Could someone please give an idea of what the email client on the GN can do? I'm on the SGS2 at the moment and, while not perfect, the built in email client allows to search the server and control the sync via schedules.
Is the Email on the Galaxy Nexus just like the AOSP 2.3 version, are there any enhancements, does it have issues with wake locks?
TIA
I use it to connect to my exchange server at work. It seems the same as the 2.3 app except it has a white instead of black theme. I haven't noticed any other differences. And yes you can set the check frequency to your liking.

Thanks. Can it search emails that have NOT been synced to your device? And can you tell it to push Mo - Fr 07:00 - 23:00 and do manual pull the rest of the time?
TIA
Nope.
If I needed those features, i would use Touchdown.

Yes, I have bought touchdown but sadly it supports push on ONE account only which is unacceptable to me. I need to receive push emails from several businesses and would prefer not to forward them into a single mailbox....

Hey.
I have just got this awesome phone.
But I can't find a way to sync my facebook contracts with google contracts. Is there anybody who can tell me how to do that.?

You can't. The app doesn't support it. The only contact sync that works is Google+ out of the box.
Okay thanks for the answer. Hope that they will change that soon

That's all up to Facebook. Hopefully they add it back in. The API is available for them to do so in a new version of the app. Google isn't restricting them or anything.
Friendcaster app can sync with the people app in ICS.. But the photo are not high definition!
Nexus devices have always had this feature excluded.

No they have not. I can sync just fine on my Nexus One. Also, it's not that the feature was excluded. Facebook used to have a backdoor API that allowed them to sync in Android that other developers couldn't use. Google removed it in the newer versions of Android. This means that for it to keep working, Facebook would have to update their app to use the public API for contact syncing (that's been there the whole time) and allow the user more control of their own info. They have not done so.
It's Facebook's app that's the problem here. It's nothing specific to the Nexus devices in general. You just notice it more in Nexus devices because they don't have manufacturer created Facebook apps (i.e. HTC's custom made FB app that syncs properly).
I liked the stock email app on the galaxy S2, I figured that once I got my s3 that email would be similar, but it's not, it is much much worse. Is there any way to install the old mail app from the S2 on the S3?
I have tried the alternative email programs from the play store and I just don't like them.
Please help!
Thanks a million.
Enhanced Email...
I may not be correct, but.... I believe the GS2 used an email program built by Seven.
You may look and find an apk for Seven email+IM that should be similar. I personally cannot find a download link for it.
If you go their website, they do have a BETA Android program. http://community.seven.com/download.php Again, not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but may be worth a shot.
Edit: It appears they abandoned Android in the last year or something and the only client they currently are shown as making is the one for Hotmail's Android client. Sorry.

Another recommendation...
K-9 Mail is IMO a good email client. I don't know if it's one of the alternatives you tried and didn't like.
It's larger that Enhanced Email, but cheaper... (free)...
I'm new or I'd post a link to the Play store.
(I have no affiliation with K-9 Mail whatsoever.)

I'm going to try and push the SGS2 email.apk and exchange.apk later this evening. Please feel free to try it first if you have access.
I have been using Secure9 Mail for 6 months. And it has built-in encryption (if you want to use it).

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I've tried all the free email apps on the play store and none of them really did it for me. Finally tried enhanced email too and that is a step in the right direction, hopefully I don't have any troubles from it.
p.s. I have the Gmail app, but I need to access my work email somehow.
Try touchdown by nitrodesk. It's one of the best

Only one I found I liked was Inomail,
What about the AOSP Google email? I think it looks great and works very well.
yea if you need to check an exchange acct at work I usually go between nitrodesk touchdown and moxier mail. One of those should be perfect for you I prefer touchdown really.
What is it about the stock SGS3 email app that you don't like?

do you have the apks for AOSP?
the rom NoAOSP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1759245
uses the email client from google nexus; a user there said it was the only email client they've used on the S3 that allowed them to connect to their work email.
perhaps download that rom, open the zip with 7zip and pull out the email.apk and put it on your phone.
try to install it normally, if not you may have to copy it to system/app with root explorer (reboot afterwards)
might be worth a look

In the SGS2 email you could make it inverted and control font size from the app.
I pushed the old app every way i could. No joy. May try a flashable zip, but I can't see that making much difference... I guess it would have to be ported.
What email apps are Nexus 7 owners using?
I cannot figure out how to get Nexus to auto-complete email addresses in the stock email app for either gmail or a non-gmail account. is this justmissing or do I need to turn something on?
Any alternatives?
I use mail droid. It has a free and a paid option. Best ive tried so far.

AquaMail Pro. I must have tried them all, but this one is the nicest in my opinion!

Do any of these do IMAP search on server?
I use Gmail, it auto-completes anything I have in contacts. I use to hate gmail on a mobile device, but I like it on the N7 better than K9, which I was using.
I use K9 on my Nexus 7, not perfect by any means, but, far better than the stock email client. I had problems with attachments using the stock email client.
With K9, I can open, save, view attachments etc., which is what I wanted.
Still searching for a better one ...............
Gmail has everything I need.
Yeah, I'm thinking of adding K9, it actually attaches and opens zip files as well as anything else you want to throw at it. Gmail sucks with attachments.

Just tried k9 on my n7 and works great. Much more configurable than gmail. Just needs an on screen send button and it'd be perfect.
Edit: Found great app for a home screen shortcut to compose new mail, works with k9 or gmail.

I use stock gmail for my gmail and nitrodesk touchdown for exchange. I don't have a problem running 2 different apps for 2 different accounts.
Enhanced e-mail is an app that is close to the standard email app in Android 4.2.1. It has more options.
I use it because this app has an option to synchronize the trash.
Emptying the thrash by selecting messages one by one is no longer needed.

So, is there any way we can install the HTC mail app on our Galaxy Nexus ? I love that mail client and i would use it on my nexus also.
I guess it requires htc sense framework, so most probably no.
If this is not possible, what is the best mail client ? The default one is horrible
K9 was a really popular one last time I needed an alternative to stock

Mail clients on Android are pretty terrible. You've either got the choice of equally bad open source clients like K-9, or ad-ridden clients like Aqua Mail or Maildroid that require a payment to get the pro version.
I stick to the default mail client because it works fine for me despite being kinda crappy.
Everything is crap. Only the HTC one was ok for me... Isnt there any way to port it ?

What's wrong with the nexus default? I use both accounts and constantly get mail almost every minute on of them. Gmail is the one pissed about, its slow and unreliable most times.

The HTC one has some excellent features which you just don't get on the defaut client, like the ability to see all emails from all folders and all accounts in one pot.. That would be the main selling point for me!, is there a paid for client that can do that?

Ok, so ever since kit kat update, the stock email app has become completely useless. The drag and drop feature has been removed and now I cannot delete not move my emails.
My question is what alternatives are worth looking into. I'm dabbling with Aquamail, but it is so focused on multiple accounts that it's features are driving me crazy. Is there anything out there that can match the old stock email app or should I give up on managing my email on my tablet?

Woops, I never got notified of this post. My issue with the notification settings was that K9 would never do bulk notifications, only notifications for each and every single email, which drove me nuts.
