It'll work exactly the same way

So the Japanese Docomo version is different from the UK or US GSM one?
I always get my android phones from oversea but this time I was thinking to buy it in Japan as I am living here. I don't want to find any sim lock or retarded docomo customization. I tried the Galaxy Nexus in a docomo shop and I didn't find any differences from the one I saw from youtube. Can you confirm that?
Thanks

I've had mine for a couple of days. Seems pretty stock, even the boot screen just says 'Google', a nice refresh.
Differences I've noticed;
Baseband - SC04DOMKKD
SP-Mode shortcut - points to a webpage explaining it's coming soon
No tethering - coming in Jan, supposedly
Course I haven't used a non-JP one, so I could be missing more.
As a note
Kernel - 3.0.1-ge2433f2 [email protected]#1
Build number - ITL41D.SC04DOMKKD

Flashed?
Anyone tried to flash it with a custom rom or an AOSP build?
I'm wondering if the different baseband version will cause any issues.

I'm using ARHD1.3.1 with franco's kernel on docomo SC-04D baseband.
until now, working well smoothy

Hi godelsproof,
I'm a first time android user, so I'm still a bit confused with all the terminology.
Regarding our flat rate data plans, baseband versions have no information related to this right ? I mean, if we change our baseband (to get rid of sim lock), our flat rate plans will still work ok ?
Regarding sim lock, before buying, I talked with Docomo sales rep, and he said that our phones are not sim locked, if we go to our own country, and insert a local sim, it should work. But at least trying my own SIM here says phone is locked, and emergency calls only...
What are the advantages to change to franco's kernel, in Galaxy Nexus? At least on some Nexus S thread, people are saying the performance improves quite a bit... I guess we can get more perf also from our horses ?

Now Im using a sc-04d, and change to xxkk1 baseband sucessful. Just as same as the uk one.
sc-04d has a simlock, but you can go to docomo shop and unlock it .

I'm a little unclear on a few points, and would appreciate a little more info . I also have a Docomo SC-04D:
1) When you say that you changed the baseband, this means that you flashed the radio right?
2) Can we just use the standard fastboot method for flashing the radio to the direct-from-google radio image, or are there more steps we should do?
3) Are there any disadvantages to changing the baseband?
Thanks!

how to tell which carrier a gnex is locked to

Got phone from eBay and gives me a sim locked error but there is but no branding to identify who it is locked to. Any suggestions?
You can't go into the about phone section and check the software info/ baseband?

No, not at all. That's stock right there.
To be honest I didn't knew that gnex were even sold carrier locked. Did you try doing a OEM unlock and just reflashing some other ROM or stock ROM again to see if start working?

some nexus sold in europe are carrier locked and can be problematic to unlock even with the right unlock code. Flashing roms will not sim unlock your phone. the only way is to buy a code online or get one from the carrier the phone was sold from.

This is what I assumed from reading other forums, but since it has no branding I do not know which carrier it is originally locked by.
How did you buy a phone without knowing it was unlocked first
its gonna be hard. you need to contact the seller. based on the info above its just bone stock 4.0.2...
So the buyer tells me that he got it from a google employee and that it was tested before he sent it. Can I call Google or Samsung to get more info?
After pulling up fastboot I find some other strange things. First it tells me CARRIER INFO - none. SIGNING - production. And under the development options it shows me a Developer Device ID. Does this sound like a somehow locked gnex or is all that normal?
Well, there are several ways of doing this;
1. You go into the bootloader (either using the ADB or via PWR + Vol. up + Dwn buttons) There it says "Carrier Info" (Name of carrier)
2. You say, of fu** this. Then you just flash the firmware directly from the Samsung Website...
3. OR you get a SIM card, from every carrier in the world and try it that way...
To be honest, I'd go for the flash Here is the link for the firmware
I now have only one thing to say: If none of these options work (Which they will, though) I'll scoff a mop...

[Q] Any difference between i9250 and SC-04D

Hi, I'm going to buy an docomo version of Galaxy Nexus and I really wanna know if there's any difference between those 2 in term of flashing firmware, rooting, or custom firmwares... Can I install custom firmware that's made for I9250 on SC-04D.
Thanks
Should be the exact same. From what I've read anything you can flash on i9250 you can flash on SC-04D.
Thanks, pal, think i'm gonna buy it tomorow , just cant wait
Edit: one more question, SC-04D is Maguro or Toro?
GSM models are Maguro.
I thought the sc-04d did not support umts 900.
some SC-04D models do not have perm-unlock, and some do.

Here's the link for CDMA (VZW) Nexus and here's the link for GSM Nexus.
I have the DoCoMo and it was perm unlocked. I was able to flash the yakju factory image to it without an issue. Retained unlock.
I am not sure about the 900 band that others have mentioned, but mine has an option to choose the bands I use via the *#*#4636#*#* menu. It wont let me select the 900 band individually, but I can select "usa bands", "japan bands" "AUS bands", and a few others as well as "automatic".
One thing to look into is the radios. I read on one thread that the radios are different from the 9250 and SC-04D. However, I cant confirm if there is really an issue or if even true.
I can tell you that mine flashed and accepted the i9250 radio from the 4.0.4 google factory image, so I dont know how big of a deal it can be.

As I know, SC-04D cannot be permanently unlocked without changing IMEI. I know that on the market there are lot of SC-04D but me personally rather paid 500-1M more for European version than choosing SC-04D which is unsure about unlock status...

I think it may be hit or miss. As I mentioned in my post. My IMEI matches the IMEI on the box, it is not the generic IMEI that you get from using the unlock app.
It originally had the yakjuxe on it. The bootloader was unlocked when I received it.
I flashed it to yakju factory google image (4.0.4). In the process, obviously it performed a reset and cleared all the info. The IMEI remained the same and the unlocked sim was retained as well.
To try to verify the phone was permanent unlocked I then factory reset the phone. The sim remain unlocked.
The only thing I havent done at this point is to re-lock the bootloader. I suppose locking the bootloader could potentially re-lock the sim, but I havent tried it.

problem with samsung galaxy nexus

I bought a galaxy nexus online in italy (imported).
The firmware is Yakjuxw and was not updated. I had a card H3G italy and everything worked ok.
I then updated to yakju and was always ok. I had Android 4.2.1
Today I changed my carrier and not read any sim Wind Italy
you can not tell me another radio to flash it correctly?
or at least I can redo the procedure to bring him yakjuxw?
how do I fix it without having to bring in help?
I discovered dall'imei by samsung which is imported Romanian
sounds like your phone was temporary unlocked and after flashing yakju you lost the unlock.. now the phone only accepts sim of the carrier its locked to.. the only way to fix this is by either calling the carrier and getting a unlock code or buying the unlock code online..
PS- i can see you need help but next time post in the correct section :good:
the gnexus is not carrier locked...
other sim with other carrier goes well...only wind italy have problems
maybe i have flashed a not radio img compatibile?
Try this app, it says it's only for docomo network. But it worked fine for me, you have to be rooted for it to work tough.

Make sure you don't have a bad baseband after the ROM update.

If he's running stock ROM, the baseband would have updated along with the 4.2.1 update...that's how my Nexus updated when I went to stock a few weeks ago...the bootloader also updates to the latest...the SIM is probably defective or that particular carrier runs on a different band (unlikely)...it could also be that the APN settings need to be entered manually like I have to do with Straight Talk.

no one is helping us unlocking the L520???

hi to all.
i bought a sprint S4 mini L520 with KK 4.4.2/ NE3 modem on ebay and i try to sim unlock it (internationally).
so, I follow this thread but i dont find the earliest modem for the L520

after that i can access network mode, apn setting, but still invalid sim.

i try the region lock away after i rooted the phone but still invalid sim?
so moderators and senior members why we cant find previous modem for the s4 mini in my case L520???
on xda we have unlocked many other harder phones and not a S4 mini!!!
please help us find a solution
GOD BLESS ALL
The Sprint variant is a CDMA phone. I don't think it will work on GSM networks, if that's what you're trying to.

i try the same software but shows DONE AND REBOOTS THE PHONE BUT THE PHONE SHOWS INVALID SIM.

No OEM Unlock after 168 Hours

Hi everyone.
I recently purchased a A705W from online. It's been working great on Metro/T-Mobile for me, however, even after 168+ hours of up time, I still don't see the "OEM Unlock" option in developer options.
I've factory reset the phone (beforehand, and let THAT add up to 168+ hours), manipulated the time and date, etc. Nothing seems to be working.
Any suggestions on how I can get the OEM Unlock option to appear?
Thanks!

I have a SM-A705FN (UK model). I'm not sure about your model in terms of it having the OEM unlock option in the developer options, I've seen some threads here that some of the North American models don't allow it.
I had the same issue, but found that I had to have a sim card installed and connected to Wi-Fi (and plugged into the charger of PC), but I don't think the cable being plugged in was the issue, definitely the SIM, and Wi-Fi, at least for me.
Give me a sec and I'll try on mine and get back to you.

Sorry my friend, I tried:
- Disabling OEM Unlocking in Developer Options
- Disabled USB debugging.
- Disabled Developer Options.
- Disabled Wi-Fi
- Powered off the phone, removed sim tray.
- Powered back on, enabled developer options again, and OEM Unlocking is there.
I have had the same problem as you, but that was a while back and I've flashed so many different versions since.
Why are you waiting for the OEM unlock to appear? It's either there or not, no time constraints as far as I know. Perhaps someone else knows.
As I said, try factory reset/wipe cache, ensure a sim is in, connect to wi-fi and perhaps try again.
Good luck. :good:
Ok, replicated and got it to work
I replicated the issue you are experiencing, this is the procedure I followed - hope it works for you:
- Disabled USB debugging, OEM unlocking and then disabled Developer Options.
- Disabled Wi-Fi.
- Flashed the latest version of stock firmware.
- Powered down the phone and removed the SIM tray.
- Disconnected the charger/PC cable.
- Rebooted to stock android recovery, factory reset/wipe cache.
- Started phone again, skipped most steps, including Wi-Fi setup (still no sim card installed).
- Enabled developer options, confirmed, NO OEM Unlocking available.
- Connected to Wi-Fi.
- Went to Developer options, OEM Unlocking now available. :good::good:.
So, at least for my SM-A705FN, you don't need a sim card, just internet connectivity (and probably a fresh flash of stock firmware, factory reset and cache wipe from android recovery).

You're right, A705 is only Snapdragon (confusion with S10) however, north American versions of this phone like A705W are not bootloader unlockable due to carrier restrictions.
Here's another post explaining the issue:

I've got the phone and it's not possible at the time of this post. Sorry.

Damn that sucks....thanks for the answer, though. Still appreciated.
Would you happen to know if the A705MN is bootloader-unlockable?

I'm not sure about bootloader, but "OEM unlock" option is there in A705MN. What is up with prices on Canadian A705? I'd say get A705MN for much cheaper!

I got my A705W for $229, so it was a pretty good deal. I bought an A705MN on Amazon and it arrived today. Rooted, TWRP'd and everything in between with no problems I've filed for a return for the 705W.

The process is similar to converting a hatchback to a sedan.
1. Order a dual SIM A70
2. Sell the A705w single SIM on Swappa, eBay or craigslist.
Why do you think it is possible?
flashing a combination firmware should fix the OEM unlock without problem, its a developer firmware used for tests, here it is https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1899786940962591760
flash in odin!
BK, I'm on a A705W with the December ASK2 ROM.
Is there any danger in flashing this combination ROM? I need to root but don't have OEM unlock option.

Thanks BK!
I'm finding these via Sammobile, but they aren't Dev: https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-a70/firmware/SM-A705W/TLS/
Sorry to be dense, but I'm trying to measure twice/cut once Can you point me to an appropriate firmware to install via Odin in order to unlock? I'm on Telegram if you prefer.
