MY VERY FIRST OP
Just thought i would share this with the community. It's called high performance carbon fiber vinyl. The great thing is that it does not leave any adhesive residue. I just slowly, carefully tailored it with a razor blade on top of the original battery cover. A blow dryer made the vinyl much more "compliant" and flexible. Hope you like it. I'm trying to do it with white carbon fiber vinyl next. Please let me know what you think...

A mod could move it if you msg one. (not sure who to msg lol)
I actually still have some from when I tried this on my vibrant. Didn't work out well then based that battery door was so oddly shaped. May go either this a shot. Keep us updated on how well it lasts.

If you're using the 3m di-noc variant, it's practically bulletproof. The 3m material isn't even vinyl, it's pvc, which is why it's so damn durable. I wouldn't hesitate putting it on anything I want to keep looking nice. The look isn't for everyone though. And depending on how tight/small the corners need to be, it might not be a good fit.
Because the battery cover of the t989 is textured, the vinyl does not stick very well. like I previously mentioned, I used a blow dryer to make it stick much much better. I also have it in a clear hard/soft silicone gel skin so it should last pretty much forever.
Also if you like this mod or it inspired you to try something similar please hit the thank you button...

White CF would look nice.
I will be ordering the white soon... kinda expensive... but when I am done I will show it to you...
Actually I plan on doing a white conversion for my wife... I am looking into purchasing the equipment to cut the skin for the face... I will report back soon...
For the Vibrant i know they had a white sticker you could put on the front. Sounds cheap i know but it looked pretty slick. The only thing i noticed was a small ridge around the face of the phone however that was kinda nice also for operating the phone without looking.

Thing is that this is only a sticker and unless you can get the sticker to fold under the edge of the battery cover and have the battery cover sit properly.. the stick will just peel up.
I made one as well, if anyone is interested let me know. Came out pretty well.

Not really... When this stuff sticks it aiint going no where (if applied properly.) Unlike stickers that wear and tear with time. This stuff is harder to remove with time... and it's not just a sticker... this is almost indestructible PVC...

So, I went ahead and gave Phantom's new Chromatic's a try. I went with the Carbon Fiber Black. IMO it looks amazing. Instead of wasting 1.5 hours of my time I just had the guy at the mall install it for $10. There is one flaw on the top left corner there are 2 little ripples and I plan on taking it back to have them fix as it has a lifetime warranty with their install. One of the pics shows this. Other than that, I love it.
This also includes the screen protector.
FYI, it does not have that rubbery grippy feel of a normal skin so if you desire that, I suggest staying away form this. Also, while it breaks in, the edges of the back skin pick up pocket link like a vacuum.
In my experience testing zagg, BSE and now Phantom Skinz, the phantom just seems to have a unsurpassed quality to it. Just my .02. Enjoy the pics!

Looks great! Can't wait for mine to get here so I can try the install. What store at the mall did the install for you?
Sent from my Vibrant using XDA App
You dont have to go to a mall to get it. You can order it from phantom skinz your self and put it on yourself. Link If you dont want to do it yourself just call phantom skinz and ask them. They are based out of Gilbert, AZ and I live just down the streat from there so maybe that is why there was a kiosk in that mall. Thier number is (480) 497-2965, call and ask if they have a kiosk in a mall near you.
Very stupid question but does this provide adequate protection for the phone? If you happen to drop the phone would this protect it?
$15, I'd be sold.
$20, if I was drinkin'...
$30? No way.

Oh yeah, I got owned. OK, whatever 12 year old.
Anyways, can you show me where it says they are copyrighted. I have had several different skins for other devices and I have never seen anything about a cutout having a copyright. I may be wrong but I have never seen it, although I admit I had never really looked too hard.
Oh and you didn't spoil my day, it just would be nice to have a scan. I have already made my own cutout but wanted to see how others have handled the wrapping of the corners versus what I have done.

Interesting - didnt know those sort of things existed.
Not sure what to do about mine - I'll monitor this thread with interest
It was my understanding that the lens cover is made of the same/similar glass that's used for the front of the phone.
The HTC Desire etc. had a plastic lens cover that was on the back cover rather than on the actual phone itself which is why something like that needed to exist.

simply buy a cheap phone protector, cut it and put in to the lens. I do that on my hd2 for years and its great.
This sounds like a good idea. Does it affect picture quality through the invisishield though?

No I just did two really thin strips on the top and bottom of the lens so that it doesn't affect camera whatsoever. And on the bottom just above the speakers. Ill take a pic and post it when I have time. definitely working though. I'm at peace without needing a case.

Looks good. I'm sure I had some of this stuff lying around but predictably, I can't find it. Will definitely buy some!
I find it hard to believe that some case maker doesnt jump on this gap in the market and design a case with a simple sliding or magnetic cover over the lens... it seems simple, in my head!
Im going to try and make my own cover on a silicon case, just ordered some really thin magnetic strip and going to try to devise a simple material flap to cover the lens and fix with the magnet.. sue, it will prob look awful, but its a case of function over design for me!

Be prepared to hate me. It took quite a bit of modification and I do not recommend anyone to do it because its a pain in the ass and its better just to wait for the real Verizon housing to come out. I used to GSM white housing and modified it to fit, for the most part at least.
I also had to use a ****ty webcam because that's all I had to work with that can take pictures in my apartment. You can see that I was trying to hide behind the phone.

Yes, what was once a nice looking piece of plastic is now a mangled mess on the inside. But of course the battery door covers it all up. If this thing gets in water there is no saving it. I had to do a LOT of cutting and shaving and grinding.

I use the above case. It does not add a whole lot to the phone as far as size or weight goes. The kick stand seems pretty sturdy as well. The rubber on the outside gives the user the ability to grip the phone without worry of having it slip through your hands. The buttons on the case protrude a bit making them easy to find by touch.
All in all a great case and it looks good with the white GS3.

Obviously it depends on your opinion of what is fat or not but I felt like it was fairly bulky. I currently am thinking of getting a tcp speck case from AT&T and attaching a flygrip to it. If I do that I'll post again. Even though I have Verizon it seemed like the AT&T stores had best selection of cases around me (versus Sprint and Verizon plus a couple case stores, just fyi).

Hello everyone, I guess I'm just here to show you guys a little accessory I made for my One. I welded it out of random scrap metal and bent a bracket back in between the dash and clock accessory to hold it in place. It's very stable, and good for using with Navigation, or for changing the music on my Bluetooth stereo.

I envy your ingenuity, yet pity your phone for all the scratches this will give it.
This has to be a joke this will destroy your device

You need to go to home depot and pick up a can of plasti-dip to coat your holder.
No way would I place my device in that bare. If its in a case that would be fine, but the bare metal sticking out of your dash is abit of an eyesore.
I like it as a diy, but coat it in plasti-dip and it would go from unsightly to being near perfect.
Love the implementation of Industrial Design, combined with American ingenuity & sheer retardedness. lol.
Just kidding! Work on your quality of finish maybe?
are you serious ?????? put it in the bin
Wow, don't we have a bunch of asshats on this forum.
Nice work dude, maybe spray it with something so you don't damage the phone.

haha wow I just happened to find two people who seem to keep this amazing piece of equipment.. without a case? Lol I habent had it out, since I bought it, for more than a minute or two.
Plasti-dip is a good idea! although I'm beggining to like the industrial look of it, as bare metal.

Yeah, thank you! Just thought someone might get an idea from mine.. I thought of that, I just kind of like the way it looks. Who knows, might dip it though. Thanks for the input!

Here's a photo of how it doesn't hurt my device:

lol yeah, im not a big fan of cases honestly. I may use one from time to time, but only to match an outfit, but even then I mostly rely on skins lol. I usually just throw a full body skin on it or leave my phones bare.
Always found it funny when people rave and make a big deal about how a phone looks or how thin it is then throw it into an otterbox or something.
What case is that?
Cool clock!

I did as you said, and plasti-dipped it!
I think it looks pretty cool, and now it's protected by a layer of rubber, so bare phones will be happy still.

Here are the pictures after it's been plasti-dipped.

Very nice. I wish I had my '89 CRX to do things like this to. I'm going to find a decent suction cup holder from somewhere eventually.
Is this the only version you're making? I was thinking next time you could use a pneumatic press and take a single piece of steel and fold it so you don't have so many harsh edges. Or heat a single piece of steel and make like a blacksmith and bend that beast with a sledgehammer and willpower.
alternatively if you absolutely must weld it, weld the sides on the backside of the backplate rather than the front. Just curious why you took the time to weld it but disregarded the 20 seconds it would've taken to smooth it with a hand-held grinder?
Also, why not legos?
I also had the idea to build this with lego . (my old phone, but also works with my HTC One)
