Dinc vs dinc II - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Would you guys get an incredible or incredible II? (yes I know there are newer phones) and why?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda premium

Personally I would go with the dINC 1
Reasons:
1) Cheaper
2) Lots more mods to boost performance, battery, customization.
Reason for getting #2:
1) Better battery (maybe not, if compared to a dINC 1 with mods/kernels/etc)
2) Front facing camera

Really? Are you talking stock or rommed? Are clock speeds and ram the same?

Newest Google Map version 6.0 will have interior maps of shopping malls, demestic and international airports, etc....they have added Narita Airport.
Last year at Narita, i had to pay to use their wifi...regardless, a GSM world phone would eliminate that problem....
If you are lost at a foreign airport, the Incredible 2 will be the better choice.
I want to consider it because i do travel to Japan and other places, i dont get lost there though~ Might be handy for people combined w/ new google maps version?

The battery life in stock form is better on the inc2. With that being said I have cm7.1 nightly installed on my inc1 and its faster by a good bit then my bosses inc2. We get about the same battery life.
If it was up to me I would probably get the inc2, strip the fat from the stock rom and enjoy the front camera. Thats the one thing I miss about the bionic (which is sitting deactivated on my kitchen table), the camera. Just too many software bugs on it for it to be useable.

It's a close match after you dive into the modifications for each phone. Although the dINC 2 has a decent community, it has no where near the kernels, ROMs and support this one has. I'd say if price is any sort of factor than the dINC #1 is your choice.
If you don't care at all about price then you may want to go with #2 due to the slightly faster CPU, slightly larger screen, front facing camera, GSM capability, and possibly slightly better battery life (debatable after rooted mods).
If you like doing any sort of mods or customizations to your phone, dINC #1 is again your choice. #2 has a significantly smaller selection and less developmental support.
Don't let this phone being a bit older scare you away, it will easily stand for a few more years and still considered be a good phone to have.
so I guess it's down to what you have to spend and what you're really looking for.

EVO shift? Or just preference?

Okay, so I was thinking about getting the EVO shift because I miss my rant but I refuse to get an Epic. Also, I realize I don't use the FFC or the kickstand. I love the camera and idk whether the evo shift has a worse or better one. I also want a faster device with better battery because no matter how hard I try I can't get good battery on the evo. I can't seem to get used to the size in my pocket but it would be cool if I had a leather case.
Anyway I just would like some insight on which is the better choice for me. I'm confused at how shift is faster w/less ram?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Well the shift has a second generation snapdragon processor. It's more efficient. That's why its faster. Well if you like a slide out key board the shift will be perfect for you.
The EVO you wish you had
Well to your first question, the shift was a worse camera, 5MP compared tot he regular 8MP. The shift IS the evo...just a smaller screen, lesser camera, and an actual keyboard.
On the Evo i can go all day without charging, running CM7 with a savaged zen kernel.
I just don't wanna have to get an extended battery to enjoy my phone. It is big enough lol. I'm not sure about the camera but so far things seem like the shift is better for my preference. Do they have root yet?

yes they do, it was rooted on day one
I have a question about the shift as well, firstly doesnt the shift use a gpl instead of hardware for the graphics? Gpl should be smoother for scrolling if im not mistaken. I am probably going to get one because i am putting my parents on my plan and using my plan and giving my evo to my dad.
Sent from my Evolution
my dad has had the phone for about two weeks and loves it. He has stated many times that he has never been happier. Though that is coming from a samsung moment. As far as root, they have released it, but it is very hard to do unless your good with rooting. My dad's phone doesn't even need the root because his phone is lightning fast and has very good battery life, about two full days on a charge. After all of that still love my evo, and the great developers for the evo. But if you want the keyboard. I would get the Shift, it just makes sense!!
So I am comparing this experience to the one I had with psp. The fatter one had more mods but wasn't as fast. The slim was faster and smaller with better battery. Especially if you used the bigger battery. The evo shift comes with the 1500 but I'll be using the 1800 and my 16gb card. Not crazy about the d pad thing but for having a keyboard its cool. So, any other opinions?

I say stick with the big brother, how the Evo was meant to be. Pure awesomeness, not modded awesome for great.

Whats more important, battery life or keyboard?
If its battery life I would try to figure out why your phones doesnt last all day.
If you want a keyboard, the switch is obvious.
Shift is a nice phone I got one for the wife. If you don't mind a smaller screen and you want a keyboard then its the way to go. Honestly though no phone is going to run 12 hours non stop and not kill the battery. The wife seems to make it through the day but if you run it like I run my EVO the battery last about the same. It's advantages are a more efficient processor and a smaller screen that would use less power because its smaller. It does run a solid 60 fps out of the box .
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA
Battery life is more important. I'm looking for 15 hours. Not continuous use but at least moderate. I need to work a whole day and the phone not be dead without having to turn off all the radios.

I don't need 4g, it tends to waste my time and money even when I'm in Chicago to use it. I don't mind using juice to attain 15 hours but for done reason juice only gives me 1.08x.

The shift has 2gb emmc/512mb ram, the evo has 1gb rom/512mb ram. So they have the same amount of ram. The shifts processor is clocked 200mhz less than the evo but because of the architecture, is going to be negligibly faster. You wouldn't notice.
I myself hate wear parts like trackballs, slide mechanisms, hardware keyboards... etc.
slide mechanisms and hardware keyboards, what is this 2004??

Would you trade your INC2

Just curious to see if any of you would trade your inc2 for a droid charge.
Why and why not?
Reason being is that I bought a charge, great phone good development (I'm not going to do a versus battle here they are both great phones but suited for different people) but it is just too bulky when in pocket for me at least so I'm thinking of maybe selling it and getting the inc2 or maybe just trading it with someone, of course it would have to be a local trade.
Let's hear it.
lol hell nah Charge doesn't have one AOSP GB. I got my SRSWOW sound so I don't miss Voodoo Sound that much either.
Samoled is overrated. I've used it for more than a year and I like the screen on Dinc2 better. You wouldn't see the true awesomeness of Samoled when the brightness is 100% but I would never use Samoled at 100% cause it's too bright.

I'd actually trade for a thunderbolt, mostly because it basically the same except 4g and screen size, AND ROOT! The battery life isn't a problem for me.

Well the charge has root and SAMOLED screen which is a beautiful screen plus my battery lasts me all day without problems (I do not have 4g in my area so this is only in 3g and wifi). I don't know much about the TB but all I have heard is that battery life is horrible. Once again I thought about that too but it really comes down to the smaller phone.
Never. Having come from a Fascinate, I'd never own another Samsung, just too many issues and to me, the Charge is just too big. The Inc2 is absolutely perfect.
I would consider it as I'm not a fan of sense ui my whole thought process was root and Cm7 it but root is taking longer than I've seen on any device however I'm still very happy with dinc2 without root I am having withdrawals

There are a few bugs on the GB rom but nothing too bad, and yes you are right the inc2 has a great screen size and weight. I run a lot and I usually have my phone in my pocket playing pandora so the charge big for sure.
Charge is a good phone when rooted with the ext4 lagfix. I love my inc2, but a Charge wouldn't be a bad phone for someone to pick up if they're into flashing ROMs and such
Stock to Stock, I'd take the Inc2 every day and twice on sunday.

This phone already feels as if there is a custom rom running on it. But I still want root. With the Fascinate, I was addicted to Odin and flashing every twice a week. That's what I want with this phone, and that's why I would only trade for a tbolt.

I love the build quality of the Dinc2. I too came from the fassy, it felt like a toy compared to the Dinc2.
VZW sent my Dinc2 with the extended battery... It adds a little depth, but man this thing can run forever.
When I was offered the trade in options, I actually asked for the Charge. The rep told me I would have to wait 2-3 extra days and he would call me back. This all went down on 7/28 - AFTER VZW pushed the OTA fix for fassy. I said screw it, send me a Dinc. Very happy with my decision.
I love mine but I'd trade today for a Charge for the resale & 4G!
But if I had Sense 3.0 or CM7...

gnex or rezound

ok heres the deal guys a got an upgrade next month and im trying to decide between the two. my main points of interest are a soild camera both front and rear, music, speed, wireless tether, display, development, build quality, and signal aka connectivity. the only thing keeping me from going straight to the gnex atm is the camera, signal (i read alot of issues with the gnex) and the processor is a tid bit slower. dont get me wrong i love stock android over sense then again the dialer for sense is nice with the auto completion. idk i just cant decide i know ill get a more 1 sided opinion on this forum but try to be open minded on your opinions....

This solves it every time. Don't like some guys on a forum tell you what device to buy... choose what's best for you. Just be an informed consumer.
I carry both phones on a daily basis. Both of them are great devices in their own respect. The only thing I'm not in love with on my nexus is the camera. If I'm going to take a picture I'll usually reach for my Rezound first but that's about the only time I will. The battery life has been better on my Rezound also but that is mostly due to the fact that I don't use it as much as my Nexus. The Nexus feels better in my hand than the Rezound (which I also like better than the blocky Razr), I like how well it rests in my palm and also really like the curved screen. As far as processor goes there is also much more to consider than a 300mhz bump in clock speed between the two. And after using my Nexus I will never want anything other than Vanilla Android 4.0+. It pains me to use anything else. Lol.
The signal on both of them has seemed equal to me to be honest. I haven't had any of the issues other users have reported with the Nexus and both are reliable as far as network connectivity and speed. The build quality on both of them are solid. As far as music goes the Rezound does come with the beats headphones which are nice...

Sort of agree with this but sometime demo units are laggy and not a full-representation of what the phone actually is when a person is using it.

The only reasons I would see to get a rezound would be if you love sense, or if you really need a good on your phone. I was a little iffy about the nexus, but 2 weeks in I have zero regrets. But then again camera isn't that important to me.

I wouldnt want Sense or any other manufacturer skin/bloat/launcher, etc.
I have a GN and my wife has a rezound. Both are great phones. The Rezound does get a bit better reception. The screen is a matter of preference... The rezound is brighter, but the GN has richer colors.
I think the GN feels better in my hand and I personally prefer the button configuration
GN is definitely easier to root, although I did manage to unlock and rom the rezound also.
If you don't mind waiting, the Galaxy S III should be unveiled around then and may tickle your fancy. The Galaxy S II had a good camera so I would imagine that the next iteration would improve upon it

(FYI) Inc 4g has s-off coming

Does this really belong here? prolly not
but i know a lot of inc2 users dont want to upgrade and loose unlimited data, and buying phones off contract can be crazy expensive to keep it
inc4g can typically be had for under $250 on ebay/cl, and now we have s-off coming (which being locked was a major point for many to avoid the phone)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1944157
basically thought id throw this out there, for those looking for a pretty good (i love it, others refuse to use anything smaller than 4.3 inch screen these days) 4g phone that can be had off contract used for just about upgrade pricing, can now not worry about having an unrootable/locked phone :good:
it will most likely be getting official jellybean at some point, which the rezound probably wont (nothing against rezound, but that could be a deal breaker for some)
Awesome, the not unlockable at all part was definitely what had me staying away from this, I knew it'd get done eventually though, thanks for the heads up.

yeah ive had the inc4g since launch...i was one of the fortunate ones (maybe 80-100?) that got dev unlocked through htcdev when the phone was unoffiicially supported for its first 10 days post launch...after that htc killed support to it...
theory was either a) verizon told them to (verizon claims our stock release software and unlock would cause issues...according to some support folk) or b) verizon just didnt want it unlockable
in any event, it ll work out in the end, cuz we probably wouldnt have soff if we had dev unlock as andy might not have had to reach out to the i/o guys if we still had unlock...and soff is so much better
but our sense4.1/android 4.0.4 update this week contained the exploit the guys needed to get temproot and soff the device supposedly :good:
as for the device?
battery life is incredible for a 4g device...on the stock battery and kernel i get 4 hours screen on time regularly (more than my inc2), in lte coverage the whole time...radios are very good
comparing it to the inc2, i guess form factor differences would be iphone 4s vs iphone5...the inc4g is narrower, but qhd res....i happen to like the screen a lot (even though some blogs killed it)....its very responsive, and smooth (even more so now on sense4.1 vs 4.0)
Keep us posted on the s-off. Thanks nit.
Thanks for the info Justin.
Well I will certainly be getting this phone for sure.

If anyone cares for another opinion, I can pretty much confirm Justin's take on the Dinc4. I had the Dinc2 for quite a while and absolutely loved it (now my dad loves it.) I was predisposed to the Dinc4 because the form factor of the Dinc2 was perfect. Once I noticed Justin had the phone and knew it would have great ROMs, that sealed the deal. My phone arrived THE DAY HTC removed it from their unlock tool :'(
So after 3 months with the Dinc4, I'm a little baffled by the amount of negative reviews on this phone. The screen is fantastic, the camera is outstanding, and the phone (stock) is smooth and responsive. The latest update made it even better. Battery life is great. If you like your Dinc2 as much as I did and aren't looking for a phablet size device, I think this is a great upgrade.
Cheers.
+1 I just got mine and I love it. Except for the lack of root, but like nits said that will be available in the near future. The form of the phone reminds me of the og inc and I loved that lil guy
if root ever becomes available for it, i might look around to trade my dinc2 + some cash maybe, for one. dinc2 is my first Android based phone and I really love it. I even liked it on stock, but root is just amazing lol
We're told root is coming soon
Once the s-off tool is released, i'm sure root will accompany root.

yeah, just fastboot a recovery and flash a superuser package and youre set (post s-off)
I think just maybe HTC threw the dinc4g a bone. They have supported the android underground in the past. They still would if very greedy wireless hadn't stepped in.
It makes sense to me, that they released an update knowing full well that we could exploit it.
Anyone else think the same?

S-OFF was just released yesterday. I bought my One from the Rezound yesterday too
I doubt you will find too many people here suggesting the DNA. You are on a One forum
By far, the best phone I have owned and I have owned most of the "TOL" models in the last year.
I'm currently sitting on a DNA, and now that the S-off method is out, I'm seriously looking at getting the One. I'm just trying to justify the cost, as is have to pay full retail (I'm on a grandfathered unlimited plan), and it doesn't seem to be *too* significant of an upgrade over the DNA. Any thoughts?

If you can swing it, I'd say go for it! A friend has a DNA and I've had some decent hands-on with it - it's a great phone already. In my opinion, the biggest "wow" factor is going to be the audio performance. I've never been big into watching videos/Youtube on a phone up until the One. Granted, I am probably more into sound than the typical user, but still. The other thing is probably battery - a nice 280mah bump, almost 15% boost.
And I am guessing you'll probably see more developer support for the One vs DNA, just because the install base is that much bigger.

I just came from a DNA about two weeks ago. No regrets at all. It was worth the extra money between selling the DNA and getting a One for me.
The DNA is good enough if you want to save money. my Fiance has the DNA and I have the One and we're basically running the same phone, except mine is a better camera/speakers and hers is a bigger screen. The DNA and One are both very good phones, especially with Venom about to release a Sense 5 ROM for the DNA.
If you have that kind of disposable income, might as well.
Thanks for the responses guys! I went ahead and got the One last night - definitely liking it so far. I obviously haven't used it enough to definitively judge the battery, but it does seem quite good so far, even compared to my DNA which was underclocked and undervolted.
Thanks again for all your input - I really appreciate it!

It's not bad. It's quite a bit better than my evo lte though you wouldn't expect a huge difference by the specs. and the evo is on aosp whereas the one is on sense. (Thought I'd add that since the evo came with sense 4 which was a huge battery hog.) Enjoy it man.

Go with the one. It is so nice to have a premium build phone.

You think the camera on the One is better? I have much much more noise in my pictures taken with my One vs pics taken with my DNA. I am actually REALLY disappointed with the One's camera. I think going with 4MP "Ultrapixel" was a terrible idea. Speaker hype was way too much, yes better than the DNA, but way below what Beats by Dre quality should be. My beats earbuds that cam with my Rezound were beast, speakers on the One so so... I would compare it to taking the speaker from the DNA and placing two of them on the front of the phone.
Not trying to rip your post apart, I agree that they are both very good phones with the One being the better of the two. 32 internal was huge for me coming from 16, would have loved a 64 variant.

I agree the camera is a little sad. It takes super pics most of the time. Sharp and brilliant. But if they stayed with 8 megapixels and made those ultra, it would rock.

The screen on the one looks washed out compared to the DNA ... But the DNA doesn't have 32 gb which is huge and the audio on the one is significantly better ..
