Is there any "NEW"potential for Gingebread Kernals?

I see quick output in ROM'S but I'm impatient lol, I'm exited to know if there are any new kernel features that come along with Gingerbread like higher OC'ing or a higher FPS unlock, more mhz steps or something along those lines?

I'm so excited.....and I just can't hide it. Stability is so exciting. Did I mention I was excited? Can't wait to see all the goodies that come from this.
I have a question though. Why is JB source being released before ICS source or am I such a dimwit that I am missing something?

Ok there is a diference between AOSP Source Code (Straight from Google) And Linux Kernel Source for a specific device (From Samsung) Samsung has not released kernel source for ICS yet.
And no just because google release jelly bean source does not mean we get automatic stability. The Aosp ROM Source has to be compiled and merged with ET4G Libs, Etc, and Kernel. Without kernel source getting jelly bean 100% Stable will be a challenge. But Not impossible.

Aosp source is not source for our phone, it will not contain the drivers, etc necessary to run on our device... look at ics, aosp source has been available for ages but we need source from Samsung for our specific device to have super stable fully functional ics roms

Once we get ICS kernel source. Then the JB source drop will mean a little bit more. Mainly because maybe, just maybe the talented devs can patch up a source built ICS kernel enough to run JB on this phone without a **** ton of issues. If this happens then we can expect to see CM10 and the new AOKP once they drop and maybe some other goodies. What everyone needs to be hoping for though is ICS Kernel source and that the devs can patch that ***** enough to run JB. And please if any of the AOSP Devs see this as disinformation please correct me. I don't want to me giving out false info.
But even with all that said. It is still pretty exciting to see JB source drop. Hell I get happy anytime Google announces or releases a new build.

We have had the source to ICS since last year The source to an operating system does not allow it to run on anything other than its development device without further drivers and in the case of Android plenty of tweaking to kernel and other code. The AOSP source is just a base for manufacturers/developers to work with or if you have a Nexus device its often an easy base for rom development.
Either way it goes, looks like Netflix is already updated for JB. I wonder if that means all the other good Apps will optimize for non-flash support. I don't really care if we get it or not, since I am banking on changing phones early next year. If I don't get it, ok... but if we do, I would really be grateful.
Already on Chrome I have noticed a few news web sites that don't display correctly due to no Flash support. I hope in time Flash dies.
OP, it's AOSP not ASOP.
AOSP = Android Open Source Project
ASOP = Android Source Open Project???
But yes, good news indeed.

Yes the source code has been released. Agat63 post and Chris41g has fixed the released version of the kernel. which is now safe to flash ICS to ICS. but its only for TW roms. They sould be starting today. here is the link for the safe ICS kernel.

Nobody can tell you for sure when the OTAs start until they get one. And even if someone else receives one that is no guarantee that yours will be available. They sometimes roll them out on different schedules.

Very true. On my epic 4g (not touch) it took two weeks after the kernel update relase for me to get it.
How do we know the kernel is safe though?

Chris41g disabled the eMMC erase all instructions. Which was causing the bricks before. But i beleive the samsung offical kernel still has the bug in it. the kernel AGAT v0.1.0 with tREC v0.2.1 has the fix in it.

Unless you have built the kernel from source yourself and seen that it's disabled you don't know for sure. You'll just have to trust the developers that say it is.

It allows people to build custom ROMs from LG's original source instead of CM9/CM10 or any other third party source. It's source thats going to work even if you don't know enough about java to build.
In short, more roms and kernels based on the stock rom/kernel will be coming this way... very soon. I'm working on one now.

Where are the 4.0.4 kernels?

Wow roms are popping up everyday now but no custom 4.0.4 kernels...i wish i could make one....

Ikr a kernel like dark sides would be nice like a remake
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
I'm pretty sure that this is because Samsung hasn't released 4.0.4 kernel source for the T989. Otherwise, I am sure Faux would have been all over it.
The reason there are no custom 4.0.4 is source has not been released. Until it is, everything will be stock based.

I posted a question about the kernel being built from source and the camera failing, I have yet to receive a response in both Rootz and XDA. Also when contacting Samsung they said they could not help. I know it is something that I am missing and the source is not the newest version, but I do not know what to look for. I have been looking at the Galaxy Tab and Skyrocket custom kernel sources.
Wow still nothing...i think we have the only phone that doesn't have a current custom kernel...maybe this is the end? Although there are over 10 roms...very strange

Yeah, tons of themed roms and unofficial nightly builds, no 4.04 kernels for stock, keeps me on darkside evolution. Seems our only hope is faux and he's super busy
I loved Evolution as well, but TDJ left before finishing up v4 forcing me to opt for Darthstalker. Having GV and bluetooth issue, but stick with it for now till something good turns up.
I have great experience with jedi rom. Try that.
