[Q] Factory Reset without recovery mode - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I was wondering if there is a way to factory reset my phone if i cannot go into recovery mode (i.e. if i hold down Vol. Down and boot, it shows the recovery thing for 1 second, then crashes and reboots into android). If i use the recovery from android it also reboots and tries to go into recovery, where it crashes.
So, is there any way to circumvent recovery? I can not attach the phone to a pc.

vol down + boot, then select factory reset

I don't mean to be rude, and any help is greatly appreciated, but please at least read my post before answering.

u said that u can't go into recovery
the option "factory reset" is in the bootloader menu..u can't boot into the bootloader???
in the wors case, flash an ruu

I'm sorry, i didn't know there was a difference. My bad.
No , I cannot go into the bootloader. Can i flash an ruu if i cannot connect my phone to the pc?

if ur phone is not branded by ur operator, u can flash the latest froyo ruu available by downloading this, rename it as PB99IMG.zip and put in the root of the sdcard (using a card reader with ur computer)
boot the phone in bootloader and hope that it not crash and start the update (it should start automatically)
if it crash before to start the update..i dont have other ideas..
anyway i never heard about a crashing bootloader..after what this start happening?

I will try, but i don't have much hope.
This is most probably the aftermath of my phone taking a trip to the bottom of a lake.
//edit: Sadly, I can't get your suggestion to work. The bootloader still crashes

First of all: If you have a crashed bootloader, the phone would do absolutely nothing. As long as you phone reacts, your bootloader is not crashed.
What do you mean with "it boots into android?" What happens next?
TouchPaled from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App

Well, it boots into android as you would expect (i can use w-lan etc, surf the net, install aps...) as long as no sim card is inserted. I guess the radio is damaged so it crashes after putting in a pin when a sim card is in the phone.
Maybe the bootloader tries to access the radio too and that is why it crahes?
The phone also only works when plugged into the outlet, so the battery is probably damaged.

Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A

Did you root your phone? If not, just send it to HTC. You talking about a recovery, but not which type (stock or custom).

Up for any suggestions/ help??

Uhm, long story short My Evo crapped out on me with the endless booting. Now before I get trolled. Yes, I have research this issue for several days now yielding little to no results. I went from only seeing a black screen to the constant reboot after the "drag to unlock screen". The phone has a mind of its own only working when ever it wants to. But after a reboot or a battery pull the cycle begins again until it decides that it wants to run again. So the cards are on the table, I'm up for any suggestions, tips and so what you want to throw at me.
What I've done:
flashing the RUU as a .exe as well as .zip file
OTA Update (gave me the black screen)
Thanks, Don
boot into recovery and wipe all the data then install the rom again?
Sorry, I forgot to mention that I was NOT rooted. But, I tried that through the stock recovery (holding volume down+ power through the recovery screen) ANd nothing. Same results. This phone will not defeat me!!
I don't know if this would help. I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302172
You could download the PC36IMG zip and use the bootloader to restore the phone.
If you are not on Sprint, you could do a search for a stock unrooted ROM for your carrier.
Ok if your not a rooted user, which as you say your not, hold your volume button down and power button (after you remove your battery and put it back in), then let go when your screen turns on. You should be at a recovery, find factory reset. All this will do is put your phone back to factory defaults. All your contacts are automatically on your gmail, and will sync to your phone as soon as you sign in with it after your factory reset

Tried this too. I ended up rooting it yesterday using the revolutionary method, hoping that flashing a custom rom could possibly fix the corrupted file or w.e could be causing this, but nothing. This is ridiculous, is it possible that it could be a hardware defect?? If I ever get it booted again, ill post the hardware specs.
Thanks once again,Don.
Update:
currently I managed to get Myn's twopointtwo ROM functioning properly for the time being at least.
Software:
android 2.2
baseband 2.15.00.05.02
kernel 2.6.32.17

[Q] stuck in HBOOT, S-On, unrooted, no buttons work

My little sister's G2 has been stuck at the hboot screen every time the phone boots. Her phone is completely stock, with the most recent (that I know of) update, the one in PC10IMG.zip. She didn't do anything to damage it at all, it just started booting like this out of the blue.
When at the hboot screen, no buttons work at all, the only way to get out of it is to do a battery pull. I even tried using ADB but it wouldn't detect the phone.
Any suggestions?
first thing i would try is to somehow wipe the phone... push power & volume down to enter bootloader; choose recovery (a red triangle or something like that should appear) then push power & volume up (the recovery menu should appear); then wipe everything...
if this doesn´t work post here again
EDIT: sry, just recognized that i didn´t read your post carefull enough... if your buttons do not work, you probably have to flash a RUU

i booted it with vol down+power, then i pushed vol up+power and it started searching for zips. I had pc10img on it and it found and tried to update with it, but it gave "main version is older! update fail! press power to reboot." and rebooting again brought me to the bootloader.
edit: i don't have any experience with ruu files, so if that's what i need to do, can you tell me how?
Search for a RUU which is similiar or higher than your actual version, download it and put it on your pc... on your phone push power & trakepad to enter fastboot mode, connect your phone with pc and start the .exe on your pc...
Before you do this remove the pc10img.zip from your sdcard and try what i posted before again...
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA

i tried doing this, but it failed, saying that my phone model wasn't right or something like that. but it did make the phone boot into the rom! and it appears to have all of its data still, hopefully everything works now.
rebooting will make the phone enter fastboot still. none of the ruu files i've tried work. is there a link to one that will work? i haven't found any.
ok, before you do the ruu thing, try to do a factory reset (either in the booted rom or through recovery)
here some links:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074391 (this is a pc10img.zip - you have to put it on your sdcard)
or
http://www.filefactory.com/f/b8dc837b1ed80be8/ (...all official ruu)
pls use the thanks button
htsger 3
i used the pc10img you linked me to. gives me: "main version is older! update fail!"
i tried the ruu files you linked me to and those failed as well. they kept telling me my phone image was wrong or something like that.

same error as above
I did some thinking and thought that getting it to boot by trying and failing to use an RUU, downgrading it, rooting it there, and then flashing another rom would solve my problems.
I managed to get to downgrading and rooting the phone, but after apparently flashing cwm through rom manager, I turned off the phone and tried to boot into recovery by vol down + power. Those are the buttons I use to boot my g2x into recovery, and through searching I didn't find any other combos for the g2.
That didn't work. I got sent to fastboot again, and no buttons work. I then tried RUU again, and this time it worked, booted. I turned it off and back on to see if it would actually load the rom this time. Alas, fastboot screen again. Still no working buttons.
I tried the PC10IMG.zip again. It flashed, but when it says <Press power to reboot> and I press power, I get sent to fastboot.
I pretty much consider this phone a lost cause, but if anyone has a suggestion that might help, please tell!
I can only tell you that I have same problem, just happened to me y/d and I am stuck on white HTC logo not having adb access and can not flash any stock rom for signature errors. not sure how to continue. thread is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614042, good luck for both to solve it

[Q] My Xperia S won't start up. (Expected to Have Bricked) Full story inside

Hello everyone. This is my first post here but I have been lingering around XDA particularly in Xperia S android development forum.
Today, I'm having a problem with my XS that it won't start up after i've done a few things related to installing new ROM in it. I'm not sure if it's bricked or anything but here's the full story and please tell me after reading:
My phone is as follows:
Xperia S
Unlocked Bootloader
Rooted
1) I was in my Recovery Mode (not TWRP as I was using a 4.1.2 JB ROM before) with a ROM installed.
2) Wiped Cache
3) Install ROM from SD Card
4) Successfully went through the ROM install wizard and installed it perfectly. I could've just used the ROM as usual but suddenly..
5) Then I went into Settings, I decided to do a Factory Reset (With wiping the internal storage too) <--- I thought doing this would only reset the current recently installed ROM and not wipe the ROM itself)
6) It reboots and bring me to the Recovery Mode page
7) I chose reboot my phone now option
8) It rebooted with the SONY logo on for a while
9) And then the triangle settings logo with a spanner and screwdriver logo show up. The screen stayed for a while like 20 seconds
10) And then it goes black..... and I can't get it start ever again (yet)
I don't know what on earth was I thinking doing a factory reset... that was dumb of me
That's how the story went... what should I do?
I've tried:
Holding the power button for 20 seconds(or longer), no vibrations, led or anything
Holding the vol up button for 20 seconds(or longer), no vibrations, led or anything
Holding both power+vol up button for 20 seconds(or longer), no vibrations, led or anything
Connecting the phone to laptop using USB to see if it is detected by my laptop but no nothing happened though (I did not press any button while connected)
Enter FLASHMODE using the proper way (using flashtool and everything) but fruitless
Charging so that the Red LED comes out when phone runs out battery and resetted. But so far still nothing (6 hours+ charging)
So at this point what has happened to my phone? Is this considered 'bricked'? Is it over for my phone now? Can I do anything to get it back running? Please help.
Thank you so much in advance for reading and helping me out.

No need to pay first try to hold the volume down button and then hold power button untill you go in bootloader after this connect the phone to a computer if your battery is empty the best way is to connect battery pack on the back side pins and try then go in bootloader but if your battery iss complete dead no solution you must to charge ytour phone but this can be done from bootloader with the bat file
EDIT: Next time when you are in trouble ask before discharge the phone
Have you flashed boot.img?
E: se this too

Hi disaster Again
the above problem i mentioned was solved, i could get my laptop to recognise the phone in ADB and i just had to enter the command adb reboot bootloader.
but now i have even bigger problem. i was running ARHD and everything was going fine unless i decided to upgrade to miui based on 4.4.4
so i went into fastboot by typing adb reboot bootloader and then flashed the boot.img of miui rom, then i pressed power down in fastboot thinking i'll connect and then go into recovery and then flash the zip of the rom
but now i cant get into either recovery or fastboot(bootloader) and neither my phone is recognised in adb.
please guys help me out.
Have you read this and followed all steps exactly?
Can you enter bootloader holding vol down and power button?
Do you have recovery on device?
See i cannot go into bootloader or recovery anyhow, yes i had recovery on my device by which i flashed the ARHD
i Flashed the boot image for the MIUI bases on 4.4.4 but now it doesnt boot up, neither i can nacces bootloader nor it is recognised by ADB

Stock Boot-Loop, out of options!

I was at work the night before, and my capacitive buttons stopped responding, so I went for a restart in hopes they would kick back on, this just caused my phone to enter a boot loop. Soft resetting and hard resetting both continue the loop, trying to enter recovery mode throws me back into the loop, entering download mode locks the phone on the small HTC screen. I tried to flash the current RUU onto the phone, but it won't proceed with the install due to a low main battery error despite the fact I've had it charging for 6 hours. The only thing I can think of doing now is sending it back in hopes they fix it, but theres a lot of information I ignorantly haven't backed up, and now can't access before sending it back.
If anyone has any helpful tips or ways to move forward I would be grateful.
you might be able to intervene in the process. when the phone restarts (ideally right after it restarts), hold Volume Down until the grey HTC logo appears, From here, you are in the download menu (or what is now basically the fastboot). If you are stock, you can unlock the bootloader if you havent already and flash a custom recovery (TWRP). Being in TWRP will give you USB access to your phone. And it will provide the ability to flash ROMs, including stock ROMs. Beyond that, you could always try a factory reset from either the download or the bootloader, but not much else I think you can do.
Someone might have more information than me though

Try the same thing, but this time with Volume Up, hold it until the FTM menu appears. From here, you should be able to access the bootloader.
If that also does not work holding Volume Up and Down at the same time takes you straight into the bootloader. Sadly, unless you are S-OFF, there is not a lot you can do from this menu. I dont think it accepts the fastboot commands, particularly fastboot flash commands. But if you can get into the bootloader, and then try each option, download, recovery, etc.
If you get into the recovery, it will be stock (unless you flashed a custom ROM). You have to press volume up twice to access the options, but if you get stuck, hold volume down and power and the touch keys on the bottom flash. After about 15 flashes the phone reboots.

Holding Volume up just continued the loop, I can get into the bootloader like you said, but theres not very many options, download locks the phone onto the HTC logo and doesn't proceed, the recovery option just restarts the phone into the loop.
Im afraid then, that I am out of suggestions for the time being.
Presumably your phone was charging whilst off, and not boot-looping?
Otherwise you can power down from the bootloader and try charging it. That may give you a better chance with the RUU

Mine does not charge either...and RUU does not work because of the battery < 30%
The funniest thing is that I've never touched this phone either (stock, no s-off, no unlock, no custom recovery, just updated via OTA to get Nougat), it just ran out of battery during the night and found the boot loop the morning after when I plugged it. My friends s7 completly bricked doing the N update. If you havnt done anything to your phone just take it back and get a new one.
Same exact issue here after the Verizon OTA update.
Failed after the first reboot after the update.
The storage was pretty maxed, wonder if that has something to do with it.
