So i have an Evo 4G im trying to flash splash screens and boot animations,
For bootanimations i tried the root explorer method and put the bootanimation.zip in both data/local and system/media but nothing just a black screen why is this??
for the custom splash screen im doing it the adb method,, its reads my evo but when i type fastboot, its says fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command operable program or batch file,, whats going on??
Any help please,,

Bootanimations:
I'm not sure if its in data/local or system/customize/resource you can check both
But you:
Download file
Move file to folder
Replace old with new
Set permmissions to rw--r--r--

Add any custom boot animation (there are two available: cyanogen and G2 edited stock animation) to system/media. Back up the current one first. Just use adb, terminal emu, or any root file explorer. Enjoy insta-boot, lol!

we were all instructed to put it there from the other thread containing the boot image.
having the image in 2 placed is redundant. having an OS read boot images from 2 possible locations is also redundant.
copying the boot image to data/local will also put it in system/media. which is weird.
deleting the boot image from data/local will cause it to not display image on boot. even though its still in system/media

I think the creator of that thread assumed we knew to mount /system as read/write....
essentially, all he's asking you to do is move com.swype.android.inputmethod.apk (note, some of you might have: com.swype.android.inputmethod-1.apk) from /data/app to /system/app and then rename it to Swype.apk so that the metamorph applies itself to the correct apk... here is the exact sequence of commands to do this from adb:
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
cp /data/app/com.swype.android.inputmethod.apk (or whatever the .apk for your Swype is named) /system/app/Swype.apk
Click to collapse
you can do it through terminal emulator as well, you just don't need the first command above (adb shell)
after performing this, if you navigate to your system/app folder, you should see Swype.apk. it is just a renamed clone of your original swype from /data/app... the thing is that the metamorph theme looks specifically in /system/app for Swype.apk, which is why we have to move and rename it. after the morph is applied to Swype.apk in your /system/app folder, simply move it back to /data/app as the name of your original swype apk (most likely com.swype.android.inputmethod.apk) so it overwrites the existing Swype, and theoretically you're good to go. (I say theoretically because it is apparently hit or miss.. maybe it depends on the theme? I'm not sure, but I haven't been able to get the morphs to apply and then have a working swype afterwards)

works fine. could be several things causing this, but typically if you just go back in after it says "not enough space" and closes a few times it will eventually figure it out.

So I found this fantastic boot animation, and decided I wanted to change. I searched around, and found a method where you replaced 'bootanimation' in system/bin and changed permissions to 777. It did not work. Then I tried the old, Samsung firmware method and it worked!
Here are the steps (using Root Explorer):
1. Find a suitable bootanimation.zip
2. Place it in data/local
3. Reboot!
You can of course place it there using any other method. No need to modify any permissions. It should work.
Thanks dude

Here is how to use:

Synergy too. Samsung uses a proprietary format for boot animations, and synergy and Darkside x make the format unproprietary.

That's probably because our actual boot animation is bootanimation_sprint.zip and we have a bootanimation.zip for the lg logo. You'll have to change a name in whatever zip you are applying. Then it should work.... or if not we'll have to change something in whatever tells the system which ones to flash. (build.prop?)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1985103
here it is
Edit: this one doesn't work. Epic found a working one, see page 2

Should have specified... did you renamethe zip file IN the zip file and then zip them both back up properly?
Edit: Dangit... didn't work. I've tried a lot of stuff now... I'm going to try editing the sprint bootanimation itself next.
Edit 2: Holy crap its after 5 am
Ok i finally got it.. I think I had a couple bad boot animations. Just renamed the animation to bootanimation_sprint.zip, didn't bother with the normal bootanimation.zip yet. Set it to 644 (rw/r/r) permissions. I successfully got this one to work, for reference: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402764 Here is the actual boot animation file that should be fine to put in system media without renaming. Just check the permissions: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/31205865/bootanimation_sprint.zip It wouldn't be too hard to make a flashable one but I couldn't find any that used the right script and its almost 6 am. goodnight.
That boot animation is the original nexus boot up screen.
