Battery looks like it expanded inside.. - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Quick question, I've got a bricked evo that I have'nt touched in months. The battery has been useless inside the phone's box since then but a couple of days ago I noticed the battery looks like it expanded or exploded from the inside. Any idea of what could of caused this?
Very curious.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium

If it was never charged for a while and left on a cool environment I would say that the battery was just bad, if you had it on a hot place like on the glove compartment inside your car then it overheated. Either way I hope you discard it.

Any lump on a battery means you need to dispose of it..I've heard of some crazy stuff lol.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium

Dispose of it immediately. If you try to use it or charge it, it will likely explode.

Oh I would never attempt to use it again, I was just a little curious as to why this would happen. Thanks all!

Crossing over to the dark side

Well I have been working on getting a new job, which is why I have been away recently. And with the new job come a new iPhone 4S and iPad 2. This will be the first time I have ever played with apple products for an extended period. So I am looking forward to trying something new. But from the little I have played with them both I really wish it were a pair of android devices.
I will be the first to say congrats on a new job in this tough economy. I am sure it will be fun and from the sounds of it rewarding too.
On my Epic mobile phone.
This is a good ipad 2 video.

We need a way to install android on apples devices.
What's your new job?

their hardware is great. The only thing that gets me is the locked down OS. Do you plan on jailbreaking either one?

And then a little late you will wish that Android has that one app you have on your I pad/phone. It won't be enough to make you like ios better, but it certainly will annoy you. And by you I mean me lol

The iPhone 4 took a year and a half for untethered jailbreak for the most recent ios. To me, that is unacceptable. I hope you're making lots of money because the app store will certainly be taking lots of it. One suggestion i will make to anyone with that phone is, go to best buy and get the mophie juicepack plus. It's $100, but it's a good case with a 2000ma battery built in to complement the phone battery. Keep the switch on all the time to top off charge the phone battery all day. If you notice the battery percentage dropping but it still has the plug icon on the battery, turn the switch off then on and that will fix it. You might think that a hundred is crazy to pay for a case/battery. Let me put it to you this way, you can hammer on the phone all day and night with heavy everything usage and the phone will not go dead. Games, internet, streaming, videos, movies, whatever, you will be hard pressed to have the phone die on you. It makes the phone bigger and heavier but with 19 hours on and using the phone a lot and still have 40-60% battery left, that's pretty awesome in my book. That setup puts our extended life replacement batteries to shame!

You'll get longer battery run time if you let the mophie top off charge the already charged phone battery all day. If you do it like it is explained in the video, your run times between charges will be less.

Most definitely. It looks like the jailbreak will be released in about a week. That is about the time I get my devices so it should be good timing.

Fortunately it looks like a jailbreak will be released before I get the devices. Also since this is for work there are only a couple of apps that I will need. I will still have my beloved E4GT for all the fun stuff. And thanks for the advice. I will check that out.

My friend has that snap on battery case on his iPhone. He said he can't get through the day on the iPhone battery alone (funny my ET4g can) he loves the fact that it has a micro USB port to charge so he can use my charger or anyone else's, when he needs it. The case does look like a good case for the phone, I'd get one if they made one for mineo

Hard Bricked my Epic

It fell out of my pocket and now it won't show any signs of life, any ways to revive it? I can't replace it for a week so i'd rather not be without a phone for that long. It's probably a hardware issue and there's nothing i can do, but i thought i would ask.
Although after dropping my last one 30 feet and surviving; this one can't survive a quick 3 foot drop, lame.

Spend the 20 bucks or so on the kit from Radio Shack. The little guitar pick thing makes taking it apart so much easier. Its worth the investment.

Well it hasn't been working since last night whether the phone is hot or cold but I'm still going t clean it. I'm hoping just the sticky left over apple juice is causing the short and cleaning it will work it out

there is just to much everywere. would it be overkill if I let the mainboard and the case (minus the battery) soak in alcohol for like 10 to 20 minutes and then blow dry them?
Probably
With electronics, usually bute force isnt the name of the game..

hmm well I just dabbed little drops of alcohol on the internal parts and were the apple juice was and blew it out with canned, and I'm going to let it dry now for a while before I put it back together.
Alright it is dead the accelerometer and the light sensor are not working even after cleaning. Anybody have a doner phone? Ha ha

I already tried they wont let me. but something else that's weird, I thought maybe restoring back to stock might work if its something software related to I tried restoring to zv7 with the link in the IRC using lgnpst and lgnpst is not flashing the bootloader or anything for that matter. any ideas why? I can get the phone in download mode and lgnpst does its regular thing, the phone reboots at 67% like normal, then it sits at the 4g LTE logo on the boot animation until it overheats and shuts off. I tried getting into the bootloader and it will not show it. if I hold vol up+vol down+power, it just goes straight to the boot animation from a cold start.

"Charging temporarily stopped"

Hey, my phone died and I put it on my charger before I left to run to the store. When I came back, the phone was RIDICULOUSLY hot and it prompted on the screen "Charging temporarily stopped due to high temperature." I unplugged the phone, cooled it off with a frozen pack of Bacon (bacon is good for ANYTHING Lol) and powered it back on and plugged it into the charger. I plugged the charger into a different socket because I'm pretty sure the socket I was in was overheating my phone. Well, that mixed with the fact that I had on an Otterbox and it was sitting on a microfiber couch Lol. I'm currently on the stock ROM over clocked to 1.7

Well then..just run it like you stole it! It's happened to a few people but I haven't heard if its caused long term effects. The otterbox shouldn't contribute much to the heat.

Water in Cameras and USB port!!!

Left phone outside last night and woke up with it pouring rain. Needless to say water got in the phone. Both camera are water logged now and the usb port is acting up saying its on charger when its not. Anybody have any ideas to maybe get the water out quicker besides rice in a bowl trick. Thanks

Ouch dude. I'm sorry that happened...I would be crying if that happened to me. It sounds like a lot of water is inside the phone and would take quiet a while for the rice to do its job. Make sure to not keep the device powered on. Remove the battery ASAP and then toss the phone in a bag of rice and let it sit for a few days. You could try setting it in front of a fan too for a few hours/days. I'm surprised the phone didn't short out yet.

Front camera is still shot and usb port damaged i guess it charges but even when i unplug it it still says its charging but battery level keeps going lower not higher. I guess i will give it a few more days then get it repaired if needed. Tried to open the phone myself and got every screw out but the one on the side and just my luck it stripped so needless to say I couldn't get the back off without breaking it...go figure!!!!

Keeping the phone powered on and trying to charge it was by far the worst thing to do. You should have removed the battery right when you got it from outside and put it into rice or let it air-dry for a long time. Obviously it's too late now but for the future just remember that for any of your electronics.
Sucks about the stripped screw. Been there done that lots of times. Those kinds of screws require a really good screwdriver.
