Question on ics build - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Will this build be vanilla android. I always liked kushdecks builds when i had my eco because they had no bells and whistles just naked android. Will the build i the dev section be the same?
Sent from my Sprint Motorola Startac super amoled plus 4g

Most likely
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium

Yes just butt naked Android but other dev are working on porting touchwiz ux or something similar.

I don't want touchwiz or anything just bare naked android. Only the apps and system needed to run the phone only.

EVO for a nexus s ?

So yea thinking about getting a nexus s and droping my evo. Pros Nd cons plz?
Sent from my UNROOTED -_- EVO using XDA App
Just depends if you like Sense builds or NonSense builds. Nexus is probably a little faster becasue you dont have to run such a big OS but its really all personal preference. I myself like Sense builds, now that the EVO has GB, battery life is tremendously better and the fact that you can either run Sense/NonSense builds on the Evo why Get a Nexus S if you can have the same rom, live wallpaper and GB keyboard that looks identical. HDMI, 8mp camera, more support and a bigger screen- what's not to love?!
But again, personal preference! Good luck
Well I like asop Roms but my EVO is unrooted with hboot 2.16, sure would love to have cm7 on my EVO but I think they'll never root the new hboot
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I was thinking the same thing. I have an upgrade available on another line on my account and with the sprint buy back for $150 that would mean the nexus would be free. I dont know if i should be patient and wait for 2.3 to be rooted or just get a nexus. My rooted evo was having problems so they sent me a new one..... with 2.3

[Q]Should this gs2 be smooth like my old Vibrant?

I realize the cpu is not as fast as samsungs...but shouldnt the dual core run atleast as smooth as single core vibrant? My gs2 arrived today buy seems abit choppy compared to my Vibrant.

Nope but more smoother than your vibrant.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
i think the OP is up in smokes
this phone is faster that any of the old Hummingbird based phones (i9000, vibrant, Nexus S, captivate, etc)
just remove all the Tmo crapware then it'll be butter smooth
It can be a bit choppy or of the box but I found it good
Flash juggernaut and bullet kernel if you would like to get the most out of your phone right note. It Is a very smooth experience
Bullet really solved most of the.choppiness for me atleast
You will not be disappointed
That is my opinion but many will call it fact
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
It does get way smoother when debloated, but some of the choppiness won't quite go away. I think there's something going on in the drivers or something.

The dual core processor in our GS2 is definitely faster and more efficient than the Vibrant's Hummingbird processor. I'm surprised that you said the Vibrant feels faster and smoother than our phone. Is the Vibrant rooted? A stock Vibrant can never feel no where near as fast and smooth as this phone especially with the stock RFS file system Samsung used to use back then on the first set of Galaxy S devices.
The issue with our device is the lack of proper optimization with the software for our processor so you'll notice occasional lag bit nothing as bad as RFS.

OuncE718 that's an excellent point
compare apple to apple, and not apple to pears
the stock Galaxy S family is slow as molasses, but once rooted and with a good polished custom ROM it's as fast as a SGS2
the SGS2-T989 stock is way faster than anything i've ever seen before coming out of the box from the manufacturer
i was not happy with the out of the box experience of i9000, vibrant, captiave, Nexus S
It has its moments when stock. But its much faster than both my vibrant and g2x IMHO.

The launcher you use makes a difference too. I'm using QQ launcher. Got tired of touchwiz dropped it like a bad habit.
With QQ, I never have any slowdown...
I'm rooted on the stock ROM by the way but had the phone like this unrooted also with no problems
i'm using Go Launcher EX, with all the effects and animations ON, same with the stock Android, enabled all the Animations and special effects, on top of that install Spare Parts to enable the hidden special effects
all running butter smooth
i did read few people saying they disabled animation to not have those micro lags, but never seen or noticed one yet

But if we are talking Motoblur, Sense and TouchWizz....yah Ill take the wizz.
Personally, I think the "official" ICS (LPQ) for the SGS2 seems more like an alpha build than a final product. CM9 nightly version for the i9100 feels more stable than Samsung's LPQ release.
I think I'd just stick with Gingerbread, rather than upgrade to Samsung's ICS builds.
obviously ICS is better the look the feel the speed

Yes... Another ICS thread!
Much like most of us, I've gotten fed up with the ICS thread phenomenon..
However, I wanted to post this thread for the veterans and Devs.
Of course those of us in the know have been watching the activity escalate in the online feeds, and I have to say it's exciting to see the ramping up of releases and leaks..
We are at the threshold of real ICS goodness. I for one have been watching Kevin's Nova Launcher, since I am not a big fan of TouchWiz. Don't get me wrong, Samsung is impressive at coding.. it's functional and beautiful but too too slow and not enough customization for us hardcore themers.. With a few custom apps I see a gorgeous, lightning fast, better than Vanilla ICS experience coming.
Thoughts?

My thoughts: I don't get the big deal over ICS Now, people running WP7 on the other hand...I can see why they get jacked about OS updates - WP7 sucks exponentially less with each one
I can understand people not liking TouchWiz because of the lack of customization and other reasons but not for being too slow. When I first got my S2 I thought it was blazing fast. OP you really think TouchWiz is too slow?

I need to get an answer, which I've been combing through the forums and the internet. I've heard through a very reputable source that Samsung coded Touchwiz so deep it utilizes the on chip GPU verses all the other launchers uses up precious phone resources. Touchwiz was "made" for the hardware of this phone.
Can someone please verify this.

death to TW!!! HAHA
Tw isn't even that bad lol, our phones are fast enough that it doesn't matter
i think its more the UI that most people don't like. ICS is so much prettier and smoother. for me, give me AOSP and I'll decide how I want my phone to look.
But the biggest reason I don't like TW or Sense or any of those custom UI's is cuz it just delays OS updates that much more cuz of that crap. When the AOSP version does everything the Custom ones do....what do I need the custom one for?

I can't believe I'm saying this...

...But I am actually loving Touchwiz... I usually hate overlays but some of the features on TWIZ makes it hard to go back to AOSP based ROMs, as much as I love them (and I reallllllly love AOSP) I keep finding myself wanting to TWIZ it up. Anyone else have a new found love?

Have to agree tw on this phone rocks.
Apple just give up the IPHONE sucks deal with it.
i went to aokp and cm10 loved it but keep going back to tw......the features usually put in phones are usually corney as h*** but the ones samsung implemented in this phone is amazing and when im on cm10 and aokp i seem to missing those little extra bonus's touchwiz has.
Loving the Wiz since Epic Touch

i know what you mean. I like smart stay stay and the move up to your ear to call feature. Some nice options in the settings too, but cm10 has more.
TW is nice without being too much. I'm sold.
Not sure if it's just because it's something new and different but I'm really diggin' TW after two HTC devices with Sense.

It's one of the reasons I stayed with Sammy instead of going to the OneX. The TW additions really improve android. I only wish they would make the TW launcher more flexible. I gave up on custom ROMs on my Epic 4G and so far I haven't found anything I like better than stock on my SGS3 either.
Yes the new TW on the S3 is the best. I love all the added new features.
Smart Stay and most motion features still work on other launchers btw.

Ditto. I ran sense 1.0-3.0 on my Evo OG and TW on the SGS3 is much much better. I also think TW looks "cleaner" than Sense. I'm just really satisfied with my SGS3. It's going to be a long time before I replace it.

I began liking TW towards the later stages of Gingerbread on my OG Epic. AOSP is great, no question, but Sammy really has done a good job of the 'less is more' attitude with skins. There seems to be enough benefits to keep it around and enough to differentiate themselves, but it's not bogging your whole phone down like Sense can either.
It's like the took a page from Norton and did it the other way! Norton used to be great for anti-virus stuff, but now, that crap steals every single resource your computer has, and then some...
I also agree. Coming from a long line of HTC devices and a Motorola thrown in there, I think TW has a much lighter footprint than Sense and Motoblur.
I'm coming from the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon and I ran Jelly Bean on it since the day after Google announced it, and loved it.
Since moving to Sprint and the Galaxy S III and have not even thought about flashing a Jelly Bean ROM, okay, so I thought about it but can't bring myself to flash one and lose all the cool motion features.
But I am running Apex Launcher...
Add me to the list. I have been a fan since the original Epic and it just keeps getting better to me. I was checking out the Galaxy Nexus at Sprint one day a while back and I had to put it down. I was so used to Touchwiz I couldn't handle it. Felt like a let down.
Surprisingly i feel the same way.
Hated touchwiz on the Epic and Epic 4g Touch
but on the s3, it's not as instrusive and actually adds alot of functionality.
And that's cause I come from a Gnex running Jelly Belly... It's impressive.
I never though id say this, but I'm loving touchwiz.

Your favourite UI?

hi all
just wondering , what's your favourite android skin beside stock ?
TW
sense
Motorola UI
xperia ui
LG ui
etc ?
for me i love xperia the most since it feels fluid and is very elegant , sense is a close second but it i prefer elegance over eye candy
IMO TW is the ugliest , huge icon , too much colour and yuck it just don't appeal to me ...
so whats your favourite ui?
Stock 100%
I am switching from Gnex -> SGS3 this weekend. The hardware is a clear upgrade but I will greatly miss the software on the Gnex. Bug free and always the latest. Cant ask for more.
Aside from stock, I've used Blur, Sense, and Touchwiz. Touchwiz is hideous, I really like the look and functionality of sense. IMO, I used to love the look of sense back in its early days, of course it was extremely bloated back then though.
Just from appearance, since I've never fully used any of the skins except for Sense for a bit, I guess I would lean to Motorola's UI? Just because from what I've seen it looks closest to stock (remember I've only seen it, never really used). The widgets in Sense are nice, that's the only thing nice about Sense for me though..
If you're talking OEM skins/ui then the Sony Ui is the only one that looks good enough to keep it

Out of OEM skins I would say sense looks the best and is the most functional, I also prefer stock over anything else.

Completely agree. I used to like Sense UI but it looks a bit childish now.

If I had to choose a skin, it would be Sense. Its the most polished one in my opinion. However, the skins arent really moving forward quick enough with the Android base and thus feel very outdated extremely quickly. My overall favourite UI would be the stock UI. Its the most clean, polished and refined UI.
If I must compromise the stock UI....
Definitely Sense 4.0+
They really improved in it on the One series. In fact, I'd like to see a HTC Nexus phone again.

Sony's is the worst by far...
timescape is useless and pinch out to widgets is dumb.
newer sense or touchwiz at least adds meaningful functionality into the mix
i can´t answer you because i am super-satisfied with the android stock skin.
i don´t want to try another one although i have the minco custom rom which is very smooth.
Kind of funny but I can't stand the Sense UI. I think it looks childish and takes away the best of Android. I also very much dislike Touchwiz as well as it also looks rather childish. The only UI I could use (But still be somewhat annoyed with) is the latest version of Motoblur as it does keep most of the stock Android look but adds some nice touches.
I prefer sense over all, but have stock for updates. I love sense's widgets and look.

Good:
- Sense is the best out of all.
- Touchwizz Nature UX is great It just works, has eye-candy but not too much. Theme could've been better though (when looking at settings menu)
- Motoblur is awesome but it does not give that much extra. I think Motoblur should be the way stock android looks
- Stock Android. Just the way Android looks and runs the way Google intended it to run.
Bad:
- I hate sony's UI. Not well optimized, looks dull and sluggish on capable hardware (Xperia Ray 1Ghz, Adreno 205, 854x480 on 3.3") But I think it's more Sony to blame
for not optimizing the darn phone (it's on stock 4.0.4)
- LG UI. It looks like it's more meant for low-end smartphones. Not something a high-end smartphone should have. Makes the device feel cheap just by looking at the UI.
- MIUI. Looks are fine. But oh-my! What is it resource intensive! Not recommended to run on an Galaxy Nexus. Slows everything considerably down.
I think that if I had to leave stock, it'd be the LG UI. Its the least irritating.
