Ciq test? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

So with all this troubling info on CIQ I saw that verizon stated they do not have it installed on any of there devices. Anyone on a stock rooted verizon rom want to test this and post it here? How do we know there telling the truth?

I checked the applications list on a unrooted stock verizon rom, and nothing there with "IQ" or "CIQ" in it's name, seems clean. Maybe I was looking in the wrong place though.

Yea the problem with that is it may be under a different name.

Checked the red DI2 while it was still stock on HB.98 and afterward on RMK's Ginger Sense, rechecked it on SK's Zeus 1.3 - looked clear of CIQ.
However, while it's stripped of most if not all VZW bloatware, it is still running many Google & HTC apps on the device, I wouldn't be sure as others said. Besides, as long as location-based is checked & it's using data - one can be sure "Big Brother" is watching/monitoring somewhere .... the Patriot Act or otherwise, LOL.
Use common sense, it's a smartphone with a browser .... Facebook, Twitter, SMS/MMS, IM, Talk & GV, etc. !

If anyone wants to check to be sure that the Ciq stuff is gone, use This
It's an easy check. Will also take care of any other loggers as well if there are any.

Verizon went on record as saying they don't use CIQ, so I guess we can trust them on that...

They may not use CIQ, but you can bet they have some form of data analytiçs on their devices.

Just for curiosity did you check the Htc logger setting as well?
I am glad to know that stock there is no Ciq. Thanks for posting the result.

We don't use torture"
Right, just like that Cha Hanus VP back in the Bush Wack days said "We don't do it".
Doesn't mean that they don't hire it out under a different name..
Is HTC North or South Korea? I bet they are somewhere in between.
Did CARNORVOR ever end up devouring itself?
For years Brit's have spied on the US for the US and the US has spied on Britten for Britten just so they each could say "We don't conduct those type of operations".
HAH. I say If ya want to know, ask. Otherwise it's just second hand news...
And that's what got US to cleanup up Iraq. No wait a minute, It was because SadMan insulted Pa Pa Hog Wash Bush.
I better quit while I am still breathing.... And the ruels of engaugement will change yet again.

No problem. I just ran the HTC Logging Tools test and there are 4 hits on that one.
System/app/qxdm2sd.apk
system/app/qxdm2sd.odex
system/lib/libhtcqxdm2sd.so
System/bin/htc_ebdlogd
I know the first 3 are all parts of the same app. Not sure what the last one is but it appears to be some kind of log. I assume its the log created by the app but thats just a guess.
Let me know if there is anything else you want me to test because I will probably be rooting my phone this weekend.

[Q] Sprint and your Rom...

i just go done talking to sprint.... my phone has a Display problem...i asked for a warranty replacement. I told them what happened and i didnt tell them it was rooted because of the obvious reasons.... as it turns out sprint can actually remotely go into your phone and know exactly what you are running.... They asked about myn and warm 2.2.... so i had to tell them... so just a heads up be careful who you talk to.... did anyone else know this?
Wow, I didnt know that but thanks for the H.U.
Luckily I have TEP so its not much of a problem but that would be something to look out for if your phone starts acting up
What happened?
Did they follow through with the Warranty or void it? I do IT work for a few sprint stores and was told that rooting the phone would void its warranty (hence why I ask). In the same breathe, none of them at the stores would know
Thanks for the info.

Dang man that's no good. Sorry to hear.
So what if you ruu back to factory settings? About 3 weeks ago I had to have a speaker replaced they didn't say anything about it but he actually asked me if I had ever thought about rooting I just played dumb. That's crazy though that they can see that remotely... actually no thats not that crazy.

Just run the ruu. If your phone is usb connected and the only issue is the display that won't prevent you from going back to stock. You can check usb connectivity in windows or by doing an adb devices if you have set up adb.

Just flash the 1.47 RUU then run S-ON. You'll be essentially downgrading low enough to where you can re-run Unrevoked with no problems whatsoever. Good luck.

Hold on, hold on...before we get all flared up, I don't think Sprint is actually logging on to our phones.
They are likely just getting Mod/Kernel version from About Phone menu option..just the way they can know about the PRL/PRI from their system (may be these are the traces that our phones leaves on the system).
If you guys are so worried, just go to build.prop and change the mod/build name.

sorry, not trying to be rude. But no sense asking what ifs, just because this seems to be news to everyone that Sprint can do this. So changing the build.prop might be a good start, if that doesnt work then I dont know. I don't develop these things. Maybe make some type of cached image that looks legit, so Sprint sees that instead of the actual figures. Or some type of block maybe
Or sue them

Do EG22 and EH06 ROMs have Carrier IQ?

Hey guys,
So I've been noticing that the EC05 roms like to advertise being ciq free, but the newer Eg22 and EH06 roms don't seem to say anything about removing said spy software. Is it safe to assume that these roms are ciq free, or should I just stick with EC05 if I want my privacy?...

CIQ is disabled by default. The real worry is that in future devices it may not be. That said, there is a great amount of effort towards removing it unlikely to be applied towards gb until we have an official release.

Why the concern if it is disabled?
After all, you can jump ship back to a non-CIQ ROM if it ever gets turned on, but in the meantime, you could enjoy the latest builds w/o any worries

Yup. Nobody'll ever see that data (except a bored IT guy who'd get fired if he admitted to looking) unless you actually do something illegal which requires it to be reviewed. Or a terrorist. Or you pissed off a fed.
But I doubt anyone will see the data before it's deleted after however long they have to keep it.
The way I understand it, the fact that it is "off" in current ROMS is very misleading.
The LOCAL logging is turned off, but the system is still very much active doing what Sprint intends it to do and is most assuredly not under the control of the owner of the phone.
That is simply not acceptable. I wish the press would get hold of that information and shame the company into removing it. This type of [email protected] needs to be halted... there needs to be some type of consumer protection that slaps companies that lock us out of our own electronics and put software in that allows control without our acceptance or acknowledgement. People just simply do not get pissed off enough about it and the lack of uproar allows it to keep going.

I don't much mind GOOGLE knowing everything about me. At least they are upfront about that fact. But, as I recall, CIQ is a SPRINT app, and SPRINT has kept CIQ's existence on the down low. It's bad enough that they behave as if my phone is still their property such that they reserve the right/ability to watch what I do, I don't like that they are so secretive about it.
If they're so secretive about this, who knows what OTHER things they've got on the backburners, eh?
CIQ was a drain on battery and resources. Spyware? Maybe. But I don't know that I want out on my phone even if it isn't. AOSP is the best.

Hi all
Just got an Inc 2. why else would I be posting here ,,,, anyhow I gotta have root mainly just to remove bloat, really undecided on which way though, HTC unlock or a full S off through the downgrade revolutionary method, I'm not realy a flashaholic, I would like to be able to use set CPU or the likes, for battery savings and maybe a little overclocking, phone seems pretty responsive if you ask me just coming from an Eris but I haven't loaded any apps on it yet either, heck I haven't even activated it yet (guess it's a little hard to let Ginger go ) I'd post a screen shot of her but she's a little shy.
So what's everyone thoughts on this if you had just recieved a brand new Incredible 2, with 2.3.4 Gingerbread, 5.10.605.9, 2.6.35.9 kernel; and now the news of Official ICS update soon to be released which way would you go to root HTC or S off?
Can you overclock/undervolt stock kernel?
Is it possible to flash a different kernel?
Any and all input on this will be greatly appriciated, Thanks In Advance

You're gonna wanna downgrade and s-off. It's easier to flash ROMs, also you can flash radios that way. It's a slightly longer process to do so, but its worth not spending extra time when flashing ROMs. Mainly because you have to flash the kernel in fastboot if you use HTC unlock.

Thanks for your quick response, thats just it I'm not realy a flashaholic and if I see a rom that I would like to flash, a little extra work wouldn't bother me stability speed and no issues have presedence for me, not worried about look at what I got, just overall balanced goodness

It doesn't. It downgrades the hboot version. Now, if you s-off, you can flash any radio you wish. The recommended one is either the latest .1111 or .0722.

Yes I have the latest.1111 with 2.3.4 Gingerbread, 5.10.605.9, kernel 2.6.35.9, it downgrades more than just the hboot doesn't it? I thought it downgraded the whole OS.
It will put you back to 2.2 or 2.3 I think but it does not affect radio. You van then flaws one of the rooms based off the latest stock update ( what you have) if that's what you want. Also, you can't oc stock kernel, use dresdills 21. Also if u use the HTC method you are guaranteed void warranty cause they know what you done. If you use other method you can revert to completely stock if you need too and they will never know if you need to because of hardware issues. Charging ports have been known to go bad so I would keep that in mind...

Yes I've heard about that kernel, I'm pretty sure that once you root they know it cause all there tracking, or most of there tracking software goes offline for them, and they know that the only reason, for the most part, that the phone dissapeared is root. I thought htc unlock still gave you a warranty although more limitted. And yes I learned from the Eris when the phone is on the charger be extra extra carefull with it, even if it meens don't touch it.
Root doesn't take out anything, and I'm not sure what tracking your referring to anyways. The only way anything would be took out is if you do it, or the rom you install does. If they know you done it, and you think it may be more limited, that's just a way of saying now we have a reason to deny you anytime we feel like it. But if your set on that, do it, not gonna argue its your phone could care less, you wanted opinions you got it, either way good luck...

I never said that root in and of itself took out anything, it's the stuff we take out once we root. Your not sure what tracking I'm referring to, Look up Carrier IQ .
I charged this phone turned it on bypassed activation shut off the networks just to play around with it and it was still reporting network traffic, How, Why?
This phone has the ability to get past the switch thats thrown when you shut off your data connections. I did just activate the phone, I had forgot to turn data back on before doing so, but it didn't matter; after phone booted up and was settling in I saw the 3g icon pop up in the status bar, thats what reminded me, [I thought I shut that off] and sure enough it was still off, yet it still sent data, but where to? I'm not set on anything yet, yes I'm trying to get many opinions and I thank you for your input this phones been out for a while now and many things have changed since it was first released, like ICS, and htc unlock of the hboot. Much of the activity about rooting this phone is a year or more old and with the deals and such that are being thrown around now to move the remaning stock off shelves there will be ( I'm sure ) many newcomers to the phone and this forum so an updated collection of thoughts on this I figured would be welcome especially if there was some input from the veterans of this phone. And again thank you

Rooting and sprint

After talking with some sprint tech's for a while about issues not only in my area but with the phone in general I found out that they can very very easily find out if you are rooted with a click of a button. I noticed that every single rom that I have ever used always says the name of the rom in the build number area of phone info menu. That is an easy way for sprint to see that you are rooted. Any way to change that or can't rom devs just not edit that part with the name of their rom? I know what rom I'm using, why does it need to be there?
Rom developers do that so they can ID the rom for a reason; and if you're dumb enough to bring it in rooted and the check to see your system, of course they are going to know, a five year old could tell the difference. Either put on a stock rooted rom, change the build prop, or unroot period.

+1... even if that was left totally stock named, and the rom looked like a stock sprint rom, they could still tell you were rooted... all they would have to do is look on your sd card, or look for apps that only work if your rooted such as superuser, rootuninstaller or any file explorer... take the extra minute and unroot to take your phone in.

It's usually a good idea to
1. S-On the phone
2. Flash an unrooted stock rom
3. switch SD cards
4. Uninstall or do not install any apps requiring root permissions
5. Lock your market (with an app protector)
before taking it into any Sprint Store for service.

Rom developers do that so they can ID the rom for a reason; and if you're dumb enough to bring it in rooted and the check to see your system, of course they are going to know, a five year old could tell the difference. Either put on a stock rooted rom, change the build prop, or unroot period.

I'm not the dumb one here. Assuming always makes an ass out of someone. And it's not me.
The rom dev needs to ID them for what reason? I understand needing to identify the rom from others but I'm not seeing a reason that they need to ID it in this way.

Must be contagious around here. If I was having problems with the phone in general I would first dump the rom and go back to stock to see if it was a issue with the rom or the phone. Common sense.
It was a phone call to sprint about network issues. About towers that were not working correctly and the tech I talked to at the Kansas center over all network issues could see **ALL** history of the phones ROM. Didn't matter what rom I curently had on the phone. It gets logged into the system. PERIOD. He told me it was rooted and told me the name of the rom installed and what day it was installed. I was kind of blown away.
I didn't walk into a store and say here's my rooted phone, fix it. Never heard of anyone unrooting a phone to call in about network issues. EVER! All I'm asking is is there a simple way to change the info that the Sprint system would see when it gathers the info about the phone to avoid detection of being rooted and a non stock rom installed. That's all. I understand you have life issues and feel angry at the world and need to make an ass out of yourself but if you can not just answer simply then just don't answer.

No.
Thats the most insane thing ive ever heard. IM almost 100% sure that sprint can't read your ROM details. In fact in order for them to even trouble shoot over the air, they would need your permission to link to your phone using the main network. So dude im kinda sure that your back pedalling a little here after some responses. For future reference try wording your ?'s so they represent your intentions or future actions. Dont get all boohoo on us when you receive a little criticism. The way you are posting gives the impression that you blindly walked into a sprint store without unrooting. Next time just tell us what needs to be done ask for some help and someone will def hook you up right.

It may sound insane to you but that doesn't change the fact that its true. I know what the guy said on the phone. He said exactly what rom I had installed. You're kind of sure? So you have no idea what you're talking about you so you assume something? Lol The way that you are posting indicates you just want to start something with someone for no reason. Stop trolling and move on to the next thread.
They don't need any permission to link to your phone. They own the rights to access your phone by way of the contract you have with them. They have every right to check the connection between the towers and the phone. By doing that info gets logged to the system about the device connected.
I talked to tech's in the Kansas center that deals with network issues. These are not standard lvl 1 tech's. This guy called me back days later and dealt with me about the towers in my area that were under performing. I gave him my signal strength at multiple locations and he would (on his end) zoom into on each location and look at what was going on at each tower. Explaining to me that the tower at my work was 1.2 miles away and at that distance I should have full signal and even rolled out a van to not only check the strength in the parking lot of my office but various spots in that towers coverage. Determining that the tower had very low strength and needed to be addressed. Also figuring out that my phone was having signal issues near my home which was in range of 5 towers. I'm not back pedaling at all. I know what I'm talking about and i have no reason to ask a question with false pretense to get an answer that would not be pertaining to my actual issue. But since you like to assume everything just assume I didn't respond to your thread and troll some where else.
Wow trolling huh I simply stated what was present. In no way was I even been harsh. In fact I was referencing the way you worded your post that was causing the reactions you recieved. Like I said you had to have given them permission to link to your phone.....So that being said your gonna have a very hard time on xda when you bash people for heading you in the right direction. Good luck with being like that...

I was under the impression that sprint serviced rooted phones, is this incorrect?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA
Yes, most will. Unless you get some ahole (which has never happened to me). I've had hardware pieces replaced countless times in the last 18mo., and have NEVER unrooted. I do think the key, though is it's always been for hardware issues (primarily screens and cameras).
Hell, last time I took it in, I had ICS on it. Techs thought it was pretty cool.

why dont you quit being an ass and take the advice given to you... and yes you do appear to be the idiot here. everyone is just giving you the reason, if you want the real reason, ask a developer why. If you are that worried about it maybe you shouldnt be rooting. We try to be helpful here and look at what happens. If you dont like it here JUST LEAVE and take your idiotic comments/questions somewhere else. I am sure you will fit in on some of the other forums much better. And I always wondered why people flamed and bashed SHESH! I now know why. You try to help someone out with suggestions and answers and they get an attitude... to all those people i say F**K OFF!

Did you read the thread at all? You're the idiot. Only one person answered the question, Shortydoggg. Everyone else assumed I took it into a store and didn't answer anything. As stated above, you do not need to remove root. Don't be a troll. You need to get out into the real world and leave your moms basement bud.

I'm not sure I gave permission. I was speaking to the guy on the phone and he was looking into different things and asked if i had updated to the most recent OTA update. Then proceeded to tell me it looked like I was rooted and had a modded rom. That was it, he didn't ask permission to access my phone.
You said I was back pedaling and that i was boohooing. Umm ya trolling! Being harsh whatever you want to call it. I didnt come after you, you came after me.

The point i was trying to make is, what does it matter what it says? if you dont like htey way devs make their roms, maybe you should make your own. Gotta love your maturity level here. You will not get the type of assistance you require here with this type of bashing and attitude.
Nope it needs to be unrooted and s off. I kinda agree with the other guy here mate. Your
post does suggest what he says it does. And flaming people for pointing things out like is f'd up. You need to-be able to handle constructive criticism to be on xda. Peeps here have heard it all,and don't take kindly to noobs acting in such a manner trust me on this one. Restrict yourself to just simply stating what and why, and you'll always be right. Cheers mate.

Pull Wi-Fi calling into custom rom

Can We discuss how the wi-fi calling works, and if it is possible to put that portion of the software into a custom rom like CM? Im not a developer but i would love to be a test monkey and do what i can. Im assuming the wi-fi feature is not an apk and is deeper than that ?
Wifi calling isn't brand new in the Note 3. And it's never, across all iterations, been ported to an AOSP rom. It's not going to happen. But, at least you made a thread in the development section asking for something obviously widely wanted to happen. Maybe this is the spark needed.

i have asked around and not been able to find a rom with it enabled.. and i dont understand why not. its a GREAT feature.. practically the only reason i went t-mobile.. im willign to dig in my phone and find what I need if someone will direct me. Im not completely technically illeterate but not a code writer either.
well.. i guess Jedi has it so that might be the best choice for now..
In the sensation and nexus 4 threads, we tried everything. Im guessing its still nearly impossible.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
It's baked within the framework of the system. If you do a search you'll find threads here where people have worked on this and gotten almost nowhere. I believe there's also a bounty thread somewhere to get this to happen. I think that was in the nexus 4 area.

The N4 never came with it in any form. Since the note comes with it at least in touchwiz, in theory there may be hope.

I read on the at&t note 1 that wifi calling is build into the framework.
The only way I was able to get wifi calling on the I717 is flashed a t mobile stock yo it
@ OP - I hear that. That would open a much needed can of worms. My guess is it has something to do with One or all three of the circled jar files. I am also no code writer but would also be willing to test this out.
Edit: "don't have permission to attach pictures" under /system/framework, the files I am referring to are...
TmoWfcUtils.jar
voip-commo.jar
telephony.jar
This is only a suggestive starting point if someone does take this on. I really don't know if it would be possible, as it may be patented by t mobile, and that could be why it hasn't been done already...?

lots of other phones have come with it and gotten no where, I'm actually really confident this will never happen without a change from T-mobile side.
and believe me..I desperately want it, I have to use wifi calling most of the day, would love some aosp rom fun too
trust me...if I could do this it would already been done...I am speaking for all of the devs also...
I use wifi calling, in the rare times I do TALK on my phone. Imagine that. Haha.
Anyways, I will probably run a similar setup on my GN3 when I receive it. On my GN2, I have been running stock deodexed, rooted, rom with NOVA Launcher. No complaints. Having the setup I really had no need to switch to anything else. I have, in the past, flashed many roms on previous phones, trying to find "the one" best rom.
I could probably do without wifi calling, but I use my s-pen all the time.
That is STRICTLY a TMO feature, and CAN NOT be implemented into ANY other rom other than the tmo official releases, if this could have been done, it would have been accomplished at least back to the G3 days....they still have not figured that one out yet.
