Sprint ditched the Epic branding

So now that Sprint has dropped the Epic 4g Touch branding from its Galaxy S II variant, will the forum be renamed to Sprint Galaxy S II?
Idk why they would, this phone is still pretty epic

i guess since the sgs 3 blew up they wanna change the name so normal people know its a Galaxy phone
What is this I'm hearing? It will no longer be called the "Epic 4G Touch"? Oh my...
I suspect it's a way to try and get around the potentially upcoming injunction IMHO. That and they're doing the same with Boost. (Our MVNO used the E4GT name but for marketing dropped it where possible since Japanese customers know that brand VERY well.)

Is the Galaxy S II still the Epic 4G touch?

I went in to the sprint store today and saw a phone they were calling the Samsung Galaxy S II... not calling it the epic 4g touch. So... is would the ROMs be under the S2? Or are they still under the touch?
Still same thing my white one is gs2 and my gfs black one is eptouch still in my account page
Yes it is still a Galaxy s2 and the roms would be under Epic 4g touch section so if u go to epic 4g touch android development that's where the ROM for Sprint's Galaxy s2 are.. o.o
it's the galaxy S II epic 4g touch
the at&t version is just galaxy S II

Not sure if this was Samsung or Sprint making the call but seems it was to reduce confusion when Boost and Virgin also released it. Sprint was an oddball in having a different (and long!) name for their version of the S2.
If it came from Sprint it's the same model though, no matter what the "title" is. Can always verify against the sticker on the back of the phone as well!

[Q] sprint epic 4g touch

i know this is a stupid question but is it true that samsung built the epic 4g touch to be able to get 4glte if they wanted to. I have12-15 Mbs in san francisco let me know and i show you which rom i was using and which setting i was on. sprint is "shoot" in san francisco. I am asking this question because i need 4glte. and i love my epic 4g touch. does anyone know if the samsung can update the firmware so epic 4g touch can get lte? thanks

This pretty much.
The epic 4g touch was one of the last sprint phones to come out that supports WiMax.

And no...that was uninformed reps that spread that rumor. Not hardware capable.

No. If you need LTE then you need an LTE capable device. There's no software that can make missing hardware magically appear and start working.

Sprint WiMax being discontinued and Epic 4G Touch

With Sprint dropping over 60,000 customers from WiMax in November who have phones using it such as the Epic 4G touch, Is it possible to do a custom ROM that will allow the Epic 4G Touch to work on the newer Spark network/4G LTE, or do I use my Epic for a paperweight.
The Epic will continue to work on 3G but Id rather buy a new phone than go backwards with speed.
Anyone have a solution? :crying:
thanks

No. LTE/Sprint Spark requires new hardware. As you stated it will still work on 2G and 3G.
And this is not the Epic 4G Touch sub-forum. This is the Epic 4G sub-forum.
I'm leaning toward a 2015 Moto G CDMA, Moto X Pure Edition, or 2015 Nexus 5. I'll just keep my Epic 4G as a backup probably.
Some news:
Sprint is planning on providing replacement phones to long standing customers at no fee sometime in September that will work on the 4g LTE network. If they keep their word, then nothing lost and maybe a lot to gain with a better phone even if it will most likely be refurbished.
So where do you think they will come up with over 50,000 phones for the customers that had WiMax only devices?
Could be worse.....they could offer us a rotary dial phone.
At least wimax will become spark in that area where it was
?
