[Guide] Install double boot CM7 + CM9 - Defy General

Here's a simple guide for CM7 users, to install CM9 as a test rom AND keep their CM7 ROM as a main ROM
EDIT (01/04/2012):Guide updated according to new versions of multiboot. Also works for CM10!
DUE TO KERNEL INCOMPATIBILITIES, MY GUIDE IS FOR PEOPLE WHO INSTALL CM9 +CM7 WITH THE SAME KERNEL. (EX: CM7 FROYO KERN + QUARX CM9 FOR FROYO KERN)
This guide is tested and approved on froyo kernels.
First: I suggest you backup your rom before doing anything, but there's no danger don't worry
first download and simply place on your SD-Card these files:
m11kkaa's multiboot:

This will allow us to lauch our main ROM normaly, and when we want to, launch our 2nd rom (which will be CM9 =D)
Epsylon3's or Quark's latest version of CM9:

Place all 2/3 zips on SD-card.
Download 3filesystem images that will be your virtual partitions for CM9 on Sdcard:

extract them, and place all 3 of them under /multiboot/CM9 in SDcard
You can also use the app called multibootmanager to do this
Warning: these partitions have size limits (300mb each). Don't run out of space!
People who know how to can create their own partitions, any size they want, threads exist for that
Here are the instructions:
DO NEVER WIPE DATA DURING PROCESS, IT IS NOT NEEDED
1) Go into Bootmenu
2) Choose "recovery ->" to go to the recovery choice menu
3) MAKE SURE you have:
"Custom Recovery" OR "Latest Recovery"
"Stable Recovery"
"Stock Recovery"
4) Choose "Stable Recovery"
6) Install Zip from SD-Card: multiboot_vXXXX.zip
7) REBOOT SYSTEM NOW
8) When you get the blue led, press Vol. Down, you will be in the Bootmenu.
-Choose boot->Set Default->2nd-init
-Go back once
-choose [2nd-system] to boot into the 2nd system menu.
- Here is where you will be able to select 2nd roms to boot. If you put the files on the SDcard in the right place (see above), you should see them in the menu. Other choices are "boot from nand","recovery" or "reboot".
- Choose Recovery(CWM), and then select which rom you want to apply the modifications (CM9). You will now reboot into a recovery for your virtual system.
9) a) Install zip from sdcard: CM9!!! =D
9)b) (OPTIONNAL): install google apps
10) Wipe cache and dalvik cache and then reboot system.
11) Done! reboot. If you want to launch CM9 just press Vol. Down on blue led, boot into 2nd system like above and select CM8 to boot it.
Booting any virtual ROM will take a few minutes, sd cards are slower, and this will be first boot.
Enjoy Epsilon's, Quark's, m11kkaa's and walter79's great work!

If one day you don't want CM9 again, simply remove the folder /fsimages/ from your SDcard.
I suggest you keep them in case, you may change your mind one day
You now have double boot, and CM7, and CM9 on your same phone!!!!

Troubleshooting:
My main ROM works, but i get a bootloop with CM9
In latest recovery: wipe cache + Dalvik cache. If you still get a bootloop then wipe data too.

It IS from custom and NOT latest recovery (step 4). Your "guide" is incorrect and if you ask me, makes things even more complicated than they are...sorry.
In what way is this needed amyway?; there's already a multi-boot thread.
No warning about NOT wiping data in latest recovery...Nothing about the size and limits of the 3 image files...

"Custom recovery" as we know today used to be called "latest recovery" a few months ago. The name changed so i mentionned both names in case people get confused if i say only one and they see the other. What is important is checking if you have three recoveries, not the way you call them.
Seen as CM9 is for test purposes, i doubt that warning not to install to much apps on the Second ROM is very relevant. Even though i will take into account your comment

If you flash multiboot.zip in the stable mod, you'll change mount settings for your 2nd init partition, and then it will be your main rom that will load from sdcard. I tried this and unfortunately my main com became CM9, and it is not what we want ^^.

In fact, my bad: I meant "stable" not custom. m11kkaa multiboot is to be installed in stable recovery and never in latest.
Never wipe data in latest recovery or android secure will be erased and your main boot apps will stop working.
There are incompatibilities between some roms: MSGinger will not work with ics..
...OP need some work to say the least...

And i don't know about wajkiui, but there's is a problem with MSGinger though; so be warned!
Just give it a shot anyway... but if there was ever a reason to make a nandroid backup of your current build before jumping into something, I think multiboot calls for it...
L.E.: and while I think about it: one drawback I've noticed from multiboot is that once you boot back into your main rom, the battery stats are screwed up (or to the state they were when you left for the 2nd-boot). So give your phone a nice long charge to fix this or don't complain about eventual steep battery drop...[/QUOTE]

That is incorrect...that's how I did (and others and how m11kkaa's instructions were at first _ I believe) and CM7 IS my main boot and ics my 2nd boot. And multiboot zip most probably can be install with both when you think about it. It's ICS that you absolutely need to install in latest/custom recovery... that was my last comment here good luck with this thread.

Yeah i've just re-done it all by flashing the multiboot in stable recovery, both work you're right ^^

I wouldn't bother with uninstalling the multiboot function. But if you don't want to use your 2nd rom anymore simply take the /fsimages/ folder of your sdcard.
If one day you change your mind, copy them back . Multiboot may go away if you change anything to do with bootmenu in your main ROM (CM7).
Remember: if you don't want the 2nd Boot anymore, simply take the partitions under /fsimages/ off your card

I tested CM9 and deleted /fsimages.
I reflashed many times using SBF, fixed SBF, omg, at least ten times.
And my CM7 (a new instance) does not save the language I choose after a reboot.
And any keyboard except the built-in one also hangs (The application has stopped etc).
Help, I need to fix it back =( I just cannot understand why I reflashed all the things thoroughly and still I can't get just the normal CM7 back =(

Did you backup before starting any of the instructions as i suggested? It's a wierd issue you have there =/ ....are you sure it has nothing to do with settings you may have changed? What do the dev's say about it?

I tried to install it, but no luck. After reboot I am stuck on Cyanogoogle logo forever... Wonder what could be wrong?

[DISCONTINUED][GSM][04.09.11][ALPHA] Honeycomb port by [DiP7]

Since Spacemoose has a GSM release approaching, I'm going to remove the download links here. (Also because apparently people are still attempting to flash this...) If and when I am contacted by DiP7 I will reopen this thread and add any links he wants me to add.... Or it can stay closed and he can start a new one (which is what I would hope he does.) I'm leaving the rest of the content here for reference only.

This is an Alpha build. Almost nothing works at the moment. Don't expect a golden daily driver... This aint it. If you find a download link throughout this thread, don't flash it, as I can't promise anyone will help you un(soft)brick your device.
Let's start this with : I take zero, zilch and no responsibility for anything you do to your device using anything from this thread.
If space alien ninja cows come down and eat it because they want to taste honeycomb, your fault, sorry.
There have been zero reports of anyone "hard bricking" their device, but again, I'm not responsible if you become the first.
I also take no credit for any of the work, I've only compiled what I have found so far.
I also can't stress this enough... This is a VERY EARLY STAGE of the port. ALMOST NOTHING WORKS. Any updates that take place will need to be documented within this post. I'm willing to keep track of all this, but *I AM NOT A DEV.* The original dev of this port is from another website, dsf767 seems to be in contact with him however. here at XDA!

It appears as though someone DiP7 is attempting to port Spacemoose's project to a GSM device. They also appear to have had mild success in doing so, and I'd like to start a thread to track and follow any progress anyone else may be having with flashing this rom/kernel.
[*] System must already be converted to EXT4. This can be done by various methods, flashing the Overcome rom/kernel will do it.
[*] Tab confirmed to charge while off and reports of lockscreen charging have been made.
I'm unsure if anyone has had any success other than the OP Cal-El has gotten it to boot! Directions appear to be as follows:
BACKUP EVERYTHING. Everything? EV-ER-Y-THING. Especially your internal SD card. There have been reports (that I've experienced) of your internal SD card getting wiped in either going to or coming from Honeycomb. (It usually requires a repartition to go back... so yeah, that'd do it.)
Did you back everything up? You will loose any information on your internal SD card coming back to normal from this build.
Download Rom to EXTERNAL SD:
Download Kernel to EXTERNAL SD:
Did you back up your internal SD card? What about external? Last warning. Next person to complain about their internal SD card get's the bonk.
Wipe Data/Factory restore
Wipe Cache Partition
Wipe Delvik Cache
Flash honeycomb rom using CWM (This seems to have only been tested and confirmed from the Overcome modified CWM, although any should work in theory.)
Reboot into new RED CWM.
Flash kernel using RED CWM
Reboot into new ORANGE CWM.
Wipe data/Factory reset
Wipe both caches.
Flash honeycomb rom using the ORANGE CWM.
There is no boot screen after the Galaxy Tab logo screen, just a black screen. Wait at least 5 minutes for it to boot. If it doesn't after 10, something went wrong.
If this fails, attempt to go back to stock by flashing p1_hidden.pit and any of Roto's stock roms/firmwares. From here it has been confirmed to work if you flash the Overcome rom/kernel before moving to the Android 3.0 rom/kernel. (Thanks Cal-El!)
This process must also be used to coming back from this
Honeycomb build. You will loose all information on your internal SD card.
I told you to back it up.
Taken from Alterbridge's Overcome Rom posting (which should fix any hangups while flashing to/from this Honeycomb)

I tried flashing this using the mothod above and the methon on the russian site but I can't get it to work.
It keeps messing up my /data partition. After flashing the ROM CWM always fails to mount the /data partition.
I'm going back to overcome .

I already got a blank screen and then a broken internal sdcard error. Had to find an odin flash that repartitioned.
Ill be willing to do it all again as soon as there is wifi. At least this time I'll make sure to back up my internal sdcard.

Just trying to keep track of this all... Are you saying you got it to run successfully but had to repartition to go back? Or did you have to repartition to get it to run?
Adding in the hidden_pit to the process seems simple enough.

So far that's what I've gathered, I have yet to actually test this process.
The poster above appears to have mentioned something about repartitioning, which isn't a big deal, just flash the hidden_pit.
My best guess is to flash that pit after the second wipe with Odin. But I CAN NOT verify that.
It seems obvious you would need to repartition to go back though.

I would try and flash it all via cwm, but I'm unable to download the kernel. Can anyone mirror it please?

I actually haven't updated the how-to since the original post... It wasn't meant to be rude, it's just how it is. I don't want people bricking a 600 dollar tab because they think this is a fully functional honeycomb port.

Fot the umpteenth time, HWA is set by default in all latest Nightlies by Epsylon and Quarx. And Epsylon have also already included DroidX governors back in May. His so called BOOSTED is based on boostedASSv2. And boostedASSv2 is SMARTASSv2 with other values, working according to the same principle. Here you compare both.
So there is no need to ask for other governors or recommend the "old" DroidX ones. Just open bootmenu and choose your favourit one.

As mentioned a few times this is how to get on to the ICS CM9 DEFY Epsylon bandwagon if you already have froyo as stock

1-Settings>> Enable USB debugging>> connect USB cable to defy and PC

3- Install the app SndInitDefy_2.0.apk and open it>>install Latest Recovery(Do Not Install the option which says for CM)
4- Green LED should appear on a successful installation.
5- Switch OFF and ON your phone
6-While rebooting a Blue Colour LED should appear when the M logo is displayed and on visually seeing this press the volume down to enter CWM/Recovery

7-Navigate to Recovery>> Custom Recovery

IF you reached this you must have messed up somewhere..No worries
Hopefully you heeded my warning for charging to 100%.If not pray your battery lasts the procedure( it should provided it had atleast 50-60% charge while starting your ordeal)
Now you might be wondering why I had asked you to install the RSDLite ?!
If you are getting Bootloops( though it should not happen)then do the following:
1- Remove and re-insert the battery
2- Hold down simultaneously both the Power and Volume UP for approx 5-10sec and release
3- The screen should display
"Bootloader
9.10
Ok To
Program
4-Open RSDlite on your PC >> Navigate to the froyo SBF file
5- Connect the phone and pc via USB cable
6- The rsd should display phone connected or connected
7- click on Start .. wait ... wait .. wait ..
8- it should say PASS >> only then do you remove the USB cable.
9- Repeat all the steps for installation of ICS all over again.. it should work though..

Note: Some users even after using the above mentioned method of reflashing to stock face Bootloops of the red Moto Logo.- Please check which version u have and only flash the sbf( red/green Lens)

There are several threads with lots of info.The target audience is your nOOB who doesnt have to feel frustrated not knowing where to look.
If you feel the sole purpose of this is was fishing for thanks dont you think there would be a slight lack to commitment to the thread

noob asking for help installing cm9
Hey guys, well i'm a noob when it comes to this, i had a lot of trouble even rooting my defy+ cuz it was 2.3.5 and when i finally got to root it and installed the 2init, well i thought i was good enough to install a cm9, i found yours and ur guide so easy that i tried it.
It all was going so good to the point where i choose the .zip to install the cm9 nightly, and i got an error: it can't open the .zip file, says it's bad, tho i've downloaded some other zips it keeps saying the same.
I'd really appreciate any help on this cuz atm my damn phone is nothing more than a dead weight in my pocket.

UPDATE: used another nightly and it appears to be ok so far.

Can i suggest an aditional step - create a back up before you wipe everything in clockwork mod recovery, test that back up, by selecting back up/restore and restoring the back up youve just made, then continuing with the wipe/factory re-set, should be done between steps 7 and 8.
It will add some extra time to things, but should you encounter problems youi wil have a tested working back up to go back to should everything go wrong - these emergency back ups have got me out of difficulty several times..
Also when updating a rom/nightly make a back up and save it else where - you dont need loads of back ups delte the older custom rom ones every now and agian- just keep your old stock one as a just in case.
At the moment i am runnig CM9 20120708-NIGHTLY-jordan
and i have a back up of the CM72-20120601-NIGHTLY-Defy as well as the old motorola stock froyo ready to go should i need them again.

This works for the defy(mb525) froyo to ics.. the kernel which you have to flsh is differnet, the cm9 is also different.. my friend did you not read the thread heading??

The backup part for a first time would be too much to assemble ,but, then again best they have all the knowledge in the post
I have taken backups but have not used a backup till date better safe than sorry i guess !!

please don't do that if i may suggest.
i have tried it and left stuck at moto logo.
i was using GGL ROM, so i just install the CM9 from epsylon3 zip, and got stuck.
( i was assuming that the GGL ROM is still using froyo kernel, but maybe i was wrong)
the best way is to flash sbf back to stock froyo first.

what kind of data are you talking about exactly?
in my case, all my contacts, appointment, calendar data are already synced with my google account. So all of them were automatically restored the minute i logged into my account during initialization process.
as for applications, all apps that i have downloaded previously are also recorded by my google play account.
so basically for apps, i just make backups for their settings and store in SD.
After CM9 installation, i just reinstall everything, and restore settings from their backups on SD.
the other option you may try is using titanium backup for applications.

There really isnt a need to wipe dalvik while you are doing a nightly.. Only while installing new roms.. then again.. why not go ahead with it and see the differnece with/without the dalvik clear ..

Good day... I'm running the 120705 Eppy Defy build...
My question is, do i need to wipe the Dalvik cache when upgrading a nightly? Cuz some of the stuff the changelog says is fixed is still broken, can the dalvik cache make a difference to this regard? I have never wiped it since that first time I swopped over to CM9.
Also what data will be lost when it's wiped?

I have defy red lens upgraded to CM7.1 & now i wanna upgrade it to cm9...so i'm confused how to do it..bcoz everywhere its shown from froyo to Cm9.. but meh got cm7.1 so plz tell meh wot i need to do? any small written steps will be sufficient coz meh know how to go through boot menu and stuff..

Note: Suggestions, comments & questions are welcome. Will improve as much as needed.
1. BACKUP. There are many apps you can find to backup any data. Backup all data you'll want to keep until you're 100% satisfied then move it to a folder on your PC. Personally, I use Titanium Backup Pro and backup everything to Google Drive.
2. DOWNLOAD. A GB kernel, rooted AT&T ROM/Rogers ROM, stock ICS leak, CWM, and then go to the CM10 thread and grab the latest build of the ROM & Gapps. So you should have 6 files total. To make your life easier, put them all in 1 folder.
3. ROOT. Turn off your phone. Hold the top part of the volume rocker and turn on the phone. It should boot into download mode if done correctly. Connect phone to PC via USB. On your PC, install & open Odin. Click on PDA and locate your GB kernel. Then click start & wait. If successful, you should see green and you'll be rooted. I believe whenever you use ODIN, it is called a 'flash.' I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, go back into download mode and now place the rooted ROM in the PDA section followed by clicking start again. When the phone is done booting, go to the Play store and get Superuser app. This allows you to give permission to operations that require root. Make sure it is updated!
4. CLEAN. Now you'll want to wipe your phone to minimize the chances of anything going wrong. Instead of holding the top part of the volume rocker, you'll hold the bottom. Then hold it as you start the phone. This is the stock recovery menu. I don't remember precisely what the options are called but you will want to wipe cache, dalvik, data and system.
5. UPDATE OS. Time to open up that stock ICS leak. When open, it should appear similar to Odin. Make sure your phone is in download mode again, connected via USB and click start again. You'll notice that your phone might take a while to boot up. It'll be updating files and apps so be patient.
6. CWMR. After it's all booted up, time to go back to download mode again. In ODIN, you'll want to click on PDA again and this time flash the CWMR file. Click start and you're done in no time.
7. CLEAN AGAIN. Now you'll want to turn off your phone and boot the phone holding the bottom of the rocker. You'll boot into CWMR. Time to wipe and format again. You'll find the first 2 wipe options on the first page. The wiping of dalvik cache will be in the ADVANCED menu. Then you'll want to go into the MOUNTS AND STORAGE menu. Format system, cache & data.
8. CM10. Now while still in CWMR, you'll need to go into the MOUNTS AND STORAGE menu and select MOUNT USB STORAGE. You'll want to connect your phone to your PC with the USB. Place the CM10 and Gapps files in the main directory of your PHONE'S INTERNAL STORAGE. Select UNMOUNT on your phone, disconnect from USB and now you'll want to go to the option INSTALL ZIP FROM SDCARD.. then go to the CHOOSE.. option and select the final fruit of your labor, CM10. When it's done doing it's thing, REBOOT SYSTEM. Be patient and let everything load.
9. GAPPS. After everything has loaded, you want to turn off the phone and boot into CWMR one last time. Go to INSTALL ZIP FROM SDCARD, CHOOSE ZIP and flash that Gapps file. Then REBOOT SYSTEM.
10. RESTORE. Reinstall the app you used to backup your stuff, move your backup files you put on the PC back to it's rightful place and restore. You should be good to go.

Just checking - is there not a thread / guide for this elsewhere already? (Or am I confusing versions - not for the first time, with xda-developers!)
Suggestions:
- move this to the start of a new thread where you can reserve the first 3 posts, you can update/edit it, etc.
1. BACKUP:
- it would be useful to mention CWMR backup. (i.e. Botch it, restore the image, try again.)
- I like not leaving people hanging and at least mentioning TB as you have so they have a search path to follow. It would be worth mentioning that TB Free will be 'good enough' to keep them safe (one time) through this process. [But long term / good app / scheduling makes TB Pro worthwhile.]
- Making TB and CWMR a link would be useful, and not just a link to the 'product' page, but link to a thread that describes how to do so. 'Product' links will be contained within them. It's all very well to get a link to what a beastie is, but frequently knowing what it is, and how to put it into practice are two different things. Linking to a thread of the latter type would be the useful one.
3. ROOT
- one of the problems when talking about ODIN is the perception left that it is a single thing. So saying 'ODIN (PC)' would be useful here. Whether you point out that it talks to the ODIN (client?) already built in to the PDA is up to you.
4. UPDATE OS:
- don't you want to be talking about the alpha/beta dudejb version here?
5. CWMR
- wouldn't you want to do this first? See Backup comments, above.
- is this even necessary? It's a VERY GOOD IDEA, but is CWMR needed to run the phone 'stock' (CM10)?
7. CM10
- links / explanations are going to be useful here.
- e.g. There's a lot of talk of subsequent steps, such as backlight fix. You might want to note such is already built in, or not. (As people read they come across these additional fixes, and it's not always apparent that months later someone built the fixes in already. It's easy to go in circles trying to get a coherent, whole, current, view of the world.)
SD Card management - first you TB Backup, then you wipe the SD Card (or so a quick glance appears). I know you haven't actually said that, but some explicit clarity may be helpful.

Thanks for the suggestions and good question. I don't think there are any guides out there.. but this is just from how I did it. Tried to make it as simple as I could without adding branching steps. Also, it's very narrow because I can only speak on behalf of the what worked for me. If there's a big need for this to be in a thread of it's own, I'll gladly make one.
-I didn't mention CWMR backup for two reasons. I didn't use it and I don't rely on it. Perhaps I should mention it anyway though regardless.
-Never used dudejb's version so I didn't list it.
-Needed CWMR at that point to install CM10 & Gapps zips. I think you can also use Odin but doing it via CWMR gives him a chance to familiarize himself with what he'll be using to flash future versions.
-Didn't put links to CM10 since he already knows where it is and can most likely read the fixes & not-fixed list himself.

There is one hiccups i'm coming across. After I wipe, data, cache, dalvik cache,
I **format data, format cache, format system** then when it reboot and it just stays at the
start up screen that shows SAMSUNG. I let it sit for 5 but nothing happens, its still
on SAMSUNG. I've repeated the steps a few times? Is there any suggestions on what I can do?

Do steps 4,5 and then copy the cm10 and gapps to you phone internal memory. Then follow step 6. Lastly install cm10 and gapps together and reboot you phone.

One thing I would add - before flashing ICS, wipe system data cache dalvik (either with stock recovery or cwmr). Then boot into download and flash ICS.

i suppose u already know that you need a rooted phone before rom flashing is possible. what i did was to flash ics leak using clockwork recovery and then cm10.

IS ANYBODY AWARE THAT THERE IS NO OFFICIAL CM10 NIGHTLY ON GET.CM??? Please stop telling people to look there!

Did you know you don't have to tell at us... once you learn that. I'd like to say there won't be an official cm10 because the official cm secs think our phone runs on different hardware than it actually does and thinks they can get the phys. keyboard working. You should thank dman for even getting cm9 and beta cm10 where they are.

Yes dman should be thanked, so hard his thanks gland fails.
Official CyanogenMod is not being made because -we- have different hardware than the other SGSII range of phones.
So yeah. No use pointing at get.cm

1. In order to get CM10, first get instructions on rooting(if you have root,SKIP) via http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1378082
2. When you have gotten root, flash CWMR via http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458153 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2007198
(MAKE SURE YOU DO A NANDROID BACKUP AFTER YOU SUCCESSFULLY FLASH CWMR)
3. Next step is to flash ICS leak UCLG9 via http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1841502 (could not find thread for CWM flashable UCLJ3)
4. Once you are now on UCLG9, you can now flash CM10 by Dman.

9. GAPPS. After everything has loaded, you want to turn off the phone and boot into CWMR one last time. Go to INSTALL ZIP FROM SDCARD, CHOOSE ZIP and flash that Gapps file. Then REBOOT SYSTEM.
10. RESTORE. Reinstall the app you used to backup your stuff, move your backup files you put on the PC back to it's rightful place and restore. You should be good to go.

You've made the same mistake as in your previous post. Step 6 for cleaning up the phone should be after you copy the cm10 and gapps to internal storage or otherwise from cwmr you'll have to mount storage and then copy the files from your comp. If you format system then you won't be able to boot at all.
And after the copy you can do all the format and cleaning and install cm10 and then gapps together and reboot finally.
This guide would be a good help to the new users. Hopefully you can incorporate the changes to correct it.

Sorry, really wanted to play AC3. Fix'd the cleaning stage. I realized I actually did mount the storage. Looks okay, I hope?

Hey, I followed these steps and it worked.
Didn't run into any major problems, except for having to download the CM10 file using my phone itself, I couldn't download it from my computer (found this out in the CM10 post, pg 29).
It really helps to follow OPs instructions, but also read up on all of the individual threads he links to before actually doing anything.

Should I not just be able to install JB from Clock work mod? I have never used the 1 click installer but I am on ICS with an ICS Kernel.
Waiting for everything to work before I flash JB. Heard there were still issues with the camera.

The method is how I got to JB. There's probably other ways but this worked for me. And yes, currently camera doesn't work.

- didn't and don't understand this at the time.
- perhaps a "(reserving a message slot)" in the middle would clarify.
- my guess was, this post was saying doing the things in post 1 was a good idea.
- only later did I realize you were probably referring to the reservation of the message slot.

It was my first to unlock and root my phone, followed by flashing a stock ROM (Which is exactly why I rooted it)
I flashed this JB 4.2.2 stock build [ROM] [OTA][GSM] Android 4.2.2 JDQ39: Rooted | Galaxy Nexus > XDA for my Galaxy Nexus
Now...
I can't disable Next-word suggestions in the Language & Input -> Google Keyboard Settings

go back to recovery, format/wipe /system partition, reflash rom.
For your reference, a good app to install bb is stephen (stericsson)'s busybox installer (play store link). Obviously, it needs root.

How do I get “root”?

So, what you're saying is that I should boot into fastboot mode, wipe system partition (this will format the whole SD card right?), install the same ROM again?
I guess I'll need to install Titanium Backup to backup my apps and settings, I'll have to search for an article for the best way to do it as well..
Can I do it like this:
Open "Rom Manager", Select "Install ROM from SD Card", install it.. ???
PS: Do you have a recommendation for a better ROM, perhaps my choice of ROM wasn't correct...

You can wipe the system partition in a custom recovery (dont know if you can with stock). And yes you could flash via ROM manager but I wouldnt recommend it. I am on XenonHD 11.1 and loving it. But roms are a personal choice so there is no 'best' ROM. Just try out.

The tutorial I followed didn't mention using the ROM manager, but I had not choice.. becuase whenever I went into fastboot mode manually, it got stuck on the screen displaying Google (I waited for minutes without any luck)
How would you recommend CyanogenMod 10.1.2 against the stock 4.2.2 which I have currently?
I read these threads as well whereby they said that there is no "real" solution to the issues:

If you read it, you'll stop thinking you need to be doing anything at this point in FASTBOOT interface! Like mrgnex says, you need to be on a custom recovery to format /system. (Have you read the link yet? By now you should know that the /system partition and the /sdcard/ (aka userdata) are 2 different things!)

I'm still confused though.. "Fast boot" and "Recovery" are they the same thing?
I tried a "fix" mentioned by someone about using a live wallpaper such as "Water", I tried it and it's been 1/2 hour and it's really smooth compared to before...

So to get things clear:
No fastboot and recovery arent the same thing.
Vol up+down+power brings you into fast boot and not recovery.
Apparently you dont have 2 custom recoverys since you booted into cwm.
Cm10 is great. But there are many great roms out there. You can start off with cm and then (if you please) look further.
I dont see any reason to not install cm10.1.2 since a whole team built and optimized it. So basically it is a better stock.
When you think your phone is slow you should look into the custom kernels. Thats a different story which I will not begin before you want to

I'll download CM10.1.2 tomorrow and will decide to install it once Stock JB 4.2.2 starts acting up again.

I wanted to know one more thing, Is it bad to flash ROMs to your phone every now and then?
Because I've seen people flashing different ROMs on their phone, I don't wanna damage my phone as I want it to last as long as I can make it.
(by "Bad" I mean... does it reduce the phone's life or it's hardware's life span)

No it can't. I was a flashaholic (until I discovered XenonHD) and my phone didn't got worse. Only overclocking the CPU and gpu can affect the life of the CPU or gpu (or both XD). Just do a fresh install everytime and read the post of the ROM of your choice to see what to do to get it working optimally. If you have any problems just ask.

I'll flash CM in a week or two, as I'm on a tight schedule currently, and I also wanna note down the average battery time I get out of 4.2.2

So... since 4.3 is now out, I was thinking it'd be better for me to flash it other than anything else.
I'll most probably download the stock rom from:

With the stock package there is no need for a toolkit.

I apologize guys... I guess I wasn't thinking straight as its past midnight here...
So just to clarify stuff so that I don't end up doing something wrong:
-> Head into Recovery Mode (with usb debugging enabled... connect usb cable to phone and pc)
-> Wipe System
-> Wipe Cache
-> Install from SD card (select .zip file)
right?
Also, I performed a backup of the applications I have via Titanium Backup, They'll work on 4.3 when I restore them right? or do you recommend downloading them from the play store again?

the google stock package is NOT flashable in CWM/TWRP
if you follow the GOOGLE instructions it WILL wipe your device (remember that backup you made of everything?)
alternatively you can make sure and have adb/fastboot working on your computer properly, extract all the files out of the zip (including the tar.gz located inside), and in recovery, do a factory reset, then boot to fastboot, fastboot flash system and boot ....
as for Titanium Backup, there is a work around to get it working on 4.3, but root is lacking full power.

I took a backup of my apps using titanium backup, I installed it but can't use it, it says I need root (which I already had before).
I read online somewhere that I need to root again, but I don't wanna lose all my data/ apps I installed again...
Any ideas?

According to a friend's recommendation I used Wugfresh Nexus Root Toolkit to Root, and surprisingly didn't lose any of my data!
