[GUIDE][CM7] Changing Boot Animation - Galaxy Ace S5830 Themes and Apps

So I found this fantastic boot animation, and decided I wanted to change. I searched around, and found a method where you replaced 'bootanimation' in system/bin and changed permissions to 777. It did not work. Then I tried the old, Samsung firmware method and it worked!
Here are the steps (using Root Explorer):
1. Find a suitable bootanimation.zip
2. Place it in data/local
3. Reboot!
You can of course place it there using any other method. No need to modify any permissions. It should work.

Thanks dude

Ah.. So it is basically like a 'clean slate'. You mod it the way you want. Plus if you're okay with having the stock thingy, as rebooting phones is a very rare activity in daily, normal usage, it saves at least an MB of space.

I'm using absolute system in market..can change boot animation and fonts too..its work on sga

And this works with CM7 too, right? Needs root?
EDIT: Checked the app. Nice alternative, if you want to avoid the hassles of manually changing bootanimation.zip.

Change Boot Animation

I have been looking around and have seen some different apps that say they can change it, and other hacks to do it.
What is the easiest way to change the animation boot screen?
Currently right now when I boot up, I see the HTC Quietly Brilliant image, and then a blink and it shows the same thing, but animated. The animated one I want to change.
You must be rooted to perform this otherwise it won't work.
I think that 'boot animation changer' can handle it.

Yes you can
Theirs also an option to import any other anime you download from within the app
Yes, I know all that.
I am asking what the quickest and easiest way to do it is.
And how well does that App work with the Desire?

unless your using a rom that has symlinked the bootanimation.zip to data/local as aposed to /system/customise/resorce/ there is no app that can change the bootanimation.zip, you will have to do it manually using adb

unpack the .zip and look inside, see if bootanimaton.zip is in data/local or system/customise/resorce

cut boot time in half!

I don't normally start a thread unless its something I released but... this needs to be known!
Add any custom boot animation (there are two available: cyanogen and G2 edited stock animation) to system/media. Back up the current one first. Just use adb, terminal emu, or any root file explorer. Enjoy insta-boot, lol!

Either location works but I haven't tested data /local position. Delete the one from there and make sure the edited cyan or edited G2 stock is in system/media. Having them in two places is just redundant...

we were all instructed to put it there from the other thread containing the boot image.
having the image in 2 placed is redundant. having an OS read boot images from 2 possible locations is also redundant.
copying the boot image to data/local will also put it in system/media. which is weird.
deleting the boot image from data/local will cause it to not display image on boot. even though its still in system/media

If you want a good themable stock rom, try fast this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836042 make sure you flash the deodexed one and then flash baconbits or that new fast OCed kernel...

As for boot animation..You must replace the boot animation.zip with root explorer. But I dont have the knowledge in that someone else will have to answer that for you..I do know in order to change your lock screen wallpaper u must go into settings-Display-Screen Display..Then at bottom you will see Lock screen...click under that on wallpaper and change away..Also if u click on clock at far bottom u can change clock position to (top, middle or bottom)..Hope this Helps..

Need help with custom boot animitaion

I have Liquidsmooth v2.2 rom installed and I went through replacing the boot animation.zip with a different custom .zip but all it did was erase the Liquidsmooth animation and it boots first with the Samsung logo then galaxy s III logo and then its a black screen for the rest of the boot up. I'm not sure how to fix it at this point. I also flashed the samsung4u.zip using recovery...not sure if that's what messed it up but I would really appreciate some knowledge.

Your bootanimation.zip permission is wrong. It would be -rw-r--r--. then reboot
Was it even flashable ZIP file or was it meant to be copied and renamed? None of the ones I have used were flashable. As the previous person mentioned you need to correct the file permissions.

Buddy, these are Bootanimations files which are not flash able zip files. so as per OP Screen shot, permission is incorrect.

I'm fully aware that the ones that I have used (and the one I created) are not flashable however I was under the impression that they can be packaged into a flashable ZIP. I have not attempted because I just copy it and set the permissions. As far as the permissions on the OPs screenshot I was agreeing with your assessment that the permissions on the file are incorrect.

I would assume it's possible to make a CWM flashable zip but that would only seem useful after flashing a rom before you reboot

Need help in getting back Stock Boot animation on Tab S 8.4

I tried looking around but most guides/remedies seem to be for androids in general, kinda a noob at this so I apologize if this counts as spam.
I would be very thankful if someone could help me out with this recently after flashing ironrom I have this hideuous frog boot animation which replaces my stock one and I tried backing up my stock one and replacing it but when I replaced it, there was no change. I backed up before flashing the rom.
I checked in system/media there were a few boot-related files I think but I'm not sure, going into bin I found bootanimation but it didn't have the .zip extension.
Also, I can't seem to find the bootanimation.zip like most guides on replacing bootanimation tell you to do, some pointers would be helpful.
**Thanks in advance!**

Did that still black boot screen plus with the new shutdown animation (which was previously working) the resolution is halfed.
I'm thinking I should just reflash to stock since nothing is working but I'd really like to leave that as last resort as this seems like a really trivial problem which I'm just not handling correctly thus the many complications.

Something isn't making sense here, which Root File Explorer do you use?
You should just be able to copy all 3 qmg files from the previous Ironrom or any LP rom for your device and put them in that folder.
That should be it.

At the moment the files don't have any permissions at all.
They need to be set r-r-r-w.
Apart from that I see no reason for it not to work.

The ones in the screenshots have total access. I have tried limiting it to r-r-r-w with no luck difference.
Seems like the shutdown animation works though (it did before) but now the lower half is grey probably due to the different resolution size.
