I have been running Xenon HD rom for some time now, but just recently, every time I try to update to the newest version when I reboot the system, it get stuck on the boot image. I end up pulling the battery and then a bunch of my apps are missing. I have never had this issue before. If I do a clean install, it loads just fine but I obviously have to reload everything. I would really like to not have to do a clean install every time when I am just updating the same rom. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
When you update a rom your boot screen will stay for a lounger amount of time because of the changes it made so wait a bit longer (5min) or try another recovery in my opinion TWRP is the best or maybe you could make a backup of your data before flashing it and the restore the data and there you go or you could also try using another rom if this problem stays and go back in 2 weeks to xenon hd and see if you have still the issue.

Yeah, I left my phone for 30min and it was still on the boot screen. Pardon my ignorance, but I am not familiar with TWRP. Right now I use ROM Manager. Is TWRP in place of ROM Manager? How do I get TWRP and load it?
Thanks for your help.
how old is the version you are running vs the age of the new one?
are they different android version?

Just their most recent release. I believe the previous version was 11.30.12 and I was updating to 12.8.12, so same version of Android.
you might have to wipe depending on what was changed between those 2 dates.
if you're having bootloop problems, you have to wipe.

TWRP is a recovery it is the best in my opinio because you don't have as many problems like you have with cwm you just flash TWRP after doing some research and then you flash and then you update your rom with you recovery
Hello,
I just installed the CM10.2 ROM on my SGH-T989 T-Mobile Galaxy S2 after having installed the Slim Bean (I think it's called), Jedi MindTrick, and AOKP so I already have the idea on how to boot a new rom already kinda experienced but I was gonna flash Gapps after installing CM10.2 and when I was gonna go into recovery it just didn't wanna boot up! I have very, very, important stuff including pictures, videos, and school projects so i would be very grateful to anyone that would please help me! At the moment, it's looping on the Samsung logo...
Just in case this helps I'm putting it in (but u already know this stuff anyways)
* CM10.2 made it so I have my own custom start up screen
* It also implemented its own charging battery icon when it's turned off
I really don't know if any of these features have anything to do with it but if someone could hand me like an updated/custom odin for that specific rom it would be great!
I have tried following the instructions given by techfanatic9 at YouTube indicating to go to download mode via USB, launch odin, and then use a .tar file called recovery-cwm-hercule but when it's done it just passes the Samsung logo and stays black.
If you need any more info I would gladly give out any!
BTW, I did wipe data/cache before installing the ROM those are the basics anyways

Hmmmm it doesn't sound hard bricked because it wouldn't start up at all if it nor would it go into download mode, you may have to take a hit on your storage and erase your SD.. can you get into your open recovery? Also as a disclaimer 10.2 is is very early alpha as team chopsticks is still working out their kinks and have said the 10.2 early roms have a likely hood of bricking the phone and messing with partitions.. very important to read thru the thread on very early rom threads.. report back and let me know

Well, I can boot up the CWM-based Recovery. When I reboot the phone from recovery it gets stuck on the Cyanogenmod loading screen which comes like 3 minutes after the Samsung one I mentiong aboved.
EDIT: Can I flash another rom? Will that fix it? I was thinking on trying Darkside but I'm scared on trying anything...
EDIT#2: I also have Jedi MindTrick backed up as well as AOKP if that helps

Its cwm recovery I'm 99% sure.. its known for not liking our device try twrp 2.6.. I haven't used cwm in forever but basically wipe everything but your SD cards.. flash over a 4.1.2 based rom.. try rushes shadow rom and boot.. also im not sure if cwm had the capabilities but in recovery hook your computer up to a pc mount your sd and copy files from your phone to your pc.. don't be scared to flash another rom especially sense its probably the reason for you not booting up<<<<--- this reason is why I have so many roms downloaded on my extra SD.. if I get stuck on a rom I wipe everything but my SD like 4 times flash the rom and kernel twice to make sure it sticks ex(flash rom re flash rom, wipe delvic and cache, flash kernel reflash kernel) usually works eveytime

Have you tried to remove the battery at all ? This has helped me in a similar situation. Remove the battery and try getting into CWM again and if that does not work, remove the battery and try getting into download mode. Good Luck.

Hello!
I recently got a Note 2 (GT-N7105)
And for some silly reason wich even disappoints myself i wanted to overclock , well that didn't make sense i know but however i did it! and directly after i installed the required file (I don't remember wich one but it was for 1.8Ghz) after the installing my phone kept showing the boot logo , i tried to use my backup but even after restoring it didnt boot! I cleaned everything wich also cleaned my backup...
I been on it for about 7 hours now trying different roms , kernels , and every file i could find but nothing helps.
I now installed Cyanogenmod using CMW but even that bootloops.
The last thing i could notice is CMW showing me a E: failed to Mount /efs (Invalid argument) Wich makes me worry even more...
I honestly hope there are some good peaple who could help me with this... Finally got a great phone and by stupid mistakes i made it won't work anymore..
I don't care what rom gets on it , Even if its a hello kitty rom u won't hear me complain , If the phone works again i'll be happy!
Not sure if this helps but its a GT-N7105 , i know it had the newest android there was (4. something, i think it was 4.3)
Odin does see the device , My CMW (6.0.4.1) works and Download Mode works.
I hope anybody can help me!
In case you want to help me live wich would be awesome my skype is : chrishendriks92
If it gets fixed i will Offcourse place the solution here.
(The note is not a new one , its used and a few months old , worked 100% before my stupid decisions bricked it)
(so here's a small version)
-Every rom i tried will bootloop , It shows a different boot video/logo everytime tho
-It all happened after i tried a 2.8Ghz Overclock
-i get a EFS error in CMW
-Accidentily i deleted my backup but i don't mind whatever rom gets on it
-Download mode and CMW (6.0.4.1) works

Ok, so what I would do.
I would wipe data through CWM.
Download official ROM from sammobile.com and flash it through Odin.
I hope this will help to get the phone booted.
After that we will worry about imei recovery.

I have the same problem, I'm on 4.3 version and tried to downgrade to 4.1.1 and went back to 4.3, I formatted the system through twrp with NO OS INSTALLED to be sure it is totally cleaned but all the way, I still experiencing reboot issue.
At first I encountered unfortunately systemui has stopped, done rooting and fixing permission but still no luck.
One more thing, I already flashed pit file.

You installed a kernel right? To over clock? First flash new bootloader, then flash stock kernel, then again flash stock rom, do not let the device boot up before you have done all three.

yup I already did that,I flashed stock kernel from http://opensource.samsung.com/.I know reflashing stock rom will delete everything including root.

So I have a ~week old Tab which I havn't used, I played around with it last night and flashed CWM using Odin and that worked fine. I went and flashed the rooted stock firmware, and it seemed to have flashed fine, except now the tablet is in a reboot loop, it restarts about 3 times and then automatically boots into recovery. I've flashed all the ROMs I can find for the 10.1" and it happens with all of them, last resort is flashing stock recovery then taking it back to the place I bought it from and to play dumb, but I'd rather not. Anyone got any suggestions?
TL;DR Tablet stuck in reboot loop, won't boot ROM, recovery & download mode work fine.
You might have done it, but have you tried flashing back the stock firmware ?
try it and post back please
Agree, I had the same issues with a few of the custom roms. I went back to stock rom and have had no issues. My issue was flashing from a SD card. For some reason it would not work. I put the rom on the device in the download folder and flashed from there. Most roms did flash correctly but I found them to be of little use. Did you by chance do a backup before you started playing around with other roms? Hope so. Then at least you can recover back to factory condition.

I have, I tried reinstalling my backup, as well as both of the stock roms here, although both times I didn't have a microsd card available, so I sideloaded both of the ROMs (which apparently worked fine, verified etc). I've just gone and bought one, so when I get home tonight I'm going to have another play around and see if I can get something working.

Interesting, I haven't tried that, I shall, thanks
I might also try flashing the ROM through Odin instead of a recovery.
I do believe that stock roms MUST be uploaded via ODIN. They cannot reside on the device. The stock rom is around 1.9gb (XAR-P5210UEUAMK1). So you will use that file (or whatever stock rom you wish to use). If you are loading one of the other roms developed here then you can put it on the device and load from there (via the recovery app CWM or TWRP)

Holy ****, thanks guys! Managed to get the stock ROM flashed with Odin, silly me for the not realising. Anyone know what would have caused the boot loop? I really don't want to run the stock rom with all the samsung crap (I guess I can root and remove everything)
I think what you did was called a dirty flash. You had bits and pieces of the original rom on the device when you tried to load another rom. The two mixed like vinegar and oil. You have to wipe your system clean before you can load a new flash. Before proceeding please do a backup of what you have right now. Load either CWM or TWRP and do the backup. My preference is TWRP. I like the look and feel of how it works.
I found the best instruction set to be http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49715684&postcount=172. I had the same boot loop as you but when I followed these instructions I finally loaded the rom. But like I said, to me I gained nothing by using it. But this is me. After much reading I found that if I just delete bloatware then I should be ok. I used an app called bloatfree from the play store. Worked just great but one has to be careful about what one removes. That is why I always backup before doing anything. I must have had 20 backup files at one time. LOL
Good luck!
Hello. I tried to root my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 - T210 and i think i really screwed it up. I did not make any backup, that was mistake NR one.
I got clock work mode up and running but i cant install any ROM, have tried The original Firmware, RocketTab, Cyanogenmod and cant pass the installation process and i think i cant turn back cause i got no backup and no way to install it again.
When i run any of these ROMs i get this error :

great rom, minimal issues. philz advanced recovery is cwm with a good touch interface and more and very helpful options.
So yes, switch. All else is almost always solveable as long as your recovery is solid.

To be 100% sure when people say recovery they mean the programs like CWM or TeamWin and so on right ?
Is it bad for the device to change often the recovery software ? cause i have done that couple of times, started with TeamWin and later on ended up with CWM.
But the thing is that the problem is the installation process, it does not matter what ROM i use i get still the same error.
And for the Philz Touch could you copy the name of the link that i should download, they all look the same and way more links that i am used to.

The reason you can't install any rom is because you do not have the latest version of CWM installed. You should always install the newest version when you install any recovery.
The newer roms are using an updater-script that will not work on CWM 6.0.4.7. Install an updated recovery and then install the rom that you want.

Is it bad for the device to change often the recovery software ? cause i have done that couple of times, started with TeamWin and later on ended up with CWM.
To answer your question no yes maybe. Travel around through XDA and read/learn and you will understand.
as for philz i would try this one https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/lt02wifi/philz_touch_6.44.9-lt02wifi.zip
in general find a recovery that works for you and stick with it until an update is actually called for.

If I were you, I would unroot and return to stock using ODIN first before I try anything else. If you need instructions, Google "unroot and return to stock using ODIN".

The reason you can't install any rom is because you do not have the latest version of CWM installed. You should always install the newest version when you install any recovery.
The newer roms are using an updater-script that will not work on CWM 6.0.4.7. Install an updated recovery and then install the rom that you want.

Without a backup, you will lose your data and files. But you can restore, since you can download the firmware from SamMobile.

6.0.4.9 is the latest.

Choose the one with "flashable" in the name and then flash it using your current CWM recovery; then reboot recovery.

good to hear you got it sorted. CM just isn't happening yet. just watch the forum like a hawk like everyone else is...:cyclops:
If your worried about destroying your tab you prolly shouldn't have come to mod it.I know sounds like a douche bag thing to say but even putting on the flash or roms that go with the tab can destroy your tab if done improperly or even if they glitched while flash which does happen or even worse power outage when flashing.

Nono it is okey to say something like this, but the thing is i like to learn this stuff, took me about 3 days to learn how to flash a BIOS on a computer but when i got the hang of it i learned it.
I am scared of destroying the tablet but how else would i learn ? cause reading does not always help But i got it back up again. And i knew when to ask for help.
But the RocketTab looks to work well at least for know, but would love CM mod couse i have it on my S4 and when and with the RocketTab i only get android version 4.1.2
