Ok, so ever since kit kat update, the stock email app has become completely useless. The drag and drop feature has been removed and now I cannot delete not move my emails.
My question is what alternatives are worth looking into. I'm dabbling with Aquamail, but it is so focused on multiple accounts that it's features are driving me crazy. Is there anything out there that can match the old stock email app or should I give up on managing my email on my tablet?

Thanks. I've used K-9 in the past. I hadn't heard many good comments when I checked last. Have they made some improvements? Can you finally change the messed up notification settings?

I'm not sure what you mean by messed up notification settings, but k9 provides the standard notification options. I get sound, vibration and led notifications without problems.

Woops, I never got notified of this post. My issue with the notification settings was that K9 would never do bulk notifications, only notifications for each and every single email, which drove me nuts.
Gahhhh, if only Google hadn't ruined the email app...

Anyone know how to import or access gmail.contacts on nexus 7 2013 flo? Even though it is not a phone, I still need contacts and can't access the gmail contacts.

So far, the other 2 Android phones I have had did NOT support this, and it really sucked, and I am hoping that this Inc2 is different, but so far I don't think so.
When I have exchange setup on my phone, and get a notification about a new email, but then read the email in Outlook, the notification never goes away. So far, I have found NO way for this to get fixed other than to use Touchdown (which I will not be doing). How can this really be something Google cannot code into Android? Has anyone figured out ANY way to get this to work like the Gmail notifications?

Is anyone else annoyed that you can't send a contact from the stock SMS app? I love the standard SMS but yet have to have a third party SMS app installed just for this purpose. From the stock SMS you can attach a few things but not a contact. And even from the phone app you can send but through email...not SMS.
Nothing major...just felt like griping about something I guess.
On a side note android keeps getting better and better. I don't see myself even going back to a non nexus phone!

I totally agree it's silly this is not factory android option. I can tell this is a general complaint and you weren't really looking for an app, but check this out:
share contracts via sms
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=shareContacts.NS.com
it's not really an "app" it just adds the menu option to share contracts thru messaging app. you still use stock messaging. I have used this since froyo days. it's super lightweight, you'll hardly notice it's even there...

Yup, I've been shocked time and time again that it hasn't already been added since I first started using Android with Froyo.
Which is weird if you've been using dumbphones for the last 15 years I think most of them could do this.

Can't get reminders to notify, either in notification bar, LED or alert tone. They show up in Google Now after time expires but don't seem to interface with the device OS. Running pure stock, s-on. Any fix for this?

i would check your setting inside your settings for your notifications and make sure that reminders are set to ON. Don't know if you are, but try doing a reminder in the calendar app. Also, try different ways, like hourly, daily, specific times. See if any of that works.
All settings have been checked thoroughly. The problem is exclusively with Google Now. Others have also reported this problem with the HTC One and other devices. Just haven't seen any fixes or explanations for this issue yet.

Is this feature working normally for anyone? If the problem I've described is uncommon, I may do a factory reset. Thanks!

I'm using Google calendar app. I wonder if that conflicts with the HTC calendar app and stops reminders. Anyone using both and still getting Google Now reminders to fire off correctly?

I use google now reminders probably 15 times a day. Never missed a single one. I also use google calendar for some things, but not necessarily for the same reminder.
Thanks. Keeping fingers crossed that 4.3 fixes this. I'd really like the functionality. May need to factory reset (PITA).

I've had issues from time to time with Google now. It will be streaky. Sometimes I can go about having a full week where it will remind me to leave for an appointment about 1-2 hours too late. Or sports scores are severely delayed. (1-2 days)
This has happened to me on a variety of devices. Nexus or not. And I do nothing to fix it. It just seems to fix itself. I figure it's just a weird glitch/bug in the server side with google.
Ok I change my earlier comment. It happened to me today. I never got a reminder I had set earlier

Basically, if you can't rely on every pre-set reminder to notify you, you can't rely on any reminders.

Yep. I no longer trust it. Doesn't really matter though since it is not working at all. I set reminders for 8 straight 1/2 hour time frames today and was not notified of any. Yes, all my settings are correct. I can see them in google now but nothing shows up otherwise.
OK. Problem is now, apparently, fixed. I uninstalled Google Calendar app and set up the built-in HTC calendar app to sync with my Google calendar. Also made sure notifications were on in settings. Took a while, for some reason, but now both time and location-based reminders are coming through for the first time: alarm, LED flashing and notification bar icon (finger with bow tied on it). Clearly, the problem was conflict between Google calendar (a somewhat better app in my opinion) and the one that comes with the device.

I assure you it had nothing to do with Google calendar app. Mine has not worked at all for a couple of days and I was testing it all day and night. All of a sudden it started working late this afternoon without me changing anything. This was on Googles end.
I think you are exactly right.

.... you can change your SMS sounds in the Sounds menu in Settings... As for the e-mail notification sound, that should be somewhere in your e-mail app's settings.
Thanks, I'll look in there while I have this post pulled up
Ok it works if I use the email app to set up Gmail, but can I change the sound in Gmail on the phone? I'm looking right now
Never mind I found that in the gmail app. if you want to reach through the computer screen and Gibbs smack me for asking before looking feel free to do so

I'll put a shout out for Light Flow. It lets you customize notifications in a very detailed way. It started as an LED flash customizer, and built up from there. I've got three Gmail accounts on my phone... each has a unique sound, LED color, and vibration assigned. So, I can hear, feel, and see the different notifiers. Works great if I'm in a meeting with sound and vibrate off for discretion. a quick glance at the phone shows me if I've got an email in to my "important" GMAIL account, and a different color/flash rate if there was a text waiting.
Check it out. There's a "lite" version of the app but I'm a paid user... it's worth every penny.

Blue Mail
Just started using Cloudmagic, very impressive!
That's funny.
I was just searching for something to replace yahoo mail, which I've been using for a while but is always buggy.
Last night I was messing around in the play store and came up with blue mail.
It couldn't be easier to set up and so far seems like a good alternative.
I'll give it a day or two and see if I still like it.

I'm using Nine for my Exchange (resp. active sync) E-Mails and the stock E-Mail App for my freemailer.
Tried CloudMagic but it was not the right app because I wasn't able to change the "sync time window" (last 14 days, last month, ...).
