Hello everyone, I guess I'm just here to show you guys a little accessory I made for my One. I welded it out of random scrap metal and bent a bracket back in between the dash and clock accessory to hold it in place. It's very stable, and good for using with Navigation, or for changing the music on my Bluetooth stereo.

You need to go to home depot and pick up a can of plasti-dip to coat your holder.
No way would I place my device in that bare. If its in a case that would be fine, but the bare metal sticking out of your dash is abit of an eyesore.
I like it as a diy, but coat it in plasti-dip and it would go from unsightly to being near perfect.
Love the implementation of Industrial Design, combined with American ingenuity & sheer retardedness. lol.
Just kidding! Work on your quality of finish maybe?

Plasti-dip is a good idea! although I'm beggining to like the industrial look of it, as bare metal.

lol yeah, im not a big fan of cases honestly. I may use one from time to time, but only to match an outfit, but even then I mostly rely on skins lol. I usually just throw a full body skin on it or leave my phones bare.
Always found it funny when people rave and make a big deal about how a phone looks or how thin it is then throw it into an otterbox or something.

I think it looks pretty cool, and now it's protected by a layer of rubber, so bare phones will be happy still.

Very nice. I wish I had my '89 CRX to do things like this to. I'm going to find a decent suction cup holder from somewhere eventually.
Is this the only version you're making? I was thinking next time you could use a pneumatic press and take a single piece of steel and fold it so you don't have so many harsh edges. Or heat a single piece of steel and make like a blacksmith and bend that beast with a sledgehammer and willpower.
alternatively if you absolutely must weld it, weld the sides on the backside of the backplate rather than the front. Just curious why you took the time to weld it but disregarded the 20 seconds it would've taken to smooth it with a hand-held grinder?
Also, why not legos?
I also had the idea to build this with lego . (my old phone, but also works with my HTC One)

So... I loosened my grip on my Vision while it was on my palm. And it slipped... It did two flips an plop, more like thud in slow motion, onto the tennis court. Yes I took my phone out while doing some tennis warmups. Stupid I know, but I was admiring it. (I got it just recently). Anyway, It did no damage, except a little tiny nick, hardly noticeably on the edge. But if you look closely, it's there. So I was wondering. Is it possible to sand it off or something?
Exact same happened to me just yesterday, except on the top-right.
I'm not too worried because there's always the possibility of a case, but yeah I'd like to know if I can sand it.
Very fine grit (180ish) and go with the grain of the brushed finish. Let us know how it turns out!
Ermmm anymore suggestions or agreement of the sanding w/ 180?
1) You can go ahead and sand it if you want, but you'll just take the paint off and then it'll look REALLY weird.
2) there is no grain. Its not made of wood, and it wasn't brush painted. It was sprayed.
Same thing happened to me. I tried sanding it and it made it look worst, as it takes the paint off. Maybe you could try finding a replacement bezel.
What are half the guys above talking about taking the paint off... its not painted on the metal parts... that's metal... not painted plastic or metal.... its a clear coating... either sprayed or adhesively layed on in the factory

eh -- all image and no substance.
the good stuff is in the phone not on the phone.
wear it like a well oiled baseball mitt.... would you rather play with a well broken in glove that never loses a ball, or a nice shiny stiff glove just for looks?
that scratch looks soooooo small... and the g2 has such sex appeal it dazzles the ladies and blinds them and they cannot see past the aura.
It is brushed aluminum. Brushed means aluminum that has been sanded to creat a flat non shiny finish. 180 grit is too coarse. Yes for the first pass at the deep scratches. I would suggest finishing with 320 grit 400 is a little too fine. Get the black sandpaper, it's called wet and dry. it is superior for fine detail work. Use the blue masking tape and tape off first, to protect.
I don't want a case, the phone seems relatively tough by design, gorilla glass and all. I'm concerned about the camera though. Anyone have any ideas for protection or whether it actually needs it?

Interesting - didnt know those sort of things existed.
Not sure what to do about mine - I'll monitor this thread with interest
It was my understanding that the lens cover is made of the same/similar glass that's used for the front of the phone.
The HTC Desire etc. had a plastic lens cover that was on the back cover rather than on the actual phone itself which is why something like that needed to exist.

simply buy a cheap phone protector, cut it and put in to the lens. I do that on my hd2 for years and its great.

No I just did two really thin strips on the top and bottom of the lens so that it doesn't affect camera whatsoever. And on the bottom just above the speakers. Ill take a pic and post it when I have time. definitely working though. I'm at peace without needing a case.

Looks good. I'm sure I had some of this stuff lying around but predictably, I can't find it. Will definitely buy some!
I find it hard to believe that some case maker doesnt jump on this gap in the market and design a case with a simple sliding or magnetic cover over the lens... it seems simple, in my head!
Im going to try and make my own cover on a silicon case, just ordered some really thin magnetic strip and going to try to devise a simple material flap to cover the lens and fix with the magnet.. sue, it will prob look awful, but its a case of function over design for me!

MY VERY FIRST OP
Just thought i would share this with the community. It's called high performance carbon fiber vinyl. The great thing is that it does not leave any adhesive residue. I just slowly, carefully tailored it with a razor blade on top of the original battery cover. A blow dryer made the vinyl much more "compliant" and flexible. Hope you like it. I'm trying to do it with white carbon fiber vinyl next. Please let me know what you think...

If you're using the 3m di-noc variant, it's practically bulletproof. The 3m material isn't even vinyl, it's pvc, which is why it's so damn durable. I wouldn't hesitate putting it on anything I want to keep looking nice. The look isn't for everyone though. And depending on how tight/small the corners need to be, it might not be a good fit.
Because the battery cover of the t989 is textured, the vinyl does not stick very well. like I previously mentioned, I used a blow dryer to make it stick much much better. I also have it in a clear hard/soft silicone gel skin so it should last pretty much forever.
Also if you like this mod or it inspired you to try something similar please hit the thank you button...

For the Vibrant i know they had a white sticker you could put on the front. Sounds cheap i know but it looked pretty slick. The only thing i noticed was a small ridge around the face of the phone however that was kinda nice also for operating the phone without looking.

are you asking where to get a screen, or how to replace the screen?
As far as where, you'll have to do some searching around. Sprint techs like us have the luxury of harvesting screens off returned phones (normally used for repairs)...but epic screens are generally so far and few between i doubt you'd find a tech willing to sell one to you.
If you're asking how, that's easy. Unscrew the six screws underneath the battery cover. Then using a really thin piece of plastic or even your fingernails, begin to pry the area where the bezel meets the glass down both sides and the top (the bezel-back-frame almost fits like a cap on the screen). Then just lift the bezel-frame from the screen in an out then down motion (basically, the top separates first, then you'll have to go down and out to get the bottom part off; you don't want to pry the bottom part straight out so as not to damage the charging port). During this, you'll likely see your headset jack move with the frame, that's ok because it moves pretty freely inside.
Once inside, you'll see two flat Phillips head screws, unscrew those. You won't need to unscrew the third tiny one in the upper right hand corner. There are several cables (3 or 4) that are plugged into ports, just unplug them, nothing fancy. Just make sure you look closely so you don't miss one. Then, the motherboard (which is roughly shaped like an "L" ) just lifts up. Reverse directions to put in a new screen. Easy squeezy lemon Japanesey.

Hi XDAAAAA ! :highfive:
I have prepared for you freshly baked review about SGP illuzion case which went on sale a few days ago.
I want to start with the fact that we have a large selection of accessories from different companies. And sometimes it is very hard to make a choice "what is best and worst".
"ZENUS" one of the competitors which is completely disappointed me.
- magnet built-in !!?! (u kidding me for $57,99?)
-it doesn't look delicate enough. (While the some owner deny this )
-I totally don't like the build quality.
Why should I pay more "$$$" for accessory that I'm ashamed to put on the table.
Where is style? Im sorry guys but all our life we make conclusions by comparing one to another, and there is nothing wrong about it. "-I'll pay more, ...do better"
My choice has stopped on SGP illuzion

Let me start with BUILD QUALITY.
-Quality of the leather is good. Soft to the touch.
-Stitching of the case is finely done
-Ultra thin (fits easily in my pocket, despite the fact that almost all my jeans, pants is skinny)
Design and style
In our time hard to impress someone. Everyone has their own style.
SGP illuzion Embodies classic style with a combination of modern. It looks very expensive whatever I am !!!
I am pleased to put my phone in a visible place
The style is combined with the usability. And this is another thing which is necessary for me !
The advantage of the superiority
Of course it will not replace for us our wallets, but sometimes I want to take something that, which is only necessity for me. Example: my "phone and some cards" (Yea...Today without this, we will not go far away :laugh
SGP illuzion case only has 3 slots ( ...... I remember the words of my grandma: "Little Bit of Everything" )
Chance of losing the cards is practically equal to 0.
Little pockets are made to keep them tightly ! (Important !)
and when you close the cover, they are absolutely safe.
-The phone keeps pretty tight inside also.
It is also nice to see that the
holes for the speakers, camera, LED flash made and located with the medical accuracy.
Case does not use a magnet. I have seen too many guys with the problem of the screen because of the magnet. **** that.
I buy the product for the protection and convenience, not for failure.
How about it charging and music jack ?
Even with connected accessories SGP illuzion case looking hot
Conclusion
-$32.99 - definitely worth it !
(Zenus Case -$57,99 not worth it)
I definitely recommend this case If you are looking for something more than just protection.
Other colors are also available on the official site.
Beware of fake products

Hey man nice review. Could you please tell me if this case has cut outs for the camera, flash, and speaker at the back.
A photo of the back would be even more appreciated. Thanks.

Looks like the snap button could push on the screen if cover closed without insuring it's outside the case.....

I agree, but that rounded metal tab on the strap will concentrate some force on the same spot on the screen every time it happens to hit it...

you apply absolute minimum pressure. Even from the standpoint of physics it is not possible.
