Hello Guys, I have searched along the internet and on XDA Forums and still have found no answer to my very specific question please try not to get frustrated with me as I have had no previous experience on Forums before and i know little about Android although I am an IT student and I do understand most technical terms and situations.
My Specs:
HTC Wildfire (Buzz)
Cyanogen MOD 7 Latest version (Stable, Not Nightly)
My Question:
I need to know what to do regarding my CPU speeds as I know that CM7 comes with the CPU Settings Functionality but I do not know what settings would be best for my Buzz for example my Buzz is quite slow and I want it to be faster for games and such and I know that I will need to increase the CPU speed to obtain this so what I would like to know is:
What "Available Governors" should I use (To speed up my phone)
What Min and Max frequency should I use?

It can be anything your phone is stable at. For some, it is stable at 768, but, for others, the phone gets unstable at above 710/729, so, there are no "recommended" settings globally. Try from 672 and go one step higher till the phone is stable. For governors, you can use SmartassV2.
But remember though, OC'ing will only bring marginal performance games. Don't expect your games to start running smoothly after OC, because, it won't. It's not for the 528MHz default CPU speed, but it because of the lack of a GPU chip.
the best frequency for wildfire is 691 MHz, "no lags no bugs"©
Iam having overclocking about 633 MHz.....and if u r an IT student u should know increasing speed upto 700 MHz can be too dangerous....be in 600 MHz and try to not disturb governors as cm7 is a battery drainer and if u r willing to change governor then ur next thread will be battery draining lol....

True but disagreed, I can get 2 to 3 days on my current setup at 728 mhz running stable and fast, using the"interactive"governor...however go with 3xeno s above for now because every persons setup is different and will determine how far you can overclock.

Some handset support and some dosen`t.....I think I had low quality HTC wildfire that's why I can't overclock it....good luck...

I have overclocked buzz to 748 max n 672 min it runs perfectly smooth n lag free
howevr i hv tested a step at a time
current governererformance
battery:1.5 days(average use)
What minimum speed did you select? I've just lowered the default to 176 MHz (previously/default 264 MHz), but I've read that a minimum speed below 200 MHz could even be worse than keeping it at 200 MHz. But then, this has been told about the Samsung Galaxy S which clocks a lot higher than the 614 MHz I selected for my Wildfire.

What is the highest MHz that i can go up to without risking my phone too much? My ROM and Kernal lets me go up to 1920 but thats probably not the best idea.

you have reason.... NO GOOD IDEA lol
in a kernel thread (a lot of time ago...) i was read... that was not recomended overclock avobe of 1600 Mhz... And atention important!!! don´t underclock down 170Mhz more or less (because can be the devece cannot exit from standby mode when you unlock the screen....) i cannot remember what was be the thread but i really believe that there is not a concret limit for overclock....
sure that it´s not good any tipe of overclock for improve the performance...
but i have a hero overclocked at 714 mhz (factory stock at 525 mhz) since 2009 and NO PROBLEM never,,,,
and my DHD overclocked at 1200 mhz (with a quality kernel in mode smartass)
and underclocked at 245 mhz more or less and no problem....
judge by your self but use the common sense... cheeeers
At the moment i have it on smartass to 1459 max and 230 min and it seems fine. Do i just judge it on the CPU temp, and if it stays quite low (Around 30c) then im fine?

it depends buddy...
maybe its well.... the normal temp. of my batt. in use is 33-35º (but here in spain we are now at 30º !)
but my question is... are you really sure about its neccesary overclock our DHD?
I think that still DHD supports well all kinds of software with 1 GHZ of power...
maybe for a future thinks....or for gamming but always u can overclock for use a game and then return to 1ghz...
it´s only a suggestion... maybe another OP uses the processor of different mode...
The overclocking limit differs from device to device, so there is no general answer.
As a rule of thumb, when you start getting random revolts or crashes, you have gone too far.
If you want a more professional way, just slowly turn the clock of your CPU up and run a stress test after each time. It takes a bit more time but should get you pretty good results.
How long should i leave the stress test running for?
The reason i want to overclock it a little is that it just runs a bit more smoothly with it over clocked a bit. Just everything in general seems a bit better to use, its not really for gaming etc.

Overclocking is setting the processor speed higher than it is meant to go, if overclocked too far, it can be dangerous, but usually it improves the overall speed of the phone.
691MHz/710MHz are probably the best and safest Max speeds to go with, on my kernel I have 633MHz as default Max, but it can be overclocked higher to a very unstable 800MHz.

Over clocking is good!
Over clocking can be harmful in the sense that it can make your device unstable if you over clock at a high speed, although there are benefits to over clocking such as increasing the speed on your android device to attempt to reduce things such as lag on low end devices such as the HTC Wildfire (Buzz).
Use Rom Toolbox (its downloadable from android market for free or donate)

i have also underclocked my processor as well as overclocking it so that when the phone is idle, it uses less batteryto keep things going.
one bit of advise, dont just max things out. start low and increase the OC slightly, test for a day or day, if everything seems fine, raise the bar until things become unstable, like the launcher jumping or sceen transitions becoming glitchy then reduce by one stage and this will be your optimum OC speed.
My phone can OC to about 791MHz but i'm only set at 652MHz. And the stock UC was about 400MHz and i have reduced to 264MHz
I am looking to overclock my CPU to the highest possible MHz without melting my phone, so does anyone have an idea on what is the highest clock speed I can achieve without killing my phone?

actually the highest overclock so far for the wfs is 864mhz, but is very unstable. The fastest and somewhat stable is 825mhz

yeah it ll be good for yr phone.higher overclocking can brick your phone.768MHz is better and standard overclocking for wfs.
I got a little problem:
I can overclock my wildfire to only 710 Mhz if i overclock it to 768 the phone stucks and i can't do anything.
At the moment I'm using Cyanogenmod 9 but i think it isn't because of the ROM 'cause in Rempuzzle ROM i had this bug too.
Should i flash another Kernel or what should i do?
As far as I know, it's a hardware limitation.
It depends on the processor, some processors have high tolerance to overclocking, some don't.
In another words, some processors can handle high speeds. The defualt speed is actually 512-ish so when you increase to 768, it just can't handle the speed so the phone freezes/reboots.
Some wildfires can handle those speeds, luckily mine does
That doesn't mean you have bad or faulty hardware. The processor just can't handle it

I think from my new experience it might be a bit of a combo between the actual chip and the kernel settings, on my s2 with 1 kernel I can only oc to 1300 with both cores on but with another (my favorite one anyway) I can hit 1500 both cores on.
I still think the actual processor has more input than the kernel though, and all the extra strain from not having a gpu can't help either.
EDIT: I'm not saying flashing a new kernel will help you reach 768 though , the lack of resources elsewhere is a huge hinderence to the wildfire.

I have an HTC Wildfire, and when I installed one rom of Cyanogen, the stable version 7.1, Android 2.3.7 and tried to overclock with the options "Performance", 518mhz of minimum and 768mhz of maximum, the system freezes after a few minutes. I tried several times and with the stable version 7.2, and it is always so. I wonder if you can help me.

Don't clock it to max.
Your phone can't handle it.
Try 528-710 for example.

The point I was trying to make is to try a lower frequency. Doesn't necessarily have to be 710MHz

I can't overclock my WF to the maximum too so i clocked it to 729mHz and it runs fast aswell. I don't think you notice the 30mHz difference.

The hardware may vary (slightly or even significantly) in both directions (some people may overclock to more than 768MHz while others even can't up to 710). Varies also with different kernels - but freezes generally are a sign that you've gone over max - independant from your kernel).
From my experience it doesn't really make a big difference if I set 710 or 768 (besides the battery drains faster and my Willy is getting freakin' hot at times) - overclocking is a bit overestimated anyway
After running my wildfire for months at 768 i decided there wasn't much point in going above 633 for the things i did on it. Also the speed margin was minimal.
I'm now on a dual core 1.2ghz s2 running at 1ghz on a single core and its almost doubled my battery life, the 2nd core is hardly used unless its needed so i turned it off, i see no difference in speed but high gains in battery life.....
Sometimes a high Oc isn't what's needed to make a phone faster........

everyone has "different" wildfire. For example you get freezes at 768 Mhz but I don't get it and my willy is getting well with it. Anyway, the biggest difference you can see when you overclock willy to 729 Mhz. Higher is not important because you cannot see any difference in performance. You will only drain your battery life

Thanks. I choose the configuration in 518mhz-729mhz in performance. I'm testing this configuration since eleven hours.
IMO bes configuration is from 264 or 176 to 729 and smartass v2 governor. Low values because when ur phone is in sleep mode it drain ur battery less than on 518 mhz (; give a try (;

Yes (; for me it is the best so i wrote IMO m8. But i think that this conf. would be much better for battery than yours but urs would be faster of course (;
