I love the Dash and I like WM6 but the OS on the phone is a buggy as hell.
I have had many WM phones and apart from the MTeoR this is the buggiest yet.
1) No roaming icon.
2) Memory leaks all over the place - biggest problem.
3) Looping alarm.
4) Auto time zone update does not work correctly.
5) Buggy profiles (patch available).
6) 1 minute after first low battery warning the phone turns off.
7) Favourites don't sync correctly even using latest ActiveSync
The roaming icon is not a WM6 problem, it's the specific customization of the ROM.
Memory leaks aren't a problem if you get rid of the voice dial and MyFaves startup stuff. Also load up a good task manager and kill IE when you're not using it, as it hogs memory and won't ever let it go until you kill it.
Not sure about the low battery thing, but the favorites work fine for me... I'm using Vista though.
All issues I have never had with a WM device before.
You've never had IE take up all of your RAM? It's always done that. IE is a hog.
If you bother to notice, all but the looping alarm (which i suspect is a problem with a 3rd party app not developed by microsoft) are problems caused not by microsoft, but by the people who put together this specific build of wm6. Microsoft has no control over idiots at HTC who don't cook a ROM properly, and leave things out of the default profiles, etc.
I'm 100% sure that the Favorites thing is a problem on your end, or there would be a LOT more people yelling about it than just you.
I have upgraded my HTC Desire to Android 2.2. Unfortunately I have realized that after that update, an embedded compass started acting up. I mean it's not showing the North anymore. It seems to me that it's not an issue with some particular application as I have tried with several ones available on the Market and it needs to be some bug with new OS. Anyway here is what I have figured out and what I have already done in order to get this sorted out. At this point of time, it even looks like I have just some kinda workaround:
Once I pick out 'Calibrate' menu item in Compass v1.1 (developed by Snaptic, Inc.) and then according to the instruction, start off waving my phone in a figure 8 pattern to reset the magnetometer on my device, it's not gonna fix the issue but when I start rolling my phone in a hand (side to side then top to bottom) and then it seems to me that the issue is sorted out as finally compass points out the North, but after I close the application and open it again (or open any other compass based app) the magnetometer is broken again So all what I can do is to reset the magnetometer as per above-mentioned instruction again. It just looks like the device is not able to save some compass calibration setting anymore.
Anyway I was just wondering if some of you already faced this same issue and know how to fix it permanently. I would appreciate it, if you could share any thoughts with me. Thanks in advance.
Hey folks, I don't believe that nobody experiences that issue too. Maybe you just haven't noticed that yet? Anyway could you please just check if your compass works as intended after the upgrade to Android 2.2? Personally, I really believe it's a bug with Froyo.
I think mine is also acting weird.
Wenn starting Google Maps and using streetview in compass mode it only looks up and down and I cannot look from left to right.
When i roll the phone a few times in my hand it starts working.
But after closing Google Maps and starting it again I have to do the rolling again
I was wondering that compass problem too. With ver.2.1 everything worked like a dream as I use compass mostly geocaching. After updating in every app I've tried the compass stucks pointing to approx. to the lower left corner of the screen. Sometimes calibration helps but it stuck again after a while even the app is running all the time.
"Compass" app kinda could wake up after waiting a while but usually it doesn't. In any other software won't work at all as I've tried, 5secs after calibration but nothing more.

Anyway thanks for your answers guys! I really appreciate it! So it looks like at least 3 folks here are experiencing some issues with digital compass after the upgrade to the Froyo on HTC Desire
Wonder if there is anyone here who could disagree with us and say that the upgrade didn't cause any compass degradation on his/her device at all...
I can't say if it worked properly with 2.1, didn't use the compass a lot before.
With 2.1 I needed to calibrate it a few times, but probably not as much as I need to do now. I'm using the "compass" app and it directly tells me it detected an abnormal magnetic field. After calibrating it again, it points north. Haven't checked the correct north with a real compass, so it may have a slight difference.
I put my phone down at the table at 0 degrees N. I turn off my screen, and turn it back on. It is now pointing 90 degrees E. But the interesting thing is.. the east is actually located west, compared with the previous north :?
When I rotate my phone it displays only E or SE, always between 90 degrees E and 130 degrees SE. I can't even find north.
I can rotate my phone 180 degrees (Pointing south), it displays 130 degrees. When I calibrate the phone and I rotate my phone 180 degrees (Still south) it displays 160 degrees S. Which is kinda strange. And when I try to find the 180 degrees point, and rotate my phone again, it displays 35 degrees NE.
After another calibration the values seems to be okay...
My conclusion? Don't trust the compass at all unless you have a real compass to compare.
That person with the exact opposite experience is me
I complained on 2.1 here with many others about the compass going haywire every time you took it off-screen and its lack of stability and consistency. HTC 2.2 totally fixed this issue for me. I've calibrated it once about a week back and it's still accurate every time I'm opening it and in Google Earth.
Beware, the compass draws a lot of power in use so it'll drain the battery very fast. About as fast as playing a 8Mbps 720p VC-1 vid.

My problem is kinda dame that with Nakebod.
As I said compass stucks pointing to the lower left corner, it infact tells I'm holding the phone towards 120-130 decrees east, where ever I turn the phone to. Calibration helps for a while as after that the compass points approxamtely to north which is enough direction to me, but after a while or at least after swithing apps or taking compass background and back on, it stucks again to the 130 decrees.
Of course I am not using this kind of device as "for real" but I'd like to have it at least somewhat accurate. As geocacher I use compass as a tool with my hobby and I was quite happy with Desire because of the quite accurate GPS but after the update the compass is practically useless.
Just a quick update, I made a quick phone call to HTC support this morning and raised that issue. The support analyst recommended the factory data reset to see if it helps. I guess it's just a standard answer so at this point of time I'm not gonna proceed with that and erase all data on my phone. (Btw, I wonder if it's possible to backup all current data from my unrooted, unbranded Desire?)
Furthermore he promised to get back to me in next few days with some official resolution of that issue so I will keep you updated.
Try calibrating your magnetometer by waving your phone in 8-shaped moves.
I emailed HTC customer care also about the issue and the answer was to factory reset the phone. Of course that was the first thing I had already done at the minute I noticed the problem in first place so I wasn't quite fond of the idea. In fact I have reseted phone three times after the update and allways the result was the same; compass stucks.
Well, I thought that maybe I have some weird app that messes up the compass so I tried one more time...
At first after the reset I downloaded only EStrong file manager, compass and c:eo. Compass worked most of the time! I kept resuming backups and compass did stuck occasionally but not very often (+ abnormal magnetic field). I am not sure what I did leave out of the phone but now the comapss works quite fine. It is a lot more sensitive for magnetic fields than in 2.1 but usually calibration works to it.
So, the conclusion is, that even for some reason first times the reset didn't work, it did help after all. Just backup your data and give it a try. Doesn't cost more than some time. The compass DOES stuck still but is most of the time usable.
At least I left out MoreLocale2, Metal detector and some games. And I DIDN'T calibrate G-sensors after reset.
So, there is still some issues with update and compass but it COULD also be somewhat application related...
G-Sensor calibration might be the answer! Following the first factory reset yesterday which cleared the compass problem initially I reinstalled all apps and calibrated G-sensor to find the problem came back. Then I factory-reset once more last night and reinstalled all apps but didn't do the re-calibration, left the phone on for the night - no problem in the morning. Feel tempted to re-calibrate to proof the point now.
Please inform here how did it do if you re-calibrate. I have an ongoing geocaching challenge, so I won't try that until I'm sure that I don't need the compass for couple of days. After that I'm going to test if calibration is the problem as soon as possible.
I have the same problem. Have tried everything but hard reset. Still, compass worked a lot better on 2.1 :-(

My compass works fine on HTC Desire on Android 2.2.
Try 3d compass, and use its calibration option. Always works for me.

Wonder how does HTC support team's SLA look like in terms of resolving client's tickets as my one hasn't been resolved yet... Anyway it seems to me that HTC is not going to confirm that OTA update to Froyo could caused that compass issue.
That's why I decided on factory data reset and it looks like that helped with getting this issue sorted out. After the hard reset, my first step was an initial compass calibration and that's really all what I did. The digital compass is not maybe so precise and accurate as it used to be on Android 2.1 but finally roughly (I would say with 15° margin) points out the north so there is a progress
Just to add my 2c, I can confirm that the compass has become useless since I upgraded to 2.2 on my device. Doing the figure 8 in Compass app has short lived benefits.

Neither does my compass react in any application (tried Compass, Places directory, Google Navigation) after update to Froyo.
Calibrating with the 8 movement or G-sensor calibration does not help at all.
However, it always starts working normally when I tilt the phone to the side (so that I look on the slim side of the phone) and then start a short forward and backward rotation with the rotational axis going thru the display.
I need to repeat this every time I unlock the phone and the compass keeps on working until i lock the phone again or until I switch the application.
Weired.
I have the same problem, and it is a bit annoying. The compass works correctly if I wave the phone like in the video posted, but I have to do this every time I start an app that uses the magnetometer. My phone was not like this on 2.1.
Finally the SOD issue is fixed.
My 4 trials:
1. with no facebook auto update active, TP2 gets no SOD
2. with facebook auto update active, TP2 gets loads of SOD every day
3. download people application update from HTC and trial with no facebook update - no SOD's at all
4. switch on facebook update - since people application update installed - no SOD's at all!!!! and this has been running for quite a few weeks
NOT a single SOD at all. Fixed. Looks like SOD was related to memory issue consumption with facebook. Try it out.
Apart from a few speaker issues with Sense 2.5, my TP2 is pretty good for a slow phone compared to todays standard!
Too bad I don't use the facebook update.
I'm using the standard WM6.5 WWE Rom from HTC.
That has no update feature for facebook, but does have the SOD problems... a lot
Strange, only ever had sods with sense 2.5. And now they are completely gone. Memory usage is normal with the occasional crashes that comes with the underpowered tp2 but no black screen of deaths
I've never used facebooke, I disabled it in settings and still get SODs. In fact, much less after systemboard replacement...
Tried it all and still having the issue.
The problem for my device seems to be backlight related. I have noticed that I can not adjust the backlight settings at all...It always seems to be at 100 % no matter what I do. Tried Lumos and other backlight adjustment apps to no available solution. Tried even downgrading from wm6.5 go 6.1 stock rom and nadda. I wish there was a sound fix for everyone posted somewhere!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. When I boot into android...the sleep button will turn the screen on and off fine so the hardware button is working but I also notice in Android that the backlight is still lit even with the screen off. Backlight sensor works as when I answer a call it turns off but this dam SOD will never allow it to come back on unless a reset is done.
Telus CDMA TP2 with Sharkie Rom wm6.5 running.... Android Froyo 2.2 build as my work around but battery drains like crazy because the backlight never turns off! PLS HELP!
Thank you in advance, Kind Regards,

Hi.
Which ROM are u using?
I have the same problem and i'm 100% sure too that it's the facebook update. When is turned off don't get any SOD. But if i try to update manually and the phone goes to standby it won't wake up.
Today i installed the people application update but no luck. Its getting SOD's every time i try to update. Dammmm
It's this www[.]htc[.]com/pt/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=250&cat=0&dl_id=1061 the update that you say, wright?
I'm using the ROM 2.07.410.1 (80303) PTG.
Can we see anywuere in the phone that the update is installed?
Thanks
Nuno Viegas
Get SOD's without Facebook installed!
I am using ROM 2.07.401.1 with Manila version 2.5.20121225.0 (the standard WinMo 6.5 WWE ROM and get a lot of SOD's (about 3 per week) . And I don't even have this Facebook update installed, since I don't have a Facebook account.
If anyone has a solution I would be extremely glad!
HTC is no help....
Am I the only person who thinks that if wp7 just worked (as is), you would be 100% satisfied?
My live tiles have never worked properly and using more than 4 drains battery. The web browser is very fast when it works but more than a few times it has locked up and randomly rebooted the phone. The GPS never gives me the correct location, showing me as being more than a mile away from where I really am. When I see something I really want to take a picture of I try to go straight to the camera app by holding the camera button, nothing happens and I have to let go and hold it again.
I am not saying that I don't love wp7, because to me it is better than both iPhone or Android. I just wish it would work the way i expect it to.
The camera button wont work if the proximity sensor is being covered. and i'm satisfied! apart from bluetooth which to me is completely useless as it seems to never work but i've found the gps on my omnia 7 to be awesome, never yet had a lock up or automatic reboot! Mango is going to fix many problems anyway so it'll work out for you
Thanks, I hope so because it is a great os just been very buggy for me.
Which device do you have, OP?
A lot of those issues you're describing sound like a problem with the internal memory or a memory card..
I've never had my phone randomly reboot
I've had quite a few random reboots but none of the other problems mentioned in the OP.
You are just *****ing !!!!!!!!!

Yes. Which device do you have. I've had none of the above issues and my phone just works AND it's a Dell Venue Pro.
There are live tiles that can become stuck at times like Alphajax and Weatherbug. They eventually release. But, Mango seems to have fixed those issues.
I have the 1.3 Samsung focus using 7390 nodo. This is my third focus and they all had the same problems.

The only - well known for others too - issue I had on NoDo is the tiles not updating, Marketplace not showing updates - all this push stuff.
However browser and GPS are fine, and the phone rebooted itself maybe once - rock solid performance actually (LG Optimus 7).

Do you have a memory card in the phone? if so I am sure you know not all memory cards work...
Well, I have the Samsung Focus 1.3 running 7390 and I've never had those issues.
BTW, the Samsung Focus is notorious for battery drain because of the AMOLED screen.
Anyhow, I've had a few times were the browser shut on me. I just have to launch IE again; I've experienced no reboot issue.
The GPS also gives me accurate location.
As for the camera app, you have to NOT block the proximity sensor when launching from the camera key.
Anyhow, seeing that you constantly have issues with the Samsung Focus model, I suggest you trade in for the HTC Surround or the LG Quantum and see if you have issues there.
I am holding out for a mango device, I am thinking of buying the nokia sea ray or whatever they release. Glad to know that it's not a widespread problem guys, thanks.
About the GPS, you must allow the GPS device to re-locate your location, depend how strong your network are.
This forum have several articles like this when people can't believe themselves when the device show they are LA instead of San Francisco.
I know my HD7 never goes away that far, but it does show the wrong location of mine for a least a mile away several times in a few minutes/
None of those problems on my HD7 ... I'm trying to hold out for Mango. Sounds like they are hardware related though. I'm sticking with what I've got. No sense in buying a new device that is going to have its own bugs.
My problems with the my device are entirely software related ... Cept for the lack of a keyboard and possibly the pink camera hue.

Aint going to comment or fuel any more whinning or *****ing in this post (yours and from others replying here), but I will comment on the issues you've had compared to mine.
Live tiles are working just fine atm... I've had some issues in the past, but they all seem to have vanished. Weather, Facebook, Foursquare, Twitter and a few others and they all work fine now. As for them draining my battery, I do give the Trophy a good run for its money during the day and it still gets home late at nite with enough battery.
Never had any issues with the browser... fast, has NEVER crashed or locked the phone. Don't know what else to tell ya.
GPS also works great... very fast in Foursquare, and I've compared it to at least 2 Android devices and it just flat out won. Map wise, finds my location just fine, doesnt take the 5 minutes to find my location that I've seen some devices take.
Ain't it time you got something non-Samsung ?
Samsung on android sure does suck buggy as hell and GPS never worked on the moment intercept and it buggy on epic

about the live tiles and push... this will be fixed in Mango. Live tiles and push before Mango are hit or miss, badly implemented and poorly tested. If your carrier does not support it propperly it will not work on NoDo... Mango fixed almost every issue regarding push (as far as I noticed, am testing it for a few weeks now).
It sucks they did not implemented it properly at first, since a lot of the people have not been able to use apps with live tiles AT ALL. Mango fortunately corrects this, better late then never.
okay, a rather strange issue. Not too annoying but make my Desire HD feel "not perfect"
I recently flashed ARHD 5.2.5 with matching radio, super wipe and stuff, everything went smooooooth and working flawlessly. And when i began customizing the phone to my taste, i stumbled into this little problem
I try to get more notification sound from HTC hub, but it keep saying that it couldn't connect to HTC sense server, but if i open ringtone page, (in fact anything beside notification sound), it worked fine. So, it seems like my phone cannot access notification sound in HTC hub.
tried wipe cache, but no luck, tried delete htc sense account still no luck. Anybody can help me ?
bumpy bump
I've got the same thing going on and I didn't do a full wipe, just up from 5.2.4. My guess would be it's an HTC related issue.
Yes mate, HTC hub has been behaving strange since the day it launched. the notification sound you accessed was already downloaded before its got disconnected.
