[Q] Backing up a broken phone - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I just dropped my phone and the screen has come completely out of its housing. The phone still powers up, but the screen does not work at all. My question is, is it possible with a rooted phone(which mine is) to make a backup through clockworkmod without the screen on? Thanks!

Sure,
-With the phone off, hold the volume down button and press the power button till it turns on (1-2 sec). This brings up your HBOOT screen (or would if it was on).
-Wait for 15 seconds (this allows it to check for the PBIMG that should NOT be on your SD)
-Press the volume down button once then the power button once (this selects RECOVERY and reboots into it).
-Wait 20 seconds (gives time to bring up recovery menu)
-Press volume down 5 times then power once (selects "backup and restore")
-Press power button again (selects "backup")
-Leave phone for AT LEAST 10 minutes.
-Pull your SD and see if there is a backup file in your clockwork/ folder with the current date on it. BAM, you got your backup.
Let me know if that works for you

Are you able to see anything on your display or is the touchscreen portion not working?
If the screen does not work at all (no video) you are SOL. To do what TheAtheistReverend suggested you have to have video on the display.

I found a backup from MIUI which was really all I needed. Thanks for the help though, hopefully it will help someone else.

[Q] Boot Menu buttons gone or boot menu skipped?

Hello folks,
I installed the following rom today. Knowing that its a developer rom I realy wanted to try it out. And its working like a charm, but...
now i got 1 problem.
I cant get into the boot menu anymore.
Normally I had to press (power + volume down) to get into the boot menu. Its not responding anymore when i press those buttons.
But the power button also reacts completely different now.
Before I had to press the power button shortly to start the operating system. Now i have to hold it for a little while (which is of course very good, prevents from accidentally starting your device when its for example in ur pocket).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1040121&highlight=sense+3.0
Any ideas how i can still get into the boot menu?
I got s-off and hboot data++
Thanks in advance.
Hi
Try Backbutton and Power or pull the battery and test it again whit power + vol down.
Pulling the battery out seemed to do the trick. Any idea how come? Do i have to pull out the battery everytime i want to go in boot modus now (as some sort of protection) or was the system just stuck?
Anyway thanks a lot!
Edit: Yes it seems that i have to pull out the battery everytime now. But the operating system seems to be starting a looooot faster.
i have the same Problem whit my Device- If i make it S-off i come never in my Recovery- Only whit (Phone On) Powerbutton > Reboot > Recovery - or - Pull Battery
So you can't reach bootloader from phone off by using the volume down and power buttons pressed together and held for a few seconds - without pulling the battery first?
That's odd.
I think this standard entry to bootloader should remain the same regardless if any rom you flash, as flashing roms doesn't touch the bootloader at all.
Sounds like it might be fastboot doing this - Settings, Applications, Fastboot tickbox.
If checked, I see the same behavior as what you've described here.
If I take the tick out of the box, booting takes longer, but I can get into recovery/bootloader every time.

Possible to HardSPL from Android?

Hello all,
I have a kaiser that I installed Android on nand. Now, the phone will not power on when the power button is pushed after pulling the battery. When the USB cable is plugged in, a white screen flashes 10 seconds later, and it sometimes boots to android.
When I pull the battery and hold the camera button (either pushing the power button or inserting the USB cable), the phone does nothing.
If it boots to android, is it possible to hardspl from android, since I can't get to the bootloader?
Thanks
If you cannot use the power button to turn on the phone, here's what I would do:
1. get a copy of scooter1556's newest kernel with his copy of ATools from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152219
It delegates an extra 20mb from the /data partition and REALLY smoothes out the performance and makes it REALLY stable.
2. Using ATools, assign a different button for power, wether it be the "end call" button or some other button not used by android (the "soft" buttons are unused but I assign them to "vol down" and "vol up", it's your choice). Make sure you DO NOT adjust the /system-/data slider as this will really mess up the /cache partition. Follow ALL the instructions at http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/androidhtc/wiki/HowToInstallWithAtoolsNand
Again, disregard anything to do with adjusting /system or /data partitions. You get 91mb of data with this kernel, more than enough.
3.Once everything is in place (KAISIMG.NBH, andboot folder, installseq file),insert the SD card into your phone. Here is where it will get tricky. Hold the camera button and insert the USB charger. Hold the button until the phone screen flashes. If this does not force the bootloader, just hit the reset button with the stylus (on the bottom just next to the USB port, above and to the right).
If this procedure doesn't work, IDK which direction to point you other than finding another kaiser on [email protected] or something to use for parts and have someone fix yours or fix it yourself.
I think the issue is quite simple. Your battery is completly empty. Plug in the charger, the phone will flash, let it be, and wait about 10 minutes. IF the charging led is on then, power the kaiser and let it charge all the way.

HTC Desire HD won't boot up (rooted)

My friend gave me HTC Desire HD (for free) saying I could keep it. It worked for about a month and then out of nowhere just stopped working.
I tried:
- Holding power button
- Holding power + volume button
- Holding power + other volume button
But nothing happens.
When I connect it to USB cable, an orange dot starts blinking on the left top of the phone and ClockWorkMod opens (note: I'm not pressing ANY button, it opens itself).
But after Clockworkmod opens, it closes before I can get to do anything. Clockworkmod is there for about 5-10 seconds and then the phone shuts back down and I need to reconnect it to usb cable again to show clockworkmod again, or sometimes the clockworkmod shows itself back again for no reason.
I tried doing some stuff like installing rom from sdcard, but clockwork mod closes before I can even choose any option, or even if I do get to choose it, the screen turns black again in the middle of the operation.
I sadly don't have any other info on the phone at the moment because my friend isn't available, All I can tell is that the ClockworkMod is version v5.0.2.7 and it says "Ace hack kit" with blue font in the middle of the screen.
I need the phone for development purposes so it would be really great if someone could help me fix it, any idea what could be wrong? thank you!
EDIT: I also have no information on which ROM was on that phone and if it is really rooter or not (but since there is ClockworkMod on it I'm almost sure it was rooted, I don't know much about that stuff though so I can't say anything

Can you get to fastboot if you hold down vol down while you plug it in (from completely off)? This would help to get some more info on the phone status.

HTC Desire 820n one sim restarts continuously - stuck in boot logo, loop, help me plz

I have been using my HTC Desire 820 for the past 2 years. It was updated to Marshmallow two months back.
All of a sudden my phone had a restart. Ever since, it turns on - gets stuck in the logo - restarts. This has been happening in a loop.
Totally stuck with the problem.
Thanks
I'm no expert but...
Have you tried plugging in the charger? Forcefully turning off the device (long press the power button until screen is totally off)?
Do you imply that the software is official (updated over OTA from the settings), or did you mess with the device? (install custom ROM/recovery etc.)
After turning it off, maybe try to turn it on by pressing both the power button and volume down, until it goes into HBOOT menu (example image https: //forums .androidcentral.com/attachments/htc-one-m8/144676d1414689464t-htc-one-tampered-locked-security-warning-imag2693.jpg - delete the spaces). From here, you may try to access the recovery (navigate with volume buttons), and after entering recovery hold down power and volume down buttons for about 5-10 seconds, release, and you should see a menu. You may try to clear the cache.
Alternatively, if you are willing to lose the data on your phone, you can do a factory reset from hboot.
Hope this helps.

How to reliably start TWRP

I have TWRP installed, and have managed to run it a few times. Now I cannot start TWRP at all.
From off, if I switch on, the following happens:
1) Screen with Samsung Galaxy A70 - Secured by Knox
2) 0.5 seconds later another screen, "this phone's bootloader is unlocked and it software integrity. .." and "press power key to continue..."
3) 5 seconds later, same screen as (1)
4) 3 seconds later, red letters "this phone is not running Samsung's official software"
5) 3 seconds later blank screen with "samsung" and then booting to android.
In my experience I have to flash twrp every time I want to use it( I don't know the reason but I couldn't fix it ) , for booting twrp on the other hand I turn off the phone first, then I press power button+volume down until the "this phones bootloader..." screen appears, here is the tricky part, you have to quickly let go of these two buttons, press power button, let go of the power button (after the warning disappeared) and then press volume down button (and hold it) until twrp logo appears, this happens really fast so you may need to do it a few times to get used to it.

Yes, same here, the only time I have managed to run TWRP on this phone, is right after a flash.

Do you mean volume down?

Power off the device, plug into a pc, wait for it to start charge, hold vol up and power till it turns on. Wala boots to twrp. If you have magisk installed, you can use the reboot option within magisk.

Samsung changed how to enter recovery on Android 11. Power off device, plug into pc, wait for it to charge, then hold vol up and power till it turns on. Alternatively, if you have magisk installed, use the reboot options within magisk.
I did that. Thanks!
But it has gone to:
Android Recovery
Samsung /a70qxx/a70q
11/RP1A.200720.012./A705FNXXUB5DVB3
user/release-keys
Use volume up/down and power.
Reboot system now
Reboot to bootloader
Apply update from ADB
Apply update from SD card
Wipe date/factory reset
...
...
...
Where is TWRP? It seems it's gone.

That's because you're not installing it properly go back to my guide and follow it exactly and stop listening to these other people. I've been modding this device since it first came out with Android 9, I know every inch of this device. You're getting confused by what other people are telling you

It fails here, on this step. After successful flash of recovery.tar, power + vol down to reboot, cable still connected, nothing you can do now can bring TWRP up. The phone boots into Android.
EDIT: I think I have now got it. I will update in a few mins.

After successful flash of recovery.tar, power and vol down to reboot, as soon as the phone screen goes blank, immediately release all keys and press and hold vol up. Must be as soon as screen goes blank. The device will then reboot twice and land you in twrp splash screen. You must hit vol down and power after successful flash then when screen blanks, vol up. If you miss this step, twrp will not hold and revert back to stock recovery.
Here is the notes I made today:
****************************************************************
INSTALL + START TWRP
phone is off
press up + dn
insert cable
go into download (press up)
ODIN 3.14 + AP:tar(vbmeta.img+twrp.img), auto reboot off, press upload
when it succeeds, press dn + pwr until it reboots
then quickly up + pwr until it starts (no need to hold down)
this starts in TWRP
from powered off
press pwr button
goes into twrp or android(system) -- depending on what was used last time
if we used reboot->system last time it will now **Always** go into system!
to go back into twrp:
switch off
power cable until charge
pwr + up until it starts
****************************************************************
The above means that you CANNOT go back to TWRP unless you have a cable and a PC near by.
