Incredible vs incredible II - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Which is the better phone overall? Which has the biggest/best dev community? What are the pros and cons?

Incred 2 is a bigger screen, faster processor, and more RAM. Also, its a global phone.

Thanks! Yes I knew it had a bigger screen 4" I think vs 3.7. But faster processer? What are the clock speeds on the two phones? I thought the dinc was clocked at 1000.

DI2 running SkyRaider Zeus R1.3, stock kernel with Quadrant score of 1446 - benchmarked 350% faster than my Droid Eris, working Flash Player & playing Hulu nicely ....

I loved my Inc1... But the Inc2 is what the original should have been at launch. I only miss the red accents. Perfect size for a phone. Not gigantic and ugly like the Moto Razr Tablet and not too small like how my Inc1 feels now.
Love this phone just wish it was 4g
Loved the Inc1 dev community but the Inc2 is growing and has everything I need. Virtuous, Cm7, and the fifteen million Newt roms.

I came from a Droid X and I must say, I love this phone. Unlocked bootloader, sweet roms.
It does, however, seem quite a bit smaller in my pocket, which it good, and in hand, which is not as good.

Incredible 2 , if it will be used as CDMA , there are many Sense 3.5 Roms and dev community for that . But if you are Using GSM , there are only very few roms that support Global Mode and the max available is Sense 3

It would be used as CDMA. Do both phones have the same clock speed? And what is the difference in ram?

They have the same speed but the core in this phone is newer and has a faster GPU.

dinc1 has 512mb of ram, dinc2 has 768 i believe
as for faster processor, clock speed isnt everything. Just try out a 1.6ghz atom and compare it to a 1.6ghz i3. The snapdragon in the Dinc2 is a new chip, with a smaller architecture and better power management, with a newer GPU.
Not to be an ass, but honestly you're comparing an older phone to a newer one. The Dinc2 is an all around better phone simply because it has some more refined components in it.
As for the dev community, this phone has quite an active one. We have 2 different ICS ports (one on xda, the other on rootzwiki), countless sense roms, TSM poolparty, OMFGB, OMGB, CM7, MIUI, etc. We have nearly anything you could want running on this phone out, or in the pipeline.
This is a great device and if you're looking to get one, i'd recommend it.

100% agreed.
I started with the HTC Eris
Then the D INC 1
and now D INC 2, and all 3 were great phones. But the INC2 just blows the INC1 out of the water. Is the Inc1 still a nice phone? Yes. Is the INC2 much better? Yes.

Lol I feel so young in smartphone years. The DINC2 is my first one. I had jailbroken my iPod touch and messed around with themes and stuff and even downloaded a thing to make my own, but I got this and I can't go back to iOS unless I was forced to. I love this phone. It's very smooth running, and I wouldn't trade it for anything lol. Except maybe an s-off rezound or something
I know it doesn't exist yet, but I'd love to see it haha.

I'm very happy with this phone, not even sure if i'd swap it for a G-Nex...(call me insane xD)

Let's also not forget the stupid /data/data partition with the Incredible that really limited the amount of apps you could have installed.

Beefed up Dinc2?

It looks like the HTC Rezound is going to be a beefed up Dinc2.
I couldn't find the dimensions so I don't know how thick this is, but it looks like a similar design with:
-4.3" screen
-1.5Ghz dual-core processor
-1GB RAM
- 4G cellular
They are getting ridiculous with prices...
And this looks like the incredible allot...love the red mixed in it.

A lot of people commented on the article about the back. I doubt they read the whole thing, since it's a picture showing the case.
Looks pretty sweet. If I had 4g in my neighborhood, this would be the phone that would tempt me to possibly replace the Inc2, and I really like the Inc2 alot
Although, I think if someone were to put AOSP on it, it just wouldn't look right unless you had a red theme. For whatever reason, sense always looks good with red, and they added to that with the keys.

Ha! I actually would never buy it specifically because of the red soft keys. Unlikely, but maybe they pulled some slick trick like the rotating buttons on the Inc2 and made the color of the buttons changeable.
No hardware keyboard?
Too bad there is not a hardware keyboard on this.
Oh well a Bluetooth mini will have to do.
We might find an extended battery before the release.

If it were exactly the same phone with a 4" screen, with NFC and as thin as the RAZR, I'd buy 2. This looks to be nearly identical as the T-mobile Amaze 4g. Slightly too big for me.
Yeah, I was gonna say, I'm running its ROM right now to reply to this.

We are running a developer optimized, stripped down 3.5, a version of 3.5 intended for a single core processor (runnymede) with framework tweaks also though.
That said, the rezound will handle it just beautifully.

[Q] Should I trade my D3 for Dinc 2?

I have a Droid 3 and missing the MIUI and other rom experiences. My only concern with trading out for the Dinc 2 is performance (flash video) and future support.
Any former dual core users here that can compare with Dinc 2's fluidity? The narrow screen of the D3 bugs me as well, I also like the option of free tethering which is a hassle right now with D3. I don't hog data i just like to have the option to use it. Any help would be appreciated thanks!
Personally, I think the Inc2 is plenty fast. I have no lag running Sense 3.5

I have to say that the inc2 is first pick. My phone out performs most dual core. Haven't put it toe to toe yet with the razr but if it is anything like past moto phones it will hold its own.

I have never used a dual core phones, but for some reason devs stay away from them. Then again devs stay away from moto phones too. So if you want this phone for the ROMs then go ahead. But the new dual core HTC phone for Verizon looks pretty sick, and I know devs will love to make ROMs for that. If you do get the dinc 2 please compair the speed of both phones and say which one is better running the default ROMs on both. Just.wondering.

Back to OP: I'd go with the dinc2, much better community, better phone overall imo. Technically, the D3 is superior, but in my hands, I really preferred the dinc2. Much nicer on the eyes, thinner, etc.

Alright so I have had 5 Droid x2s within less than a year. I'm able to get a free Droid inc2 instead of another x2 replacement. I'm wondering if any of you inc2 had a x2 before and what you liked better and why. Im currently running cm9 on my x2 and its pretty zippy. I want my phone to be fast. Very fast. I would get the Incredible 2 just because the phone is guaranteed to get the update to ICS later on (the Droid X2 is going to stuck on gingerbread sadly).
I would get the dinc2. I currently have both and I absolutely love my dinc2. And even though it only has a single core even without overclocking you will not see a difference between the dinc and the x2...well besides a smaller screen.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA
thanks for the input guys. I have done a lot of research on the two comparing them over and over. By the looks of it the inc 2 usually comes out on top. The "dual" core x2 doesn't even use the tegra 2 processors to the full potential because the 2.3.x software doesn't take it into account. so those dual cores are just as good as a single core without properly adjusting for it. which moto (like usually) failed to do. Looks like im getting the inc 2 =D

2 years ago I got myself the Evo 4g, had it stock for the 1st year (because I didn't know about rooting) then I got the samsung galaxy tab 8.9. I had my mind set on getting the note 2 ever since I heard about it, but after watching a video on YouTube that compared the note 2 and the DNA, I'm not so sure. The video ran every benchmark that antutu has to offer and the DNA beat the note 2 in almost every test by a little. Also, the DNA has a larger resolution.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda app-developers app
Benchnarks are relative. You dont know if its been overclocked or if one has a bunch of apps or services running. You have to look at the specs and see if its better. I ran both of these benchmarks after reading this and my phone had better results several times and worse results several times.

I think you have a point. I noticed that the note 2 has a faster clock speed on it's CPU but thought that perhaps the make of the CPU alone could make a difference in performance (Intel CPUs vs AMD CPUs for example).
In regards to resolution, has anyone seen the difference between the note 2 and the HTC DNA? I don't think the video review does a good job of showing the picture quality of each phone.

I have played with both devices and while the DNA is a nice device it does feel sluggish at times especialy when hopping in between different open programs.
As for the display, its all about user preference. I prefer the Note for the vibrant colors. The DNA seemed a little crisper but it also bothered my eyes after staring at it for awhile.

I believe there is a comparison between the two phones as they are both rather large phones and leaders in performance.
I personally don't consider the s pen the note 2's defining characteristic (although I can see why some would). The s pen aside, the note 2 is a beast of a phone. I think of the s pen as an added bonus, similar to my Samsung Epic 4g's slide out keyboard.

These would be the least of the things I would use to consider a new phone. I was just running these and was suprised at the score. I've been set on this phone for a while. And if I don't get it, ill probably consider another HTC. I love the sense.

I always find myself messing with the benchmark apps of Quadrant and Antutu, it does do a good comparison. And for those who say some times it is slower and sometimes higher.. When you run a car/motorcycle on the dyno or quarter mile don't you also get higher and lower results? It may not be the most concrete comparison system but it isn't garbage.(not saying anyone in HERE called it garbage but have heard it in other places). Anyways for a 7600 score on quadrant what were you running for clock speed min max, the gpu settings etc. I noticed you were on the Venum Ice reborn ROM. it is Odexed, aren't those supposed to be faster?
Also how do the fellas on top of the Antutu boards running the Gn2 run the test at resolutions of like 720x8 and other crazy res's like that?
I had a couple real low 7k quadrant runs but they got wiped flashing ROM's and not saving it. but here's what I do have.

New Phones

I can upgrade 2/14 and there is a few phones.
I'm looking at the Note 2 and SG3 as my top two right now though.

Even though I've never used an S3, they are so wildly popular that you are bound to see good ROM support for many months to come. I feel this is what plagues the DINC2, since so many have become fed up with HTC (& Verizon) and moved on to other phones. The remaining devs do great work though!:highfive:
I've been using a Verizon Galaxy S3 (Verizon is dual core vs everyone else getting a quad core) as my work phone. Running an AOSP rom I'm very happy with it. My sister just upgraded from an iPhone 4 and LOVES her new stock Sprint GS3.
Personally I'm tired of being a flashaholic and just ordered a Lumia 822 Windows phone to replace the Incredible. I wasn't looking to shell out cash for a new phone and it's got the same processor as the VZ GS3. I figure I run Windows at home, own an Xbox, and support Windows at work so an iPhone was out.
I've got till june for my update. I think I might be one of the very last of the inc2 users by then.
I'm probably the only person that went from a Dinc 2 to an SGS3 back to a Dinc 2.
I liked the SGS3. The ROMS are pretty good although AOSP roms were lacking a bit back when I used them. I was kind of forced to sell my SGS3 as I needed to pay off some expenses so I went back to the Dinc 2.
Looking back, I don't really miss the SGS3 that much. Sure, in pretty much every way it's a better phone and LTE is nice. I did get adjusted to the 4.7in screen and the overall size of the device, but I really do like the Dinc 2 form factor a lot better.
Whatever my next phone is, I'll try to talk myself out of getting something the size of the SGS3. I really hope a new 4.3in phone, or something around that, comes out on Verizon. There's the HTC M4, but I wonder if it will ever see the light of day on Verizon. I wish Verizon would sell the flagship HTC phones and not altered models.
I'll probably use the Dinc 2 until it breaks or I can't get a hold of a good looking stable rom. I'm going to stick with flagship phones from now on though.
