Hey all,
So i'm pretty new to all this phone tweaking but ive managed to try out a few things. A week back i flashed a new rom(bionix rom) onto my galaxy s i9000 through clockwork and i've managed to mess up my phone a little. After successfully flashing the rom i couldn't get 3g data and charge my phone or connect it to a computer. When i plug my phone into charging/computer it turns off and then gets itself into a phone charging loop. I then went back to the most recent backup rom(using clockwork) i made hoping it would fix the problem, but its still there. Later i realised the rom i flashed was made for another model of the phone, which uses a different band. When i go into settings, about phone it says the current band is T959 ( which is the vibrant), but i'm pretty sure thats the wrong band! The thing is i can still use my phone, it still turns on fine so its not bricked i guess? I can still play games, send texts, use wifi etc but i just can't use 3g data or connect it to a computer. I'm wondering if anyone has encountered a similar problem and would know how to fix it!
Thanks!
Pretty simple.. do a clean flash (re-partition checked, pit file selected) with any other firmware.
this will wipe all your data though, so make sure you make a backup
You use odin to do this?
I've thought of that but i cant connect phone to computer without it turning off :S
just use the search function... it's simple flashing... there are tons of tutorials for each single firmware (including which pit file to use and where to download)
I know that, but how can i use odin if i cant connect my phone to the pc?
did you actually try if the problem is the same when the phone is in downloadmode?
alternatively you could connect to adb through wifi (there is an app for that) push some rom that flashes through clockwork (tayatumas does i think) and flash it. might.fix your problem

I read something about not using a computer to root; but I could not find anything on getting back to stock without a computer (the question was posed on a few different sites).
My only thought would be to have someone on stock rom, to root and do a backup with CWM; then copy that backup folder off their phone to someplace you could download it using your phone (like google documents).
then you could boot to recovery and flash EXT42RFS.zip from :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109362
then use cwm to restore from that backup and it would put stock ec05 on your phone; seemingly back to stock except for the recovery.
thats what i was thinking also couldnt find a downloadable back up to put on to my phone if any one is willing to help me with a flashable backup for clockwork mod im using version 3.0.0.6 i think
Similar issue.

As far as I know there is no way to unroot without a computer. However you can make it look like stock for the return. When you installed CWM 3.0.0.6 on your phone and it converted to EXT4 it made a nand backup called beforeEXT4conversion or something like that. Restore that nand and do a factory data reset from inside settings>privacy on your phone.

Who knows, that may also fix your phone to connect again. Does it make the connection noise on the computer? If so, go into Control Panel, System, Device Manager and look for something connected to your USB or Other. It will probably say Samsung Android. Choose Update Drivers on that and it will take about 10 minutes to get the drivers and install and you should be able to work from the computer again.

Hi guys!
So, I have 3 problems with my new Xperia Arc smartphone :
1. When I turn on USB Tethering on phone, the internet disappears from my PC but I still can't use it on phone. When I try to use Browser it says that there is no internet connection (I did exactly everything what's mentioned on SE website).
BTW, with other phones (HTC Desire S, Desire HD, Sensation) everything worked perfectly.
2. When I turn on WiFi in my phone and try to link my google acc with Xperia Arc, for Market using, it starts loading, but every single time I get error, and it says that my access information is wrong or there's something wrong with settings (advices me to do the Factory Reset or use warranty fixing.
3. When I use default Browser with WiFi and I'm trying to download any apk app or game Browser crashes and I only can Force Close it
Any ideas or advices?
P.S. I don't have WiFi router ant home, so I need to use USB Tethering
P.P.S. Phone is rooted
P.P.P.S. Hope YOU will understand what I said here and Huge Apology for my bad english - Sorry
1. Your english is good.
2. Have you modified your phone in any way? Is it a standard rom, no scripts/build prop edits etc.
3. Any carrier issues re tethering?

Ok. Simple things first, have you changed the connection settings on your pc to identify a 3g modem(arc)?
Regarding the market, make sure time&date are correct

Sorry, bit too much whisky last night...
first, check your internet connection on your pc/laptop and ensure it's using the arc as a 3g modem. If no then change settings, if yes then the next step should resolve it;
Your phone is rooted but the bootloader is locked, yes? Flash .42 firmware, using flashtool (If you use pc companion you may flash .58/.62/.69, which can't be rooted yet). Boot phone and retry

Same here. It worked for me on 4.2 but 4.2.1 doesn't allow me to turn on BT
I had broken Bluetooth when I upgraded from 4.1 to 4.2. To fix it I had do a clean install of the stock ROM via fast boot (NOTE: it wipes everything).
Instructions to do that are floating around in here but if you can't find them let me know.
Adam.

I just did a clean install of 4.2 via fastboot using the image from Googles site, then upgraded OTA to 4.2.1
If you are in 4.2.1 and your Bluetooth does not work here is what worked for me: IT WORKS ONLY IF YOU HAVE UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER AND FASTBOOT SET ON YOUR PC. Download the 4.2.1 factory image from Google yakju or takju depends what you have. Then with 7zip extract ALL the compressed files until you have the file named system.img . Put the system.img file in your fastboot folder and boot your Gnex in bootloader. Then open a terminal in fastboot folder and flash the system image with the command : fastboot flash system system.img. After finishing, reboot and the Bluetooth should be fine. At least that worked for me. WARNING! YOU WILL LOSE ROOT AND OTA ROOTKEEPER BACKUP IF YOU DO THIS SO YOU HAVE TO REROOT. You will not lose data and all your settings doing this. For further explanations and guides about flashing refer to efrant's guides and threads.

Awesome, this fixed it for me! Although your instructions were a bit to vague for a novice user like me, I managed to get the fix working on Windows with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus Toolkit V10.4.0 (www skipsoft net):
Download the Factory Image (https //developers google com/android/nexus/images)
Extract the tgz-file (with WinRAR or 7-zip.org)
In the extracted files, find a zip file (in my case image-yakju-jop40d.zip) and extract it.
Copy the system.img to the "put_img_files_to_flash_here" directory in the Samsung Galaxy Nexus Toolkit directory (in my case C:\Galaxy Nexus ToolKit\put_img_files_to_flash_here)
Now start the toolkit and select your device model (in my case "7. Android 4.2.1 (Build JOP40D)"
Choose option "11. Boot or Flash .img Files to Device [Fastboot Mode]"
Make sure "system.img" is displayed as available image file
Type "system.img" (or s* for short) to select it
Now follow the instructions. I can't redo them to document... They are clear. But give it some time, it will reboot once or twice and return to the Fastboot menu.
After flashing system.img, the device is unrooted, so you have to root again. You can do it your way, or use the toolkit option:
"4. Root or UnRoot your Device [Fastboot Mode]"
Then choose your favorite option. I chose option 1, because I already had it rooted before.
After these steps, you have your root back and a working bluetooth!
Thanks gialakias!
Confirmed
I also had bluetooth issues after reluctantly accepting the 4.2.1 ota. I lived without bluetooth for a while, but then finally had enough of the seeming joke google played. After considering aokp, for now the solution was reflashing the system.img from the google developers site. Works like a charm now, and i do not know why i had the issue in the first place. Again, a confirmation that a reflash of the system image via fastboot will fix your bluetooth.
Guys, this only applies to factory rom, right? Só I guess I can't do this using a custom rom...
I'm tempted to install Google factory image to see if it fixes the annoying issue...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I'd think a factory image on a custom rom would only cause problems. Perhaps you could unzip the custom rom zip, and find the system image to reflash. Either that, or its likely a known bug on that rom. What rom are you using, and is it a nightly?
Confirmed II
@ Gnoise: Thx: for your good How-To!
This solution works for me, too! :victory:
Hi All,
i have similar problem, but BT was working more or less fine. Only hang up few times. But main problem is that i could not use BT in my car any more. Phone connecting to car with no problem, and i could receive calls from anybody, but as only i try to call from phone, not from car HF system, i get problems. While phone dialing, it happens in background mode, car audio system working, but as only recipient answer the call, Gnex turning his internal speaker, but not the car's HF system, like it was on 4.0.4 - 4.1.2. I flashed custom rom - the same problem, then i download and flash stock rom again, and nothing happens. Does it helps if i now reflesh system.img
p.s.
I asking because i gave Gnex to the warranty service (with all above mentioned explanation) and they gave me back Gnex with 4.0.4 and claim them for that. now i don't want to flash 4.2.1 until they response.
thank you

I have the exact same issue with my car kit since 4.2.1 and am about to reflash my system.img... I'll let you know what the results are.
I actually re-imaged the system.img and it seems a bit better now... It still loses it's connection after a while and it could be after 2 minutes or after 60 minutes. Once the connection is flaky or broken, I cannot connect to my carkit anymore and the weird things is, no other phone can connect until i completely reset my carkit. It seems like it's messing up with either communication or whatever as it affects the way my carkit behaves afterwards.

Hi everybody.
Im writing this post because im having several problems with my cellie that seems be related with its USB port.
First at all, i try to connect it to the PC, but it only detect it like a battery charger, then i cant connect it to flashtools to reflash it or whatever...
Later, i showed in the installed rom at that moment that the batteri log show it like charging everytime, so I suposed that the problem could be with the rom, then I reflashed it with other rom by CWM, and showing that it doesn't solve it I tryed to restore a stock backup by CWM too.
It doesnt solve it too...
So now, im having an impasse with this problem & i want to solve it.
In addition i can say that this problem is causing a fast discharge of battery everytime (i supose it happens because the cellie detect that it stills charging so it could be derivated of this previous problem.
Can anyone help me with this problem??
Im thinking to sent it to the hot service, but because i cant access to it with flashtools i dont know how can i reblock the bootloader for doing use of guarantee.
Can anyone help me to reblock it by CWM or something similar?
thank you very much for your time reading this report
and sorry about my english
try this
try repairing with the sony companion tool , if that doesent fix it , then the sony connection service app may have broken ,
app replacement
download a stock rom
find the com.sonyericsson.conectivitycentre.apk app (in the rom you just downloaded)
copy that app to your /system
delete the com.sonyericson.connectivitycentre.odex
and reboot
Still if the issue is still there , send your xperia for repairs
