off?
It will say so on that menu screen.

No I was getting ready to root it the day this started. Will rooting help this problem?
having CWM recovery on the device would help you clear the memory and load the OS easily. but that requires your device to be rooted.
whats strange about this case is that my understanding is that the OS is read only and the only thing that changes is data and user data held in a separate partition. so the 2 possibilities is that your user data is corrupted(probably due the space getting exhausted-were you getting a low space warning?) or less likely but possible-the OS corrupted in some way-perhaps from repeated reboots and phone use.
i guess if a factory reset isn't helping there is little i can suggest. that should do the trick if the OS isn;t corrupt because all it does is wipe away the user data so you can resetup the device as if you bought it brand new.
if you have an micro sd card in the device, try removing it. if that doesn;t work, try reformatting it and putting it back in.

This sounds quite a bit like an Inc I have lying on my shelf. It was a friend's and he gave it to me to see if I could fix it. As far as I can tell, the phone's emmc storage simply failed. These phones are aging and that happens sometimes. Anyway, I tried all the usual stuff, including running RUU's (flashing signed PB31IMG.zip's since the thing had never been rooted and was still s-on), and yeah, just boot looped.
I did get the phone working, but it was complicated and messy. Here's more or less what I did: I was able to successfully run the RUU that updates HBOOT to 1.02 (or 1.07, either one works), which allowed me to unlock the bootloader via HTCdev. (see one of the root / s-off guides if this doesn't make sense.) This made it possible to flash ClockworkMod recovery using fastboot, and boot into recovery. From there, I was able to get to a root shell through adb (plugged into my computer) and proceeded to downgrade and get s-off, following the guide. It now works, though it's running Froyo and there is hardly any space for apps due to the messed up storage. I've been wanting to try this hack on it but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
stuck in boot loop, keys dead
I have an HTC incredible. One day the power button decided to quit working. Everything else worked fine, except when the phone went to sleep, the only way to wake it up was to plug in the charger. That was all fine and dandy til I was using it one night to listen to TuneIn and forgot to shut it off. When I plugged in the charger the next morning, it went into boot loop. I can get it out of boot loop by holding the power and/or volume down buttons, but when the hboot (?) screen comes up, I am helpless to do anything, as the power and volume buttons are unresponsive. It is not recognized when I plug it into my laptop, either. For whatever it's worth, it does say "S-on" on the hboot screen, if that helps. Is it junk or fixable?

Sounds hosed to me. You could try to flash an RUU zip but that'd require use of the keys in HBOOT. If there is an RUU option that does not involve touching the phone, it's possible. Otherwise, no. I guess you could open the phone and check the button connections are there but it may be locking up at the HBOOT screen. Give it a chance to charge up a bit. However, I believe this phone is a lost cause. I seem to be seeing more frequent bootloop phone reports lately.

Warning/Disclaimer: This will erase everything you have on the phones internal memory. (if you have play store set up right, you can just log back in afterwards and it will pull all your data/apps back, however if you don't, make sure to backup any contacts, data, ect that may be on the phones storage before attempting this) (then again, if you were already trying to root, you should have had everything backed up already anyway )
Charge the device to at least 50% (or an hour or two at least if the battery was completely dead)
Hold the Volume Down Button, Press power button, keep holding the volume down button
Phone should boot into HBOOT or Download mode,
use the volume up and down buttons to highlight Recovery Mode
press power button to select Recovery Mode
Phone will reboot with a red triangle icon, press all three buttons at the SAME time (vol up, vol down, power)
use the volume up and down buttons to highlight Clear Data (Factory Reset) press power button to select, let it finish clearing /data/ and /cache/
Once this has completed, Pull the battery out, let it sit for like 30 seconds without the battery
Put battery back in
hold power button for a while until it vibrates, release power button
let it sit at the htc boot screen for 10 minutes phone should eventually move to the verizon boot screen (if it goes over 10 minutes on the htc screen, try procedure again)
Post here if you have any trouble.
Still have problems

i've done the procedure but unluckly i'm still having this problem, did someone fix the loop with this method? should i just wait for custom roms? :crying:
I had it happen to me after trying to root with just about every tool out there, mine would boot up but wouldn't go past the htc boot screen white background green htc. After I cleared the data a few times (at least 3) it came back up, try the procedure more than once. Also be patient and wait the full 10 minutes for it to come back up, sometimes it can be slow to load for the first time after this kind of wipe.

Try to root with "PhilZ Recovery by Ajit", search on google, i don't remember where i have download it, but it is an .exe file.
After you install it on your computer, you select USB debugging, and connect your phone to the computer, the rest of the process is auto.
After the installation process, the phone will autoreboot in recovery, here you will select ---> Advanced Function---> RE-root System (SuperSU).
After that, reboot, and install SuperSU from GooglePlay.
Success.
Root without boot loop (you may want to wipe Dalvid Cache before reboot after selecting root).
I hope this works for you ( it worked for me HTC desire 526g ).
Have a nice day.
IF you dont find the Philz, contact me, i wil send it to you.
Philz Recovery by ajit is designed for devices using the Mediatek processor; Sadly our 526 (no g, no +) uses a qualcomm processor. I do not recommend anyone to attempt to use "Philz recovery by Ajit" to attempt to root their HTC 526 as at best it will fail and at worse it will flash a non-compatible recovery and turn your device into a hard-brick.

My phone was also rooted using kingroot. I received an OTA update and I downloaded it. Once the download was complete, the phone restarted and got bootlooped. Occasionally, it goes into recovery. I tried factory resetting it several times as mentioned in the solution. But each time I turn the phone ON again after factory reset, it is looping. Its not stuck at the boot logo. Instead it reboots automatically and in some cases to recovery. So the wait-for-10-mins thing is not working for me.
1. I received a stock ROM from the Russian section of XDA. Will flashing that ROM using the stock recovery using "install update from SD card" help me recover my phone from bootloop?
2. Will flashing the stock ROM unroot the phone? Presently, even after the factory resetting, "check the software partition" option in recovery returns a message "error - system has root". So I was hoping that unroofing might fix the problem. Will it?
3. If the above method fails, is there any other method? Like flashing a custom recovery or flashing a custom ROM etc?
Please help me fix the phone. Thanks in advance.

Hey negomo. I just fixed the phone yesterday. It seems that installing an OTA update while the phone is rooted can result in a bootloop or bricking(as in my case). I fixed this issue by flashing a stock ROM of the HTC 526g which I got from another Russian forum in XDA. Anyway I am posting the link of that stock ROM here.
( I am not allowed to post link. So please delete the spaces to get the actual link)

Once you download it do the following procedure
1. Copy it to an SD card and insert the card in your phone.
2. Press power button+volume up key button to enter HBOOT menu (while turning on the phone, press power and vol up button instead of power button alone)
3. Choose recovery option and press volume down to enter
4. Press power button once to enter recovery
5. Choose "install update from SD card"
6. Wait till it finishes installation
7. Wipe cache
8. Reboot phone
PS: I had already done a factory reset from recovery menu. I don't know if that had helped.
This will bring your phone back to life. Give around 10 mins for the first boot.
I hope I was able to help you.
Hit thanks if I did.
