I don't use the Music app extensively but from the few times I have, already got a couple of crashes. Definitely something dodgy going on.

This might be something to do with my problem using Adidas miCoach. It gives you voice updates every kilometre and the voice goes realllly slow and stuttery, used to work fine on my HTC Hero. The app uses the Music app I think because you pick a playlist from it.
It might be related? I will try to listen to some music and do other multitasking and report back.

Well I received my galaxy nexus today. Was syncing Google music and listening to music at the same time and it crashed. Had to remove the battery and power it on again . Not happy about this.
Never had this issue on my Nexus S!
Has this been reported to Google? If not we should report this so that they are aware of this and release a fix for it.

Thanks for confirming this.
my GN also clashes two times when running google music and going online.
Been happening to me all week. Press home and the launcher has crashed, or the phone is frozen. Eventually it comes back, but lots of crashes. I just reboot.
Its annoying but only happens at the end of my journey when i'm done listening to music so its bearable for now.
I just had another crash while listening to music and reading a post in tapatalk. Same deal as most of my other crashes. Some minimal corruption of the display and some small amount of time later the unit appears to turn off. Battery pull required.

It happened again this morning, but with Rhapsody's music app instead.
I actually was surfing this forum just to find that. I've had it happen twice in the last 3 days... really horribly loud screeching woke me up the first time. I don't think it's just slowdown, the screen showed small blue artifacts and other corruption and the audio started looping until it stopped at the screech.
Has anyone tried it while playing music directly from the phone instead of streaming?
This really sucks. I was so looking forward to installing Google Music on my new Galaxy Nexus (delivering Monday)..

Yes, this has happened to me while playing music stored on my phone for offline use on Google Music.

It didn't crash yesterday while playing offline music.
I've had this crash quite a lot whilst listening to music and reading on the Kindle app, and whilst music is planning and using navigation in the car. It's very very annoying. Especially whilst using navigation.

I think it's a third party app, apparently groupon is the main culprit but it could be any app check the permissions and see which ones control phone functions and freeze them one by one

Anyone having intermittent problems with video ..... even videos recorded on the GN ......
Getting a message after a few seconds 'sorry this video cannot be played'.
This is using stock player. First few seconds play fine. Try again later and they work ....
Try to kill the app or make a reboot and test it again.

I have the same issue with the stock video player. Using Dice Player now as it plays pretty much everything I throw at it. Hopefully an update should fix.

Exactly the same problem here, if you wait for all the video thumbnail pictures to refresh they play fine. Must be a bug in the stock video app. Like has been mentioned here in a previous post, dice player works great. Hopefully a software update will fix it soon

Hi there!
Well, got the note 2 (n7100) last week and I'm really amazed with it! But unfortunately I got this issue, every time I'm listening to music and the
screen turns off the music starts to gag (or lag/stutter...) after a min or so, as if it was a “slow” phone that couldn’t manage a simple task of playing music…
I have the unlock version, stock ROM and the music player is also the stock one. Any ideas of what can be? How to solve it?
Thank you!
I encountered this problem once too.
I restarted and was fine.

Hi!
That worked but the problem was coming back after a while...I also suspected that I should transfer all music files to the internal SD instead of playing from the external one...I'm trying that now and let's see how it goes from now on!
Thank you!

Nop...I still have the same problem!
Phone goes into standby mode and one or 2 min after music start and stops. The only way to get it to play it well is to hit the power button (getting the screen on).
I moved musics from external to internal and reboot the phone...what can I do more? Restore it to factory??
Need help...this issue is really anoyng as I really like to hear music on my phone and I can't... :crying:
Thank you!!
I have the same problem as well. I can't imagine a quad core cpu should have problems decoding an mp3. I am praying that it will be fixed in 4.1.2.
I tried using a different player but it had the same problem.

I have been having his problem as well. I have tried different music players too. installed different ROMS: The one that solved this problem for me is poweramp (u need to buy it after 14 day trial). Try poweramp, but change the music buffer size to 750ms. This solves the problem for me. But it is just stupid that u need to buy a third party software to sort this issue after buying such an expensive phone.. Do tell me if this solves the issue or not plz thanks
Hi there,
I've got an annoying issue with my S3 with any player I use. The music stops playing at some point. It could be either after 3 min or 27 min with headset plugged in or not.
I've checked everywhere and 've seen a lot of people with the same problem but none of them has a proper fix.
I am running stock JB, Canadian Bell version, no root, no flash or any of these.
I didn't activate any motion option or fancy way to stop the player. When I receive a notification of all kind while listening, the player just stops for half a sec and then resume, I believe it is the way it should work.
I would much appreciate some help coz it drives me crazy.
By the way, happy new Year!

I have had a similar problem with my phone ever since I switched to JB. My problem was that once the screen turned off, the player would stop, or stop once the song ends and not start the next song. I did not have this problem with ICS.
For me, I was able to fix it by going into the music app setting and unchecking the box for the screen automatically turning off during music play. However, if I turn the screen off manually the music will stop again either right away or at the end of the song. For now I'm OK just leaving the screen on since I charge the phone when I'm streaming music in the car.
Idk if this will help you or not.

had a friend that was using go locker, when the phone fell to sleep, within a few minutes the music would stop. disabling and renabling go locker fixed it. this phone was not rooted.
I tried disable/enable and uninstall /reinstall and no luck. But, I figured it out that it was due to Juice Defender settings and adjusted them and now Pandora will play when the screen is off.

Well you said you have no motions enabled but just throwing this out there you can turn over to mute/pause under motion control. I don't see how this could be a hardware problem so if you reinstalled stock it shouldn't be happening. If it's not your software then the only thing I could imagine is the encoding of your files. I know from experience that some MP4s from iTunes don't work. idk why.
Hi,
We guys don't seem to have same problem.
Music doesn't stop when screen's off. It just stops randomly.

What are you playing music with? (I'm assuming whatever media player comes with stock, but I could be wrong.)
What else do you have running on your phone right now?
I first used the stock media player then tried winamp and now poweramp.
Same problem with any of these.
There is always a lot of apps running in background such as bloat, mail, fb, rss reader, games....
I don't use task killers. I have GSam battery monitor and juice defender.
But as far as I know they don't kill running apps, unless i'm mistaken.

I think we have an answer, folks.
I would suggest going back to basics. There might be some debris in your headphone jack that shorts the "Pause" action. I would blow some compressed air in there, just in case.
Also, didn't S Voice or something have a command to Pause/Play? Maybe you have that on and through casual conversation S Voice is picking it up as Pause?
Thanks for your advise.
Blew some air but just in case but nothing.
S Voice cmd isn't active, I had already turn that off.
I think I'll do a factory reset and see if it fixes it.

I have had this problem off and on ever since I got the phone. It usually happens when I am listening to music and listening to the coaching from my running app (Endomondo Pro). They both work fine for a while then randomly one or both will stop playing through the headphones. I have tried a factory reset multiple times and nothing completely stops this.
Ok
Basically I don't need to bother to do so. Coz to be honest it's a pain in the a.. to do it.
Don't know what to do to fix this.

My PowerAmp developed a similar problem out of the blue just today or within the last few days.
JB 4.1.1 Ultimatum ROM.
Was working fine.
Then noticed it would stop playing after just five seconds, repeatedly.
I uninstalled.
Wiped Cache & Davlik.
Reinstalled and so far, so good. No more problems yet.
Pandora did not have any problems before or after.
Nope, n/m.
As soon as I hooked it up to my dock with DIY USB-OTG cable, PowerAmp started stopping/starting again.
Could be JB or any dozen other things, including my DIY cable.
I'll have to t/s some more.

As I said here:
You are running JuiceDefender.
Someone else in the thread with the same problem was running JuiceDefender.
Said someone else was able to make the problem go away by tinkering with JuiceDefender settings.
Could that possibly be the source of the problem, and a possible solution?
And as I said : we guys don't seem to have the same problem.
My player doesn't stop when screen goes black. My player stops randomly that's it.
He wanted to listen to internet radio while screen's off and just needed to set juice defender properly.
Anyway

If a specific program you're using is causing a similar issue to the one you're experiencing with other users, is it not worth taking a similar approach to solving the problem? If you don't have a sense of what settings in that program might be causing issues, then just stop the program running for a while and see if the problem goes away.
Likewise, if it's something else on your phone causing issues, stop other programs you might be running from running one by one and see if/when the problem goes away.

Umm, I am a she, not a he .
When I researched further, it was Juice Defender turning off the cellular raido that was causing the problem. The screen was a coincidence.
It wouldn't hurt to turn Juice Defender off and see if it still happens, just to rule that out. That way you would know for sure it is something else.
My set up is the same as yours, stock phone (can't remember if you are using ICS or JB), with Juice Defender and GSam Battery Monitor.
I ended up just turning Juice Defender off and putting it on power saving mode and honestly I haven't noticed a difference in performance, and I'm having better battery life than with Juice Defender. I'm getting average 23 hours on a charge and I'm using it a lot (although it does get charged in my car when I'm streaming music). With Juice Defender I was getting average 17 hours on a charge with using it a lot.
Sorry about that!
I did try that already but didn't change a thing.
I think I'll consider rooting it and flashing it.

NOT SOLVED YET
Recently I have been having a problem with my gs3 (d2att version). For some reason whenever I have headphones plugged in and I play music, my sound stops for a brief second whenever I touch the screen. It sort of turns off back on very briefly but its incredibly annoying. It first happened on Carbon ROM 1.5 and then I installed CyanogenMod Nightlies and it happened right after the fresh boot, now I tried Liquid Smooth Stable. They all are doing it. It happens whenever I open apps or like the app drawer or anything in the browser. It doesn't always happen, like when I press the keys on the keyboard it doesn't do it.
Is this a 4.2.2 problem? I feel I would have seen more if that's it. Also I have tried multiple music apps (apollo Google music and one more) and multiple head phones and aux cables.
Please let me know if anyone has any way to fix this or needs more information to solve this. Thanks.

Not entirely. If you have touch sounds and play certain sounds like volume changing and notifications still cause it to crack. Even if you disable every sound under the sound menu you will hit the crackle every now and then.
EDIT: it works on tasks AOKP of you disable touch sound, doesn't work on Cyanogenmod
