[Q] Transferred wrong zimage, how do I restore - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I foolishly installed the wrong zimage for ClockworkMod from the CyanogenMod guide (cannot post link to it D: ), thinking that it was for my model (I have the Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch, and the guide was for the Galaxy S2). However, it was not. Now I have no wirless capabilities, and the buttons at the bottom of my phone do not all work.
Is there a way to restore the stock recovery image? None of the options in clockwork are functional and I don't want to brick my phone completely.
Thanks.

Does anyone know what to do?

Have you tried using ODIN to flash the stock zImage?

I think that worked, thank you!

Samsung Android Devices - How They Work

OK so I'm new to Samsung Android devices, I'm coming from an EVO 4G and an EVO 3D.
I'm confused on how they work. From what I understand, you can't install a recovery without messing with the kernal. Is that correct?
I mean is the recovery a part of the kernal? Or does the kernal contain the recovery?
And this "download mode counter" thing. I read that a guy made a device to reset it. Why is it there in the first place? Is there any other way to reset it?
Not to mention I'm rooted with stock kernal and no ClockworkMod recovery, and my WiFi is borked, it just says "obtaining IP address". I have no idea why it won't work on the stock kernal.
Sorry if this is a lot of questions at once, I'm just trying to get a grasp on how Samsung android devices work.
Any info to shed some light on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

For some reason Samsung put recovery and the kernel on the same partition. Once you flash a recovery you can flash a kernel through recovery and leave your recovery alone.
Download mode flashes are counted. Make or Buy (as low as $2.99) a "USB jig" to reset the counter. Ignore claims of a "counter reset counter"
My Wifi (and 4G, usually at the same time) would do the same thing after I screwed with enough settings I probably shouldn't be. I just did a nandroid of my setup, did a factory reset, wiped everything, flashed the stock-rooted-odex via odin and nandroid restored back my data partition and everything works. I don't know why, but it does...reliably.

The Kernel is contained in the same partition as recovery. So, the kernel must be flashed at the same time.
Download Mode is pretty much a backup for recovery mode. If you completely wipe your phone 100% (include recovery, ROM), you still have a backup option to flash an entire STOCK ROM (or in some cases, custom ROMs) to bring your phone back from the brink of bricked. Most manufacturers, if not all, are using applications or scripts to keep track of rooted devices. Samsung implemented a binary change counter. Anything that's loaded on the phone through download mode will add a number to the counter.
I'm not sure why you're having to trouble with WiFi on stock (my stock experience was great before I rooted). I don't know if it's a modified "stock rom" or if you just rooted it by flashing the stock rooted kernel. We'd need more details on that.

I dont know why its there in the first place but read further in development since there are a few ways to repair that. I read for days before getting the phone and actually rooting to make sure I knew what I was doing. Check here

What method did you use I used this
Thanks for the replies. I'm starting to get a handle on it.
@playya I didn't use that method. I'll try it and report back.
EDIT: @playya that worked! My wifi now works. The method I used before was I flashed the pulled-stock-kernal in one of these threads. I'll have to find it again.
Here's a question I thought of. I went to download the latest CWM recovery from clockworkmod.com and it's in a zip file. How do I load that onto this phone since there isn't a bootloader that can handle zip files? Or is it not possible without incorporating a kernal with it?

you have to flash a kernel that has cwm already in it, theirs no other way to flash a zip yet
OK here's another question I ran into, which has been somewhat frustrating. I rooted my phone using this method thanks to playya for the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1282415
That contains CWM 5.0.2.3
After that I flashed the LosT kernal, which contained CWM 5.0.2.7.
When I flash Starburst ROM (in recovery), it keeps reverting me back to CWM 5.0.2.3. How is this possible? I've never heard of flashing a ROM in recovery and it then changing the recovery!
So the backup I made on 5.0.2.7 will not restore when using 5.0.2.3, I just keep getting a MD5 mismatch error.
Is there any way to stop this from happening?

[Q] Would Anyone Like To Upload A Stock Sprint Galaxy Nexus Backup? (SOLVED)

Anyone with a Sprint Galaxy Nexus, would you please help me in restoring the stock ROM?
Long story short, I was trying out various CDMA ROMs (which cell connection does not work currently), I lost my TWRP backup of the stock ROM.
I can flash any CDMA ROM I want, either through TWRP or Clockwork, but anything for Verizon hangs at the activation screen, because of the lack of cell connection.
So if someone would please reset the stock ROM to factory, make a Nandroid or TWRP backup, and upload it, I would be ever so grateful!
I pushed via adb the /system directory from this post, but it still boots whatever Verizon ROM I last flashed.
SOLVED:
If you did flash a Verizon ROM on your Sprint Galaxy Nexus, flash the TWRP recovery, then unzip and place this in your Nandroid backup folder and restore.
When Android boots, update Profile & PRL in the About screen, reboot, and data should be working again!
Sorry, I haven't gotten my Gnex yet but I can bump this for you.

I made the mistake of using the "Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit v1.3," and didn't realize it was specifically for Verizon. It had the option for CDMA/LTE, which is what the Sprent Nexus is, so I didn't even think that it was for Verizon...
Anyways, I did not change the ROM, but I did do the unlock and root tool, now I am having issues with the phone, specifically with the Data, and trying to update the Profile/PRL.
So, I could use a clean install of everything as well.
I'd also be interested in seeing someone dd & post the basebands
OP was edited to include links to restore a complete stock backup that was made!
i also need help but it seems that the links of the files are not working can you please provide me with the files or links i would highly appreciate your help my nexus is not working because of the flashing a verizon rom

HELP Needed

Hello All,
when I woke up this morning my Samsung Epic 4g Touch (Sprint) was acting funny so I decided to reflash the Rom I have on it. Unfortunately I forgot I had switched out my sd card from my xoom and flashed its packages instead. It is stuck on the First screen that says samsung galaxy SII.
Can someone please tell me how to hard reset my phone? WIll this reset the root? If i can get into recovery, I can flash the appropriate rom and use a backup to restore.

If you can get into Download Mode, I would start by odin EL29 rooted or FF18 rooted. (flash Agats kernel for ICS Odin as well) then from there you'll have custom recovery and flash your Rom of choice.

[Solved] Messed up my phone accidentally ...

Hello,
I was about to install the Beanstalk 4.3 ROM to my T-Mobile Galaxy Sll so I was following there Installation Instructions until I got to step 4... I had downloaded TWRP for the first time today and made a backup with it but I also used it to wipe out my whole Internal SD. That deleted all the ROMs I have and since I deleted everything they asked for my Galaxy Sll only gets to the Samsung logo and then goes black. I forgot about the backup so I instantly went and watched the "How to Unbrick Samsung Galaxy S2 / S ll T989 T-Mobile Phone" and before I realized my phone had changed recovery to CWM instead of TWRP and it seems as if each Recovery makes its own backups so I can't use the backup I made with TWRP in CWM.
I was gonna ask if there was a program in which I can transfer files without turning the device on. Maybe I can go into download mode with my phone and use ODIN some sort of way and pass a file? or install TWRP through ODIN? If this is possible someone please mention me the steps. I'm really worried at the moment any advice would be appreaciated.
Step one calm down!
Step two yes you can use Odin to install twrp
Step three read the stickies

[Q] Noob Question, worth a thankyou

I have been away from the epic for a while and now that iim back ive discovered this new way of partitioning. Can someone explain what i have to do in order to flash my stock GB phone with any of the MTD roms currently available? Any advice would be awesome.
Install CWM 5.0.2.7 via Odin, download your ROM of choice onto SD card, boot into CWM recovery, select ROM and voila. If you know how to set up Odin, then everything's so simple you could do it in 2 minutes.
